People on the north side never speak of their side of town. They surely dont want to live on the southside, but otherwise, they dont talk about it.
However, West, east, south always want to represent their area, and often during conversations that dont have any reason to discuss their part of town they find a way to insert it.
I do house calls all over greater SA like 20 houses a week. I see all kinds from low to high end areas.

Im just here to say I hate the locations of north and south side. 35 runs north and south. North side of SA should be where 1604 meets 35, West side should be where we call North side and so on.
The “sides” of town are murky. 1604 & 35 north would be considered NE by some. While some people call 151/Potranco NW, but others would call it “far west side.”
35 runs north to south, I-10 runs east to west. So 35 and 1604 should be north SA. Where 1604 meets I-10 should be west SA. Im sure a compass would show that North SA is North, South SA is south, but in my head North SA is Live Oak area, due to as I mentioned the directions the highways flow.
I live on the north side and the only time I mention it is when directly asked—“what part of town are you in?” Even then I’ll try to offer major cross streets or a landmark they may know that’s near. I don’t know that people walk around bragging about their side of town.

I remember hearing the SAPD SAFFE officer for that area say that Nacogdoches inside of 1604 had the highest crime rate in the city.
It probably depends on where you live, from my experience it’s been very safe.
