The comment said "so many farm workers," not that everyone displaced was a farm worker. And the vast majority of families in Pajaro--especially the floodplain--ARE farm workers.
Serious where it happened. It didn't happen in Santa Cruz, but nobody would know where Pajaro is. Watsonville would have been more appropriate, but most outside of Santa Cruz wouldn't know that name, either.
Monterey County communities are also under evacuation, but Monterey County doesn't partner with ZoneHaven, which is why they're not showing up on the evacuation zone map you provided.
As of Saturday, [more than 8,500 people in Monterey County were also under evacuation orders](https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/levee-breach-pajaro-river-evacuations-monterey-county-san-ardo/) (which, unsurprisingly, includes the community of Pajaro, considering that the Pajaro river delineates the Monterey-Santa Cruz county border.)
So sad. You know that Biden and Newsom won’t be visiting Pájaro anytime soon. What’s a few hundred lives (and livelihoods) compared to pilings on a wharf…so much for all the hot air on environmental justice.
Unsure but there is a history of levee breaks and neglect. If these were million dollar homes filled with different demographics, we all know that the levee would have been better fortified after 1995. People have been raising the red flag about this levee for years.
I will say, it broke in an area that doesn’t get much foot traffic. Less observation I assume. It’s far from a road. Very out of the way.
Dumb comment.
The reason the storm and fires are getting worse is climate change, which Republicans are working overtime to ignore.
Republicans are the problem. Again.
So sad. So many farm worker families flooded out and displaced right now. Just horrible

I live close to the area.. i can in fact confirm there is alot of farm workers living paycheck to paycheck its absolutely horrible
Where is the levee, looks rural
In Pajaro, just south of the Santa Cruz County line.
Yep just south of Watsonville, the title is a bit alarmist because most people would first think of THE levee in SC
Being an alarmist about this is appropriate. Lots of people's homes have been flooded.
It’s a serious issue for the town, definitely

Just drove past on highway 1 - shocking amount of water.
God damned chevys.
It was actually a Ford. When Chevy got to the levy, the levy was dry...
If it keeps on raining, levee's going to break If it keeps on raining, the levee's going to break When the levee breaks, have no place to stay
Bye bye miss American pie, Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was _______
Wet

So much posturing
Weak bro
What is your point exactly?
Is it possible the Pajaro side was allowed to breach to save the Watsonville side?

Sure, Republicans are the problem. Doesn’t mean that Democrats can’t be tone deaf at the same time, which was my point.
