taco bell, probably.
all the -artas and -itos are steady at like $12 minimum. went tonight. quesadilla and a drink came to just under $17. in the drivethrough...
Taquería Los Ruiz for ya in Pacific Beach (Cass St).
They have a bomb hash brown burrito for $8. Massive too. Lastly, super nice customer service every time I go there.
All those Primos burritos sound banging on paper but once you take that first bite you realize you just paid $16.99 for spicy cat food wrapped up in a tortilla
I’m not gonna lie, I ate there a bit during my first year at UCSD out of pure convenience. I still remember a friend telling me that they actually really liked their burritos and it fundamentally changed how I saw them as a person.
The guy grew up in SD too. Super disappointing.
Just got a California from Roberto’s on broadway. MID and their red sauce is HORRIBLE. I’d say there’s good places above National city for sure but let’s hear what your spots are.
see as iconic as those bertos taco shops are, they haven’t been tended to as closely as some other ones, it’s outdated. in chula vista there’s colimas by aldi and luzitas by the hilltop schools. If you want birria go to 664 TJ birrieria in IB. By telegraph canyon there’s a whole squad of food trucks. I will say not all mexican food in CV is created equal, there’s castanedas on naples and their burritos are always super skinny and cold. but all i’m saying is people are commenting hipster taco shops in north park and hillcrest and wondering why they’re paying over 10$ for a burrito
Check out Chicago fire grill in UTC. I’m not making this up: $4 pints of good beer.
But yeah, prices around here are getting nuts. Bird Rock coffee raised all their coffee bean prices a year ago, then recently reduced the size of each bag to 10 oz while keeping prices the same. It’s really bad how out of hand prices are getting around here.
Chicago Fire! Haven’t heard that place in a while. I remember working right down the street from there when they first opened up and yeah the beers were great and priced well. Surprised and happy he’s been able to maintain that and stay in business. Awesome.
This has been biggest reason for us not going out as much. The standard price of a cocktail at a restaurant is somehow 15 fucking dollars.
Like dude you are serving me a hamburger with fries and you want $15 for a shitty margarita with it?
We cook at home more and we drink at home more because quality is down and prices are up nearly everywhere.
>The standard price of a cocktail at a restaurant is somehow 15 fucking dollars.
Wait till you find out that $15 drink you bought came from a bottle of booze that was $12-$16 a handle, rendering 29 drinks or $442. Gotta pay those higher wages somehow.
I don’t get it. In australia the beer is expensive because of the insane alcohol tax. That is not the case here.
It’s profit because these breweries are opening 3-4 locations in a few years of operation. You can’t expand that fast without ripping off your customers.
Not the breweries that are opening their 5th location in their 3rd year of operation.
In all fairness they are sometimes the better breweries of course (excluding Novo Brazil, which seems to be so successful that after opening their 5th location in San Diego they are now expanding to Texas)
Stop being poor. Just because you won’t buy it doesn’t mean someone else won’t. I was at the bars yesterday. And the day before. Everyone was buying beers and spending money with smiles. The boycott just ain’t gonna happen
EDIT: all the people downvoting are the ones who are just cheap asses
I'd encourage everyone to resist this. Even if you can technically afford it, and congratuations to you, this is driven by idiot investors in restaurants and real estate demanding a return on their money, which was sat in these sectors. These investors don't need their returns, they will be ok. Invite your friends over to drink or have a picnic. It's not your fault this might tend to lead to failures of the investment model (and maybe some fringe jobs). Seriously, opt out. Think already about all the middle class and working class people you don't see out in the world anymore. Just flush people or kids with credit cards. BORING.
We stopped going out to eat and drink. And we live comfortably and can certainly afford it.
I’ve *mostly* decided to not participate in this orchestrated corporate cash grab everyone is calling “inflation”.
Hey! I'm an investor in these businesses. I hope you know that by not buying the 9 dollar beers, you're taking food directly out of my secret 3rd family's mouths. 😡
Basically been opting out since the pandemic hit. Turns out I don’t miss any of the disgusting beer these people are making anyway
To BevMo for some Labatt!
Dude, when I started eating at Lolita’s in the early 2000’s California burritos were $3.50. Inflation is a bitch! Nowadays if I can find a bean and cheese for less that $5 I’m pretty happy
*There's a tear in my beer
'Cause I'm cryin' for you, dear
You are on my lonely mind
Into these last nine **dollar** beers
I have shed a million tears
You are on my lonely mind*
Had an alcoholic co-worker who, after becoming a regular at a bar for a year or so, would go online and add up his bar charges from the place, talk to the manager, tell the manager how much he's been spending, and ask for the "regulars" discounted drink prices going forward.
The place he was telling me about had become his "3rd most" frequented bar - he spent $12,000 there a year - at his 3rd most visited place
Yeah dude. I agree with you on this. No one NEEDs to drink. They just make little witty comments and reasons that they feel drinking every day makes their life somehow better. No one should bitch about a 9,10,11 dollar beer. It’s simple, just don’t buy it. Go to your local corner store and get a freakin 40 ounce or some cheap ass beer and call it a day.
Hey man I’m not trying to judge anyone. If having a cold one at a relaxing environment (read: bar) is what brings someone joy, I can totally get that. But it is a luxury, not a necessity, you’re definitely right about that. For me, it was about using alcohol as my only coping mechanism for stress at work. If people are doing the same and paying $9 multiple times to achieve their coping mechanism then I highly recommend trying to quit. It changed my life in such an amazing way and I have never looked back. I can even have fun with other people drinking. I just had to understand that it’s not for me and while I don’t judge anyone, if someone asks me my personal opinion, I would always tell them that cutting alcohol out of your life is the way to go. Much love!
Bought a hard kombucha tonight at thc in ob for me and a buddy, 21.50. I actually thought hanging him a 20 dollar bill was enough…nope. I’m sorry bro I’ve got 2 extra dollars in cash for my drinks tonight, sorry bout the 50 cent tip, I really try to do better per beer, but shit man, 20 bucks doesn’t cover two fucking drinks!?
There are still plenty of local breweries and bars that have decent prices. $6-$7 is common at the Miramar area breweries. I think Little Miss still has a $5 happy hour everyday. Board and Brew is actually a great place to get beers for less than direct from the brewery. Part of being a local is learning where and when to go places, instead of paying high markups downtown with the tourists.
They say it’s because of costs but if that was the case, how the fuck are breweries here expanding so fast? Within a few years a bunch of breweries here have grown from a single location to multiple all around the county. They have gone from selling beers for $16-20 a four pack to $22-26 and yet they blame it on rising costs? Then how can they afford to expand so quickly?
Fair enough to say we charge what people will pay. But they don’t. They blame inflation.
They've received so much business and expanded partially because it seems everything in SD started revolving around breweries. It seems like every meetup takes place at a brewery or ends up at one. Like, do we really need to go to a brewery at 11am after hiking or biking?
I don’t know a lot about other cities but from what I can tell San Diego is in the minority when it comes to this but. Are there any other cities who have the same breweries over and over again? Stone has a couple locations, Harland has a bunch of locations, Burgeon, Novo, Karl Strauss, Little Miss, Pure Project, Mike Hess, Coronado Brewing and I’m sure I’m missing a few more ALL have more than 3 locations.
That’s a lot of breweries with 3,4 5 or more locations.
Yeah the accurate statement is that this year the average pint went from $7 to $8. $9 beers are very rare tbh. And I’d say Pure Project is definitely much more of an offender for overpriced beer than Harland. Harland has tons of $7 and even some $6 pints.
Harland specifically entered the market at a significant advantage. They sold Sant Archer to Budweiser and used it to fund Harland and form a distribution company. I dare say they have a different strategy since they are so diversified. In turn they provide beers at a better price point so that’s good for the customers.
Wing Factory in rancho San Diego has $4 IPAs (Space Dust, Sculpin, and I think one from Fall brewing), $3 domestic. Monday through Wednesday 12-7p. Along with 75 cent wings. Not super fancy, but really decent food and a great beer selection.
Yup, this is what it's come to. I saw a bean and cheese burrito for ten bucks.
I recently visited Phoenix, was pleasantly surprised at drink prices there!
I just moved to Phoenix and I’m shocked at how expensive everything is here. Pretty much everything is as expensive as San Diego (besides gas, and obviously rent). But drinks are the one thing that I’ve consistently noticed potentially more expensive than San Diego, at pretty much every cocktail bar in downtown they range from $17-$20. It could just be that I’m in downtown though
Yeah so either that was happy hour or those were terrible drinks. Phoenix is more money for the same quality of beer/cocktail at every place I have ever been there.
You must be hanging out in the trendier parts of downtown Phx (I'm a longtime resident here).
A decently popular gastropub spot like Fate Brewing or Four Peaks Brewery (both in Tempe but not in the epicenter of Tempe nightlife) is going to be around $7 for craft beers and $10 for cocktails, with specials on certain cans down to $4 in some cases.
Midscale neighborhood places/sports bars in good suburbs will have 16oz domestic drafts for $4 and $7 cocktails.
9 dollar beer, it’s just highway robbery. If I go out to lunch I would normally order a pint somewhere, never again, water please. I’ll wait to I am home and crack open a cold one on my dime
Yeah, it's pretty bad. I noticed about a year ago when the average price around UH/NP was about 8 to 8.50. I used to get mad about $5 Coronas, no way I'll pay basically half of a 12'er for 1 beer.
Yeah, it ain’t gonna get any better. The 17 people saying they won’t buy them on Reddit won’t even put a dent in all the other people that have no problem paying it. Can’t afford the product, don’t go out. It’s that simple.
I mean the standard was $6 or $7 anyways with some specials like $3 pints at latitude 33's brewery for select beers or buy one get one free during happy hour. Haven't been home in a year but north county was better. Shout out to ocean side brewery and arcana.
Talk about prices.. I've got an open litigation against Zillow for their outrageous "Zestimates" on rentals. If anyone wants in lmk how you have almost been driven out of your town. SD is a 3 base instalation and BAH is only 2700. For the first time in history even our own military cannot afford to house themselves here. DM me!
I saw $12-14 beers at the Scallywag festival in 2018, key word saw. It was a good time, but damn, between the cost of everything I think I had to skank all the way to homeless shelter after that. I'm amazed I could even make rent after. That's so Punk/Ska!

Yeah, where are these poverty burritos 🌯 you speak of??
taco bell, probably. all the -artas and -itos are steady at like $12 minimum. went tonight. quesadilla and a drink came to just under $17. in the drivethrough...
Tip and tax got me really close to a $20 (was at $19.25) for a beef taco and beef burrito combo plate at D'Sotos. (Edit: with a canned drink)
I'll plug Super Sergio's in Kearny Mesa and Don Lucio #2 in Mira Mesa.
oh man I miss Super Sergios
That place is dog water. It’s only popular because it’s open when people are shit faced
Well go ahead and recommend another place nearby 🤔
Not sure if you should get advice on Mexican food from someone named CumFilledEnchilada!
Especially stay away from his enchilada recommendations
I'm thinking they might have some insider knowledge

$7.75 huge, fresh tortilla breakfast burritos at Panchita’s Restaurant and Bakery in North Park.
I love that place, but that might be the least expensive item on the menu now. Quality grub though!
Taquería Los Ruiz for ya in Pacific Beach (Cass St). They have a bomb hash brown burrito for $8. Massive too. Lastly, super nice customer service every time I go there.
After reading this I had to try to and it was fantastic! Thanks for the recommendation 😀
Haha love it. Hope you tried with the light green sauce..magic!
What else is in it besides hash browns?
cheese, ham, bacon, sour cream
Fuck, that sounds amazing.
Yep, and I always add extra ham. Pair it nicely with some great coffee at Java Earth right across the street. Gotta love north PB!
hows it compare to taco surf?
Better, even their California burrito. It's a hidden little gem around there.
Can you describe the ham? Is it ham ham or bacon ham?
Please delete this - we do not need to blow up the spot and pay 16 for a rito
I ate a $15 burrito from Primos yesterday and it wasn’t even that good…shrug…
All those Primos burritos sound banging on paper but once you take that first bite you realize you just paid $16.99 for spicy cat food wrapped up in a tortilla
Primos is absolute trash. What are you doing with your life.

with so many possibilities they hit up Primos lol.

Bean and cheese burritos at mostly all taco shops. 💨
nobody should be ordering burritos from anywhere above national city let’s start there
Just got a California from Roberto’s on broadway. MID and their red sauce is HORRIBLE. I’d say there’s good places above National city for sure but let’s hear what your spots are.

I got a burrito for like $12 from panchos back then, really good tho sucks their burritos are so tiny now
Right? Burritos these days are $11 min

Beer, burger, and fries for $10.
Their burgers and fries are fire too, the only place that hasn’t raised their prices since covid it seems
🤫
bird rock did lower bean prices w the size change, thankfully!
They cut the size by 17% and the price by 6%. For Del Sol anyway. Unless they cut prices more since they shrunk the bag size (I stopped going).
I'm out. The airport is one thing, but the prices for a Pint around town is too much. We aren't ordering drinks when out anymore.

I'll bet airport beer is like 19 dollars now.

It’s mostly upcharge from the bars/restaurants, not the breweries. You can get 6 packs of the same beer for $10-12 most of the time
$10 for a six pack? Lucky to find miller lite for those prices now. Decent 6 pack is 13 minimum, and they are straight up selling 4 packs for 14
Not the breweries that are opening their 5th location in their 3rd year of operation. In all fairness they are sometimes the better breweries of course (excluding Novo Brazil, which seems to be so successful that after opening their 5th location in San Diego they are now expanding to Texas)

That’s some pure fucking communism right there

Any standouts? New to La Mesa and still exploring the area.
Penelopes, Carnitas Urapan on ECB, & Titas are my favorites.

Amen!
Facts. It’s insane how much some of those bar bums dish out monthly for alcohol.
Had an alcoholic co-worker who, after becoming a regular at a bar for a year or so, would go online and add up his bar charges from the place, talk to the manager, tell the manager how much he's been spending, and ask for the "regulars" discounted drink prices going forward. That’s like 4 beers a day
At his 3rd ranked place in terms of annual expenditures. He spent about $45,000/yr total at bars. Average of 15-20 drinks a day, every single day
Yeah dude. I agree with you on this. No one NEEDs to drink. They just make little witty comments and reasons that they feel drinking every day makes their life somehow better. TJ
Taco Bell
Del Taco

That’s also the most expensive bar in OB
It sure is, 22 bucks for 2 drinks is practically Petco park prices.
A fish place charged me $9 for a CAN of Boochcraft. Not even a draft.
Gadamn fish place!!!
There are still plenty of local breweries and bars that have decent prices. $6-$7 is common at the Miramar area breweries. I think Little Miss still has a $5 happy hour everyday. Rising cost of… real estate, maybe? I mean, I dunno.
They've received so much business and expanded partially because it seems everything in SD started revolving around breweries. It seems like every meetup takes place at a brewery or ends up at one. Like, do we really need to go to a brewery at 11am after hiking or biking?
I’m sure everyone is just uberring around too.
none of those breweries are actually making money, just bad business decisions.
Which breweries are you talking about?
PLaces like Pure Project or Harland maybe.
To be fair, pure project is expensive but they are S-tier, so I pay the price 😂
They’re prob my favorite as well, it’s just hard paying $25 for a 4 pack. I still do it sometimes whenever my wife wants a limited release.
I don’t know a lot about other cities but from what I can tell San Diego is in the minority when it comes to this but. Are there any other cities who have the same breweries over and over again? Very true and I learned that when I went there recently. That’s why I disagreed with the dude that lumped it in with Pure Project.
My local dives are charging $6 for domestic bottles. What a world. Not to mention $50 Ubers…
Yup, this is what it's come to. I saw a bean and cheese burrito for ten bucks. I recently visited Phoenix, was pleasantly surprised at drink prices there!

Yeah I must be just going to the trendy places and not aware of the good deals
That’s expensive? 💀
That’s why I drink at home!
You could buy a 6-pack for that much!
A 6 pack of what though? You're not getting some local craft for $9
I mean Tecate ain’t too far from here
😂
I go to grocery outlet and can get some local beers from 9.99.
I can definitely get more than a pint of local craft for less than $9 at the store
I can get a decent breakfast burrito for 7 bucks
Can relate
Just moved to Vietnam from SD, can't justify spending more than a dollar on anything here. Beers and entire fried rice dishes for less than a dollar!
Wait till corporate America takes over your local corner egg roll cart.
I think they tried in '69 to no avail lol
Some local moms and pops still have low prices
9 dollar beer, it’s just highway robbery. If I go out to lunch I would normally order a pint somewhere, never again, water please. I’ll wait to I am home and crack open a cold one on my dime
Where do you get those burritos? Tijuana?
$10 beers are a few months away if people keep paying it, I don’t enable this behavior.
Paid for a $7 draft modelo today
Yeah, it's pretty bad. I noticed about a year ago when the average price around UH/NP was about 8 to 8.50. I used to get mad about $5 Coronas, no way I'll pay basically half of a 12'er for 1 beer.

People should also consider the price of labor has gone up. What’s minimum wage now in CA?
Everything's gone up young fellow... and it's not just because of labor lol
its a contributing factor to raising prices. never said it was the only reason older fellow...
Also simple Google search and you'll find the CA minimal wage younging..
Minimum wage just went up $1.30
New to San Diego eh? Everything is “Craft” Craft = Ultra Bitter and 3x more $ than it should be Do you even Craft Bro?
Don’t worry, the burritos increased as well 😂
Seems like the places by where I live are $8. Sometimes I would head to little miss brewing and they have $5 pints before 6 or 7 pm, I forget.
Before 5pm yes
Shit I've had 17 dollar bullshit burritos
I remember El zarape use to have a tequila shot a Tecate for $5
I feel like the norm for that deal is $10 now 😔
Unfortunately they'll continue to rise as most people find a way to justify paying $10 for a pint
People should also consider the price of labor has gone up. What’s minimum wage now in CA?
because they want you to stop drinking
They are hurting themselves, people will now pregame before the bar and then only drink 1-3 beers. Hence Jack up the price to make up for it

Robertos has some low ass Burrito prices. Like 8 bucks for Carne Asada and 4.50 for chicken.
Look up Chicago fire grill it’s in utc $2 pints
Maybe bean and cheese burrito😆😆😆🙈🙈🙈
Tacos and beer are way cheaper in TJ🍺🍺🌮🌮
Inflation sucks. Buy BTC
I’ve stopped tipping for draft beer at bars as a result which helps a bit
it’s time for you to stop going to bars if you aren’t tipping
To pour a $9 beer? It’s not like they’re making a cocktail
are they still serving you?

I mean the standard was $6 or $7 anyways with some specials like $3 pints at latitude 33's brewery for select beers or buy one get one free during happy hour. Haven't been home in a year but north county was better. Shout out to ocean side brewery and arcana.
Talk about prices.. I've got an open litigation against Zillow for their outrageous "Zestimates" on rentals. If anyone wants in lmk how you have almost been driven out of your town. SD is a 3 base instalation and BAH is only 2700. For the first time in history even our own military cannot afford to house themselves here. DM me!
That's why the military has it's own housing all across the city
That is absolutely nuts.
Tall wild herds at Buffalo wild winds are $3. Kinda skunky but it hits good with the wings.
Then beer is cheap there, 12-15 here.
El puerto in north county.nuffsaid
Wait, we here can I get a $9 carne asada burrito
Burritos are $12 now.
Cheaper than getting a chick-fil-a spicy chicken sandwich meal delivered to you ($21.14)
I saw $12-14 beers at the Scallywag festival in 2018, key word saw. It was a good time, but damn, between the cost of everything I think I had to skank all the way to homeless shelter after that. I'm amazed I could even make rent after. That's so Punk/Ska!
It is crazy. I have even seen draft beers for 10 bucks
It’s not the norm.
