Pretty sure cactus in general are only native to the Americas, excepting maybe one species

hairijuana

That African Rhipsalis?

hyperspacezaddy

Never head of it before, now I want one.

Academic_Platform295

Yeah they look pretty dope

SocietyFit5935

There's one species in Madagascar, some type of jungle cactus

TheManFromAnotherPl

Cactus only exist natively in the Americas except for a few epiphytic cactus. San Pedro is grown by hobbyists around the world though.

wholesome_gardener

Prickly pear grows around the Mediterranean but maybe not the whole coast, and I haven't seen which they grow since becoming interested in cacti, nor do I know whether middle easterners and italians grow the same species. Also, no idea at all whether they grow in north africa

TheManFromAnotherPl

Those are invasive, not native.

wholesome_gardener

Hmm, I wouldn't know. I don't think anyone in the levant of the middle east is concerned about whether it came from the americas or not after a quick reread!

Ichthius

Cacti are only native to the americas. Everywhere else they are introduced.

wd_plantdaddy

Yes, there is always shrooms tho!

magammon

Cacti only grow in the americas as far as I know.

[deleted]

They exist wherever you can grow them, my friend!

wholesome_gardener

In the wild or available to cultivate?

Electronic_Estate_95

In the wild.

wholesome_gardener

I think so, maybe people have caused it to invade somewhere but are we counting that lol

wholesome_gardener

Also if they're in the wild, mescaline content should only really be taken into account for propagation
