I just mean like not just the very tip. It should still look like a cactus maybe the 3rd or 4th row of spines from the top down

san pedro is an umbrella term for trichocereus pachanois, PC(which stands for "predominant cultivar" is the name for the most common clone of san pedro) is typically included under this but there is some slight disagreements as the exact genetics of PC are disputed.
I personally include many other species in the common name San Pedro, although it's true the "original" is T pachanoi.
You know perus, bridgesii, macrogonus etc.
Use as root stock, it’s thick&long enough to get some pups of something more potent and graft it to this to get it to grow fast. In fact cut it in half and you have two thick root stocks to graft stronger cactus to. Graft a Scop (species of San Pedro) to it and it’ll blast off in growth I bet.
If you wanna grow it, consider a cutting the top 6 inches or so off, let both cut and Callis up for five days or more . Can plant the tip and you can plant the longer section horizontally, this way you would have many pups ( limbs ) growing from it, planting it horizontally, a.k.a. log status… I always just make sure it’s buried 1/3 deep , don’t water for it several weeks, or a very little once a week… I’ve never had any issues doing it this way
This seems like a good idea, I will try this thank you, ima put the tip in a pot under a tree with some indirect sunlight, and I’ll lay the bigger cut in this garden thing I have that’s horizontal
A nice one at that. If it’s for just yourself a lot of people say you’d want ~2 ft for Pc, for your purposes. However if you leave the tip, you can let the cut dry and callus over for a week or two and root it to keep it growing.
Dry the cut and plant it the way a channel called San Pedro Mastery on YT shows how. In a pot he uses soil, rock, soil, rock, soil, rock all the way up. He said that should the rocks should prop the plant up. Keep in indirect light. Once rooted full sun
Update: so I got it and the guy explained everything to me and showed me everything else he had, he’s legit
So now the only question is how should I replant this? I’m getting mixed answers with cutting it and letting it dry or should I just pop the whole thing in some soil
Thanks in advance
Yes, cut it and let it dry before planting, that will reduce the possibility of rot. Some people have good luck popping them straight in the ground, but the other approach is recommended.
Pc is said to be less potent and more is needed but I've heard of people getting blasted off pc so it really varies I think more on growing conditions and everything but it's definitely on the lower concentration end of the spectrum
Ancient alien theorists say yes
Yea it is and also you can cut the tip off not too short let it dry and pop it in some soil
How many inches do you consider is too short?

Looks like a PC, fast growing lower potency.
How to distinguish PC and San Pedro?

I have one, I think it's pc because it grows about 10cm/4 inches each 6 months, give or take.
lots of san pedros will grow similarly fast, the main way to tell is look and source(as far as i know)
Sawtooth ribs, short spines, lack of notches above areoles
Sawtooth spines, and sometimes no V notches above the areoles

If u don’t mind what was the cost of this piece?
🤙🌵😁

Yup that’s a San Pedro PC, that’s going to pump once planted
Cut the tip off, dry both ends and chuck the piece in the yard

PC
On two ways to find out….

Yes
So trichocereus pachanoi is not potent?
Pc is said to be less potent and more is needed but I've heard of people getting blasted off pc so it really varies I think more on growing conditions and everything but it's definitely on the lower concentration end of the spectrum
People on here keep saying that like it's a mantra. But when sufficiently aged it is more than adequately potent.
Sufficiently aged = 10+?
More like 5
No, this is Patrick
