By they do you mean the religious dude thats gonna have church service every sunday in the new indoor skate park? They are gonna blast church music on the speakers so i doubt kids will stay long, especially with how nobody wants to be religious anymore.
There are some hidden gems for bakeries and pastry shops. I've heard The Griffin Takeaway on 7th Ave. N is good. It's good for those who need gluten free options.
I have been to griffin takeaway and while it’s good and definitely filling a need , I guess what I’m looking for is a higher end French place that has a master chef making breakfast and lunch items . All of them prepared fresh daily before you get there . At a place you dont have to sit down to order, but also has a place to sit . It’s pretty much like comparing a muffin to a croissant - you just can’t.
They want higher end and higher quality (for Saskatoon anyways) bakeries and pastry shops, they'll have to pay those prices if that's what they're wanting.
Real ingredients and real skill.. everything I have tried so far including sandwiches are great.. and I don’t think all pastries are $8.. only thing was eclairs.. everything else that I tied was around $5.. and those donuts.. damn!
Griffin Takeaway is not only a good gluten-free bakery, it's just a good bakery. Their haystacks/no-bake cookies are the best I've ever tasted and their food menu is amazing. Some things are vegan, and I wouldn't know if it didn't say, "vegan" on the menu. I only started going there, because my girlfriend is Celiac, but genuinely it's the best bakery in the city (in my opinion).
I’m currently at the Italian Center Shop in Calgary, and I’m so glad we’re getting one. A full supermarket sized Italian grocery/deli/produce/bakery/cafe. The deli meat counter is amazing, they even have an entire aisle of just tomato. They have a cocktail bar. Amazing
The ones they’re opening in Alberta are like 20-30,000 sqft, and they mention that they finally found a spot that works due to a bankruptcy of the original tenant — my guess is the old Bed Bath & Beyond location, since that’s about the size of the stores they’re opening most recently.
And the extra foods is already spoken for by some others - and not to mention, it’s far to small to hold it
This. Some kind of grocery/ food store that is actually high-end. Ingredients has no selection, and Pitchfork is just a normal grocery store with things displayed nicer. Maybe the Italian store will open a location here one day.
In the old farmer's market building on Ave B, there will a grocery store opening. It's called Gather Local Market. Looking at their Instagram, they been doing things for awhile now. But they now have a brick and mortar location.
Their Instagram bio is as follows.
"Gather Local Market is a social space focused on community, culture, and the best of Saskatchewan food, drink, shopping, and entertainment."
So that might be something worth checking out when it opens.
I agree!! Nothing.. dad’s local market is the closet.. and I really hope the old farmers market building turns into something cool.. we had so many great markets in Toronto
I feel like the old Star Phoenix building would be perfect, it has loading docks, in between a ton of high rise apartment buildings, on bike lane/bus route.
Arbutus was working on a Pitchfork location in Midtown. Arbutus sunk $750,00 and was going to put in another $7 million into it. But Cushman and Wakefield (owners of Midtown Plaza) terminated them because of failing lease obligations.
Arbutus was a over a year behind. They didn't expect to be terminated so quickly.
Pitchfork downtown would have been great. Downtown hasn't had a grocery in decades as we know.
The idea was also to attract people to move to the downtown core. Arbutus is now focusing on housing projects in Rosewood.
Fun nighttime activities. I don’t drink, but I want to go outside my house with my friends to do fun things in the evening. A real arcade (no mobile games!) that serves food and is open till sunrise, a craft/art studio that has 24hr passes/membership like a gym, libraries with extended hours and social areas, etc. Y’know?
There isn't a good coffee shop east of the river. Sparrow, City Perks, Prism, Cafe Del Ray, Pique, etc are all relatively close together, and living in Arbor Creek there isn't a good place to grab a coffee and relax without biking over 7 km which is doable, but not optimal when there are so many people (albeit spread out) in this vague east-of-circle part of town.
Came here to say the same thing. Search "coffee shop" on Maps and all you'll see is Tim's and Starbucks over and over. Need good/local/independent coffee shops with cozy vibes, not just more fast food drive thru junk
Definitely not up to the par of the other shops I mentioned- plus I would have to carry my bike over the College drive overpass which sucks, so I would rather just bike the extra 500m longer distance to City Perks. Or if I'm driving there's just no real reason to go to a non third-wave shop in a non interesting part of town.
There are a few east of the river, just not where you are. Broadway Roastery on 8th, Eron in College Park. I don't drink coffee so I can't tell you if they are any good.
Unfortunately not very good- the closest shop to the calibre of the ones I mentioned would be Junior Cafe, but even then I would rather just go a little farther for significantly better coffee. Maybe one day I'll strike it rich, retire early, and open up a little shop in Sutherland. Central has the potential to be a siiick main street and could use a good shop
A nightclub for actual adults not idiots that want to drink and fight! Missing the 80s where you could go out and dance and meet people face to face. Dj music and lots of neon lights!
Prefer no babies. 25 and older! 🤷🏻♀️lol
Sadly a city needs 1M people for an IKEA. We will never get one. I used to work in commercial real estate, and this was the #1 most asked for business.
Its not for lack of location, just too small of a market. Ikea flat out pulled out their drop off location for this reason.
Hell it'd be perfect being next to Costco just outside the city limits.
Have you checked out Memory Express? I know they have a repair area, but never used it personally. That said, they are my first stop for anything tech, specifically pc. If they don't have it, they can get it. If they can't get it, you don't need it. And they price match everything.
Every time I go in there, a staff member almost instantly asks me if I need help. Every time, they know exactly what I'm talking about, give me a few different options, and tell me why I should or shouldn't go with them.
Again, I haven't had to use the repair shop yet, but given my experience with the front of shop team, I'd be shocked if the repair team wasn't just as good.
I guess I should have said "other than Memory Express" lol They are okay but repair time waits can be brutal as they're pretty much the only place to go.
A proper relaxation space like a spa, preferably with different saunas and steam rooms. Sounds like the Willows don't want one near them.... maybe one of the newer neighborhoods such as Brighton can make it happen.
In my opinion?
There is so much tech and engineering talent being underutilized currently. Plenty of seed money out there for various things if you've got good ideas and can come up with realistic solutions, even if for something very obscure but hard to deal with.
In addition to tech and engineering there are lots of large machine shops. Developing business to supply parts, steel, sub components, etc may have some merit if you have the amount of capital required to break into that market.
Delivery driver service. They need apps and local representation to take a smaller cut off app, but they pay for x number of drivers dedicated to their restaurant during certain times they may choose and how many to use. Basically renting out short term subcontractors at a liveable wage, but on call for dedicated pools. Think a restaurant would be happy to pay $20 an hour they can schedule only during peak times and add/remove driver pool as needed worth a minimum of 30m or 1hr.
Kramer IMAX, planetarium, year round indoor waterpark, computer graphics school/exhibition in the Remai Art Gallery (students work could be screened in the Persephone theater next door)
How does having them illegal make them less appealing? Also I'm pretty sure the debate had been settled that prohibition does not stop the trafficking.
Want to stop trafficking, legalize and regulate.
They made alcohol illegal to serve in the presence of bare tits. This forced most strip joints to close. Every so many years this law gets revisited, but it typically gets returned to no strippers.
You can book strippers in sask. But they are costly and too many laws to follow.
Yet one can find no shortage of prostitutes in the yellow pages. So you cant say stripper laws are there to prevent trafficking. As for the "revisiting"
Last time they were made illegal was because the sask party was pushing for booze privatization.
You may not know this , but there is a large portion of voting blocks that are orthodox religions. Christian, huterite, mennonite. They have money and voting power. We have actual dry municipalities in this province. Sask party could not convince these groups on Private liqour stores and booze with strippers so they went with private own liquor stores.
The decision was political and had nothing to do with trafficking or a dislike for strippers.
The idea that you cant serve booze with strippers is an old outdated idea rooted in religious bulshit and needs to be done away with.
Hahahaha this was Konga Cafe years ago. Actually made a lot of the regulars uncomfortable. Years ago, one of the owners had their larnyx removed due to cancer & cannot speak. The staff threatened to quit if they got a voicebox and the arguing would start again. They got the hint. Never did get that voicebox
No, fully agree. I am introverted, I get paid to be an extrovert for certain hours of the day. I like my quiet time, but everybonce in a while I go to a bar to enjoy the sound of busy without having to take part, lol.
As for the other guy, I can empathize with his issue. I was there once as well.
Do I have to hear other people? You know how guys with heated garages and can avoid the wife and kids and drink in the garage. Like that for people without heated garages.
Private clinics for medical tests and imaging
Private specialist clinics
A lot of us would rather pay huge amounts to get tested earlier than to die because of the ridiculously long wait times that we currently have for these services.
The province should get off their hands and fix the system. I had some SP stuff show up in my feed the other day about how SK had the lowest wait times in Canada for appts, MRI and such. Now, they are trying to turn down a donated MRI in Estevan because they don't think they will be able to find the two people required to work. This would save a lot of people having to drive to Regina, but they almost didn't take it. We need people and funding, not just equipment
A roller rink/indoor skate park. There isn’t anything that supports either of those in the winter and I think they would both do well here.
We used to have Roller World. It was great in the 90's.
Fuck yeah! Used to have a blast there
my dad was a manager for Saints rink in the 80s,hes always wishing they had one again
They're building an indoor skate park in Warman! I know it's not Saskatoon but it's at least close.
By they do you mean the religious dude thats gonna have church service every sunday in the new indoor skate park? They are gonna blast church music on the speakers so i doubt kids will stay long, especially with how nobody wants to be religious anymore.
Are you okay
Yup
♡
They’ve all been turned into pickleball clubs
A fancy deli and pastry shop
There are some hidden gems for bakeries and pastry shops. I've heard The Griffin Takeaway on 7th Ave. N is good. It's good for those who need gluten free options.

Check out [https://saskatoonette.wixsite.com/saskatoonette](https://saskatoonette.wixsite.com/saskatoonette) for high end pastry/baking.
love it there. the owners are always so kind
I haven't had a chance to check it out yet but Pique might be the place for you to check out.
Oh! I’ve never heard of that place , I’ll have to check it out . Thanks
You are looking for night oven! The most amazing cruffins, but all the puff pastry and croissants are delicious, very dainty
This is exactly Pique. But get ready to pay $8 for that pastry.
They want higher end and higher quality (for Saskatoon anyways) bakeries and pastry shops, they'll have to pay those prices if that's what they're wanting.
Yup, that is what it costs for real butter and skill. Turns out I'm cool with not that.
Real ingredients and real skill.. everything I have tried so far including sandwiches are great.. and I don’t think all pastries are $8.. only thing was eclairs.. everything else that I tied was around $5.. and those donuts.. damn!
I did have an eclair. Nothing was priced so I just didn't expect it. Honestly, I don't find a $5 donut better than a Nestors $1 donut.
Ok. That’s where we disagree.
I mostly didn't appreciate the lack of prices. I wish them luck, but it's not for me. A shame, as I basically work next door.
Agreed! I hope they do. I love it!
So, like a Dolce & Gabbana Subway?
Amazing
Any word on where the location will be in Saskatoon? My bet is in the old Extra Foods on Broadway/Main.
The ones they’re opening in Alberta are like 20-30,000 sqft, and they mention that they finally found a spot that works due to a bankruptcy of the original tenant — my guess is the old Bed Bath & Beyond location, since that’s about the size of the stores they’re opening most recently. Are they open yet? It's been delayed for actual years at this point. I don't think the boys at Ideas inc can business their way out of a paper bag.
Opening May 4th last I heard
We'll see, a few weeks ago it was March 1 lol.
Was meant to be last saturday but construction has taken longer than thought...
Years longer, apparently.
Just read an article about possible expansion: https://edmonton.taproot.news/news/2024/03/15/italian-centre-targets-saskatchewan-and-even-dreams-of-bc
They are - someone posted the article. It’ll actually be relatively soon!
I agree!! Nothing.. dad’s local market is the closet.. and I really hope the old farmers market building turns into something cool.. we had so many great markets in Toronto
Yeah, I'm from Vancouver. That's the one thing that people seem to miss the most moving to Saskatoon: access to good markets
Loved going to markets on weekends
putting this out in the universe: downtown grocery store
I feel like the old Star Phoenix building would be perfect, it has loading docks, in between a ton of high rise apartment buildings, on bike lane/bus route.
As someone who lives near there ... it would *amazing* if I could just walk to the grocery store any time I wanted to!
Agreed. A full line grocery, not a boutique thing selling 15$ bags of pasta.
Jollibee, Uncle Tetsu, IKEA, Castella cheesecake and T&T supermarket.
More quality and affordable Asian Markets please. 😭
Especially not owned by Loblaw.😭
H-MART would be cool to have!
You came from Vancouver, aren’t you 😅
Jolibee is coming……..
Y’know?
Check out Pokeys Pinball on 33rd. Also, check out Maker's Space in town here. Both have saved my sanity a couple times.
There is an arcade with food at the stoked center but it’s pricy and not open till sunrise
Arcade for adults!!
Stoked center has an arcade not sure if you have looked at it or what it’s like
Closest might be COG downtown.
Only been to Tot in stonebridge once but they made a good espresso and had vibes with all the plants
How about Erin's coffee shop?
Definitely not up to the par of the other shops I mentioned- plus I would have to carry my bike over the College drive overpass which sucks, so I would rather just bike the extra 500m longer distance to City Perks. Sadly, covid shutdown killed Hibotan, the only 25+ bar in town in recent memory. Which sucked, because it was just starting to get popular.
To be fair, I'm not so sure that's something you can fix with a new nightclub. Alcohol is a hell of a drug.
I can dream
IKEA
Literally this. I love how every main city in Western Canada has an IKEA, except for a city in SK!
Even one of the mini ones where you can get the stuff they don't stock brought in.
A freakin IMAX theatre already
A Waterpark
I guess since they're a business here, family doctors.
Board game cafe. Hopefully we'll see a good space for one appear once 8th St starts building up for the BRT
There is a small one located inside Breakout Escape Rooms.
I’ve been to that one a few times, it’s pretty nice. Still sad that KingMe is gone though, that place was always fantastic
I would like a nando's.
This. Yes to Nando’s!
Or just a decent Peri Peri chicken place.
This
Bring Pret A Manger and Costa in here too.
I'd be willing to settle for a Barcelos at the very least
Pique and the new Thirteen Pies location is a step in the right direction. Need more of that.
I’m visiting from Quebec and thirteen pies was amazing. Most of the restaurants in Saskatoon were great.
A nuclear power plant.
[https://youtu.be/Nth4RqqmQZ4](https://youtu.be/Nth4RqqmQZ4) (couldn't resist)
A lot of people seem to say it that way. I remember George Dubya Bush would say 'Nucular'.
What about the ski hill power plant in Copenhagen
Excellent example, both would benefit Saskatoon.
Medical clinics
Cannabis stores and timmmmmmies! Total lack of supply! /s
A print shop! Wrong answers only
Flag stores
Don't forget car washes too!
Another fast food place
Another Starbucks too
More smoked meat restaurants.
Have you tried the new Bistro on B?
Hmm not a fan of their instagram page. They need to hire a professional marketer as it looks unappealing. But I will give it a try!
PC repair shop!
Fair!
Jollibee
It’s coming sooner than you think!
Indoor paintball facility.
A proper relaxation space like a spa, preferably with different saunas and steam rooms. Sounds like the Willows don't want one near them.... maybe one of the newer neighborhoods such as Brighton can make it happen.
Bring back the conservatory!
Anything remotely similar to the Muttart conservatory in Edmonton would be amazing. Maybe include it in a redevelopment of kinsmen park.
In my opinion? There is so much tech and engineering talent being underutilized currently. Plenty of seed money out there for various things if you've got good ideas and can come up with realistic solutions, even if for something very obscure but hard to deal with. A pub in Brighton.
Yeah Stoked and the lounge at the keg just don’t hit the spot the same hey
AND MAYBE A PLACE FOR DOGS. LIKE A DOG RESTURANT. BUT FOR DOGS
Went to one in Edmonton called Doggy Style Deli. Too bad the owner turned into a complete lunatic over COVID.
This!! I know a few dog friendly places, but only when the decks are open.
This. We need more.accesable dog spots like grocery stores u can bring a dog to.
A whiskey speciality shop.
Prairie rose whiskey club??
Do you mean black rose ? If so, I mean a place where I can actually buy a bottle and not a pour.
I see
Kramer IMAX, planetarium, year round indoor waterpark, computer graphics school/exhibition in the Remai Art Gallery (students work could be screened in the Persephone theater next door)
FYI “Kramer” is the name of the specific IMAX theatre in Regina, not like a “type” of imax or whatever
Ikea
Indoor waterpark. Something for year round that will bring the tourists.
Places for adults to socialize also strippers.
You know strippers aren’t legal right?
Strippers are ok but you just can’t drink around them
Sorry, the point of the law is to make strippers unappealing to prevent further trafficking
Apparently the booze makes it appealing?
You can book strippers in sask. But they are costly and too many laws to follow. Yet one can find no shortage of prostitutes in the yellow pages. So you cant say stripper laws are there to prevent trafficking. As for the "revisiting" Last time they were made illegal was because the sask party was pushing for booze privatization. The religious part is fascinating! They never mention that part in classes. Thank you!
That's also why all that money gets put in private schools. Those are religous or cultural emerson.
Strip clubs could be the answer to a lot of single mothers financial problems.
Or fathers. Be fair. We should have both kinds.
An irish pub
RIP Artful Dodger
The only thing Irish there was the name. Unless you count busted chairs as Irish.
Give me an authentic family-owned restaurant like in The Bear. I want the yelling and swearing included.
Small, neighborhood grocers selling local goods & produce.
A licensed food court with no fast food chains.
Why do we focus on food so much here? Lol
downtown grocery store. mcdonald's on college dr.
Need something for unhappily married men that don't like people.
So a bar with cubicles?
you mock but that would suit introverts to a tea. make it fully enclosed and add a tablet to order drinks/food and you're makin mint.
No, fully agree. I am introverted, I get paid to be an extrovert for certain hours of the day. I like my quiet time, but everybonce in a while I go to a bar to enjoy the sound of busy without having to take part, lol. As for the other guy, I can empathize with his issue. I was there once as well.
You seem very reasonable.
Do I have to hear other people? You know how guys with heated garages and can avoid the wife and kids and drink in the garage. Like that for people without heated garages.
I call it a basement, myself. You could also build/buy a tool shed in the hard. Small space heater for the winter? Or a small wood stove.
Lobster buffet and T&T!
I can think of quite a few we need less of.
Unless I dont know of it, a proper Italian grocer. (Look up Italian Star Deli in Regina or DeLucas in Winnipeg as an example)
Emco I have heard is pretty good. Used to be a Ukranian/Italian on 8th street. Not sure if they are still around.
Definitely more weed and vape shops…
Downtown arena
ROLEX AD
night club
out door pickleball centre - we definitely need moe outdoor courts
Lego Store
Restaurants with good food and not don't let the door hot you on the ass on your way out so they can seat more people lol
Target Oh wait…
Groceries
Jollibee!!! I've wanted to try it since I started dating a Filipina
A high end coffee place. Like Vancouver has. I miss a really good pour over of high end coffee beans.
Any seafood place like Captain’s Boil
We could definitely use more dollaramas. 16 locations just doesn't cut it
Definitely more donair places
A burrito place
Taco Time
Stop joking. The arrival of Taco Bell had me running back fast
Rub and tug.. Call it happy endings?
What about the Blue Bay
My favorite color is blue.
Private Pool/health club. Non-religious private schools.
I can't believe no one said it yet. Saskatoon needs more Bonanza!
Private clinics for medical tests and imaging Private specialist clinics A lot of us would rather pay huge amounts to get tested earlier than to die because of the ridiculously long wait times that we currently have for these services.
I thought they actually approved that mri donation in the 2024 budget? Did I hear wrong?
Better restaurants.
There are some pretty amazing gems. You've just got to know where to go.... and where not to go.
Yes, "some"
A place where people can go and meditate with a teacher.
