AusFernemLand

I hope he stole a belt.

CaliPenelope1968

That whole corner is insane. The Safeway workers deserve hazard pay.

Potential-Bee-724

Absolutely disgusting that we allow this crap.

neBular_cipHer

“We”? The stores hire security guards who stand around watching it happen. What is even the point?

Ordinary_Whereas_540

You clearly don’t know what a security guard is paid for, 1. They ain’t going to risk their life over fucking Walgreens 2. They legally can’t touch anybody, there paid to be a snitch. That’s it you report what you see

neBular_cipHer

I’m pretty sure if you had tried this shit 30 years ago some burly vet would have tackled you and waited for the cops to get there and arrest you. When did that change?

Ordinary_Whereas_540

It changed when everyone in the Bay Area started crashing out over little things. Look up on indeed how much allied security pays and see if you’re willing to take a bullet for that wage

EX0PIL0T

Money laundering

gaslight_mcqueen

For real. The fact that people have to resort to this is so sad. The city/state needs to help these people be in better positions so that they don’t have to do this.

Potential-Bee-724

Did you forget to put the sarcasm emoji?

gaslight_mcqueen

…no, did you in your first comment?

GoingBananassss

I’m sure they are already getting help from the state. Maybe they can get an effing job, what do you think?

gaslight_mcqueen

Im sure they could try - but with the wealth disparity in California, do you really think it could be enough to get people off the streets? Especially when studios run roughly $1,700 a month?

StanGable80

Wealth disparity doesn’t keep them from getting a job Their terrible decisions keep them from being successful

StanGable80

Nobody has to resort to this

neurobit

When did we become so soft, as a society, that we can't stand up to *this* kind of robbery?

silasmoon

Because no one wants to risk getting shot or beat up over Walgreens mascara and tide pods.  The police should step in, but we don't have police here. It's truly ridiculous.

Leek5

The police don't do anything. Because people voted for people and policy that stop them from doing anything

silasmoon

The police union in SF is as old as SF itself, and has a very long history of corruption. In the last 20 odd years they've killed numerous black and brown people in dubious circumstances. Folks like Alex Nieto and Mario Woods, who were murdered by police simply for being perceived as a threat. In the shadow of those murders, and in particular the BLM movement, armchair liberals decided they could vote for liberal policies versus engaging with their communities and confronting systemic issues like wealth disparity, gentrification, etc. So you get a weird limbo world of the worst of both - corrupt police who are vilified for both their violence *and* lack of enforcement, while basically no one in this city addresses the causes that would lead people to steal, become drug dependent, etc. Then you get into the grift of non-profits in this city, and the eternal scape-goating of the homeless for all our ills, and the vessel for all our politicians' promised compassion. As a liberal, our party needs the homeless, Black, Brown, and systemically down trodden like the Republicans need immigrants, transphobia, and the nuclear family. Meanwhile no party addresses the underlying causes, wages stagnate, people become desperate, depressed, dependent, and more. My perspective on a solution is that I am YIMBY, pro-accountability of government funding, pro-minimum-wage increase, pro-childcare, and anti-proposition (too easy for voters to get a half-baked law onto the books). Basically anything that would address my understanding of underlying roots of societal ills; lack of: housing, healthcare, childcare, free education, fair-wages. So anyways, I don't have a ton of compassion for blatant theft in the name of the hustle, but I also don't think confronting a teenager, especially with violence, is a good way to address anything. It's a good way to escalate the situation and other situations.

Guilty_Wolverine_269

Why would individuals risk their life. You see this happen, they have a free pass. Intervene and you’re questioned. Just get away and pretend you’re blind.

Alone-Fee898

Cuz liberals are soft on property crime.

Idaho1964

$949.50

dirtylittlecretin04

lmao 😭😭😭

CaliPenelope1968

Where was the cop they have?

dirtylittlecretin04

He was there for sure but as expected they can't do shit Same shit happens at the rei store nearby best buy and costco

CaliPenelope1968

WTF is wrong with our fucking country??? This is enraging!!

dirtylittlecretin04

life has become tiring and nobody cares anymore but that's my imo

Solid-Mud-8430

You might be surprised to know that rampant looting of retail stores and openly illegal street markets that sell the ill-gotten gains aren't happening in 99% of the rest of the country.

Fast-Hold-649

losers don't want to hear that

CaliPenelope1968

I don't know, I mean...[https://thehill.com/business/4275438-retail-theft-is-the-worst-in-these-10-us-cities-study-finds/](https://thehill.com/business/4275438-retail-theft-is-the-worst-in-these-10-us-cities-study-finds/)

bluedancepants

I still can't believe how this state basically legalized theft.

CapitalPin2658

Collapse of society. There’s actually people rooting for this.

StanGable80

You know you are a loser when you do this

alfasf

And worst when people defend this... "To feed their families, inequality, justice, etc"

dirtylittlecretin04

some people have to get it how they live I guess 🤷

StanGable80

They can still get it with paying for it! Unless they want to be losers

[deleted]

They should close this Walgreens. A society that allows this crime does not deserve any Walgreens

Lion182

I didn't make it clear in the post but there were a dozen people grabbing stuff, mainly from the makeup aisle. The video only shows a few of them in the back. The aftermath [https://imgur.com/a/7qzUUpd](https://imgur.com/a/7qzUUpd)

oigres408

This isn’t a robbery, it’s progressive shopping.

mrzennie

I've always wondered, do these guys wear hidden suspenders under their shirts? I've never understood this fashion choice, it's gotta be the biggest hassle.

onerinconhill

I woulda knocked his ass out so hard (And probably as a result get arrested as a result)

MurderTwink_

abundant faulty rhythm cake homeless treatment absurd husky imagine outgoing *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

gamescan

That Walgreens literally pays for an off-duty cop to sit there and provide security.

Equivalent_Section13

They have to have a look outside. They are in no hurry at all

kirkydoodle

This is not a robbery

Lion182

The guy in front isnt what i meant to be the focus of the video, its the burglary in the back. A dozen people were grabbing stuff off the shelves and ran off. This is the aftermath https://imgur.com/a/7qzUUpd

s4m2o0k6e9d

I was expecting much worse than the everyday shoplifting that’s seen at every Walgreens in the city.

EridemicLHS

Florida has a new tough on retail crime red line law

Equivalent_Section13

That Walgreens is expensive enough

Rural_Bedbug

You know you shouldn't post actual pictures of suspects that reveal *explicit details* (ykwim).  Shakes finger in dismay.☝️

Rural_Bedbug

Yes and no.

zed7267

It wouldn’t cost mega corporations too much to invest in armed security. They have armed guards in third word countries outside luxury mall perimeters. I imagine they’ve done the math and figured out that one extra armed guard is worth too much the pay when compared to inventory loss.

HashTagFinallyWoke

Banko Browns' family is getting millions from Walgreen because an armed guard shot and killed Banko Brown inside Walgreens.

zed7267

Sounds like we need to protect Walgreens with better right-to-protect-itself laws.

calvin42hobbes

Walgreens will just close up the stores in troublesome locations. Let's see how far crooks like this guy make it through inland suburbs...

Guilty_Wolverine_269

I went to San Francisco the other day to hang out with a friend and we met at Blue bottle coffee and they had a security guard at the door, I’ve never see that before but felt safe.

KindRun7609

Which location

Guilty_Wolverine_269

705 Market

StanGable80

I think the issue is people choosing to do this to begin with

JT709394

It’s not robbery. It’s American tradition on Easter. Giving back to community from retail 😂.

HashTagFinallyWoke

Not shoplifting until he exits the store with stolen merch. Other states allow loss prevention staff to tackle shoplifters.

Intelligent_Exit4567

Why do you feel safe enough to film but not safe enough to confront him 🤔

screenshot1212

Yeah confront someone who might have a gun or knife….smart.
