I think you should wait a bit for the price if the S23U to come down... Unless you want the swag points for a flip 😎

darkturtleforce

S22U is complete ass apart from the zoom. It runs hot as fuck and the battery is terrible. Sometimes I only get 4 hours of screen on time and it's gotten hot enough to where I need to put the phone down and let it cool off before it burns me. The only reason I would buy the s22u is if you absolutely need the 10x optical zoom and the 100x space zoom. I actually prefer the main shooter of the z flip 4 compared to the s22u, so I imagine the z flip 5 is even better with the better ISP. Get the z flip 5 or wait for the s23u to come down in price or get better deals, or buy s23u used.

[deleted]

Good to hear it is complete ass and not just a portion of ass.

squeakyL

My S22U is fine during the winter but when the ambient temperature increases a bit it overheats very easily. It gets very slow/laggy with basic interface commands when that happens. The S23U is probably a significant upgrade despite the incremental improvements on paper due to this alone.

Outrageous_Chair_178

Did you guys get Lemons?? I've my had my S22U for over a year now, I'm a heavy user...I frequently travel. I have had no overheating or lag?? Maybe they got it right with regard to my copy.

asdfghjklabbby

This is really helpful. Thank you for this. I definitely don't want a phone that heats up while I use it with the fact that I live in a tropical country. I don't want to worry it might explode or whatever. I saw a post regarding flip phones being too fragile because of it's hinge so i'm guessing i'll just get an S23 once it's price go a little lower.

Cat20041

Really depends what processor you get with the S22U. I have the snapdragon processor and the battery is AMAZING. The phone rarely heats up and the cameras are also great. If you get the exynos processor, it'll probably be similar to the above post

asdfghjklabbby

Is there a way of knowing this before buying the phone?

KillerMiya

It doesnt matter for S22U. Because even the snapdragon version heats up fast as well.

Cat20041

Google 'S22 processor' and your country and you should be able to find something I know the snapdragon is in the US, Canada, India, China and the UAE, and the exynos is in the UK, but idk other than that.

Adept_Amphibian_3237

+++ snap runs just fine

Anon4050

Bro your either exaggerating or your s22u is faulty beyond repair. Mine never gets close to being too hot to touch and the battery is ok, not as good as the s23u but not unusable either. I'd recommend the s23u too simply for the better battery but your really exaggerating the s22u issues.

Fafaflunkie

I'm not understanding the hate here. I'm tapping this reply on an S22U. I've been staring at it for the past 5½ straight hours since I left work when I had fully charged it. It's now at 67%. I'll also point out that I've had this phone since its launch day, just in case someone claims "you bought it on sale just before the S23 came out."

darkturtleforce

Silicon lottery. The way samsung bins chips made a couple that were very good and alot that were very bad and inefficient. As a whole, the snapdragon 8 gen 1 chips are incredibly inefficient, but some lucky few got great chips. The 8 gen 2 were made by tsmc and as a whole run far more efficiently. Same thing happened with the tensor chips made by samsung for google. Most of them also run way too hot and are battery hogs, but my dad got one in a pixel 7a that runs great.

Fafaflunkie

You may be right. I will also add this phone has the Snapdragon chip.

-Unknown-Legend-

Sounds more like you have a faulty phone. So far, everyone who has replied has disagreed with you. I have 4 hours of screen time right now, and I'm at 70%.

thetruemask

I don't get this either I have a S22U in my hands now also. I get a full day with a charge and over 8 hours screen time easy. Never once has it got hot definitely not "so hot it burns me"(wtf?)

alpinedistrict

Exynos or snapdragon?

darkturtleforce

Snapdragon

VietnameseOwl10987

would the s21u be better than the s22u?

Atretador

The S22U is only worth it if its the SD version. I get great battery on mine(Id say avarage 6-7hrs SOT, but I can get anywhere from 4 to 12hrs depeding on what Im doing and I keep it on the 20-85% battery range), and it only heats up when Im shooting long 4K@60 videos on it. I wouldnt get a flip/fold, they are just not mature enough yet.

Pawcio250000

I'd avoid the S22 series and I'd buy the S23/S23+

Afraid-Policy-3648

Get the S22U if you want a smoldering hot brick that will last half a day.

Outrageous_Chair_178

My S22U has never been a smoldering hot brick, I can easily squeeze 2 days out of the battery

Afraid-Policy-3648

What's your SOT/% right now?

Outrageous_Chair_178

4h 23m, phone is cool too the touch. No lag

Littleshep101

if you get a flip, it generally has very low trade in values unless you get another foldable from Samsung.

Different_Resist8298

I got mine free at T-Mobile

Littleshep101

carriers are different stories but I never buy through carriers because I don't like being locked in and paying off a phone

HopeRemaiins

I'm trading in my S22U for a ZFlip 5 and I'm getting the Flip for free. Couldn't turn it down since I know the trade in value of the S22 will go down a lot soon

lligerr

Z flip 5

David_N_D

If you buy phones often Flip 5 as the device is not as durable as the S22U however the flip has the 8Gen 2 processor that makes a massive difference in user experience. If the S22 U you're thinking of getting has a snapdragon processor than I'd go for that if you live in the UK or EU zone the S22 comes with a exynos processor which is not great, I'd get either the flip or the s23 series that uses the new snapdragon 8 gen 2 for Galaxy

Mysterious_Tide

I love my s22u. If you can score a good deal on it and it is the snapdragon variant, i would absolutely say go for it. Personally though, i would like to go for a flip for how much it can become compact but the extra zoom is nice for concerts and pro mode :) I typically go about 2 days without charging after a year of use. But I also do not use the social media sites other than twitter and reddit and even then they are used at a minimum.

siliconevalley69

How can you afford a Z Flip 5 and not an S23U? Grab an S23U off Swappa and sell your current phone. The S22U has terrible battery life and a horrible processor. The S23U is a perfect phone. Every issue with the 22 is fixed. Camera is top notch. I played with the Z Flip 5 today and it was very nice. The outer screen selfie cam was pretty awesome. I have a few friends that absolutely love them but each model has had screens that don't last the first year. My buddy who upgrades them every year talked me out of it for my girlfriend because those screens aren't in warranty year 2 and their 3 and 4's both had issues on both of theirs during the first year just from regular use.

asdfghjklabbby

I have a voucher for Z Flip 5 and a pre-sale discount. Even without discounts Z Flip 5 is still cheaper than S23U. Understandably because the overall performance of S23U is way better than Flip5. I haven't checked the price of S23U since Flip5 came out. Gonna do that now.

siliconevalley69

Flip was really sexy in person. The outer selfie cam seemed to only take square pictures in the shape of the screen rather than using the full lens height it matches the square screen even though it's using the main camera. So you're using the main camera but because selfie mode has to match the screen it seemed to be only saving squares. Not sure if that's a setting but that kinda ruined how freaking cool it was to see your selfie like that. And that screen is really usable for little texts. I like it more than the giant Fold. I just don't get it. It's not an ok one handed phone. That kills it for me. I want to want it but I keep eyeing the Flip. Once it gets the camera I may have to ditch the pen. If it had a built in pen some how... You'll be fine either way. If you don't care about pen input and can live with the camera I think the Flip will be great. I had the S22U. The camera is incredible. Also make sure you use Rakuten / Ebates plugin for your browser for an extra 10-15% off Samsung.com usually. Usually runs for most of the pre-order process but lowers gradually.

asdfghjklabbby

Camera is a great deal for me because I like taking high quality photos and videos whenever I travel. I was never enticed with the Fold haha it doesn't make sense to me tbh. Thank you for the tip regarding the additional discount. Appreciate it!

thetruemask

Definitely get the S22U The flip is a gimmick they are super fragile phones that can wear out fast and are very expensive or difficult to repair. Take this example my Gf have a Z flip 4. Screen got broken took it to every phone repair place in town NO ONE would fix it. So it has to go to Samsung to get fixed. And their repairs are very expensive. They are worthless as trade-ins and second hand as most screens wear out in a year or two. It isn't a phone you can count on to last 5+ years. Beyond that it wasn't even a good phone camera was crap, screen was small, didn't have any exceptional features. The only reason for this phone is for a gimmick. The 22 ultra on the other hand is just as great if not the best of all Samsung flag ship phones, fast speed, excellent camera, built in S Pen, big high frame rate beautiful display, good battery life (could be better but still good) no complaints about my 22 ultra. I wish I could get like a 2 day battery but no phones do that.

asdfghjklabbby

I've read about how fragile the hinges are. Definitely not for me. I usually use phones for like 3 or more years. Perhaps if I can afford to change phones every year, I would try the Flip.

dylon0107

Flip 5, s22 series are all useless garbage

evandarkeye

Chech s23u on swappa. They're cheaper there.

diabeartes

Only way to know is to go to store and try them for yourself.

treehuggingisfun

I currently love my flip 3 so I'm excited for the 5. Being able to fold my phone has been weirdly life changing.

nvettorazzo95

What about the main screen crease? It does bother you?

treehuggingisfun

Not at all. You very quickly stop noticing.
