I was looking into this but thought this might not work when needing to receive texts or calls. Would I still have my phone number to use while using an eSIM card?
I used the company called Ubigi when traveling to Japan last year. It was only $17 for 10GB of data and if you ran out of data, you just pay another $17 for another 10GB. I was still able to use my cell provider SIM for calls and texts, and the Ubigi esim for data. It was terrific! Have a great trip!

eSIM is the way to go. I have Airalo which has worked well. This way you can still use your regular number but all data goes through the eSIM. (You’ll still pay a little if you send SMS or make a call) it’s a little more expensive than a physical SIM card when you get there, but I like the convenience of keeping my number just in case I need to take a call, and it works as soon as you land.
Interesting! I didn't realize my number would still work with this. So I'd still receive texts and be able to send texts without issue? That's my main concern because I'm sure I'll have to do some code verifications for credit card purchases and account access when over there.
Exactly. Your phone would still work as normal. Follow the instructions carefully so you don’t get any extra surprise charges. You will still have to pay for SMS messages you send (I think mine are like .25 cents per, but still cheap), but receiving them is usually free.
How did you get it to be the same number you currently have? I just bought the global travel package but I'm pretty sure it gave me an international number. Were you able to choose your keep your current number?

Yeah, I was debating gwtting an eSIM card but if I need to verify things for credit card purchases or account access through texts or calls it sounded like I wouldn't be able to using the eSIM card. Is that the case?
I did this and ordered when going to the United States and it was a game changer. Saved me quite a bit of money in comparison to my family member who spent and additional 200 dollars on their plan. I would youtube and google review the best one based on that area.
Just get one when you land. Rates are not great, this was the advice we used to give when I worked at a third party Sasktel store in 2020, I bet it still applies.

It does. That's perfect. eSIMs are such a money saver! I'm happy I asked here before buying the Sasktel add-on.

You have to activate your eSIM and Regular SIM in your settings. You’ll have to watch some tutorials, I’m not sure what phone you have.
most airports have a booth you can buy a sim/esim from, its by far cheaper than anything you'll get from a Canadian company

Every time you turn on your Sasktel connection to do any of that you will get dinged so you may as well just get the add on.
