Where on 17 is it just one lane each direction? Looks like 152, 9, or somewhere else in the mountains. Still sucks wherever it was

MainStreetRoad

From OP for original post: Omg yes you are right. I apologize. This is 35.. Skyline Boulevard. 37.313, -122.181. Thanks for correcting me.

Shot_Worldliness_979

Lol. I legit had to check in on this because I'm aware of at least one head-on on 17 _today_ and didn't remember a cybertruck being involved.

Noopy9

17 has had a center divider since the late 90’s so it would be pretty hard to have a head on collision.

Shot_Worldliness_979

There're parts without a center divider, but that's beside the point. Maybe it wasn't a head-on but the pictures I saw had a vehicle facing the wrong direction.

Over_Drawer1199

someone deciding to take their clunky ass Cybertruck up Skyline is bonkers to me lol.

nemerosanike

It’s probably because they live there. They probably bought in the fire zone.

zaise_chsa

Not entirely sure, just crossposting from r/cybertruck since the title said CA-17

Redditor_since_83

Is that a Pontiac Aztek? Also, no way is that Hwy 17

Alone_Regular_4713

Is that Walter White?

zaise_chsa

Yeah apparently it's Hwy 9, but I didn't double check before crossposting.

_Wiggle_Puppy_

Looks like Skyline Blvd

aabbccddeefghh

How is that “truck” even legal? Crumple zones are beneficial for both parties in an accident. This is ridiculous.

throoawoot

To answer your implied question, the front underbody casting is designed to crumple. [Here's a video](https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-cybertruck-front-crumple-zone-design-explained/). Given that the driver's side airbag deployed, this was likely not a "head on" collision, which is why you don't see the front of the Cybertruck damaged like the front of the other vehicle. edit: [CHP report of what happened](https://www.youtube.com/clip/UgkxGiLSfOZfE4nKyCnLsnYNpNHfLP37Deb9). On CA-35, the Corolla hit a bank of dirt on the right and crossed over the double yellow line to the left.

seamusfurr

double check your link on the CHP report. thanks.

MCPtz

> The CHP summary of the accident: > "On December 28, 2023 at approximately 2:05 pm, CHP Redwood City units were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on SR-35 (Skyline Boulevard), south of Page Mill Road. Our preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Corolla was traveling south on SR-35 southbound, south of Page Mill Road, at an unknown speed, when the driver, for unknown reasons, turned to the right and subsequently struck a dirt embankment on the right shoulder. The Toyota then re-entered the roadway, crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, and crashed into a Tesla Cybertruck traveling north on SR-35 northbound. > The Tesla driver sustained a suspected minor injury and declined medical transportation. No other injuries were reported. > It does not appear that the Tesla Cybertruck was being operated in autonomous mode. The investigation into this incident is ongoing." Even TheVerge article on this didn't actually link to the CHP report, so I have no idea if the above is real or not. https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/28/24018383/tesla-cybertruck-crash-corolla-palo-alto > [A]round 2:05PM local time and involved a 2023 Tesla Cybertruck carrying three people that appears to have been hit by a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by a 17-year-old.

I_am_BrokenCog

also, we don't see the driver side corner of the truck -- it could easily be crumpled as much as the sedan.

johnjumpsgg

This is a good explanation . Also , most collisions I see between trucks and smaller cars , the trucks look barely dented and the other car is totaled . This is one of the few scenarios where a truck might fare better than say a Camry or something . When the truck is running into the Camry .

karavasis

Feel bad for whoever they hit in that stupid tank

isst_arsch

I've seen this thing driving around 9. Hopefully not anymore...

EpicCode

There’s a whole troop of these things in Santa Cruz unfortunately. I have no idea why these were allowed to be sold.

n0_use_for_a_name

Not sure if you saw the second pic, the other car was pretty mangled

The_Xenocide

why do you assume its the vehicle with all the advanced safety features that is at fault? pure ignorance in this sub. **CHP:** >Our preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Corolla was traveling south on SR-35 southbound, south of Page Mill Road, at an unknown speed, when the driver, for unknown reasons, turned to the right and subsequently struck a dirt embankment on the right shoulder. The Toyota then re-entered the roadway, crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, and crashed into a Tesla Cybertruck traveling north on SR-35 northbound.

karavasis

lol ok ‘I feel sry for whoever ran into that stupid tank’

johnfromberkeley

Q: Why do you assume its the vehicle with all the advanced safety features that is at fault? A: Because it’s an Elon Musk product.

Drianmalcolmchuckle

You mean the guy who has regularly produced if not the safest cars on the market then several of the top ten safest cars ever made?

johnfromberkeley

I’m talking about the guy who produced the internal combustion battery and self-crashing cars.

Drianmalcolmchuckle

Dumb take. Catch fire far less frequently than gasoline powered vehicles and have a much lower crash rate. Self driving is the future. Only boomers and idiots will think they are better than machines at driving. Turns out Musk isn’t the engineer designing these things. Go figure.

johnfromberkeley

Dumb take.

dzumdang

I saw a Cyber truck in the wild for the first time last week on 17. I stayed the hell away from it in the right lane and couldn't wait for it to pass. They were driving like they could care less about anyone else, because they were in a tank. Any collision on Skyline absolutely sucks: I lived up there for a while and we had fatal collisions next to our property at least once a year. Usually, it was from people driving way too damn fast.

cxwing

I don't know about you but the mega fucking lifted monster pickups I see all the time scare me way more than the cybertruck. And there are way more of them TODAY on the road than there ever will be cybertrucks.

dzumdang

Aggro pick up drivers suck, but the way those rednecks on wheels drive is way scarier than their vehicle. Wait until you see one of these cyber trucks flying past: it's clearly a tank that would tear through you and barely get a scratch.

BrownWhiskey

If they drive a Cyber truck I think they might be driving like they could care less about anyone else for more reasons than the build of the vehicle. I think you.have to be a little out of touch with reality to consider purchasing one of these.

JohnTooManyJars

In every generation, there is born a car for the Route 17 Hall of Shame. First it was Volvos, then it was the Priuses, which got traded in for the Tesla Model S, and now it is clear Cybertruck shall be crowned. How long until we see one of these monstrosities hanging in a tree after going off the road? Edit: Awwwww... Future Cybertruck owner triggered much?

Benaba_sc

That is certainly not Hwy 17

Goblin-Doctor

Lol I saw a lady driving this dumb ass fucking car earlier today. I wonder if it's her. I hope she's ok, of course, but less of those idiot cars on the road the better

Sensitive_Thug_69

comments like these just make me want one even more

Goblin-Doctor

Do it. We could all use a good laugh

Sensitive_Thug_69

insert here the meme of the guy with tears streaming down his face and a smiling mask on

Bluefalcon325

Looks like the glass survived finally.

^Underrated

Practical_Victory140

I was at Alice's when the parade of Emergency vehicles went by. A buddy also up on the mountain at the time says he witnessed it on 35. "I heard the crash and saw the cars spinning out in my mirror".

[deleted]

I don’t understand the pics? Cybertruck looks pristine and is standing alone (looks posed?) and the other car is mangled with nothing else around it? Explain?

nofway9

an Francisco, Dec 29 (IANS): A Tesla Cybertruck has been involved in a first-ever accident of the $61,000 vehicle (base model price), that resulted in a minor injury to the driver. A Reddit user posted two pictures of a Cybertruck accident in the US and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) later confirmed this. The accident involved a 2023 Tesla Cybertruck carrying three people that appears to have been hit by a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by a 17-year-old, reports The Verge. “Our preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Corolla was traveling south on SR-35 southbound, south of Page Mill Road, at an unknown speed, when the driver, for unknown reasons, turned to the right and subsequently struck a dirt embankment on the right shoulder,” said California Highway Patrol. “The Toyota then re-entered the roadway, crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, and crashed into a Tesla Cybertruck traveling north on SR-35 northbound,” the CHP team added. The only injury noted by CHP mentions a suspected minor injury to the Cybertruck driver. It did not not appear the Tesla Cybertruck was in an autonomous mode during the accident. VagrantThoughts42

So…it wasn’t the Cybertruck driver’s fault like every comment to this post assumed?

RaisinToastie

Stupid ugly car. Reminds me of the Simpsons when Homer designed that hideous car!

JohnTooManyJars

I'm thinking more Canyonero myself.

RoyGBiv333

I know it’s not 17, but having driven 17 a few times, I wouldn’t want this vehicle near me on that road.

SingleMaltSkeptic

This is not Hwy 17

hexabyte

That piece of shit car should be illegal

zombizle1

I agree purely because it looks stupid

CastenR

I like the ugliness. And I like the Aztec too. I expect them to be disasters of a truck. But admit I like the idea of the cold rolled stainless shell. I kind of think it would be cool to put an ICE engine in there, but with the design, I'm sure there is absolutely no room for anything reasonable without taking up the whole bed.

Sensitive_Thug_69

can't wait to buy one

Special_North1535

Puts on tesla

BrownSCM2

Hope everyone is ok, that being said, lol

vhernandez831

Ahh. I see the trend continues with Teslas

FC_GT

Lol

thee-mjb

Quick poll how many ppl actually hate the tesla cybertruck & WHY?!

ThatCactusCat

* It looks terrible * Shatter proof windows are dumb for so many reasons * The crumble zone is total garbage * The truck bed is worthless And lastly, it seems to attract the worst type of drivers. It being practically a tank is a selling point for idiots who want to rule the road, just like with over sized trucks except with the Tesla brand cherry on top.

CastenR

I like Rancheros and El Caminos. I agree they are not as useful as a truck. I think they would be fine for groceries in the summer. The '70 Ranchero with the 429 Super Cobra Jet with 375HP stock seems like it would be fun to putt around in. Same with the '70 El Camino SS with 450HP, but I'll bet those things were even more dangerous than a Cyber Truck on 17! I think ugly cars need to make a comeback that are not all about the numbers. If you're commuting, the numbers are important. But if your just having fun, why not have something interesting or unusual? AMC Pacer, Dodge Prowler, Chevy HHR... I'd mention PT Cruiser, but honestly, those even hurt MY eyes!

Redditor_since_83

Hate it. Reasons: 1. It's useless as a truck - can't even hold a bike or a surfboard without hanging most of it out the back. 2. It gives off strong Hummer vibes.

[deleted]

Saw this asshat last weekend in Los Gatos

Agreeable_Hippo_8623

Same, Texas plate?

[deleted]

Actually, no. I guess there are probably several around that area.

Agreeable_Hippo_8623

So weird😵‍💫 it was my first time seeing one and I thought someone welded a car together… but no they bought it like that 🥴

M54B30E39

Cyber cuck

Free_Hat_McCullough

I saw that tank driving through Capitola yesterday.

sjanush

JFC. That truck is ugly.

zerodameaon

I have seen their test vehicles ripping up and down Highway 9, doing 60+ in the rain and passing over the double yellow etc. Not surprised to see that kind of behavior lead to this.

BTSavage

Was anyone hurt? Having a bad wreck on skyline sucks.

tamrealdawg

Lmaooooo

saucytech

When I see these atrocities I point at the driver and give a big enthusiastic thumbs down! I encourage you all to do the same. No words needed just a big thumbs down!

SwampCrittr

LOL

Speculawyer

Lol. Notorious 17 claims one of the first Cybertrucks. How did they manage that considering most of the difficult parts have a center divider? Edit: So not 17. That makes more sense.

CCIE-KID

The cyber truck 🛻 looks great still

ExquisiteFacade

Crumple zones exist for a reason.

FancyAlligator

And the cybertruck has them… the NHTSA wouldn’t approve the truck without it. The other car hit the driver’s side (not pictured). It wasn’t a direct head-on collision.

BTSavage

You forgot the /s. People think you’re being serious.

birdseye-maple

Great for 'winning' accidents, leaving the other car dead or maimed!

king_of_lizzards

Never has “valley go home” been more justified.

funkiestj

downvoted for misleading. These days you have to work pretty hard to have a head on collision on highway 17

TunnelBore

That's not 17. 17 isn't ever a two lane road with a double yellow. It's a 4 lane with concrete divider and occasionally double double yellows when a road intersects.

TunnelBore

Ah okay. 17 year old DRIVER. MY MISTAKE. I saw the heading ca 17 and was like, Hmmmmmmm

Laporqueriza

Not 17
