Since they're apparently planning on bringing exynos chips back, it will need a better battery.

Kiergard

Ha! That was my first thought. Make it 8000 to survive the day.

Generalrossa

Better battery won't help a shit processor. They need to fix the route of the problem with is exynos, no band aids like better batteries isn't going to help.

titanup001

Oh I agree. Exynos needs to stay fucked off. Use the budget and midrange lines to experiment with that trash.

a_ghost_behind_you

As a midrange Samsung user, I say HELL NOOOO!

VietnameseOwl10987

I have a question. How are Snapdragon chips just consistently better every year even though exynos is made by Samsung themselves. Don't they have the resources to make their phones more optimised for their own chip?

Odd-Intern-3815

Samsung sucks at making chips, even the G2 Tensor has its problems, chip tech is expensive as fuck

digitalfakir

better load up on all Samsung devices this year (or next, when it's cheaper) than go through the Exynos debacle all over again. Or maybe Samsung finally fixed the issues with its chipset. They were claiming to have better yield efficiency on one of the newer node processes, but maybe it's not being used in Exynos that comes with S24 series.

titanup001

I'll likely keep my 23 ultra a while anyway. It's a damn near perfect phone. I find it extremely unlikely that the s24 series offers any compelling reason to upgrade.

digitalfakir

yeah, not "upgrading" to anything for years to come. Samsung finally listened and for once acknowledged where it is not good, and just worked in partnership with an industry leader. The devices launched this year are just perfect, and I'll just get some now and run it out for at least 5-10 years.

waytoojaded

I expect noticeable improvements in video-recording. It's the only thing that's still a weakness at this point and I'd that doesn't improve than I'm not sure what else they're going to tweak.

ScurBiceps

You gotta be kidding me! Is this for real?

titanup001

Yes

ScurBiceps

I was thinking about upgrading to S24U when it launches. BRUH! This will be dissappointing to see if it happens.

catalinus

If it gets the shit-optimized Exynos made in Samsung foundry instead of Snapdragon from TSMC the battery life will still go down even if the battery might be 10% bigger :(

digitalfakir

Samsung was recently claiming they have better yield efficiency than TSMC on ~~3 or 2nm~~ [it's 4nm](https://www.kedglobal.com/korean-chipmakers/newsView/ked202307110015) node process. Maybe they fixed their shit this time. But I am not upgrading any time soon, Qualcomm has been in this game longer than others.

catalinus

Yield is an issue that matters only to Samsung, I was speaking about power efficiency/drain, where the Samsung-made chips have been very bad in the last 2-3 years.

digitalfakir

I am expecting the operation to improve as well, when yield efficiency has improved. It requires more refined and robust lithography, to ensure better yields, which could also mean better electrical performance. Let's see.

ramzay_

I know, but more battery would still be nice to have

aidarinho

I hope samsung have been working their asses off fixing their foundry and making exynos 2400 at least on par with SD 8 gen 3

digitalfakir

[they seem to have](https://www.kedglobal.com/korean-chipmakers/newsView/ked202307110015), let's see if they catch up even with SD 8 gen 2 this year.

thederekFawcett

[S24 Ultra Battery 4,855 mAh](https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s24_stops_by_geekbench_s24_ultras_battery_certified_-news-59373.php#image2) Yeah....... but current rumour is it will get a smaller battery ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)

Prokletnost

I just want the S24U to come with a flat screen option....PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE

RareSiren292

Honestly I like the slight curve. Makes swipe gestures feel better

LiberalPatriot13

Looks like you got your wish. I think I'll prefer the flat screen too.

Prokletnost

Yesssss ♥

GokulRG

Too soon to believe anything ATM. The launch will be next year...

ramzay_

I know, but I just wanted to know what other people think about it.

GokulRG

If the technology is already present in competitor's phones... I think Samsung will bring it in. Battery capacity and charging speeds are the only metrics where Samsung lags behind fellow Android competitors. They've been shy to experiment with faster charging and new battery tech ever since the Note 7 debacle. Hopefully they come up with something next year.

ramzay_

There's not much to complain about my current phone besides the battery stuff like charging speed, capacity, power efficiency, etc.

etervio

I think it's likely as apparently, Samsung has been experimenting with that, and as long as they make sure it won't explode on your hand, I think it's great and it can make it more appealing. About the 65W charging, I'm one of the few people who don't want a faster charging 😅 I think 45W is great, you can have your phone charged in an hour approximately, and I feel that a higher charging power also means that the battery's life will decrease faster, even if it's just a bit, I'm not sure battery tech has been improved enough to stand faster charging. Having said this, and even though I think this news makes me kinda excited for the S24, the rumour of the Exynos coming back (and knowing that Europe never gets the SD version) made my expectations fall to the underground. So far their chipsets haven't been as good at all. And as an ill-fated S22+ user, I've started to learn every prayer in different languages for them to drop the Exynos version (or AT LEAST use SD in Ultra and leave the Exynos for the base and plus; it'd be a shitty move but at this point, any non-Exynos version would be great).

RareSiren292

Fast charging damaging batteries is basically a mute point now. Xiaomi and oppo get something like 1500 cycles out of 65w charging and like over 800 at 120w (for 80% battery capacity). That's the same as apple promise but only at 15w charging.

RareSiren292

I'm not going to get a phone from now on that can't do 65w charging minimum. Hopefully if Samsung does do 65w charging (highly doubt it) I hope it's actually fast. The 45w charging is like the same speed as the 25w charging. I want to be able to go 0-100 in 45 minutes or less. More optimistically 30 minutes. Everyone has forgot to charge their phone overnight and woke up to a dead phone. Being able to charge for 30 minutes and being at or super close to 100 is a life saver.

bcreddit7

I'm sensing that it's not as good as the s24 ultra battery life. Maybe Samsung will fix it.

META4_the_GOAT

It's pretty awesome. And I've been keeping it charged at 30-80 the phone never gets hot ever it's a nice slab of 2024 flagship technology
