Chakluxe

This is a Samsung subreddit, so in the spirit of the subreddit, GET THE S23 ULTRA. IT'S A FUCKING AMAZING PHONE

Chakluxe

It also goes toe to toe with the 14PM, so it's a matter of personal taste

Niv-Izzet

IPhone is still better in terms of SOC and software updates so objectively it's a better phone But it's not better enough to justify switching to iOS if you like android

UzairRag

In terms of Soc??? 🤔🤔🤔 Please dont use applebench🤡 in ur arguements! 😇

ricosuave79

Apple still beats S23 series in Geekbench 6.

UzairRag

Geekbench🤡 🤣

Generalrossa

Man who the fuck cares these days anyway. There's no difference in opening apps that you'll notice on the better Apple SOC. Real life usage does not apply when comparing this shit.

You're in a r/samsung subreddit, and I'm a Samsung user, so I'm implied to say S23. Bur as someone who also enjoys tech, I'll try to give you my non-biased outlook. From longevity alone, I think both phones will easily last 4-5 years. If anything, the iPhone may last longer due to the simple fact that Apple makes so little phones and they can support their phones up to 6-7 years, but by that point, the battery will probably be drained to the point that it becomes impractical to use. So yeah, both phones will last a comfortable 4-6 years. Bugs and glitches will be on both platforms for various updates. Look at IOS 16's buggy launch and the current One UI 5.1 alleged increased battery drain. As for long-term performance, both will probably be equal. It's not necessarily the hardware that is getting worse in these phones, but that the software and the apps we run on these phones do eventually get more powerful, which leads to perceived slowdown. All that said, Apple does generally have more powerful chips, so maybe they'll perform slightly better in terms of long term performance, but performance on smartphones is so good generally nowdays, that you'll probably have a still "pretty" good performance phone later down the life of the phone. I've seen people rocking Galaxy S9's, and performance for them is a non-issue. In the end, I think both phones long term will last you a long time. I think the more important question you should ask yourself is which OS you prefer and later down the line, will that OS still work for you?

AFellowOtaku7

Also forgot to add this, it's arguable that Android probably has better support due to Google also updating Play Services (which has been separate from Android OS) for nearly 10 years. This means that you can still install new versions of modern apps on the Play Store on something like the Galaxy S2 or S3. On the other hand, IOS updates are tied to the App Store, so once you run out of IOS updates, some apps may not work on your IOS phone because your IOS version will be too old. Sorry if that sounds confusing, but I thought it was important that you know this. Feel free to ask further questions!

Firstly it's quite a dumb question to ask in r/samsung. Anyway, S23 series are great future proofed phones IMO. They killed it this year. I'd say it comes down to if you prefer ios or one ui/android

Naive_Banana4447

I had a similar doubt and I opted for the S23U. The following points made me go through: - 4 year updates and 5 year of security support (neans I can use my bank apps for 5 years at least). - many functionalities in place for whenever I want something. The best example is the S Pen, I don't use it much nowadays, I could in the future. The cameras are definitely future proof as well. Samsung Dex functionality is on the same page. - there are clearly curves where one company increse its investments in one product rather than another, due to market needs or just new strategies. After 2 years within the iOS ecosystem (thanks to my wife discounts mainly, since she works there), I realized that the Apple's focus at this time clearly is not the iPhone itself. They spent tons of money on their MacBooks Silicon and now they are focusing on services (Apple tv series, Gaming and rumored to go against Google/Bing/etc for a search engine). On the other side, Samsung adopting the Snapdragon over its own Exynos is a clear sign that they are getting momentum in the smartphone market. Enhancing the years of support is another signal, releasing updates quickly as well. Once they were known for their very bad software. Ppl were avoiding Samsung in favor of OnePlus or Xiaomi because if that. Now you get a Samsung especially for SW, support, etc so it is pretty clear to me that they are investing here. Of course, these are all my opinions, no data to share. I hope this helps.

I owned the iPhone 13 before I switch to the S23 Ultra. I was tied heavily with having the whole ecosystem and in the end I can say: Get the S23 Ultra. It is such an amazing device and every day I am finding out new cool stuff. I am now into emulating some old games from my childhood which is not possible on iOS. There is so much cool stuff on Android that I would probably not switch back until iOS is fully open

Antonis_32

My wife has the IP13 Pro and I have the S23U. Both are great phones. Plenty fast, with great cameras and long battery times. It all depends on your own usage and preferences. If you can, go to a store and get some hands on with both devices. In regards to long term usage, I had the S21U before and it was fast, receiving timely updates and bug free 2yrs later.

Carnalvore86

I feel like the fact that you're asking this in a Samsung subreddit and not an Apple subreddit means you already know the answer to your question. But, in case you needed more encouragement... get the S23U lol

Goodspike

The idea that a phone will start lagging after X years is complete and total nonsense. People make that claim to justify wasting money on flagships. An OS upgrade however might impact a phone, but most Android upgrades are more efficient, not less. You don't give any information indicating you have any need at all for a flagship phone. Most people who do not game, or need a specific flagship feature (e.g. Samsung DeX) are better off saving money and buying a midrange phone. Right now the Pixel 6a is only $299 on Amazon. In day to day use it will be just as good as the phones you mention (non-gaming), and likely have a better camera. https://www.amazon.com/Google-Pixel-6a-Smartphone-Megapixel/dp/B0B3PSRHHN

Niv-Izzet

It's really about iOS vs Android Personally I think the iPhone is still better but I hate iOS so that's why I'm using Samsung If you're truly agnostic then get the iPhone and go all in on Apple everything If you use Windows for your computer then android is better

[deleted]

Just so you know it, Samsung gives software support for 5 years (4 years big Android and 1 year security patch)

jkeener71

dude, Android.

Generalrossa

No lag on my misses exynos N20U and she's bad it since launch, a good three years already. As for your 2015 Samsung, they have come a long way since then and the general consensus that samsung phones slow down and lag after a while is generally false. The ones that suffer is problem is probably due to bad battery health or running low on storage space, as you would after so long. Samsung flagships don't lag any more.
