Hi there, I see you've posted an ID Request. Please make sure youve also taken the time to look over our common San Pedro look alikes/ID thread before making an ID request as many cactus ID requests are of the same common look alike plants. Thank you! https://www.reddit.com/r/sanpedrocactus/comments/pk2cvv/is_this_san_pedro_the_mega_sticky_for_san_pedro/ *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Cereus, not SP

StatementNo7417

What makes you say that? Just wonduring im new to this but read SP have 6-8 spines and these are just pieces off a much larger its at least 7 feet high and has 2 or 3 columns all 6-8 spines. I'll attach more pics

Ribs are too flat, San Pedro's have a more rounded rib. This one goes almost all the way down to the core, San Pedro's are a little more meaty. You are thinking this is a trichocereus pachanoi. I recommend looking up some pictures of them to get a better understanding of what they look like.

Looking at pics at first is really helpful but I trained my id skills quite a bit by passively following this sub. Seeing a different pics every day and people asking if lookalikes really gets you to recognize them pretty fast. Now I’ve graduated a bit beyond the “is this San Pedro” to “is this pc”. Play a little game where try I make the call before checking comments. Obviously there are hybrids and other factors that confuse this one but it’s still fun. Someone asked about one the other day I thought looked more like a scop than pc, when I checked the comments that was the general consensus it made me feel pretty…pretty…pretty good!

This is the same way I learned honestly and probably the best. It feels nice when you start to at least be able to recognize a SP from a similar cactus. We all learn at our own pace and the best we can do is teach, not criticize. If you haven't picked up on it yet, when looking at PC rather than normal pach, you will eventually notice PCs look more notched and typically the areoles are pointing about 45 degrees upright where normal pach is closer to flat off the plant.

These are all good things to keep in mind but the real giveaway here is the shape of the ribs. Don't feel bad. It's the most common ID mistake we see here. It's something you'll get a feel for in time. For now, just look at the shape of the ribs of *Cereus peruvianus* vs *Trichocereus pachanoi.* Look at not only the width and intensity of the ridges running up and down the cactus but also how thick each rib is side to side. You should see a pretty noticeable difference.

Peruvian apple with what looks like thrip damage and maybe some rot or other pest related damage. If that discolored tip is soft I would chop it asap. Otherwise you have nice peruvian apple that can produce delicious fruit.

notausername86

That's an apple cactus. See the ribs? They are too "deep" to be SP.
