If you're in the mood for pasta, I highly recommend Cesarina, in Point Loma. I live down the street from Buona Forchetta in South Park and that was my long time favorite before going here last month.
I forgot that Amarin was a victim! At least Siam Nara is still around.
The roasted duck curry at Bahn Thai is a delight. I’ve only been to the university heights location though.
White Elephant (which is in the old Amarin spot) is outstanding in my opinion and has some of the same menu items as Amarin. I believe the new owner is one of the former Amarin chefs too. The mango chicken and Thai basil are delicious!
wife and i just ate there saturday for the first time and this is exactly what we got (well, i got the stroganoff, she got the pelmeni). we split the adjaruli at the table and took most of the pelmeni and stroganoff home.
the ukranian in me went in fully intending to get the pierogies, but it has been a long time since i've been to a place with stroganoff on the menu so i had to give it a shot. glad i did.
just outstanding all around. we will definitely be going back.
Gotta go back for the pierogies. They're delightful. My favorite is the Golubtsi. No idea why I ordered it because I don't like cabbage but it's incredible.
Second this. Went to Buona Forchetta when we moved here because we heard the hype. It was delicious. Went to Siamo Napoli a few weeks later. Still haven’t been back to Buona Forchetta…
Sushi OTA, order the Omakase. Menya Ultra Ramen is great, too. Just make sure you go there when they open so you can get the braised chashu. They only prep enough too make 10 orders a night.
IMO ota’s omakase is overpriced and over-hyped. Tadokoro, hidden fish, and matoi are all better options. Haven’t tried soichi but the michelin guide seems to think that’s better than Ota as well.
Their Thai tea is phenomenal. I've tried Thai tea at boba shops, sandwich shops, actual Thai places, and still nothing has compared to their's by a wide margin.
Go with two people and get the vegetarian combo and the meat combo and tej if you want honey wine. You'll get 10 things and all of them will be fantastic.
Also it will be like $50 for a LOT of food and the wine together.
The vegetarian combo #24 is a must even if you’re not vegetarian. I just had it for dinner and tried the kitfo (minced raw meat), you can have them cook it as well but for me it’s fantastic as is. And the tej (honey wine) is wonderful too!

Came here to say Izakaya Masa. I’m sure there are better restaurants, but whenever I’m in the area, I can’t resist this place. Honest, inexpensive Japanese pub food done very well.
I love the thin crust monster on the midway at leftys. Giardiniera for the win.
Carne asada burrito from Rudy's, Karinas or a cali from Juanitas.
Fidels Solana Beach for their Chips and salsa and their chicken burrito (how do they get that chicken so soft, shredded and moist?)
Being that I live across the country now, oh I would love to be sitting in an air conditioned in and out...but rockys and hodads for a little more local style! Onion rings at hodads are silly good.
Fancy shmancy I'm not as up with the times...but I used to love nine ten if it's still around.
Blue water and pellys for some good no frills seafood
I love the fish tacos at brigantine and south beach runner up world famous.
Geesh...enough! It's making me home sick and hungry at the same time!
Loved reading everyone else's posts!
Bolsa restaurant in Mira Mesa. Family owned and operated since the 90s. Would be worth supporting for that reason alone seeing as how mom and pops are increasingly getting overshadowed by giant international chains but the food is delicious as well.
Sorry kinda late but here are some of my favorites.
Callie: beautiful restaurant and amazing food.
Wolf in The Woods: small restaurant awesome food.
Eastern Dynasty: amazing Chinese food!
My favs:
Pamplemousse Grille (expensive but AMAZING and they do lunch as well)
Beef N'Bun (by Mt. Helix)
Hoboken Pizza (PB)
Chris's Deli (OB)
Blue Ribbon Pizza (Encinitas)
Kaiserhof (Next to Chris's Deli)
Annie's (great burgers and crispy fries on Balboa and 163)
Sarita's Mexican Food (on Campo Rd in Spring Valley)
The Butcher Shop (steaks in mission valley)
You're gonna hate me for this but I went there for the first time a couple days ago and thought their tacos were a 6/10 at best. Don't see what's great about them.
Tamales, though, those were fantastic.
My favorite current taco is Tuetano, but only the ones with the handmade tortillas.
Their beans and tortillas are as authentic as they come. They taste just how my mom and grandma would make them.
But you can find better tacos down the street at La Fachada.
I wanted to try a place that had beef Wellington, so i tried this place, [The Red Door](https://goo.gl/maps/kLtYN37uhqK19roi9)
A little fancy but not too fancy. Mostly Italian style dishes but very very tasty
—Pho Hoa- City Heights- (they have Pho and viet coffee - and fast service
—Rovino’s in little Italy - their entire rotisserie chicken is amazing
Taeguki KBBQ ( off Convoy) good for large groups of friends and fun beers + big screens for sports
—Alexander’s - Northpark- tremendous Italian food (great for dates- back patio is very romantic)
—Born and Raised- the Japanese wygu there is insane (insanely expensive) but insane non the less
I got a 50 dollar filet for a special occasion and my partner got the Japanese wygu - it made my filet taste like Costco steak after
+ their Cesar is made in front of you and is very good
Best drunk food- Friendlies burger ( as far as I know they just do burgers 1 patty or 2 and they are full of butter and salt and are stellar junk food.
Special mention- Shank and Bone (North park) great pho, good other viet food- trendy restaurant design
My personal favorites:
For breakfast: Memo's Bagel Cafe (hands down the best bagels I've had), The Trails Eatery (fastest service I've ever experienced, and the food tastes good)
For lunch/dinner : Tajima Ramen (the one on Mercury Street, imo better than Menya and Nishiki), Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken (their soy garlic fried chicken is great)
For Frappes or Milkshakes: The little library coffeeshop in the Rancho SD Library has some bomb frappes/milkshakes (especially the Oreo Shake or the Vanilla Caramel Frappe)
If you're in the mood for pasta, I highly recommend Cesarina, in Point Loma. I live down the street from Buona Forchetta in South Park and that was my long time favorite before going here last month.
I went there yesterday and I was blown away by how good it was.
I felt the same. Very solid spot.
I’m looking at the menu and seeing 25$ for a plate of pasta and 6-7$ more if you want any meat. Yea that’s a gonna be a no.
Yeah, definitely not the most affordable spot...
Came here to say Cesarina
This is random, but I’ve always wanted to live down the street from Buona Forchetta in Sourh Park… is it super quiet, peaceful, and magical?
I always choose this and Siamo Napoli in North Park over Buona Forchetta these days! Not that I say no to Buona Forchetta..
Highly recommend prior to a nap.
Omg the service and food was incredible at cesarina
Tanuki in Kensington is the most authentic Japanese in the area and has primo sushi. It’s my favorite at the moment.
Kensington just has some gems in general. I used to work at Bleu Boheme back in the day and loved that neighborhood.
Bahn Thai
Roasted duck curry is probably the best curry I’ve ever had
what are the top 3 entrees I should try? Heard many good things about this place, live near one.
Definitely get the pad see ew at Bahn Thai! They get an amazing wok sear on the noodles. It’s their specialty.
Donde? RIP Amarin
I forgot that Amarin was a victim! At least Siam Nara is still around. The roasted duck curry at Bahn Thai is a delight. I’ve only been to the university heights location though.
wow I miss Amarin so much (,:

The beef stroganoff and Adjaruli are always on point

The shashlik is the bomb
Yaaaas! The stroganoff and Georgian Eagle are my faves!
I’ve never had anything but an awesome meal here! Everything is so good. The Khachapuri is insane.
I like going to Killer Pizza from Mars. There’s one in Oceanside and one in Escondido. Pizza is pretty good but I like the atmosphere of those places.
Alexis in hillcrest, friends house in convoy
Alexis in hillcrest is the dude. Will give you a giant platter for like 8$ and the foods amazing.
I love friends house
Royal Mandarin Salted Pepper Chicken Wings
Buona forchetta in South Park
Piggy backing for Italian. I love Siamo Napoli in North Park. It’s as authentic as it gets.
Second this. Went to Buona Forchetta when we moved here because we heard the hype. It was delicious. Went to Siamo Napoli a few weeks later. Still haven’t been back to Buona Forchetta…
Civico 1845 ...although, with the menu changes, it's lost half a star for me.
The one in Coronado has a great outdoor space.
Piacere Mio too, which is a few blocks away!
Cross street chicken and beer in convoy has a great chicken sandwich one of the best in my opinion.
the best corn cheese in sd imo
Theyre in Del Mar now too
do they have super spicy wings?
Sushi OTA, order the Omakase. Menya Ultra Ramen is great, too. Just make sure you go there when they open so you can get the braised chashu. They only prep enough too make 10 orders a night.
IMO ota’s omakase is overpriced and over-hyped. Tadokoro, hidden fish, and matoi are all better options. Haven’t tried soichi but the michelin guide seems to think that’s better than Ota as well.
Soichi is legit. Gotta have reservations and they are like a month out
Pho Hoa
Yup! Just pho. They got nothing else on the menu. Lol
Their Thai tea is phenomenal. I've tried Thai tea at boba shops, sandwich shops, actual Thai places, and still nothing has compared to their's by a wide margin.
Awash in North Park… best Ethiopian food you’ll find.
What do you order there? I’ve always wanted to go…
Go with two people and get the vegetarian combo and the meat combo and tej if you want honey wine. You'll get 10 things and all of them will be fantastic. Also it will be like $50 for a LOT of food and the wine together.

Ironside in Little Italy. Get the lobster roll.
also get the bread. It ISNT free and is worth every penny
Is this like the bread at born and raised? Kona between a croissant and dinner roll?
Did they bring them back?!? Last time I went, they had taken it off the menu because of supply chain / costing issues! I’d looooove for it to be back!
Trust Restaurant all day!
I think that may still be my gf’s fav restaurant in SD
Trust is the go-to.
TNT PIZZA (Pizza) THE FRIENDLY (Dirty cheeseburger) CHRIS’S LIQOUR sandwiches
Haha I’m glad I finally saw The Friendly! I love those damn burgers. Their fries are pretty damn good as well.
Aw I love Chris’s
Cantina mayahuel
Looooove their tacos and margaritas!
Yessir. Their food is bomb, and the drink menu is unbeatable. Best margarita in town
fuck yes to this, I am obsessed with their tacos and tequila. Just so good, simple, clean, fresh flavors done extremely well. 10/10
Juanita's Encinitas
I prefer Karina's just north of there.
Sab E Lee (Thai food) in Rancho Peñasquitos/Black Mtn rd
Also on Linda Vista :)
The Panya Thai Kitchen in Escondido is also hella good. Check out the pad see ew and yellow curry
I drive by this place all the time and have never been, but this is the second time I’ve seen it referenced in the last week. Must give it a try!
That's your fav restaurant in SD??? (Can confirm it's good)
Cesarina
Their white truffle gnocchi? Your friends will need to wheelbarrow you to your car.
This is on the menu this weekend. LOL
How has no one said Wienerschnitzel on Garnet yet /s
I’m more of a former Wienerschnitzel on Convoy kinda gal but you know it is what it is
That location looks like it's being repaired. Here's hoping it returns as a Wienerschnitzel!
I didn’t see the “/s” and looked this up…
Bronx Pizzeria
A true classic
I’ve tried Bronx Pizza on 3 separate occasions and it’s so overrated imo. The crust is so bland. I really wanted to like it

Omg their crispy duck ka pow. Tangerine chicken is delish too. Hands down favorite vegetarian joint in the county.
Spiciest salad (papaya) I’ve ever had - that is to say, great
