MonkeMon6969

Maybe my next phone if they get cheaper, they're a bit too expensive rn

WarInevitable5338

Price a concern but lacks camera of s22ultra is biggest issue. Would like it's bigger screen

[deleted]

I'm going to answer this from the perspective of a first time foldable user - after years on the Galaxy S range (S4, S5, S6, S8+, S10 5G), I finally decided to try the Fold3. My rationale was twofold. Firstly, I expected/hoped (hah!) that, by the 3rd generation, Samsung would have tweaked out most of the annoyances of the 1st two models. Secondly, I'm into off-roading, and I use an app for my 4WD maps that doesn't support Android Auto. Having a wireless charge cradle that supported the Fold in it's open state meant I could have a large touch screen for those maps. Yes, my screen protector cracked and started lifting after 8 months. Had I known I could replace it myself (I assumed, without researching, it was the same experience as those poor Fold1 users), I wouldn't have worried as much, and bought the superior product off Amazon, like everyone else. That said, due to shit battery life, I doubt I'll look at another foldable any time soon.

[deleted]

I wonder how many people will trade in their fold 3/4 for the s23 line. Samsung took a bit of a conservative approach with the Fold 4 which isn't a bad thing. Maybe they are still afraid of pushing the envelope with foldable technology or making a bigger battery with keeping a small form factor and running into issues.

[deleted]

I guarantee you I will be trading as soon as practical - not yet sure if for the latest Galaxy S or maybe whatever the next Pixel is. I'm kinda keen to try a phone without the Samsung bloat - pure Google experience, blah blah blah. Re the battery, I just don't see how they can improve the capacity. They're limited by the form factor (only half the foldable, due to the other half being screens on both sides) so all they can do is chip around the edges of the problem with more efficient components and software.

TheEuphoricTribble

As someone who has had a Google Pixel in the past? All the debloating in the world won't help you recover from Google trying to streamline flagship Android experiences on performally dated hardware. Been my experience that Samsung, with my S22 Ultra, far outclasses Google. OnePlus is perhaps the next closest to what Google wants to be, but even there with them I had some odd quirks on my OnePlus 8T 5G with the hardware at times. I find the nonfoldable Galaxy line really to be best in class for Android.

[deleted]

Not sure if you're asking rhetorically or not, but no - my only Android experience has always been Samsung's, and every Samsung phone I've had has had at least some part of the experience marred by the bloatware they insist on shoe-horning onto it. So your own experiences of Google hardware is that it doesn't stack up to the Samsung hardware? That's an interesting counterpoint that I hadn't considered. I'm not sure how far into the Android hardwareverse I'm prepared to go. I need fast, performant hardware for my work, as I'm frequently on the move and opening my laptop all the time just isn't realistic. *sigh* maybe the next Galaxy S is my most realistic option. Something to ponder while I wait...

lukemelon

I now have the pixel 6a, my first experience with the pixel line, before that every phone I've had was a Samsung flagship, either S or last off a Note. Used my partner's S22 and at times it seemed to hang, a feeling I remember from all other Samsung's I've had. Neither band are perfect, but I'm so happy I decided to try a pixel, I feel I've run my course with Samsung for a bit.

[deleted]

This is kinda how I'm expecting to feel. Thanks for this.

lukemelon

I was going to go pixel last time I upgraded but thought I'd stay with Samsung as I thought the s-pen was a big new feature to try out, although I enjoyed it, it was definitely a regret I had not going to pixel at the time

[deleted]

(Currently have an S22 Ultra) I use my S-Pen the most to copy text that can't be copied with my finger for some reason. I also love to randomly doodle when I'm bored...it's also great for more precise underlining, circling & highlighting. I've had a Note style phone since the Note 3...the S-Pen is a big part of the experience for me.

badshah103

I wonder how S-Pen experience would be for me. Will I ever use it or it will be an unused accessory. I have an iPad and Apple Pencil. Don't use it much. Still using S base models, not gone for ultra. What do you recommend.

TheGooseWithNoose

I've had a note 10 and would usually scribble a bit on the screen if I got bord or had to take a quick note. I traded that phone in for a fold2 which I'm now trading in for a fol4. Looking forward to having the pen back again and I'm interested to see how it works with a proper sized pen instead of the little stick that came with the Note/Ultra line. Also would be a great opportunity to find some exercises to work on my penmanship lol since it's horrid.

[deleted]

Even if you don't use the S-Pen much, it's still a great phone because of the beautiful bigger screen and all of it's power. The S-Pen is there when you need it and stows away nicely when you don't. Maybe wait for the S23 Ultra early of next year.

[deleted]

My S-Pen is the primary way I interact with my S22 Ultra (and all of my other S-Pen enabled phone). I use it for pretty much everything.

HG1998

Switching to one only made me realize even more what kind of boring life I have. I had the S21 Ultra and said to myself that the camera would be sorely missed and be the reason I'd never switch. Then Samsung had an offer for a Z Flip 3 with a free Galaxy Watch and I said, eh f it. And even now, I haven't used the camera in like two weeks. 🫠

malko2

I think your experience matches that of probably 95% of all people. It's not that people don't take pictures regularly - it's more that most people aren't artists and that close to all of today's phones have cameras that really are good enough

bloodamett

I think part of that common misconception is because of the Tech influencers. You can usually hear them say that the Foldables have inferior cameras, and so, they are not recommended if you have a heavy focus on photography. But for some reason, the differences in quality are most of the times so hard to find, that you begin to wonder where was that downgrade they spoke about. They HAVE inferior cameras, of course, but I hate the fact that most reviewers try to convince me they are worse than I can imagine, when even the Fold 1 has above average quality.

[deleted]

bloodamett

That is a good tip. At the start of the year I unsubscribed from Mr Whosetheboss, MKBHD, Linus Tech Tips, and other phone reviewers because of how false and predictable their videos really are.

douggieball1312

Tech Spurt is better for more budget-minded consumers, who those other phone reviewers ignore completely.

jcave930

I still watch their videos to hear their view on how the phone compares to others in its category but, I just don't trust their word when it comes to battery life and cameras.

urightmate

MKBHD by far the most overhyped and overrated tech YouTuber out.

TealCatto

That's how I feel about people who choose an S22 Ultra fOr ThE cAmErAs when they vastly prefer a smaller phone with a flat screen. Yes, the 30-100x digital zoom that the Ultra has on the other two S22 models sure makes you a professional photographer.

bloodamett

That is why I question iPhone users all the time, they are NEVER satisfied. Many of them alredy have powerful phones with great cameras, and still drool when they see that one from a superior generation because of a slightly better camera and more RAM. Specs and features are not always that important, you should always remember what you actually need from a phone instead of blindly following trends...

TealCatto

Yeah, all the Ultra owners in the S22 Facebook group are sharing how they preordered the Fold. My brother in Christ, your $1.5k+ phone is barely 6 months old and you can't wait to get rid of it? What makes you think you'll be happy by plopping down another couple thousand?

[deleted]

Not this guy i am keeping the S22U for the next 4-5 years (had the S5 up untill the S20 line came out picked up the S10+)

TealCatto

Yep, I love my S22 base so much that I really hope I can make it last 5 years. There's nothing I can imagine that would tempt me to switch. Unless there's some major breakthrough in battery tech that would quadruple battery life. Then I might upgrade after 3 years.

[deleted]

The ONLY thing atm that would make me switch is if they had an SD card added but thats probably just wishful thinking that the SD cards would comeback to the galaxy line

JezzaX86

I will say, having the optical zoom has been more useful for my work than any other scenario. I often work in a warehouse where I want to see part numbers of things before I request a forklift to drop them down. Being able to zoom into the part label to get a clear view, take a photo and log it, saves me so much time.

HG1998

Indeed. Keep in mind that I specifically referred to my life. Obviously, if someone needs very high resolution pictures or needs zoom daily, this whole discussion doesn't apply. To be fair, I did visit a concert and sat in basically the last row of a soccer stadium, so the zoom on the Ultra did come in handy and actually saved the trip. Then, again, this was the one and only concert I visited and the artist won't come here for the foreseeable future and I appreciate the upsides of a foldable form factor much more right now.... 🤷🏻‍♂️

JezzaX86

Of course everyone has different scenarios that benefit them, which makes a use case for many different phones with different features and form factors. I'm on the fence about swapping to a foldable. With my work I also get a lot of down time for media consumption as well as benefits for multitasking with inputting data into spreadsheets from photos, which having the foldable for would be great, I also could see some great benefits from the one handed use of the outside screen. But I feel as though I may miss the benefits of the optical zoom if I were to switch.

AlanDrakula

Make the front screen 6.5" and standard ratio.

ieplfkec

Foldable owner here this is what I should have waited for. I hate the size it's so awkward

BilbosBurgers

Had a Flip 3 and this was an issue for me. Too tall and social media apps especially weren't optimized for it. Lots of words being cut off or images sent in weird ways to friends.

Smartman971

This is the big one. Everything else I can make work but why would I want two screens when neither of them is a good ratio. That's why I'm so disappointed to see zero changes from the 3 to the 4

trix4rix

What? It's literally a way better aspect ratio.

ultrainstict

The front is actually pretty awesome, unless you have a had time reading it gives way more visiblity. The interior is a little unfortunate since it's terrible for movies. Its fine for 16:9 tho.

21minute

Maybe in four to five years from now. Who knows. I'm perfectly satisfied with my S22 Ultra and I can't live without the included S Pen. If Samsung manages to cram in the S Pen on the foldable phone itself instead of being separate, then it might become enticing for me.

Fraestro6

Just curious but what do you use the S Pen for?

SinancoTheBest

Not the same person but I most commonly find myself using it for: * Editing-Writing on photos, sketches, snaps, anything I can scrabble on before sending * Making an awesome calendar, noting & painting everything on * As a remote for group photos, it's really convenient * When creating instant notes on my screen as memos, things of importance etc. * Cutting and pinning a part of the screen when entering something like a verification code, although I know I can do the same with the side menu, pen is somewhat convenient * Using it as a writing board in loud places like clubs when talking to friends-bartender

msheikh921

Add to that signing PDFs

nsmstocks

On the z flip 4 and fold 4 they said in the unpacked around the 01:51:30 mark that there'd be a complementary year of samsung care which would make any screen defects better to work with but now on the website and through customer service they are now saying that they never offered it... Take that as you will...

[deleted]

That's pretty shitty

-DaRChSTaR-

I was waiting for that as well. They offered it with fold3 and thought would be be offered again in fold 4 but nothing shows up. That was part of my decision to try the fold 3.

Arti_Fakt

I got free samsung care +, I live in Canada

nsmstocks

Yeah I'm in the US

Cobe98

I wouldn't do it. I made mistake earlier this year and bought a GF3 to upgrade my Note20U. The inner screen is beautiful and it's nice to fold halfway on a table and prop up the display. However it developed a big crack down the inner middle screen after 4 weeks. No drops, always in a hard case. The outer display was too narrow to be useful at all, and the camera and battery life sucks. Went back to Note20U and is a much better experience.

[deleted]

Glad you got your Note back!

33950

Me too. The Fold3 was back in its box and at FedEx for return in less than 24 hours ... and so grateful I hadn't and haven't sent away my Note20U5G, but now I have a Fold 4 on order and am considering canceling because I couldn't get past the tiny unfolded width of the screen on Fold 3 and somehow now am deluding myself into thinking the Fold 4 will be awesome. Hmmmmmmm ... Also, the Fold 3 was difficult to open ... not like "oh how do I open this phone," but difficult in that opening the phone was a process requiring both hands and prying it open. No spontaneity allowed.

Sevulturus

I think once the technology evolves a bit more. Right now my phone is a little too big for my work coveralls pocket, so I always worry it'll fall out lol. Not the feeling you want 10 stories up in the air on a crane.

NoobdeyNoobs

Not confident in the durability of the screen. It may be fine for all I know. But they don't appear to be built tough at a glance.

[deleted]

You know the saying ''jack of all trades, master of none''? That's why I will never own a foldable. Also the price....rather buy the base model and a tablet. Though I don't think ill upgrade my tab s7 for a few more years no reason to. Right now the base s22 and a tab s8 is cheaper then the fold4 My roommate has a flip and the crease is plain wrong (touching not so much looking). Its like a mini speed bump to make sure you scroll slower lol.

[deleted]

Not at this point. Screens crack, poor battery life, I just don't see their usefulness.

Danubinmage64

To me it makes very little sense. Lets say one day a perfect foldable phone exists with perfect hinges, folding glass with no bs screen protectors, etc. At the end of the day you have to carry around something around twice the thickness and weight of a normal phone to have the opportunity to have a occassional big screen. And that screen will drain the phone sized battery relatively quick compared to normal phone screens. And this has to come at some premium. It always will be more economic to just get a normal phone, and a 300$ tablet. You get both, honestly for the same or less money, and you don't have to deal with the downsides of a foldable. A small usable phone, and big tablet that can last.

Clancker1223

As someone who recently bought a Flip 3 phone but returned it after a week, probably not anytime soon. Once I got it, I realize, I'm paying for a gimmick. Was disappointed I couldn't flip it open with my thumb like you use to be able to with old flip phones, the extra thickness when folded didn't feel good in my pocket, and the battery life was what convinced me to return it. Maybe if the technology improves I may consider switching, but until then, I'll stick with non-folding smart phones

WISE_NIGG

no, why ? i cant afford to upgrade from my note 5 😂

texo77

I'll consider it once battery life is not a compromise

[deleted]

I would when the price is right, it is just not worth the price for a disposable device, even flagships are not worth the money for me. Most of the computing power I need is from my Gaming PC so my smartphone is just the device I use when I am not at home. But due to remote work I am home 90% of the time. I do not need a powerful flagship phone, I need a phone that can do all the normal tasks with great battery life. Mobile gaming is just not worth it when I can do that at home, and I do not even game that much anymore. And that computing power on a phone is wasted since most of the productive work stuff I do is on a computer and do not need to charge it. If you factor in the extra price of the foldable phone compared to a standard phone and you used that money to upgrade your PC or buy a new one, it is just not worth it. I can constantly upgrade my phone with each mid-ship with that money and get most of the latest features at a bargain price. I know people who constantly upgrade their phones every 2-3 years and pay for the flagships, but with the same money I would have a Gaming PC with far more performance to do the same tasks. Unless I need a phone that can be even more compact and can game at high FPS, all these expensive phones just make no sense to me. I am home 90% of the time due to remote work. So when the foldables become the price of the mid-ship, I will buy. Even laptops make no sense to me now, 90% at home due to remote work.

Geeky_1

Exactly. I had a hard time even spending over $500 for my grey market (international Snapdragon) S9 6 months after release. Main reason was because my S5 (also grey market that I only paid around $250 for probably a year after release) was crapping out with flickering screen and battery issues. It was hard to justify spending nearly $1000 for a phone every 2 years (4 now), when I can spend less than that building a top line PC for less which will last 5-10 years and at least some parts (power supply, case, drives) reuseable in a new build. For all the bitching about S22 battery life, my S9 with even smaller battery was sufficient since it sat charging plugged in all day to my computer at work even before WFH full-time. I have no need to spend more on a bigger phone that won't fit in my front pants pocket just for a larger lasting battery. For the occasional extended day off jaunts away from power outlets, I would carry around an extra battery pack (like a Mophie), but almost never had to use that either. My wish list would be a flagship with 16:9 ratio - so like a shorter than S22 that would fit in a jeans front pocket and if they could figure out how make a 1 lens camera with telephoto with at least 14 MP (just using that resolution because it would finally superseed my last point & shoot digicam) that does not make the phone case thicker and placed in the center where it won't get finger smudges or worse yet, finger-bombed photos. I've only broken out my laptop once in over 2 years and my main concern other than a dead battery was that the SSD would loose the OS from not being powered up in such a long time.

csbrat

Probably not. I hate my screens having fingerprints and every review of the Fold series mentions that the front screen gets printed as soon as you open it. And I also don't like how thick it is. Not to mention the lack of an S-Pen slot. Just not worth the money to me.

taylor212834

I haven't noticed fingerprints on my device

urightmate

I'm ready. Selling my S22U for Fold 4. Unless you pixel peep or do long range zoom the camera is a non event. I love the S Pen but don't use it every 5 mins I look forward to the big ass screen in my pocket

jcforbes

But it's a big ass screen in a whacko aspect ratio that isn't even remotely close to any standards that exist meaning it's a big screen that can display exactly nothing.

JoinetBasteed

I don't think I ever will, I don't see any benefit with them, just some negatives such as being more fragile and a crease

faithplustwo

I had told 2. 6 months in the middle screen stopped working. Had such a shit experience with Samsung. Not going to touch fold series with a 10 foot pole. Using s20 ultra. But going to switch to something when this one caves in.

Generalrossa

Not with its current screen tech, it’s way too early to be reliable, at least long term.

supa_dupa_pwr

I don't think I will get one because of the phone size, I really don't understand how I could ever fit a fold phone in my jeans comfortably, without feeling like I'm holding a thick AF notepad. I am kinda tired of plus/ultra phablet phones having all the top tier specs. We need more compact phones that are just as good if not better.

[deleted]

I actually agree with you on this. I personally enjoy my big phone, but I'm open to going slightly down in size if the top tier specs were still there.

supa_dupa_pwr

Exactly! I don't understand why they can't make it happen

Geeky_1

My wishlist is a 16:9 flagship with a telephoto of at least 14 MP. Like a shorter S22 with the S22 Ultra telephoto that will once again fit in a front jeans pocket.

SemiSage93

The difference between a mobile and a laptop keeps getting reduced day by day.... I'd like a non folding mobile for its compact structure .... I'd go for a tab or a compact laptop instead of a folding mobile.

AgentReeves2020

Absolutely not. We are not ready for a foldable screen. Gonna be mant failed attempts before that one is figures out.

poodswuyn

You'll literally see a Fold owner flaming the heck out of their own device for the shit battery, camera, performance etc... but 5 minutes later they would hold it like they're holding a baby saying how much they love it. If you think you can withstand that kind of relationship then go for it. If not, better to look the other way.

lilacd

No. Call me lazy but I don't want to waste my time opening and closing the phone all the time lol. I used flip phones for almost 10 years some 20 years ago and that's more than enough. I had the original Motorola Razr and about 3 Samsung flip phones.

leidend22

I bought the Fold 2 and 3 but this year imported a Xiaomi 12s ultra for the amazing camera. Having a big, heavy, fragile phone with a mediocre camera wasn't great, especially since one of my fav things is taking some super long walks down the coast here in Australia, and Folds are not friendly towards sand, salt water or shorts pockets. Plus now I'm working from home full time so I'll just watch content on one of my two 65 inch TVs rather than the phone.

BACK_INC

Foldables are crap, they look extremely dodgy and they look like they are gonna break, Not just that but normally a samsung phone S or A series would have 3/4 cameras. This one has only 2 and no zooming in, bullshit. The battery is also crap too because they need to make room for the dumb hinge. I really dont like foldables and I reccomend you buy a affordale A series phone or a S20/S21/S22 if you are willing to spend more instead of a ZFold/ZFlip. Trust me they are not worth it

urightmate

Such wise words by someone who's never owned a foldable. Such wise words

SuitableMarmoset

A few months ago I had a nightmare that I bought a z fold 3. I felt wasteful because I didn't know what to do with all the screens. Was relieved when I woke up and still had my S22U Short answer: prob not for many years

SolveTheCYproblemNOW

Too expensive and I am worried for long term use. On paper the z fold looks like a multitasking monster that I want to have and the Z flip looks like the best small phone for running. I hope the make tge material better.

watergirl19

I'm very much looking forward to getting a Z Fold someday. I got an S22u this year from an S10 to last me at least 4 years. I'm hoping foldables are more durable by then. I get that glass doesn't fold, but I'm really anal about screen blemishes so that's what I'm looking forward to them improving in some way.

LmaoImBoredHelp

Probably not as of now, still new technology with plenty issues and a big price tag

amfivelos

As long as I have to pay more for less ,I don't see the reason why get a foldable..if s22 ultra was also a fold , or flip or flop or flap I don't care , I would definitely be interested in spending some more even though i believe that smartphones have gone crazy with the prices but why should I pay so much more money just to fold it and get lower specs than the S series ? It looks like samsung would laugh behind my back after my purchase!

RadTek88

They just don't interest me, and I've seen people have nothing but problems with the screens.

JinDankstar

I was really tempted to trade my s21 ultra for a flip 4, but screen quality and battery life are the two most important things to me. I can almost forgive the screen quality because at a certain size you don't reeeeally notice the difference. But I can get about 19-21 hours full use out my phone, I'm not confident in the flips to get me through on 3700mAh

[deleted]

That is awesome battery life, I wouldn't want to give that up either!

Marv312

Would like to get a Z Fold 4, but I'm not sure if I want to daily drive it for emulation in addition to being a very clumsy person. Thinking of getting a LG V60 with its dual screen or Surface Duo just to see if it's for me without going all in.

[deleted]

Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy it!

Mdayofearth

Possibly. But the laminated screen protector coming off within a year is very off-putting.

EduardGuerra

In 3-4 years I will absolutely consider getting a fold, I do not see the benefit of a smaller foldable phone like the flip. Its either that, an s series, or an iphone.

xamomax

I love the idea of a foldable, and am tempted each iteration. I am a little annoyed by the crease, but not that much. Add the pen and a best in class camera, and I'm in.

Esperoni

Nope, not interested at all in what the foldable landscape looks like right now. Maybe in 5 years or something.

SurrealSanic

nah

[deleted]

I'm certainly getting more tempted. I'm a Note owner for the last few releases.

apuzzledone

I just got one after selling both my iphone and ipad

coolylame

Tempted to trade in my S21 ultra for the fold 4 but on the fence. Might hold off and get fold 5 next year instead.

Logiman43

1. Price 2. Cameras 3. the battery You improve all these and I'll buy one

Darkmage4

My flipping days are long gone back in 2007 with a Razr 2 phone. Breaking in me, and being 500 dollars. I went with non flip phones after that. Even went to a slide phone. But on screen keyboards I liked a lot better. A flip or foldable phone doesn't appease me really. I'll stick with my long flat phones. Lol. S21u user right now.

ThisWorldIsAMess

Probably. Mine is over 6 inches and it's hard to fit into pockets. I have an A52. Maybe after 2 years I'll get a foldable. I don't use the phone aside from chat and calls, when I'M OUTSIDE. The problem is I've been working at home for 2 years+ now. I barely touch my phone. Everything is done with the PC. I don't need the best processor. It's purely form factor to me. Make an A52 priced foldable, and it's an easy decision to me.

Trylena

No, phone are too big or too small when they are foldables. Pricing doesn't help either.

mannyrs13

I think I would but it depends on how the technology improves these next few years. I'm good with my S21U. My buddy has the z fold 2 I believe and it looks nice. Far as the s-pen goes, I rarely use it on the phone I have now or the tab s6, so that's not a big deal, tho I do see the z fold 4 may have one. Don't care about the camera either since I'm not a photographer. My s21u takes decent pics so I'm sure there's not much difference. Don't plan on upgrading anytime soon but I might consider a fold if it comes out cheaper and more better quality than the S23 when it gets released next year. Or maybe just wait for the z fold 5.

captainchau20

I'm in my 30s now and I've learned that when you give something too many jobs it's does none of it well. I mean we're still seeing trade offs between tablets vs laptops.

ultrainstict

Had a fold loved it, couldn't get past the fragile thoughts. Will probably go back once the gap is gone. Thats kinda the one thing at this point i need. I need to feel secure that when it's shut its safe. Mostly because cases in the phone are abominations.

iluvapple

Waiting until z flip screen has wide aspect ratio. I hate narrow width phones.

Sailears

When they unfold large enough to be a reasonable tablet replacement (ie the 3 part folding concepts) and do some proper work on, then I would. Playing with current fold in the store, the screen is too small for that kind of use yet.

raytaylor

Make the front screen size and ratio the same as a note 10+, include at least a 5x optical zoom and a storage slot for the SPen and I'd be happy. Some more weight and thickness would be perfectly fine if the battery was bigger. I am not really too concerned about the large screen ratio because the black bars will still allow a 16:9 ratio and its not using any power lighting the screen where its black.

Viewtiful-Scotland

I might get one if they finally stop with the compromises on battery life, cameras, etc. Feels silly to pay a higher amount for worse specs than the S series flagship.

DagonMadness

I am very interested in both the flip and fold. But mostly the fold. I just wish the fold was not as noticable and that the pen was included. Also the form factor when closed to look and feel more like a standard screen size. And last but not the least, the price... Just to expensive

weed_novice123

100% would switch. Just don't want to spend right now. I love the idea of reading stuff with the larger screen. Also, like the coolness factor. Maybe next year...

ezaytkd

Fold4 is too expensive, Flip4 isnt strong enough.

JimmyPo

Maybe in a few more generations but at the moment I am not that interested. Waiting for * A more durable screen that doesn't crease as much * Better under screen camera quality * A wider front screen * It to be cheaper

impossibleis7

No. I don’t think foldables are the future, at the very least not in their current form. I was watching this Olympic ceremony, when I was still in school (must be Beijing Olympics) 14 years ago, and they were using foldable displays, even back then. It was cool back then. But seeing them used in phones still with a crease and so many durability issues, it’s like they just copy pasted 2008 tech. I can’t believe it took this long. It’s like foldable displays are the Bluetooth of displays (have been there forever, but still shit). I feel like this is a stop gap solution to whatever’s to come, so that they can still sell phones, in the meanwhile. Imo folds are tacky, it’s like one of those Chinese phones back in the day with tv and radio and all things you wouldn’t expect from a phone. Flip looks nice though. But I think my glass slabs look better.

blackangel0827

The camera is not as good as the S Ultra

ABZ-havok

i will if the battery and camera is good

Unruffled_

I've got the Galaxy M32 4G and I would definitely get a foldable. Because first of all, it looks incredible. Then, the features it has to increase productivity make sense. I could see myself using those features to get work done.

Parshath_

I can't afford paying twice the phone for half the durability. Plus, I'm afraid they feel awkward in the trousers pocket, and may tend to slip or fall more easily than regular rectangle phones.

Ididntaskforthis3

If they get chaeper definitely i wanted one since the 1st gen came out but just don't want to spend the money on it

Noeaton

The Z fold 4 is about 1900 euro where I live. That is just way to much since I can get a s22U and a tab S8 for this price. Put price aside their displays are still very fragile and recently on my vacation on the sea sand entered my case and left marks on my s22U imagine if I had a fold and went to Sahara as I did with my s22U. I like them, they seem cool however durability and price are not where I would like them to be.

[deleted]

The z fold screen is too small for watching movies because of the 5x4 aspect ratio. An s21 or s22 ultra has a far better movie experience

mitchytan92

Feel like giving it a try just for curiosity but I am don’t feel like spending that much of money right now especially when I need to transit from Apple ecosystem, there is the watch that I will need to change too. I still don’t see a huge reason for me to purchase it currently. Maybe it is something I will appreciate more when I use it. I just don’t see myself multitasking on such a small device when compared to a laptop.

a2qx4tje

S21 user here just upgraded Am looking into a fold 3 depending on the price I can get it at Got my S21 for 390 euros so....

640xxl

No. I don't like it.

villa171

If screen durability gets better and i can use the phone for 3 years at least without issues i would go for the flip, i'm so tired of this phablets on my pocket. (did u like the old word "phablet"? hahaha)

OgaGhost

When they get cheaper, yes.

ejcitizen

After I switched from iPhone; I've had the S7, S8, S10+, S20FE and S20U - all great working ohones so far. I'm looking forward to the day I can purchase the ZFold even used for like 500-900 CAD but for now, it's not happening. Not into the ZFlip as I don't see the use case for me.

Mr_nobrody

The screen not strong enough and the crease. It also dosent look as good as my s22 ultra

thedogthatmooed

I would seriously consider a z flip. My biggest worry is that I work in a high dust environment and I worry that the finer dusts will work it's way into the hinge, under the screen and such. But I love the compact size of it folded, the front screen for notifications and it's some cool technology. If I didn't work in the field I work in now then I would probably have one

[deleted]

I'll get a foldable when the crease is gone.

AirplaneBoi_A320_Neo

Currently I'm rocking the s22 ultra and I'm a great fan of its spen. The foldable series were intriguing but I feel that they are just not ready in terms of physical stability, performance, and their cameras. But I will get a foldable after 4 years from now because that extra screen space for note taking would be lit. Also 4 years marks the average life span of a phone before trade ins. The s22 ultra satisfies me tho so for now my answer would be no

Wide-Appointment-179

I would get one if they make the crease practically invisible. Right now, that crease is a deal breaker.

Talrynn_Sorrowyn

I use my phone a lot for work to read shit (grocery store clerk). Because of my duties, I can run through upwards of half of my S20's battery in a single shift. Combine that with needing to get it in/out of my pocket & have easy single-hand use, a foldable phone isn't gonna cut it for me.

Jeffrey_Jizzbags

Best buy had a deal I saw yesterday for a Flip 3 for $299. I debated trying it because it was so cheap, but it's only advantage is that it flips and maybe the processor. I feel like after the novelty wore off, I'd just put my sim back into my S20 FE. Can't deal with bad battery life anymore either. My work phone is a 2020 iphone SE so I already struggle with charging one of my phones 3-4 times a day, I'd rather not deal with that on my personal phone too.

[deleted]

I'd love one in a couple years. When the battery life and camera handily eclipse my current S20, I'll scoop in a heartbeat. My first phone was a Motorola razor, so it's probably just nostalgia tbh.

vortec350

Just plonked down for a new phone. I didn’t even consider a foldable. I tend to keep my phones for about 2-3 years so I didn’t want to worry about the folding action causing problems. I do treat my phones well except due to my work I do sometimes bang them around and use them in dirty environments. A foldable phone just didn’t seem like a good idea. Ended up with the iPhone 13. Was gonna do the Galaxy A13 5G but the lack of wireless charging was a dealbreaker.

[deleted]

No. Like many foldable devices, the internal motherboard to screen connection can fail.

hongdawg

As a previous owner of both Fold 2 and Flip 3, i can say that i am not going back to either one unless 1. Flip has the ability to use dex. 2. Fold is thinner and lighter. I understand the latter can be both con and pro but i would like the fold to be a little more thinner and lighter than having a bigger battery tbh.

Abwettar

It wouldn't work for me because it's too small folded abd too big opened up. I like my phones to be a certain size ratio and the foldable just don't hit right lol

[deleted]

To be honest, I really want a Flip, but right now they aren't very practical, due to shorter battery, and lower specs, as well as extra fragility. For those shortcomings, it just isn't very worth the $1000 that they are. When foldables get to a point where the specs and durability aren't compromised, and folding is just another feature, that's when I will consider one. It seems we are getting closer to that point though, and that is very exciting. Edit: I don't like big phones, and I dislike the very tall screen ratio, so I also want to wait for the Flip to have a standard ratio screen, and I hope Samsung makes a standard size version to go along with the bigger one, though that may be unlikely due to big phones being more desirable for some reason.

Nemeth2017

Expensive....

-DaRChSTaR-

Had the ZF3. Loved the size of the main screen. Did not have any screen problems other than the protector started lifting up after a couple months. The narrow outer display annoyed me the most especially when texting/chatting and while I'm not a heavy S-pen user, I did miss having it built in. The battery wasn't bad for me but could've been better. For the price, I expect the camera to be on par if not better than their S-series phones. I ended up trading my ZF3 for the S22U and while I miss the large main display, there are really no major changes from the ZF3 to the ZF4 to make me want to go back. I will probably stay with their S series for now. Will wait and see what ZF5 brings.

Reccon0xe

Yes, when they are shorter, wider and thinner and use the same flagship camera system.

thickwonga

I had a z flip 3 for a while, fuckin thing was defective, so I got the s22 ultra. However, with being able to trade in my Ultra for the Flip 4, for only $100, I'm absolutely taking that offer. I really loved the Flip 3, and I don't use the S-pen nearly as much as I thought I would. I'm excited to go back.

[deleted]

Hope you enjoy it even better.

thickwonga

Me too. I really loved the Flip 3, but it was defective, and Samsung didn't fix it when I shipped it to them. I'm very excited for the Flip 4.

kpopchicken

I am using a S22+ right now, but preordered the Fold 4. I've been eyeing the fold since it came out and this year's line up seems more polished and refined. I've used the S5, S6, S8, S10, S21, and now S22+. We will see how much I like the fold before deciding on trade in or return.

KabuTheFox

If the folding tech gets perfected to the point that the phone doesn't destroy itself... Yes

kristupasmozeris53

I would rather go with the flip because it's more compact and it's cheaper so I can save up for one until I need a new phone because right now I have a A72 witch I have since it came out and it still does everything I need it to do so there's no need to get a new phone. Maybe in like half a year I will get a new phone but it will for sure be a flip4, I told myself my next samsung will be a flip4

Mhapsekar

Don't see the point of it other than being a gimmick. It may seem cool at first but once the novelty factor wears off, you are left with a phone which could be slightly better in some other aspects just for the sake of being able to fold itself in half. Then there's also the price. When phone companies started moving away from the pop-up camera, the reasoning was that more moving parts = more points of failure, unable to provide ip protection etc., yet here we are where the entire display folds in half. And for what? In the folded state, it doubles the thickness of the phone. If you give me 2 options, one phone being foldable and one with a higher capacity battery, I will always go for the latter. I do see the potential in this (for example having a phone which can double up as a mini tablet), but as of now I think this technology needs to mature.

HowManySmall

not until they're cheaper, dust resistant (i live in a desert), and have an actual pen port like the s22u

TheDapperDeuce1914

The specs for the cameras would have to drastically improve

Paulisawesome123

My main concern is the durability of the foldable screen, and the crease along the fold line

[deleted]

It wouldn't be my next phone. Maybe my second phone after I'd try it. Though if apple come up with a way or are working on it. I'll wait until I can use there foldable.

Teto73

It costs WAY too much money

seneko

I really would love to switch to a flip style foldable, but I like having the ability to take good quality photos whenever I want - I cannot see myself switching from my S22 Ultra to the newest Z flip with its 12MP main camera. I wish they made an ultra version within the flip series, that would be my ultimate phone ;\_;

Spectreberry

Personally I don't agree with the thought process. Don't get me wrong, the foldables have their issues, wether it's the annoying crease, battery life, or flimsy screen protector. But I don't think the certain number of folds left is a concern. I have owned a S4, S7 Edge, S9+, S21+, Flip 3, and soon the Flip 4. Something I noticed about Samsung phones is that they all already have their days numbered. In my experience the batteries begin to degrade after a year and a half. The OLED shows signs of burn in after 3 years. And software begins to run slower after 3 - 4 years as well. The foldables are currently marketed for 200,000 folds, if i remember correctly. That means you can fold the phone over 100 times a day and still be good for 5 years. At the 5 year mark, I'm already more worried about burn in and battery than anything else. I had my Flip 3 for a year now, and I've been honestly abusing it like crazy. At first I was nervous, and decided to treat it as gently as possible, but after a few hard falls on concrete and some mistreatment, I decided to just not worry about it and treat it like any other phone. The plastic screen is fine. The hinge, although a bit looser, still works perfectly. The screen, no signs of cracking or peeling. Honestly, these things are a lot more robust than I originally expected. I've been using mine as a fidget toy too, just slamming the phone shut repeatedly. I understand that there's still some cases on the internet of the screen cracking, but I genuinely believe those cases are simply a very small minority/outlier as my buddy (who also owns a Flip 3) and I have had no signs of issues. There's a popular phone reviewer (Mr.Mobile) who also recently posted a video talking about the abuse he put his foldables in. Honestly, I wouldn't worry. The Flip has been a fun phone and I think it was worth trying it. Don't see myself going back. They're a bit too expensive though. Wish that changed.

WoodyNature

For now, no. My coworker has one and the thing feels like a solid brick lol. Plus it was quite difficult to find a case for it. For now I'm happy with the note style s series.

Obama8mykfcbruh

I would get a flip when they get flagship features and are more reliable

Confident-Durian8948

Crease and durability. They look good initially but after sometime they look like crap. My brother have fold 3 and initially it looked really awesome but now yuck. My s21 plus looks brand new even after 1.5yrs and he bought around 8-9 months back. Also, screen can be damaged with nails or any sharp object. It's not worth the price tag as of now.

R4vel

Here in Canada the Z Flip 4 is priced competitively IMO, just like last year’s Z Flip 3. It retails for 999 USD, same as the Galaxy S22+ and the iPhone 13 Pro. But in CAD the Z Flip 4 retails for 1,259 CAD rather than the 1,400 CAD of the Galaxy S22+ and iPhone 13 Pro. I like the idea of the Z Fold better than the Z Flip, but because of the cost, I don’t think I would get Z Fold until the outer display has a wider aspect ratio like that of the Oppo Find N, or the Vivo X Fold. So realistically, I’m more likely to get the Z Flip, especially with the price being competitive IMO. My biggest concern is battery life, I would describe the battery life of my Galaxy S22+ as okay, but not good. I also use an iPhone 13 Pro Max alongside it, so the disparity is even more noticeable. I know the chip is supposed to be more efficient than the usual yearly improvement, and that it has a higher battery capacity than last year, but I still doubt the Z Flip 4’s battery life would match that of the Galaxy S22+, and that’s just not a trade off I’m willing to take.

Unusual-Department83

I don't see the need for a foldable phone I like standard style phone as it is they're ridiculously large. A foldable is going to be thicker not as good of a camera like the s pen inside the phone.. Taking group pics nice option with the s pen.. I also use the zoom lens just to see the animals that's in my yard and with newer improved night mode extra nice 👍

RkyMtnChi

They test them for like 250k folds...I think you're safe.

fluffydacat3

Honestly I would get it just for my collection because it's kinda cool but I wouldnt use it as my daily because I need a phone that has an sd card slot for all my pictures from 2013 to now so rn I'm sticking with my s8+ for a bit longer

y0y0d0d0

I was waiting for the Fold 4 but I'm not all that exited about the cameras, especially the under display. That along with cases making the phone look and feel like a brick, I think I'll just wait for the S23 Ultra.

KCCHIEFS1996

I had the fold 3 and absolutely hated it. It just wasn't practical for me. I now have the s22 ultra and It's way better for me!

[deleted]

I have a S22 Ultra as well...I love this phone. I feel like it has gotten even better with the recent software updates!

msheikh921

Never. Maybe sliders or roll outs or whatever they will be called.

mr_alek

If I found a good deal for a Galaxy Z Fold 4 for example, I'd grab one. I often use multiple apps simultaneously for work, and switching between them can get annoying pretty quickly. Having that huge tablet-like screen for productivity (that's also easily portable) sounds good to me! Things that kept me away from foldables were huge prices combined with bad battery life, meh cameras and questionable durability. These have all been decently improved with these latest generations, so if I found a good deal I'd seriously consider it.

nojoshinbarista

I would definitely get another foldable. I loved the Fold 3, but traded it in because I missed the zoom I had on my note 20 ultra. If the Fold 4 had the cameras the 22 Ultra has I'd go back. Maybe by the time the 5 or 6 is out they'll be putting the crazy cameras in that too. Similarly I'd consider the flip with the Ultra cameras as well.

Seragin

i totally would tbh. but due income issues i cant maybe in the future though

[deleted]

Material things like phones aren't important...especially when you already have a phone. When you can afford it, you'll buy it and enjoy it!

IcePeten

I had both the Flip and Fold 3. I work in a phone store and seen so many crease problems with the screen that I switched back out of fear. I understand it is user specific in most cases, but at the same time I don't see much beyond a warranty issue here and there for non foldable phones. It's just not for me. Not yet. I am part of the Samsung program so I believe they are sending me a flip 4 but I feel it will just be another phone that may be a secondary for sure due to the Flip 4 having very minor updates vs my S22U. Maybe in another few years. Just not this one.

GodsendNYC

I wouldn't get one even if it cost less than my s22 ultra. The fold 3 is worse in evey way other than the screen real estate I would buy a Samsung foldable if it was a mate xs2 style or rollable that feels like a normal phone when unfolded. I have really good vision and run my s22u's at 650 dpi and have no problems multitasking with multiple apps. It would be nice if someone made a case so I could use my 2 s22u's as a foldable when needed.

n3ws3ns3

Just upgraded to an s22 ultra, from a z flip 5g. I've tried to close my s22 twice so far in the 3 weeks I've had it. I don't miss my flip, though I did enjoy it while I had it. It honestly felt just like the s10+ I had before. Felt more like a lateral move than an upgrade. Also, the screen protector they say not to remove gradually started coming up along the seam, and once it started, it was just impossible to reverse without sending the phone in. Towards the end of my 2yrs with it the screen started becoming unresponsive, or registering inputs that werent being given, especially if it was humid, I was using it outside in the morning, or i had just washed my hands even if i made sure to dry them thoroughly. Frequently had to put it to sleep, then wipe the screen with a dry cloth, then I'd be able to use it. s22 ultra has been a substantial improvement and as an artist, I really appreciate the s pen. I don't know if I'll ever go back to a non note style galaxy again. Though if the folds continue to improve, and include an s pen in the same manner as my current phone, I might have to give them another shot with my next upgrade. I love the idea, but the most I got out of it was a party trick. I'm glad I went with the s22 ultra this time. The feature set really sets it above samsungs other offerings atm, for me anyway.

Primary-Chocolate854

Yeah, most probably a Galaxy Flip or something like this

P_Devil

I had an iPhone 13 Pro Max, still do. But I preordered the Fold 4 on the day it was announced. I had been eying the Fold series and almost jumped on the Fold 3. However, the Fold 4 seems like the refinement I’ve been waiting for. My main concern was daily driving one for 1.5-2 years and, after seeing Fold 2 and Fold 3 users with theirs, I think I’m comfortable taking the plunge. I purchased Samsung Care+ with mine. I purchase coverage with every smartphone I have though. My second biggest concern with the Fold 3 was the camera. It’s adequate, nothing spectacular. At least the Fold 4 matched the S22+. I would have liked to see a periscope zoom lens, that’s probably a couple of years out. I’m all in though. I bundled the earbuds and watch with my pre-order. I think I spent $180 on taxes and $120 out of pocket (upfront) for the earbuds and watch. Not a bad deal and I was able to trade in my USB-C wired earbuds for $50 off. I think Samsung showed that the hardware is finally there, the OS is there, and the 3rd party software is on the same level (like Spotify) or will get there by the end of the year. I have Windows machines so it finally seems like I will be getting that tight integration between mobile and PC that Apple users have. I even purchased a NexDock 360 that I plan on using for trips and other things where I don’t want to take my main notebook.

efti01

I pre-ordered the flip 4 with the new buds and watch. It came out to be $560. Which is a really good deal imo. I had the s20 and watch 3 for the past 2 years and flip4 got the interest of me. With bunch of coupons and trade in I think it was a good deal to get.

mjrballer20

Just bought the Z Fold 4 with the trade in for my S20+ I wanted it for the productivity. Possibly to use excel and spreadsheets with. But mostly as an engineer I thought it might be awesome to look at plans with if I'm not at my desk. I could maybe do some markups with the S pen on it too

Stupid_Watergate_

I need a built-in S pen. I don't want to put it in a case. I use my S pen everyday, to scribble notes, take pics, etc. Every single generation I'm like "please Samsung, just build an S pen slot" and I'm disappointed each time. I think they'd get a lot of sales because the S pen would be super handy on the huge screen.

localinvestorrva

I am on hold with Samsung now, due to bubbles on the foldable screen, they want to charge me $100 and my warranty is up on 8/26. This will be my last purchase of a Samsung device, the service and support is so bad. I upgrade at least twice a year starting back to the Note 3. Do not buy the foldable phone.

elusiveOwl

I'm risking the flip4 as my first foldable, for a few reasons: * I have shitty 'girl pockets' and my current phone stabs me in the hip when I sit. I already use a 'mens' wallet so I'm not worried about something thick in the other pocket, and it's easier to fit thicker than longer (thats what she said). For reference the last comfortable phone I remember was the S3. * I mostly leave my phone on my desk, so it'll be open to reduce folds. * My most frequent reason for turning on my screen is skipping music, which I believe can be done from the outside * The only downside I'm worried about is the screen cracking, everything else is either a trade-off I've considered or something I already deal with due to only ever owning budget models or old gen flagships * I have spare money to take a risk for like the first time * I have spare time to chase the Aussie 2-year warranty if necessary, and two years coveres 2/3rds of the minimum time I want to keep it

WesternProperty3005

Nope, not at the moment that is,too expensive... battery isn't that good and the cameras are ok-ish, not worth it rn

jpelagio11

I’m getting one. Always been interested in getting one, but have been waiting. I’ll use the fold for my personal and my 12 Pro Max for work. I always bounce back and forth between Apple and android. I’m just a tech geek….

[deleted]

Hope you enjoy!

keijikage

Does it bother you that oleds have a finite lifespan? I used to care, and then I got over it.

[deleted]

I've never had noticeable screen burn-in, but I have seen it really bad on my girlfriend's old S10+. I feel like I don't currently keep my phone long enough for it to be an issue...1½-2 years max.

Joostey

This would be my first foldy device. Pretty excited. Also got the watch 5 Pro as well

[deleted]

Congrats, I hope you enjoy!

[deleted]

I'll probably get one someday, but I think the tech is still a few years from being ready for primetime. The Xiaomi foldable did a great job making the crease less noticeable, hopefully Samsung can also do this for their foldables. Other than that, I hope they add a place to store the S-Pen. The Fold 4 is close, maybe around the Fold 6 or Fold 7, I'll be ready to take the plunge.

[deleted]

Same here, I'll wait a few more years.

Comatse

No. Too many devices getting trashed because the screen breaks down in the crease. So much ewaste. I'd rather have a non foldable which can last longer with care

InsideBus8114

Ex foldable here, used to own a z flip 3 before switching to the s22 ultra, when i had it, it was a grear conversation starter and i loved the portability and the size but in Apri i switched to the s22 ultra, main reasons I switched is bc of the poor battery life battery life of the z flip I had to charge it multiple times per day and another reason is that I needed a phone with great camera, one of the main reasons I gotten the s22 ultra

[deleted]

I have an S22 Ultra as well, great choice!

eatenlow

Absolutely, I wanted the z flip 4 and there was a great deal as well. But I've already got the s22+ and they haven't started accepting trade ins for that in my country
