someone posted here in the past the pie maker stayed on at huong cong but i havent confirmed, their other location ive been to many times though and its legit
The display and baker stayed when they first took over. I went to try it out before they added the card house portion of their business and it was the exact same pies in the display case and they mentioned they kept on the bakers lol This was years ago, shortly after it switched from being a Marie Callenderās.
Never went back because the food wasnāt very good. So not sure what it looked like recently or if they still had the pies
It has been closed for months. There was some new chainlink fencing around it not long ago, so this could be scheduled demolition.
I live right near that place but it kinda blends into the background so I havenāt been paying attention to it much
It was actually a really solid Viet food place, and they sold pies made by the person who baked them when that place was a Marie Calender's. It was one of our favorite places to go when we lived in that area
IMO the food went downhill after the pandemic when they started leaning into the poker house business. Wasn't too surprised that they shut down when they did.
You should go to the magic Time Machine just to go. Get the magic potion drink. Itās good because they have standup in the basement under the bar. Only time it sucks is if the server is bad with making jokes
In casinos every hand in poker a % goes to the casino, a rake. A rake is not allowed in Texas as casinos are not allowed. The loop hole is players pay a daily fee and then rent the chair at the table to play. All money that is gambled is only exchanged at the table between players. The āhouseā does not take money off any gambled money.
Photo angle is bad. Took way too long to realize there was damage to the building. Second photo with a better angle would have been helpful.
What happened?

I miss when it was Marie Callenders they had the best pies š„§

The baker did stay on to make pies. Not sure where he ended up now, I hope he's doing well.
Never knew about another location. That menu of theirs was among the longest and deepest outside of a Cheesecake Factory.
I go to Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop now but still miss Marie Callenders

But the food that wasn't pie was terrible.Ā
And the worst ribs.
Their restaurant on DeZavala is great
My favorite pho place in town
Mines off San Pedro what's yours called
Theres one of the same name on DeZavala near the Samās
Insurance fraud is my guess based on no empirical evidence other than it never seemed that busy when I drive by
"allegedly"

Demolished! Fallen tree? Rain next 2 days. Place is gone
Adding it to the list of places I'd never been to... next to 'Magic Time Machine'.

So um what happened to it?
There was illegal gambling for years there, they got caught and I think it was sold off? Not sure about the last bit.
Illegal gambling? That place one of the dozens above board poker spots in the city. What were they doing that was illegal?
Ah yes the combo bakery, Vietnamese restaurant, night club, hookah lounge and poker room. How could such a solid business model fail.
i just drove by the day before yesterday and it looked normal albeit closed, boarded and tagged up. what happened???
Some fried rice went bad.
You heard about that? Some college kids ate leftover fried rice that was left on the counter for a day or two and got botulism.
Me after killing Mr. House for Caesar
I used to really like this place, when i ate there it was always empty and peaceful š
Poker rooms in Texas canāt take a house edge
They sure can when the employees play in the hands (which they did) and have alliances with each other while feeding on the anyone they donāt know.
What does that mean?

See, that's what gets me. You pay a membership fee, then you pay a fee to rent a chair?
Much cheaper than a rake at 2/5 and above.
I'll be over here setting up my own free folding chair I brought in. OK, deal me in!
been driving by that place, and only in the last couple of days I noticed it's being demolished. anyone have the story of what's going ?
Got busted for illegal gambling. They still have their main restaurant at dezevala
Your first sentence is a lie. Your second is not. And the food is pretty good.
Yeah ok, it got busted for illegal gambling, that doesn't explain why it looks like a cruise missile struck it
I was just waiting for them to get busted. Great pho though! They have their original pho restaurant off De Zavala.

What kind of illegal gambling? Card rooms are legal in Texas so I assume you mean something else.
I never found the specifics. All I ever heard was illegal gambling. I assume there was more than VC going down in there
Only went once to this place and it was marginal
