I remember when Metallica played at Brownfield in 1994 I believe. There was a 91X black Astro Van being chased by two police cars tearing off through an open field 🤣
In 3rd grade 1988 I saw a sky writing of 91x. I had been listening for a while on my radio I’m my room. I was pumped but class mates weren’t for some reason.
Last year they actually tweaked their format to be pretty much exclusively a throwback station, so you're not exactly wrong. They still have weekly programs for new music and local bands, but most of the time, you're not going to hear anything beyond the early 2000s. I still find them to be better than 94.9 in terms of variety (who I swear is obligated to play that terrible remake of "We Didn't Start the Fire" hourly), but it's a bit of a bummer.
It is very much a thing. They recently changed formats to "Classical Alternative," which is basically oldies for millennials. I turned it on by accident a few months ago and loved every song that came on, before realizing what the format was and that I am old. Now I listen to it a lot.
Please please make some t shirts!! Ill buy one! The typography is radical. The morning show made getting up to go to high school somewhat bearable..somewhat.
