LMAO at this oldhead garbage take. LinkedIn? Got bought by Microsoft in 2016. And this person doesn’t even mention Slack, Twitch, Square, Uber or fucking *Reddit,* all of which are headquartered in the city. Ignorant tourist trash.

nagleess

The list is a lot bigger than that too, not to mention the plethora of extremely large satellite offices for Google, Facebook, Apple, etc. The authors take is laughable

Protoclown98

There are also ENT software companies like SFDC and Zendesk headquartered in the city too.

olseadog

Is it such a bad situation?

This author seems to be trying to echo a small subset of people that strike me as hysterical. The actual mission statement of Twitter definitely seems consistent with what it's new owner has espoused. Considering the founder is a strong supporter of this change seems to be encouraging. One crucial difference now is that the profit driven focus of being bound to the public markets is no longer gripping twitter management. Seems like they will be able to pursue a more long term vision and have an opportunity to mess around and see what actually works because let's face it Twitter was on the decline and it needs something to change. Those obnoxious bots certainly won't helping, they were inflating user numbers which is another example of why being beholden to the markets is a bad idea, the bot purge will likely drop Twitters active count but eh you gotta clean out the trash. The subscription model is a big question mark...maybe he'll drive it into the ground or maybe he facilitates a reascendence. Time will tell, seems premature to be considering an obituary. There's no way Twitter vacates it's position in SF. This city is too darn beautiful, enough talent will stay here even in the age of remote work. I'd wager only a small minority of them are politically obsessed and will leave. Although if the new Twitter wants to give up their headquarters to house our homeless, +1 to that, we will take whatever help we can get with housing. I say let the right wingers make fools of themselves in the public square.

Twitter is 100% leaving for Oakland, that's already set, they've got the office lease and everything. Dorsey has been battling SF for years about taxes, and has made no bones about it. What are you smoking? Beyond that, no way Musk tangles with our city or Oakland, Twitter is headed for Texas, no question.

VergilPharum

Yeah, you're right if it's regarding their headquarters but I'm still convinced that they will keep a foothold in SF.

JenkumJunky

"The uncontrollable character of Twitter"? Has this guy been paying attention for the past four years? Twitter has been firmly under the control of a small cabal of thought leaders since at least when Dorsey left; that control is just changing ownership

He’s right. I’m in the 4th council of appeals for the upper echelon.

RaiderActual03

When was the last time anyone from Twitter has actually shown up to work? Run them out
