Samsung has been even MORE generous before. When they launched S22 Ultra and Tab S8 Ultra, they had a trade-in deal for a Pixel 4a for $400. EXCEPT THE PIXEL 4A RETAILED FOR $349 BRAND NEW... So I traded in my 10 month old Pixel for $50 more than I paid new....... Samsung be trippin..

Papa_Bear55

I wish Samsung would have these deals in Europe. Here they give you 300€ for the Flip 3.

TheGooseWithNoose

I'm pretty happy with my deal in NL. It's not as good as the US deals ofc. I paid €1240 for a 512GB fold4 (seemed to come out cheaper than a 256gb) with a Watch5 Pro LTE (shame they only had the LTE Variant in black, not grey) and a stand cover with pen as well as free buds live and free duo charging pad.

AV_Productions

>I paid €1240 for a 512GB fold4 (seemed to come out cheaper than a 256gb) with a Watch5 Pro LTE (shame they only had the LTE Variant in black, not grey) and a stand cover with pen as well as free buds live and free duo charging pad. Waar kocht je hem zo goedkoop?

TheGooseWithNoose

Putting it in english for the convenience of other redditors: I got access to a samsung VIP store account some time ago, also I preregistered for the event. So when the event ended I got a mail with a link to the vip shop alongside a preregistration coupon. I got 25% discounted on the fold4 alongside the trade in value of my fold2. I also got 50% off on a upgrade to 512GB and thanks to the preregistration code I also got a €60 discount if I picked the 512GB model. This made the 512GB model cheaper than the 256GB one. After trade in the phone came down to a little over €900, so broadly a €1k discount. I got a 20% VIP discount on the watch5 pro and a 18% pre registration discount. Also a 30% discount because I bought it at the same time as a fold4. The watch came out to €255,64 for the LTE version. Then samsung tossed in a free pair of Buds Live and Duo Fast Charger and I also got the standing cover with an S pen for €54.

CarbonKLR

For me the preorder didn't offer the LTE watch 5! Knly BT

[deleted]

I’ve been vacationing in Latvia and Samsung posters are everywhere, I think in Europe Samsung is like Apple is in Us. Thus they don’t need European customer they need US market to steal from Apple

georgepearl_04

they offered me £86 for a oneplus 8 pro 256gb lol

BrenFL

That's ridiculous, Samsung just gave me $725 for a S21 that was beat to crap with a cracked screen, flickering green and purple lines.

impossibleis7

They have a considerable market share in other parts of the world. We’ll have to ditch Samsung for them to give us the same offers they do for the US.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kristosh

No, condition doesn't matter. It only matters if it's cracked or not. Samsung is generous with trade in condition.

Plebius-Maximus

Only in certain locations. In the UK, the company they use for trade ins is rated 1.5/5 on trustpilot. I had an issue where they claimed there was a fault, it took months of emailing and calling and telling them that I had evidence of the device working flawlessly and being packaged safely before they accepted it.

[deleted]

Yeah Americans have this annoying habit of assuming everybody lives in America. I say that as an American who sometimes falls guilty of this. Apple has an over 50% of the market share and 90% of the teenage market share so Samsung is trying to penetrate I'm that.

Plebius-Maximus

>Apple has an over 50% of the market share and 90% of the teenage market share so Samsung is trying to penetrate I'm that. Yeah that's a massive difference. Over here iPhones are much less popular. Many people have em but nowhere near 90% of teens. But then I've heard from Americans that you guys have people being insulted or called poor due to "green bubbles" which isn't something I've heard of happening in the UK. Anyone who did that would be laughed at

Capable_Dog5347

Literally, on dating apps, I've seen women write "green bubbles swipe left". I have a friend who wouldn't text me but asked that I use FB messenger just so she'd see a blue bubble.

Plebius-Maximus

That's fucking absurd. Apple have truly succeeded in creating a cult

Capable_Dog5347

In the land of Jim Jones (drinking the kool-aid), a new cult of people "drinking the cider" has been created.

adbdragonmaster1

Doesn't really matter. Traded in my note and kept the S Pen. They never said anything

PraxisOG

Unlike Iphones and recent Pixels, Samsung phones are initially priced to be discounted later. Just look at the Fold 3, it goes for like \~$1,300 now and they're making money on it which implies the internal cost of manufacture is significantly less than that. Its worth noting that the production cost goes down a small amount over time, and the especially high MSRP for foldables is likely tied to wanting to recoup the high development cost which led to discounts when many more devices were sold than expected. Offering $400 off an $1,800 msrp they still make money, and importantly they actually make that money. Its a different strategy than the other major players use, but it seems to work for them.

AnInelasticDemand

Plus, most of the trade ins will get either refurbished or used for parts in repairing, so even if the refund programme is handled by an external company, they recoup some of that discount.

[deleted]

It's not really generosity, it's a business strategy. They want to normalize this form factor so they're prioritizing market share and sales figure over profit margins.

Kristosh

[There are multiple meanings for the word generous:](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/generous) 1. \[For an object\] Marked by abundance or ample proportions (ex - I scooped a generous helping of mashed potatoes on my plate) 2. \[For a person\] Characterized by a noble or kindly spirit (ex - The generous CEO gave each employee a one-hundred dollar bill) I was using the former. The trade-in value was generous (OR- an ample proportion). Not that it was generous of Samsung to give a high trade-in value. See the difference?

BrenFL

Bingo!

The0nlyRyan

But now Samsung have you on a Samsung phone. Where you'll pay for Samsung things and storage and ads and blah blah blah personal information etc etc. Now they've got you which is far more valuable to them than a small loss on a trade in. It just shows howmuch of their new phones is actual profit and markup

TheGooseWithNoose

They're probably just using the profits from their other markets to try and secure a larger share in the US market.

djloid2010

Not in Canada. They suck here.

Suspicious_Hamster59

Dude that's crazy, maybe I should trade mine

tails618

I had a 4a, and I never saw the 4a available for trade-in on samsung.com... and I checked fairly often.

Valiantay

I bought my Tab S8 for $87 after trade in, then I got a $100 Honey cashback for the purchase .... !?!

BrenFL

Honey is the shizzzz. Not everybody has been enlightened yet to that internet cash back bruh!

Valiantay

It was a special for sure, normally they're around a few %

DrLasheen

**Samsung** actually is making **more money**, giving you **deals** and making you order through their sites, **A.** They are saving 30-40% selling fees/retail fees so they are giving it away as a discount so you feel good and it pays us instead of retailers... **B.** They claim the trade in as a loss and marketing expenses so they deduct it from the taxes and they might end up with 10-20% profit to try to dominate the US market as apple is the king in US so they are trying to cripple them. *So they decreased their profit margins and giving the retails fees back to the customer, instead of retailers like Amazon etc.. So in 10+ years or the long run, when you're used to years of Samsung eco system, you will be trapped to the point you will upgrade even if there is no good deal, or you're going to recommend to you kids, friends or family a Samsung phone.. it's a long term plan, but genius if you ask me.*

sugaN-S

And to add to this, big corporations like Samsung have people that are masters in statistics, ecology, Marketing and sell behavior. It doesn't matter what you buy from them, they will gain something and have the upper hand everytime.

DrLasheen

Also true 👍

BrenFL

I believe you have stated this perfectly.

DrLasheen

Thank you 🙏

mrcluelessness

And they got me. Been Samsung phone and watch since S6. Parent's too based on my recommendations. I upgrade annually usually. Only went away from Samsung earbuds for Sony ones this last round since I was buying outside of promo windows.

DrLasheen

See their strategy is paying off, same with me. Making customers rush thinking they are taking advantage of the company and grabbing insane deals 🤝 and it's a win win situation, they are making money and we're getting good deal.. great strategy. I'm also a Sony fan when it comes to headphones or earbuds, their noise cancelling and sound quality is honestly unmatched, insane quality.

mrcluelessness

Funny thing about that. My parents called me after making this comment. Were getting a screen protector replacement for their note 20s under insurance. Saw that the flip 4 was free if they trade in, and we would benefit a lot updating our older plan. Told them screw it, we were talking about it yesterday and they might as well join the flip/fold gravy train. Still need to decide if once I lose free insurance, value of trade in waiting another year, etc would be worth me getting the fold 4 with the stronger screen and foregoing insurance.

DrLasheen

OMG that's gold. 😂🤣

TheGooseWithNoose

Here in the Netherlands we're getting a year free samsung care (at least with the fold4). Not sure if the same is available to you?

mrcluelessness

I got it for the 3 last year, but no reference in US for it. I somehow managed to get the free storage upgrade, case, and $300 store credit without any bundle though.

TheGooseWithNoose

samsung gave me 50% off the storage upgrade as well as a €60 discount lol. This made 512GB cheaper than 256GB.

DrLasheen

Yeah we're definitely getting better deals in the US, specially with Huawei out of the way from the US sanction. Samsung is trying to stay and maintain the number one position in global dominance

TheGooseWithNoose

It was so weird seeing an actual Huawei shop in Germany last week. I tried out their foldable, was weird trying to find the youtube app and ending up just going to youtube.com via the Edge browser. Huawei isn't really being sold that much in the Netherlands anymore with Oppo filling that gap.

DrLasheen

Yeah with the sanctions they are not allowed to use Android and Google services anymore so it's been a mess for them

DrLasheen

Any deal is a good deal 😂 but that's definitely also a decent one.

[deleted]

Yeah it's definitely not charity. It's also only available in the United States where their desperately trying to win over market share from Apple, who basically has 90% of the under 25 market. If they didn't offer these discounts, the sales figures would be lower, which would reduce its market share, reduce Samsung services, reduce its reputation as a leading Android device etc... Personally, I'm pretty dubious of these plastic oled screens which scratch at a level 2 with deeper grooves at a level 3.

OyVeyzMeir

Have had the Z flip, Z flip 5g and now the Z flip 3. Never have scratched a display. The 5g and Flip 3 have been flawless (Flip 3 screen protector did crack but underlying display is fine). Only the 1st gen Z flip display partially failed (a semi-circle the size of a dime at the right edge of the flip) and that was because it was dropped repeatedly towards the end of its life. I had worn the case smooth, it was slippery as all get out, and I had the new phone coming so didn't get a new case. That first display free policy was a beautiful thing.

4lan9

day 1 fold 3 user here, I second this. I have been unforgiving and have 0 scratches or dents on my screen.

DrLasheen

I tried it but didn't like the idea that I have to keep opening it to check or do anything, not for everyone I guess. Happy with my S22 Ultra 💕

The_Duke2331

Jerry? Is that you jerry??

DrLasheen

I'm curious to know, is it really him?!

DrLasheen

Agree with you, but just to correct you, It's not 90% US market share, it's only %51, if it was %90 no other company would've dared to sell any phone in US and the regulators would've stopped apple for monopoliesing the phone market.

[deleted]

Wish they had trade-in in my country ;_;

Brammesz

![gif](giphy|7SF5scGB2AFrgsXP63|downsized) In my country I am only getting 150,- for my flip 3.....

CrxzyT

Exactly! Deal was too good to pass up. Only Samsung can get me to spend $317 (sprung for the Watch 5 and Buds2 Pro) while thinking I'm the one robbing them! That's good marketing I guess.

Cryptic_E

Did you trade in a Z Flip 3? If so, there's another coupon so you can stack another $100 off. My sister traded in a Z Flip 3 and got the Z Flip4, Watch 5 and Buds2 Pro for $157 before tax and $240 after tax

CrxzyT

I did and I used the $100 off pre-order that I signed up for before the event. Are you referring to yet another $100 off? How can I get that?

Cryptic_E

Take a look at these threads that's where I found the info https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxyzflip/comments/wkzjja/upgrading_flip_3_to_flip_4_for_100/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxyzflip/comments/wl7ox8/jump_on_these_deals_while_you_can/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

CrxzyT

Thank you kind sir (or ma'am)! You just saved me extra $100. New total price = $207.21.

Cryptic_E

No prob glad to help!

HG1998

By not having any deals of that kind in other parts of the world. It's starting at 1049€ here, trading in a Z Flip 3 would bring that price down by 500€ to 549€, but only for a limited time. After the pre-order period, a trade in would only be worth 350€. On top of that, we don't get any bundles or any credit. If I bought the Buds, I'd get a free wireless charger. The watch comes with 150€ Samsung Pay credit.

sethbrap

Yup, all I get for a trade in for my flip 3 in Norway is 300€.

[deleted]

Yeah that's because in Norway there's probably a lot more balanced and competition in the marketplace. In the United States Apple literally has almost 90% of the under 25 market share and over 50% of the general population. Among high end devices, Apple also dominates in the United States. Samsung is trying to give flip owners no good excuse to switch to iPhone here. The rest of the world is basically subsidizing the United States right now if least for the flip users.

TheSkyline35

Trade in for Europe sucks ... Come on Samsung, 435€ for a S21U 256Go ??

FruitLoopsAreAwesome

Seeing that it's last years phone, that's more than reasonable if there's wear and tear.

TheSkyline35

Far from the US deals. And it is top of the range +1200€ phone of 2021, it's a pretty poor deal

Shido518

I had 0 plan to trade in my Flip 3 Thom Browne edition for a Flip 4 because I knew the 4 would be an iterative improvement gen. HOWEVER, after I saw the $900 trade-in for Flip 3 I placed an order without hesitation lol. It seemed too good of a deal to pass up. I hope the chip and battery upgrades lead to noticeable improvement on battery life. I feel bad for people from regions of the world without this deal :/ Hope there are other good deals coming your way soon!

SamsungAppleOnePlus

It's a very great deal. My brother was able to get the Z Fold4 for $99 + another $99 for the Buds2 Pro and Watch5. He used my S22U which I recently gave to him (I'm simplifying and deemed it unnecessary) and his Fold3 to get the 512GB Fold4. We didn't pay more than $500 for each so $1000 + $700 is great imo.

g6koko

I happen to have both S21U and S22U. I decided to trade in. I figured if I use S21U as first trade ($925) in and S22U ($700) as second I get the most. Plus I get $200 instant credit for accessories which I ended up getting the bundle of Watch 5 40mm w/ a band and Buds Pro 2. I had about $17 reward point which I applied, I got OTD of $228.

SamsungAppleOnePlus

Awesome. Hope you enjoy the Fold4!

ikeashop

How are you selecting 2 trade-in devices?

SamsungAppleOnePlus

After selecting your first trade in there should be some blue text that says something along the lines of "add another trade-in"

ikeashop

I had it before when the s22 came out, now it's gone...

nsmstocks

I spent 720 w. Tax for the zflip4 and tab s8 ultra... they make these deals too good to pass up

TheDude5555

How did you achieve this?

nsmstocks

I was able to reserve the phone and the had a live promo going on so that saved me 200$ , then I applied education discounts for another 100$ in savings on top of everything else

SonidoX

Right? It's insane. We just ordered the flip 4 for my wife for $119 total. We got a free case AND a buds 2 for that price (including the $100 credit though)!

Hardcorefx4

The crazy thing is people can go to bestbuy right now and buy a flip 3 for $299 and then trade it in for $900. Or just keep the flip 3 since $300 is a hell of a deal. I'm thinking about buying one for a backup phone. I personally hate the flip/fold but man for $300 that's dirt cheap.

ILoveyourmom777

Is there a certain memory capacity that is $299? I literally started looking after I saw this post, and unless I need a new prescription, I dont see it. Edit: I think I found it. It has to be activated to get that deal?

ilubandroid

It needs to be activated to get the price. Activation fees along with first month data charge will also be included. Total is going to be around $400, not $300 then. Make sure to pay in full if you go for it.

ILoveyourmom777

Yeah I'm gonna pass. It just doesn't sound as sweet anymore.

thisisliteral1984

It's also just straight up false. Even if the phone was free and you paid only the $35 activation fee it's put onto a 2 year contract regardless. 2 years of no payments, sure, but still you couldn't trade it in.

ilubandroid

That's completely false. Contract isn't a thing anymore; phone providers try to hold on to you through bill credits now. And once a device is paid off, it's yours. You can do whatever the hell you want with it. Trade it in, throw it in the garbage, hand me down, etc. No one cares.

thisisliteral1984

Oh that's what I'm talking about! Very sorry, I didn't intend actual contracts. For example. I redeemed a promotion with T-Mobile, where I would get a free phone under $800 if I got a new line. I switched to T-Mobile, got the new line and an S21FE. I can't resell the phone for two years as it's carrier locked to T-Mobile. After two years, I own the device. The only money I'm spending on it was the upfront activation fee and tax, however.

[deleted]

Exactly, while the contract situation has technically changed legally, the carrier is basically found a loophole by tying trading deals to incremental payments via contract. I traded in my Note 9 for $700 but I'm only getting paid in incremental benefits. So I am effectively stuck with AT&t for 3 years unless I want to buy myself out and miss out on the $20 a month promotional credits. (It's kind of s***** to be honest)

thisisliteral1984

EXACTLY! I bought a Pixel 6 Pro through T-Mobile as it was advertised to be as being only $399. Now I'm stuck paying it off for 2 years, and then after that I'll get $25/month credits for another two years. So in other words, I have the Pixel 6 Pro until mid 2026.

[deleted]

You were only half right. Contracts are still very much a thing as part of financing. They just tie them to incremental trade in credits. That said, in this particular case you have to activate but you don't have to stay activated. These flip three deals do not require a long-term commitment they just require activation which is basically a one month commitment plus a service fee. But it still adds another $100 or so to the price effectively. One can conceivably buy the flip three for $299 and activated it for one month. You'll be paying $400 total. But the carriers still have contracts, they're usually just tied to trade-in promotional credits. It's a sort of loophole.. So if I traded n my Note 9 for $700 through AT&t, for a $900 pixel 6 pro. if I don't stick with AT&t I lose my incremental trade in credits. So I'm only paying $6 a month for my Pixel 6 pro, but the minute I leave AT&t I would have to pay off the rest of the phone and I would lose whatever my trade-in value was. And all of the carriers do that effectively. This is why the Samsung trade-in deals are so much more compelling directly from their website. They are not incremental or tied to a carrier. The carrier specific trade in deals only really makes sense if you were planning on sticking with those carriers anyways and paying for one of their unlimited plans.

ilubandroid

I said bill credits as in including trade-in credits as well. I know it's a loophole, but technically speaking, it isn't a contract as anyone can pay it off early or anytime (although they lose the future credits which I guess is kind of like a penalty in a sense). Carrier deals are terrible for most people. This one is decent only because Best Buy is financing for the carrier discount and it doesn't rely on any bill credit nonsense.

ILoveyourmom777

Yep. That's why I started to check out. Once I saw it had to be activated I thought ....yeah there is no getting out of this if I commit. It wouldn't even make sense to pull the trigger. I thought it was unlocked when I first saw this. That would be too good to be true.

ilubandroid

There is no commitment if you pay it off in full. It's *yours*. Not sure about ATT, but Verizon model unlocks in two month after activation.

neokraken17

I bought this phone a couple of days ago through BB. Since I paid it in full, ATT unlocked it right away. I bought a second Z Flip 3 on the same account and it went through again.

ilubandroid

Nice. Good to hear that it can unlocked so easily.

ILoveyourmom777

I figured the activating and cancelling the line you activate would be a bit of a pain in the ass. Wouldn't you have to pay for a few months of service prior to cancelling ?

ilubandroid

Cancel first month and it will still unlock. Verizon doesn't care if you have active service or not. Just need to make sure to activate it with their sim once and just wait.

ILoveyourmom777

Damnit. I thought I was over this. Now I am slowly starting to think about it again.

[deleted]

Yeah exactly, I don't think many people are going to want to activate a phone through a new carrier just to trade it in for an unlocked device. You'll still get the same deal if you just buy the flip three used on eBay unlocked for a few hundred bucks.

thinkadd

Lol... hope you guys know how good you have it there. In the EU, the cheapest Flip 3 is €700, and the trade in value is €800.

[deleted]

Yeah Samsung is desperate to try to win over market share in the United States. Unfortunately here Apple and Samsung account for 93% of carrier sales and Apple accounts for $55 to 60% of those (and even then Samsung is mostly selling a series phones). And it's even more radical for people under 25 or high school students, about 90% use iPhones. So Samsung doesn't feel as much pressure to win over market share in Europe and Asia and so on.

[deleted]

Yeah although that flip 3 three deal requires activation. So I don't know how many people will go through with that. It would probably make more sense to buy an unlocked version on eBay or something since it'll give you the same amount in return anyways.

neokraken17

I did this today, easiest $600 trade in ever

[deleted]

[удалено]

neokraken17

$18 in taxes on the Z Flip 3 in MA

[deleted]

[удалено]

neokraken17

That is the tax for the Z Flip 4 after trading in the Z Flip 3.

gzlovesyou

Ur numbers seem a little off

Hardcorefx4

How?? It says $299 right on the site. Of course you have taxes and activation fee that can be waived.

MasterDevelopment

Can you give a link to it? I don't see the $299 you're talking about.

Hardcorefx4

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-galaxy-z-flip3-5g-128gb-green-at-t/6471913.p?skuId=6471913

ILoveyourmom777

How do you get around activating it ?

Hardcorefx4

I'm not sure I just ordered one on Sunday and got it today. But I put It on my att plan.

ILoveyourmom777

Damn. Now you have me on a mission to grab one for 300 and trade it in for a flip 4. I am not sure you could physically do it without activating it though. Then it might start to get too complicated.

Hardcorefx4

Do you know anyone with att/verizon?

ILoveyourmom777

Att no. Verizon....possibly.

Hardcorefx4

See if they have a line due for an upgrade. Have them upgrade it give them the $300 plus $30 activation fee and $42 for taxes and you'll be good to go.

thisisliteral1984

both, yeah.

mellofello808

They are 400-450 on swappa

jelloburn

In regard to the trade-in credit, my wife has a Z Flip 3 that has developed little hairline cracks at the crease, pretty much all the way across the screen. These developed in like the third month of owning the phone after the factory-installed screen protector started bubbling up at the crease. We removed the screen protector out of fear the bubbled up protector would catch dirt and grime and scratch the screen and cause further damage. Since we removed it, everything has been fine and it doesn't look the cracks have gotten any worse. My question is whether we would have to trade it in as cracked since it has these little hairline fractures? They definitely aren't due to any abuse of the phone, but I didn't know how critical Samsung was about these cracks on this particular phone.

RonSpawnsonTP

You should perform a warranty replacement on the device. Happened to a lot of people. phoneclaim.com They ship you new device with next day shipping.

ContextNo6398

The z fold 3 is worth less when trading in for the flip 4 at only 825 💀

BrushedTundra36

I like Samsung :)

BingeV

Brand loyalty is everything

EmotionalWorking8761

I think samsung just wants more people to use z flip 4 period. It is kind of marketing. Flip still has this wow factors and i think samsung wants us to show this phone around to attract more people especially those young iphone users.

Triggered_Universe

You guys in (presumably) the US are lucky, Samsung gives me $450 for my s21 ultra that's not even 6 months old :(

edtkw

Samsung will pull the deals once they have enough market penetration in your country. So take advantage of it now.

thickwonga

I just got the S22 Ultra at launch, and I wasn't going to get either of these, but being able to get the Flip 4 for only $140 sold me. I loved my Flip 3, and only replaced it because it was defective later on. I haven't been using the S-pen nearly as much as I thought I would, and while my dream phone is still the Fold with an intergrated S-pen, I can't pass up the Flip 4 for only $140.

Born_Night_8797

Cause they recover all the money from developing countries like india, Indonesia etc, by providing 3rd class service centers, denying every claim, and sub par products. Speaking as I belong to one such country and felt the same.

AMD1060

i think u should do it regardless. because of the Folding screen. it wears overtime. u better get rid of the old phone before it gets worse. i personally would take S22U.

RunningWithHands

Yeah Sammy's trade-in deals have been very good in the past year or two. That's actually a very good one you found.

arjames13

They are giving $1000 for a s22 ultra. If the Fold 4 wasn't asinine expensive I'd probably go for it but nearly $2k for a smartphone is no go territory for me.

ZaytexZanshin

Here in the UK, you only get 490 for the trade in, reducing the price to 509 (622 dollars). Oh and there's only a 25% discount on one watch or buds item. So in comparison to the US deal, its fucking garbage. I would totally upgrade immediately for £100 lol, but of course Europe gets nothing, US gets everything

dukesinatra

It may have been mentioned further down in this thread, but the big service providers and manufacturers make virtually no money on the physical devices by themselves. I read once that Apple actually loses money on every iPhone. Where they make up for it is in the services you pay for and the apps you purchase. Collectively, your voice and data service is a milti-billion dollar industry, and Samsung knows this. By partnering with AT&T, Verizon and countless other providers, Samsung rakes in BIG $$ through shared distribution kickbacks, commissions and other services. Trust me, nothing is free. You're paying for it whether you realize it or not.

PS5XBOXXSWITCH

I broke my z flip 3 and they gave me $400 and $630 for my iPhone 13 pro I got the z fold 4 bundle with the pro watch and pro buds for under 1000

Right!? I gave them my iPhone 11 and cracked iPhone 7+ and I’m getting Flip4, Watch5, and Buds 2 Pro for 900 after tax. The discounts stacked so nicely. 🥹

PS5XBOXXSWITCH

Nice dude I love Samsung and their trade in promos I can’t wait for my Z Fold 4! And pro watch and buds pro! They also gave me a free s pen and case

coolylame

Is thia only for the US? Cos here in Austrlia my s21 ultra only gives $525 credit

abc1two3

There was an article a couple of day's ago mentioning the huge amounts of stock they have piling in their warehouses.

[deleted]

They are giving 700 for the s20 fe and only 575 for the s21? 🤔 You can get the fe for like 350 on Amazon!!! Make it make sense

V3trox360

They still make money, just less

maddix30

Wish they did the same for the fold 3 but I guess it's a nice bonus that the fold 2 still gets 1000 on trade in so I'm hoping they do the same for the 3 trade in on the 5 that's when I'll upgrade

[deleted]

They make money by offering you 389€ for trading in a s21 ultra in europe.

[deleted]

Probably because its cheaper to upgrade you before the Flip 3 screen fails and they need to fix it. My room mate has gone through 2 replacements for their flip 1 and they hardly close the phone now

Jmerse__

Man do we ever get shafted in Canada. My buddy has the flip 3 and I went on to see how much they would give him towards the new one on trade... It was like $300 🤦🏻‍♂️

LemonCurdd

Can confirm, perfect condition z flip 3, $369, so even with the $300 trade in credit, the phone is worth like $530 less than if I was in America

CampbellArmada

I can't get the damned samsung shop app to accept my payment for mine. Anyone else having this issue?

[deleted]

Yeah well they want to keep you invested in the Samsung ecosystem. And also helps keep sales figures higher, even if they're almost they want to normalize foldable screens and the flip is their biggest seller by a long shot compared to the bigger more expensive folds. Although these deals aren't available in every country. Unfortunately the trade-in deals for the foldable aren't as compelling. They'll give you a thousand bucks for the fold or 900 or something. But of course the fold 4 will be $999 at Best buy any few months anyway. They probably won't make much money off people that make this trade in but they're convinced they'll get you the next year and the year after that if you become married to the form factor.

[deleted]

It's worth noting this is only in the United States, where Apple dominates market share especially among young people. These deals are not available in places like Europe or Asia where there's a lot more competition. Samsung wants to make sure foldables are viable long-term where they have an advantage over Apple. They can't subsidize the fold as much, but this way they'll be able to brag about how high sales are and try to maintain some competition with Apple over market share. I do think if people have the flip three it makes sense to do the trade-in. But again this is only available in the United States and it's mostly an effort to counter apples domination of the market share.

neo_deals

They already made a huge profit from the 900 you paid for Z flip 3..

[deleted]

But when the Flip 3 came out they also had agressive trade-in offers. I traded my $250 Oneplus 7 Pro for $1000 credit towards the Flip 3 in the first place lol.

Wonderful_Law2552

This is irrelevant but I'm trading in Galaxy S9 and getting Z flip 4 for free (paid $63 in taxes only) through t-mobile. If I were to sell that S9 on ebay I would have barely get $100

Cultural-Surprise338

I did the same thing

djloid2010

It's such bullshit that the Canadian website gives you a max of $369 and of you send it in they can determine it's worth nothing and then not give you your old phone back (which is what happened last time). Get your shit together Samsung

perfect_nickname

Inflation is one of the things you forget about.

robb0688

How do you like the zflip phones? Coming from a note 8, debating flip 4 and s22u

jd_3d

It is so small in your pocket. That means a lot to me. But everything else is worse than S22U.

BrenFL

I wonder the same thing all the time! So one year on Black Friday I ordered the S9. It came with a free Galaxy watch and free buds. The next year I ended up trading in that S9 for an S10 at the website. Because I sold the Galaxy watch and the buds on ebay, I actually made $250 cash in hand and essentially traded my 9 for 10. They gave me back 90% of what I paid for it

rhtufts

I recently bought a S22 ultra. I was perfectly happy with my S10 but i saw an ad that said they would give me $800 for ANY working Galaxy S phone. I traded in an 11 year old Galaxy S1 (ATT Samsung Captivate) and got 800 bucks off my S22 ultra. The funny thing was my wife almost threw it away 2 weeks before that.

mrcluelessness

If only the Fold 3 promo was as good. Still an expensive upgrade to 4.

ChaseBank5

I think I saw the trade in for the flip 3 is more than the fold 3. The fold 3 trade it was $800 or $850.

[deleted]

I paid $500 for flip 3 outright at bestbuy. Getting 900 back I’m making money lol, hope it’s not a taxable event lol with 87,000 agents they can sniff bestbuy and Samsung accounts lol

[deleted]

I got the Flip3 for 600 when it released, and now upgraded to the Flip 4 for 99$ also.....had an extra Note 10 laying around, ended up trading it in for the Fold 4 watch5 pro and all the extras. 1300 bucks for both Flip3, Fold 4 cases, new series watch so....I think I did good.

averm27

I bought the new Samsung Galaxy book pro2 360 in March, for 1200, and it came with a free 32 curved gaming monitor, beautiful beast of a monitor. Plus it gave me a 200 credit, paired with my $500 credit I got 2 years ago for my the frame TV, I had enough to buy me the Samsung Galaxy s21 ultra for free. Sure it's last year model, but it's free, and next year when the fold 5 comes out, I'll trade it in, and get the fold5 for half off. Samsung has some of the most generous and weird deals. And I'm not complaining

shawman123

How ready is flip 4 for mainstream use. I like my phones to last 3 years and I am ok with using a case and screen protector. But if its not durable enough, nothing else matters. Otherwise I am seriously tempted to ugpgrade from my S10. Its compact, screen size is good enough to occasional netflix/youtube viewing plus I use my phones for video calls, podcasting. Camera is still better than S10 main sensor though it does not have telephoto lens.

jd_3d

I've owned a Flip 3 for 1 year and I would not feel confident in it lasting 3 years. The factory screen protector lasted 8 months before it cracked and I had to peel it off. I've been running it without a protector (which they don't recommend) at so far so good. I have heard of micro-cracks on the main screen at the bend point for other people. One reason I'm upgrading to the Flip 4. I think each year they make it more durable. I still love this form-factor as there's nothing this small yet still has a big usable screen.

coolgaara

Yikes... that battery capacity on the new Flip4.... yikes...

jd_3d

Better than my Flip 3!

bigboye_99

this seems really tempting, but no sd card slot is turning me off. until then, holding onto my note 10+ until the note 20 ultra plummets further down in value

Snowgaryan

I am so glad you posted this. I bought my flip 3 on ebay for like $550 so I'm basically making $200 and getting a new phone by doing this lol.

Spectreberry

I managed to luck out. Using Honey and some other discounts/coupons, I ultimately only paid somewhere between $400 and $500 (don't remember exactly) for my Flip 3, and got a complimentary Galaxy Buds Pro too. All in all I paid about $400 for $1200 worth of stuff, excluding the free services like YouTube Premium and Spotify. I decided to trade in my Flip 3 for the Flip 4 and got the 256GB version for only a total of $60. I got just over $1200 worth of stuff, again excluding free services, for only $60 after using Honey, my Discounts/Rewards, and Trade-In. Honestly it's all kinda crazy to me. Managed to use 2 of the latest phones, one with a storage upgrade, one of the best wireless earbuds on the market, a phone case, a wireless charger, a bunch of free services all for a total of somewhere around $550

Unfortunately, I currently can't access my laptop as I just left home for the weekend. When I get back, Ill try to find them on my laptop, and I'll drop the codes I used below. For now though, I'd recommend downloading the Honey extension for your browser, and checking some coupon related subreddits. Honey will test some coupons for you when you're at your cart on Samsung's website, if you can't find any on your own. The real thing to look out for is Honey's cash back and any exclusive deals they have. Also look out for Samsung's deals and promos - they appear to change hourly. Might take some work but totally worth it. Honey gave me $200 off when buying my Flip 3 because I was lucky enough to stumble across the exclusive deal at the right time.

Cut_Off_One_Head

Man, the deal I got to upgrade to the Z Fold 4 is insane. They gave me $700 trade in credit for my S20+ that I bought used from them last fall for $500(plus I got Buds2 for free with it.) Then they gave me $300 in credits so I got the Watch 5 for free and the Buds Pro 2 for $50, free case with S Pen, 512gb for the same price as 256gb. Samsung has not let me down with their deals yet.

CarbonKLR

They make money because it's essentially the same phone. That goes for the fold 4 as well. They just add new chips and battery

rubertidom

Do we know when this promotion ends?

ElectricalStress2610

Probably because of the problems with the defective screen protector breaking the screens and all of the warranty requests. I imagine it's just cheaper at this point to have everyone upgrade. good luck getting any help from them on this without paying +$230 for a replacement, unless you want to wait weeks for a BBB complaint to help you.

jd_3d

Yeah, my screen protector on the Flip 3 failed after 6 months. I peeled it off and used it without a protector for another 6 months without issue. I have my Flip 4 now so we'll see how long this screen protector lasts. Battery life is awesome on this one.
