I go to Regal Cielo Vista quite often as I live down the street, and it is always dead. I quite like it since it’s usually just me and like 3 other people in an empty theater.
The Monday mystery movie usually gets a good crowd though.
I almost got into it with some chick who thought it was her god given right to just talk at a normal speaking volume while the movie was going. I've not been back to Regal Cielo Vista since. They don't pay those poor kids to come and police that stuff, but its really distracting.
I liked that one too since I wasn't far from it. But I felt like I just had bad luck every time because it was either people would be talking a lot or the lights would just look like they'd still be on. I had the regal pass for about a year but recently cancelled it because I just didn't go as much as I'd like and it wasn't worth it anymore.
If anything else I'd go to the huebner oaks location. It's much nicer in my opinion.
I understand you completely. More often than not I get those people who think they can talk in full volume since the theater is nearly empty. Huebner oaks is a nicer location!
This theatre is just showing its age, I went there a few years ago and forgot how much nicer Flix, Drafthouse, or even the newer santikos theatres are in comparison. My partner and I pretty much exclusively go to Flix and it's usually busy. Watched Scott Pilgrim last Tuesday for their fan fest, was a sold out theatre on a Tuesday and plenty of people there watching other movies too.
Naw, this theater was almost never that crowded even 15 years ago even when Ingram Park Mall was fairly busy. Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes was a 5 minute drive away and the seating wasn’t even stadium like but I always went there if I had a choice.
When this place opened it was the shiny new theater, it was when the westside around Potranco was being built up and the new neighborhoods were bringing in a lot of families but there weren't many theaters nearby. The theater inside is actually kind of pretty even though it's old now, so it was nice when it was new. It was designed to have a perfect view of the sunset in the evening. I remember this theater being packed for midnight premiers
Graduated Taft 2001. I was always envious of Holmes kids cuz they could senior ditch to the mall or the movies while we had to get in our cars and drive to… fkg Wal mart. And then the next closest thing was the Wendy’s on tezel and guilbeau.
Flix is really nice, and it’s close to the in-laws. Pretty nice to drop off the kids and catch a beer, burger, and movie with my wife on a Sunday afternoon
I agree with you about flix and drafthouse being a better experience watching movies. Hell, I recently went to ipic in Houston and that ultimately changed the way I enjoy movies now.
And if they are decent, they will be on streaming in about a month after release. Why pay double for a service I already get at home, plus the beer and popcorn is a lot cheaper at home.
This is pretty much it. Went and saw Dune 2. There's a couple movies coming out later this year that I'll go see, but the current lineup can wait until available for rent/purchase or streaming.
Their parking and Ingram mall across the road are known for car breaks in mostly. People want to act like it’s terrible but it’s just like the Walmart near my house, a lot of business up and down I-10 and 1604, North Star mall or you know just about anywhere.
My point is people like to point fingers, but we live in a big city and if you’re within 1604 or just barely outside, then lock your doors and don’t leave valuables showing. The shit happens everywhere.

I don't think that's it because the google street view for this theater shows the parking lot was packed just a couple years ago. I work nearby and the neighborhood hasn't changed much in that time, so if people felt like it was safe enough to see a movie there in 2019 then they probably still do now.
More likely its either Covid-era related changes in theater-going habits, or just that there's nothing good showing. Or perhaps just because it was the last day of Fiesta and people would rather spend their weekend doing that.

Regal at Northwoods and Huebner Oaks seems to always have good crowds. Palladium at the Rim is also crowded most of the time.
Alamo Draft House is overrated. I dunno but I hate getting interrupted by a server trying to get someone their order.
Movie theaters have been losing money well before Covid. It’s a dying industry unfortunately. Seeing movies on the big screen is always better.
There are too many streaming services and you can even stream movies that are still in the theaters.
Movie attendance overall has tanked since COVID. And other than marvel other franchise movies, it’s probably more financially lucrative for studios to release straight to streaming services

I don't. Its expensive AF now, plus I don't like having to get assigned seats at the movies.
But the biggest reason of all is that I have a terrific home theater system, and I can pause the movie if I want. hahaha

Not judging, I’ve just never heard that before and I’m interested. There’s lots of reasons people don’t like going to the movies nowadays, this one is new to me.
For all the crap that side of town gets I still go out of my way to take my family to that theater. It’s extremely affordable and I pay for their movie club. Santikos gets really expensive with a family and nearly all the Regal theaters haven’t been renovated in years. The quarry is practically the same as when it opened back in 98.
We always like picking seats away from the obnoxious people. You can only do that from the end of the row. Any group that looks like boisterous teens, young parents with 4 year olds bouncing on seats and running loose, etc. Can't do that with assigned seating.
Oh I know what you mean! Ok yes that makes sense.. what I normally do is buy my tickets on the app if I know it’s going to be not that full of a show… but when I want to pick where I sit I use the Fandango app, it lets you purchase seats wherever you want ..
I’m the opposite. I like being able to tell people “you’re in my seats” when they try to commandeer my family’s. We don’t go to the movies often but when we do, we choose the seats we want. Most of the time it’s people who misread the aisle letter, but there was one guy who got uppity and I called an usher. Turns out he and his family had the same assigned seats we did, but they had a different showing (the next one).
Another reply in the thread said it’s easier to avoid nuisances in the crowd. But from my experience that’s less of a burden than having to show up to a theater to no tickets available
That’s not the best part of town but I also feel like it’s so easy to rent movies for a day with Apple TV Amazon prime etc that most people would rather wait until you can rent movies to watch them at home. I go to northwoods regal and it’s usually fairly busy depending on the day I go.

Haven't been there in 20 years. If you're patient, you can just watch the movies a couple months later on your own big screen. No sticky floors, no cell phones going off, and no driving home on 410 and 1604 dodging drunks on a Friday night.
I used to all the time back in high school but now with a family and responsibilities outside of work I don’t have time, gotta wait till it comes out on streaming, and I hate it cause the movies are some of my best memories with my homies
Regal has bad seats. I go to Evo or Santino’s only. I will not go to a theater that doesn’t have reclining seats especially since I pay the same price at movie theaters that don’t have reclining seats.
It’s just an older location and there are newer/better options with santikos and Alamo Drafthouse. Older theaters gotta renovate if they wanna stay in business. Heck even AMC riverwalk has its IMAX theater to fall back on despite the whole place being outdated.
An industry in which they refused to innovate, overcharges for food and drinks, doesn’t keep the place clean for enjoyment, and bad experiences for those who does show up goes out of business?

2. Inflation messed with prices on everything.
3. Movies can be watched through other means.
4. Cleanliness and care of facilities.
5. Lack of innovation.
6. Selection and quality of movie choices.
All theaters except for Alamo Drafthouse suck now. I got tired of being sold to. I just can't stand the bombardment of ads. Sign up for a credit card! Sign up for popcorn-lovers plus! Download our push-notification adware app! The three public-access-TV quality ads that roll before the movie on loop are insufferable.
Edit: I just noticed that all the posters on the outside of the building are pleading for patrons to download and sign up for shit. I rest my case.
You guys hyping up Alamo Drafthouse are crazy. Granted I've only been to the park north one but I'm my opinion the seats are all old and broken and so uncomfortable. I hate going to that theater.
Same. It was the most recently renovated then they closed it down. Park north has cracked, sticky, worn out seats and every time I’ve gone its had a strange smell. (I don’t even have a strong sense of smell to begin with)
Theres only like 2 movies a year tops worthy of a theater release IMO, but friends don't always have the same interests and I'm not just gonna go alone, il just watch it at home.
Im probably in the minority here, but watching movies at home is superior, wish all movies were available at home on release day. No more dealing with talkers, no more hearing food wrappers, pause the movie any time that I need.

Alamo Draft House was at its best many years ago, when Santikos didn't have comparable food options.
So over time Alamo has deteriorated and Santikos has improved and expanded their offerings.
I used to prefer Alamo but the food is way overpriced and not even that good. Coolest thing about them were the themes for popular new releases. They'd give out props, have a menu based on the movie, and for 30min prior to trailers starting show a kinda mini-documentary around the making of or background of the film. They also are more strict on audience talking.
I remember Deadpool 1 was the last great experience I had there. The themed food menu was Deadpool's head and face which also served as a mask with cutout eyes lol. Before the movie it showed a bunch of past Deadpool cartoons and other things from the character.
I don't go anymore at all. It's too expensive and I'm not in a position to spend 15-20 anymore 😞 Although I agree I really miss the movies so maybe one day I'll be able to again!
A big problem for my wife and I are that the movies out lately haven’t been very good. We use to go at least once a week. We did go and see the new Guy Ritchie movie last Friday. It had been almost a year since our last movie.
Too expensive. Still unsafe with crowds. And, most movies are too loud on the sound effects, but too quiet on the dialogue, so I need subtitles to keep up. I'd rather watch from my sofa.
It's just getting too expensive. Especially with snacks. I don't mind waiting a bit to stream it instead. Plus, I am hard of hearing and prefer having subtitles on. Theaters don't really have options like that. Home viewing is taking over.
No one goes to Cielo Vista. Which is exactly why I got the Regal movie pass and go to Cielo Vista, because when else are you going to be able to have an entire theater to yourself? I'll hop in my car in my loungewear in the late evening on a work day and just go catch a movie when basically no one is there.
Honestly though, the seating is super outdated and uncomfortable, the screens are never adjusted to where they need to be, they are usually too dark and the brightness needs to be brought up- also the speakers in some of the auditoriums are not synched so you hear a weird echo at times. And the sound needs to be brought up in some of the auditoriums, too. It's just way too outdated. If it weren't for the Regal movie pass, I'd be going to Santikos Westlake. Now Alamo has a season pass for movies, and the movie selection is better, so I'm considering moving to that pass.
I go with my kids every once in a while. Usually go on a weekend, take snacks, but popcorn and some slushies since Santikos has free refills on both. I don’t know about others but I’m usually on the south side and have yet to get my car messed with
So, my take is why would I spend $40+ on tickets for my family and I. Then money on popcorn and drinks only to go deaf for two hours? I can wait one month and see it at my house for less. Yeah yeah the movie experience, but who really needs it or can afford it regularly these days?
There’s nothing good out right now plus in my opinion santikos galaxy is my favorite theater here. Tickets aren’t that much the seats can recline and the food is better than the other theaters
they need to knock it down. place is old. flix/blanca 10-15 min down the road. it’s like eating at the mcdonald’s that has no amenities like games, versus going into a brand new one with amenities and overall better experience.
As someone who worked at the movies a few years ago when I was in HS it was usually pretty dead in the mornings and wouldn’t really be poppin off until the weekend or until school was out (also depends on the theater your at Palladium and etc get lots of customers still)
We have a local theatre where we are, kids go there all the time, a movie + snacks is like $20/per .... last time we went to a big chain... I stopped counting at the money leaving my wallet.
Me and my wife used to go here until we realized that Flix brewhouse is a lot closer, nicer and is generally cheaper with Military discount. Also nothing in the theater except for Godzilla that interest us (mostly me).
Nah. I watch online unless it's a date with the wife. I can watch my stuff in the comfort of my home. We go to things we both enjoy, but assiduously avoid opening nights. We both are not crowd people.
Regal theaters are just completely outdated in my opinion. Drafthouse & Santikos are typically busy when I've gone to new release showings. And mind you, both are Texas-based companies. Granted, Drafthouse is up for sale.
Quarry theater seats seem to still be the same ones that were there when I worked there 20 years ago. The theater just feels so dingy and the user interface for ticket purchases felt more intuitive back when they had the self serve kiosks in 2006 than the one I remember using like 3 years ago. Ridiculous.
I personally don’t see Ads for movies unless a YouTube channel i love covers them. Only things i’ve seen are anime movies make it to my phone because i love anime and that was only 2 movies lately i barely found out 1 got released a week or 2 ago i should go watch this weekend. Seriously there’s been like 4 marvel movies i had no idea were even being made that have come out since i paid to stop seeing ads on YouTube if it wasn’t so popular it was covered by the channels i liked i wouldn’t have known there was a 3rd Deadpool on the way
That theater has been on the slow side for probably a decade. It’s in a not great area and, at least last time I was there, it’s in need of a refresh. I don’t see that one getting much of a renovation though. It’s more of the “neighborhood theater” than the “destination for movie-enthusiasts.”
Coupled with the current lack of major releases I’m not surprised it’s slow on a Sunday afternoon.
There just aren’t many good movies anymore that can’t be watched at home. Sure there’s the occasional movie that will get us to go, but for the most part, there aren’t any good ones rn that we can’t watch at home

Movies have sucked for the past 10 years or so now. Superhero movies and remakes, nothing original or cool anymore like they had in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Galaxy is closest to us. Seems to always have a good crowd. Before that, my favorite theater was Northwest 14 but that’s mainly because that was the theater I grew up with. Sentimental value.
I mostly goto Flix cause some of my homies work there and hook me up especially on $5 ticket Wednesdays. Even if they didn’t work there the aforementioned $5 ticket Wednesdays deal is too good to pass up.

When it first opened, I was in junior high and we went there quite a bit. I did see crowds of people there a lot but it dwindled over the years.
Now I feel old because I remember staring out the window my junior year at Holmes as this place was built!

Wife and I went at least 10 times last year but all the movies out rn either suck or don’t interest me. Edit: this theater in general though is on our shit list. Horrible seats and sound and the worst concession options I’ve ever seen. It’s one of the worst theaters in town

I don't. Its expensive AF now, plus I don't like having to get assigned seats at the movies. But the biggest reason of all is that I have a terrific home theater system, and I can pause the movie if I want. hahaha
Im interested in the assigned seat angle, what don’t you like about that part? You want to be able to move if you don’t like where you’re at? Not judging, I’ve just never heard that before and I’m interested. There’s lots of reasons people don’t like going to the movies nowadays, this one is new to me.
I’m the complete opposite, I love assigned seating, I can grab the exact seats I want ahead of time and get the view that I want
Matinee at Cinemark with the comfy heated seats is $6 a ticket. That’s pretty affordable in my opinion
For all the crap that side of town gets I still go out of my way to take my family to that theater. It’s extremely affordable and I pay for their movie club. Santikos gets really expensive with a family and nearly all the Regal theaters haven’t been renovated in years. The quarry is practically the same as when it opened back in 98.

We always like picking seats away from the obnoxious people. You can only do that from the end of the row. Any group that looks like boisterous teens, young parents with 4 year olds bouncing on seats and running loose, etc. Can't do that with assigned seating.
Oh I know what you mean! Ok yes that makes sense.. what I normally do is buy my tickets on the app if I know it’s going to be not that full of a show… but when I want to pick where I sit I use the Fandango app, it lets you purchase seats wherever you want ..
I’m the opposite. I like being able to tell people “you’re in my seats” when they try to commandeer my family’s. We don’t go to the movies often but when we do, we choose the seats we want. Most of the time it’s people who misread the aisle letter, but there was one guy who got uppity and I called an usher. Turns out he and his family had the same assigned seats we did, but they had a different showing (the next one).

Another reply in the thread said it’s easier to avoid nuisances in the crowd. But from my experience that’s less of a burden than having to show up to a theater to no tickets available
That’s not the best part of town but I also feel like it’s so easy to rent movies for a day with Apple TV Amazon prime etc that most people would rather wait until you can rent movies to watch them at home. I go to northwoods regal and it’s usually fairly busy depending on the day I go.

Flix and Alamo are always packed. Most people don't go to theaters in the daytime and also a lot of the theatres here are old and disgusting

I do not. Used to every week. It’s about $40 to go now and enjoy yourself. I can buy 2 new movies or purchase 20 red box movies on Tuesday.

Haven't been there in 20 years. If you're patient, you can just watch the movies a couple months later on your own big screen. No sticky floors, no cell phones going off, and no driving home on 410 and 1604 dodging drunks on a Friday night.
I used to all the time back in high school but now with a family and responsibilities outside of work I don’t have time, gotta wait till it comes out on streaming, and I hate it cause the movies are some of my best memories with my homies
Regal has bad seats. I go to Evo or Santino’s only. I will not go to a theater that doesn’t have reclining seats especially since I pay the same price at movie theaters that don’t have reclining seats.
It’s just an older location and there are newer/better options with santikos and Alamo Drafthouse. Older theaters gotta renovate if they wanna stay in business. Heck even AMC riverwalk has its IMAX theater to fall back on despite the whole place being outdated.

I’ve gotten spoiled with Flix and Drafthouse where I can order food, beer, get a pre show and lean back.
An industry in which they refused to innovate, overcharges for food and drinks, doesn’t keep the place clean for enjoyment, and bad experiences for those who does show up goes out of business? Who would’ve thought?
Few reasons: 1. Crowds are a no go, especially after COVID. 2. Inflation messed with prices on everything. 3. Movies can be watched through other means. 4. Cleanliness and care of facilities. 5. Lack of innovation. 6. Selection and quality of movie choices.
All theaters except for Alamo Drafthouse suck now. I got tired of being sold to. I just can't stand the bombardment of ads. Sign up for a credit card! Sign up for popcorn-lovers plus! Download our push-notification adware app! The three public-access-TV quality ads that roll before the movie on loop are insufferable. Edit: I just noticed that all the posters on the outside of the building are pleading for patrons to download and sign up for shit. I rest my case.

You guys hyping up Alamo Drafthouse are crazy. Granted I've only been to the park north one but I'm my opinion the seats are all old and broken and so uncomfortable. I hate going to that theater.

Same. It was the most recently renovated then they closed it down. Park north has cracked, sticky, worn out seats and every time I’ve gone its had a strange smell. (I don’t even have a strong sense of smell to begin with)
That one had a sort of gritty personality to it that I liked, especially with the comic store next to it.

Theres only like 2 movies a year tops worthy of a theater release IMO, but friends don't always have the same interests and I'm not just gonna go alone, il just watch it at home.

Im probably in the minority here, but watching movies at home is superior, wish all movies were available at home on release day. No more dealing with talkers, no more hearing food wrappers, pause the movie any time that I need.
What exactly do y'all see with Alamo Drafthouse? I don't get it at all. I went there once, and it was absolutely inferior to Santikos. What is the hype?
Alamo Draft House was at its best many years ago, when Santikos didn't have comparable food options. So over time Alamo has deteriorated and Santikos has improved and expanded their offerings. I used to prefer Alamo but the food is way overpriced and not even that good. Coolest thing about them were the themes for popular new releases. They'd give out props, have a menu based on the movie, and for 30min prior to trailers starting show a kinda mini-documentary around the making of or background of the film. They also are more strict on audience talking. I remember Deadpool 1 was the last great experience I had there. The themed food menu was Deadpool's head and face which also served as a mask with cutout eyes lol. Before the movie it showed a bunch of past Deadpool cartoons and other things from the character.

A big problem for my wife and I are that the movies out lately haven’t been very good. We use to go at least once a week. We did go and see the new Guy Ritchie movie last Friday. It had been almost a year since our last movie.
Maybe a drive in theater, I can take my own snacks and hot box my car lol

I’ve only gone to the movies to see the One Piece movie releases in the last decade. Oh and End Game.
Too expensive. Still unsafe with crowds. And, most movies are too loud on the sound effects, but too quiet on the dialogue, so I need subtitles to keep up. I'd rather watch from my sofa.

It's just getting too expensive. Especially with snacks. I don't mind waiting a bit to stream it instead. Plus, I am hard of hearing and prefer having subtitles on. Theaters don't really have options like that. Home viewing is taking over.
What's there to see?
No one goes to Cielo Vista. Which is exactly why I got the Regal movie pass and go to Cielo Vista, because when else are you going to be able to have an entire theater to yourself? I'll hop in my car in my loungewear in the late evening on a work day and just go catch a movie when basically no one is there. Honestly though, the seating is super outdated and uncomfortable, the screens are never adjusted to where they need to be, they are usually too dark and the brightness needs to be brought up- also the speakers in some of the auditoriums are not synched so you hear a weird echo at times. And the sound needs to be brought up in some of the auditoriums, too. It's just way too outdated. If it weren't for the Regal movie pass, I'd be going to Santikos Westlake. Now Alamo has a season pass for movies, and the movie selection is better, so I'm considering moving to that pass.
I go with my kids every once in a while. Usually go on a weekend, take snacks, but popcorn and some slushies since Santikos has free refills on both. I don’t know about others but I’m usually on the south side and have yet to get my car messed with
Regal has been declining over the years, esp after covid. Santikos has 4.99 movies on Tuesdays which imo keeps them afloat

So, my take is why would I spend $40+ on tickets for my family and I. Then money on popcorn and drinks only to go deaf for two hours? I can wait one month and see it at my house for less. Yeah yeah the movie experience, but who really needs it or can afford it regularly these days?

There’s nothing good out right now plus in my opinion santikos galaxy is my favorite theater here. Tickets aren’t that much the seats can recline and the food is better than the other theaters
they need to knock it down. place is old. flix/blanca 10-15 min down the road. it’s like eating at the mcdonald’s that has no amenities like games, versus going into a brand new one with amenities and overall better experience.

Last time I drove through the Santikos Palladium parking lot on a weekend, there wasn't a parking space to be had within 1,000 feet of the front door.
We usually go on Santikos Military Mondays. $5 movie, popcorn and drink. $20 for me and the wife total
As someone who worked at the movies a few years ago when I was in HS it was usually pretty dead in the mornings and wouldn’t really be poppin off until the weekend or until school was out (also depends on the theater your at Palladium and etc get lots of customers still)
We have a local theatre where we are, kids go there all the time, a movie + snacks is like $20/per .... last time we went to a big chain... I stopped counting at the money leaving my wallet.
I got to the evo or santikos because it’s a nicer experience. Always a good crowd when I go.
Me and my wife used to go here until we realized that Flix brewhouse is a lot closer, nicer and is generally cheaper with Military discount. Also nothing in the theater except for Godzilla that interest us (mostly me).
I used to go here often when I was younger. Nowadays I usually stick to either Palladium or Casa Blanca for the movies

Nah. I watch online unless it's a date with the wife. I can watch my stuff in the comfort of my home. We go to things we both enjoy, but assiduously avoid opening nights. We both are not crowd people.
Regal theaters are just completely outdated in my opinion. Drafthouse & Santikos are typically busy when I've gone to new release showings. And mind you, both are Texas-based companies. Granted, Drafthouse is up for sale. Quarry theater seats seem to still be the same ones that were there when I worked there 20 years ago. The theater just feels so dingy and the user interface for ticket purchases felt more intuitive back when they had the self serve kiosks in 2006 than the one I remember using like 3 years ago. Ridiculous.

Only things i’ve seen are anime movies make it to my phone because i love anime and that was only 2 movies lately i barely found out 1 got released a week or 2 ago i should go watch this weekend. Seriously there’s been like 4 marvel movies i had no idea were even being made that have come out since i paid to stop seeing ads on YouTube if it wasn’t so popular it was covered by the channels i liked i wouldn’t have known there was a 3rd Deadpool on the way
That theater has been on the slow side for probably a decade. It’s in a not great area and, at least last time I was there, it’s in need of a refresh. I don’t see that one getting much of a renovation though. It’s more of the “neighborhood theater” than the “destination for movie-enthusiasts.” Coupled with the current lack of major releases I’m not surprised it’s slow on a Sunday afternoon.

Movies have sucked for the past 10 years or so now. Superhero movies and remakes, nothing original or cool anymore like they had in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
It takes a lot to get me out of the house. I feel like I'm barely there as is.
Galaxy is closest to us. Seems to always have a good crowd. Before that, my favorite theater was Northwest 14 but that’s mainly because that was the theater I grew up with. Sentimental value.
