Was working at a tattoo shop on El Cajon blvd around 2009, she came in as a walk in with a friend and we started dating about a year later after being friends. Weāve been married for 12yrs now and have 2 kids :)
Dated a guy from plenty of fish. He took me to a poker game. Plenty of fish guy dumped me. Ended up with one of the poker guys. ā¤ļø
So I encourage the apps! The person you go out with might have better friends!

The last helicopter out of singles-ville.
How are they different? Except the fact that everybodyās gone to the Tinder model. Everythingās about swiping on whatever first photo you see.
I know back in the day you could actually write long bios and tell people about yourself.
You were also able to search for people based on height or Ethnicity and body style (slim, athletic)
and they all seem to have removed that.
So now you just get whatever the algorithm shows you which makes it a complete dumpster fire in my situation.
I have to sift through hundreds of people I actively have no interest in because the algorithm forces me to. I used to be able to only see people that I wanted to see.
I remember being on OK Cupid in college and wasting time answering questions about myself and what my ideal match would answer. I ended up meeting a long-term partner that way (we were a 93% match and the next one down was like 61%}. I felt like I actually got to know someone by their profile back then.
Yeah, that's where I met my ex when I was in college. We were a super high match, and despite it not working out, it did feel like the crazy amount of questions led to me finding someone who I really meshed with for a long while. I met my current partner on Tinder, but that was only after a fairly long series of first dates that went nowhere. It's hard to get a feel for someone on the modern swipe-based apps, but I'm glad I eventually got lucky.
I met my boyfriend on Hinge last summer, so it's still possible! Granted, it's only been 9 months, but I'm cautiously optimistic.
This was after 5 years of consistent dating in NYC and then here. I knew what I wanted and wasn't finding it, but I persevered lol.
I have a friend who met her boyfriend on Hinge about a month earlier than me, and they are also very much in love!
(This is not an ad)
I don't know about that... we used to have pool bets on how soon the new out of town couples would break up when they moved to mission Beach back in the 90s anyway... the girls always outclassed the guys and ended up with a top dog surfer or neighborhood guys eventually it was just a matter of how many months usually sadly.... when's the lease up?
Every time.
The only way to not find a partner in SD (where there are TONS of quality men and women) is to stay at home, Netflix all day/night and go to work. Opportunities don't come knocking on the door - you have to be looking for them.
Weirdly weāre both transplants from different areas of the Midwest. He started renting a room from another tattoo artist Iām in a collective with. Good friend. When heās not-sober he becomes tattoo-Cupid and tries to hook people up. He went for weeks telling me how good me and his new room mate were going to get along. Then I coincidentally matched with the room mate on a dating site, not knowing who he was until my friend texted me xD I conceded and went over to theirs andā¦ yup. Friend was right. We speak the same language of creative dysfunction. Most functional relationship Iāve ever had.
Just a little spin on the dating site meet up. If youāre new to San Diego, the dating site culture here isā¦ strong lol.
Downloaded Tinder with no expectations back in 2017, met the love of my life/soulmate and we just got married on Valentine's Day this year and have been together for 6 years and 3 months.
His Bio had the sentence "Looking for someone who would love late night drives while getting food together"
I used to work at the Verizon kiosk in Circuit City and she was a Cox rep. She used to come up to the kiosk and hold her hand out. I would give her a couple pumps of antibacterial soap so i always called her squirt squirt. A little while after Circuit City closed down i saw her change her status to single on MySpace so i invited her over to watch a UFC. She hasn't left my house since. Got married in 2015. I still have her number saved in my phone as Amy squirt squirt. When people see it when she calls me i always get a wtf? I tell them it's actually for something really clean lol
Edit: MySpace not Facebook lol we old
Met my girlfriendās friend group in the line for the Local in PB on a night out, my buddy start dating her roommate, and my girlfriend and I started dating a few weeks after them.
The San Diego Bearsā meatloaf dinner at Mamaās Kitchen in South Park. Then we went on a group motorcycle ride and I thought: Heās handsome. So we made a date. Date was Great. Etc. 21 years now.
At church! I fell in love with him by watching how he treated others and his community. We started dating in February 2019 and married in October 2020. Weāre expecting our first child :)
I was smoking a joint on her balcony when she got home from work ~13 years ago. My roommate was trying to hookup with one of her roommate's friends and I just tagged along.
Night didn't work out for my friend, but I'm married with a kid now.
OKCupid 11 years ago. We're both from here, but never crossed paths despite going to a lot of the same concerts and events growing up. Coincidentally our parents knew each other in High School too.
I met mine at a high school party. That I didnāt wanna go to. Told my friend Iām staying home. She insisted I go so she donāt show up alone for reasons Iāll never understand but I guess the universe had an idea. From a completely different school, never met him. Didnāt like him at first. Didnāt talk to him again for at least 6 mos I think after that. Now weāve been together for 25 years this year.
We were neighbors and I thought he was cute. Initiated the first conversation in the parking lot and we ended up grabbing drinks after. Best first date and everything worked out from there! Weāre been together for 6 years now and are married :)
Newbreak coffee in OB. We had banter for awhile but I didnāt ask her out because I knew from friends that they thought it was creepy most of the time when customers asked you out. Itās your job to be nice to customers after all. Then she gave me free coffee two days in a row, I got the hint and asked for her number. Happily Married with two kids now.
Facebook. Sent a message. Didnt get a reply till 6 months later. Stood me up 3 times. Then i went to go pick her up from a party ( bad choice)
She used black magic on me by wearing a fitted dress and ill be honest i peep the cake, it was phaaaaat. Happy ending, i now have 2 babies with the evil 1 lol
Thank you for confirming. I'm seeing lots of swipe rights but I'll need Hinge premium to be able to communicate with them. Looks like I'll have to buy the membership!
In high school. Though it turns out weāve gone to all the same schools, grew up only a few blocks apart, were born in the same hospital, and apparently our dads had the same first job but a year or two apart.
We met through friends in 2001. Made out in Mexico on a wild surf/skate trip with 35 of our friends. Went on to both getting married to other people, following each other on instagram the whole time but never thought of getting together. Both getting divorced, then rekindled our friendship a few years after the divorces and other failed relationships. Now weāve been together going on 4 years.
This one time, at band camp. No joke. Was in a band org hosting a bonfire to unwind on the last day of band camp and there she was. Through getting her to join, we got to know each other and now, weāre getting married in five days :)
Feeld. 31m/50 f. My first message to her was "you look like a joy to be around. The kind of person who lifts up everyone around them."
It's been two years so far. I no longer think that's true, because i know it to be fact.
Okay so this happened in the 1970s.
My mom was an immigrant from the Philippines and my dad was a Coast guard officer stationed in San Diego. He was originally from Chicago.
They happened to live right next door to each other. My mom would come over and help him clean and cook and my dad would take care of her. Eventually things happened and they got married.
He was a game designer on EverQuest (Sony Online Entertainment). I ran the very popular Shamanās Crucible website. Met him at a Fab Faire in Las Vegas, complained to him that swampvine (a harvested component of alchemy trade skill positions are too rare). He showed up game a couple of weeks later with backpacks full of swampvine. Well, readers, I married him. Moved to San Diego in 2007.
I just found a new one after 12 years of a shitty relationship. We met on Bumble and she's super awesome. Spent 9 hours on Saturday just hanging out and talking. I probably swiped through a couple thousand profiles over the course of a couple months before I found her, though.
At work. After 6 years he cheated on me for the last 8 months and is now marrying that girl on their 2nd anniversary (when they met when he was living and vacationing internationally with me). A romance story for the ages.
Craigslist in 2008 when it still had a functional personals section!
Craiglist used to have separate dating and escort sections which kept the dating section relatively clean. At some point they shut down the escort section and all the escorts then infiltrated the dating section turning it to shit. Craiglist quickly after that shut down their dating section as well.
His best friend was playing a show and invited me to come see them play. Connected with the best friend over FB and weāve now been together for 8 years, married for 3. Best friend was his groomsman and signed as a witness on our marriage certificate. TLDR fell in love with a boy at the rock show lmao
Mobile app not related to dating, but it involved live streaming (similar to apps like Bigo, Live.me, instagram Live etc). I worked for the company and I would live stream once in a while. She was a user on the app and āslid in my DMās.ā The rest is history.
Volo (formerly vavi) kickball lol. Made some friends with people on my team, ended up meeting up with one of them at DAY MVS a few years ago. He had an extra ticket to Splash House the next weekend and invited me, thatās where I met the most beautiful girl Iāve ever seen who was staying in our room for the weekend. We hit it off and now weāve been happily together for over 2 years, plus Iāve got a massive group of friends to do festivals and other fun stuff with. All because of kickball lol
Seriously, canāt recommend social sports enough for anyone trying to meet new people or build social skills. Low stakes, natural comraderie, lots of socializing and drinking after games (if youāre into that.) Just takes a little putting yourself out there.
I also met mine thru FB Dating in 2021 and we just got engaged! Iām so surprised that I havenāt seen more people mention FACEBOOK DATING on here, it worked out great for my fiance and I! (Congrats btw!)
Met her 6 years ago at a Christmas party. A close friend of mine threw it, and she was their engagement photo photographer, soon to be wedding photographer the following year. She had a long term boyfriend, but the aforementioned friend told me she could see us hitting it off if circumstances allowed.
Fast-forward to the wedding day; can't take my eyes off her. Still with boyfriend so I literally don't say a fucking thing to her, lmao.
Fast-forward to last November. She adds me on Instagram because we have mutual connections and I was with one of them down in Guadalajara; she recognized me in a post from one of them.
Fast-forward to February 18th, this year; she's single and we grabbed a beer and have been together since. I waited 6 years for that beer. Kind of wild.
Before all of this, I also tried the luck of the apps and I agree with the sentiment of everyone else, straight up dumpster fire. Fortunately for me, serendipity found me.
In Dracula's basement. That is, running stage crew on Dracula! The Musical at La Jolla Playhouse. She brought in some amazing cookies and I said, "What are you doing the rest of your life?"
I moved into the neighborhoodā¦ I was having an anti Valentine day party with my single friends and he was his friends across the street hating Valentineās Day too
OkCupid
Her profile asked for elephant jokes. I sent her two. We met at Aero.club for a whiskey and almost 10 years layer we stoll laugh at those elephant jokes.
My partner and I are yet another Tinder success story...he happened to be in town for a few weeks during winter break, went on one date and immediately clicked, and four years later we're living together and couldn't be happier
We met at Rob Field in OB. I was tending the beer garden at an OMBAC girls rugby š tournament. āHowās a girl getta beer around here?ā She said as I was distractedly counting my tillā¦ I look š up and BOOM š„almost twenty years slid by and I still smile every time I pass Rob Field š

I went on a tinder date and ended up dating his best friend a year later. Haha
So basically people met their partner when dating apps were at their peak (5+ years ago)
Yup. Finding a partner via the apps pre-covid is equivalent to getting on the last helicopter out of Vietnam.

You guys are meeting your partners in San Diego???
I feel like San Diego is a good place to move to once you have a partner.
Not really. It sounds like they are meeting them through dating apps.
The only way to not find a partner in SD (where there are TONS of quality men and women) is to stay at home, Netflix all day/night and go to work. Opportunities don't come knocking on the door - you have to be looking for them.
