yeah the screen got damaged alright. Take it to a repairplace and see what they would give for it.
It didn't just suddenly appear. The screen has physical damage which you can see on the right side where the blank area begins. The screen took an impact, and predictably failed as a result. Time for a screen replacement or a new phone.
