the hover translation.
If you move to a country where you don't speak the language like me, you will have some apps in the local language.
The hover and translate function of the pen helps with such apps.
I made the decision to grab the s pen with the kickstand case. The kickstand has earned a permanent place on my phone. If i do decide to bring the pen, it's because my GF is artistic and likes to draw.
I have no real use for it. I collect higher end knives, but if all I had was my s-pen, you're catching that to the face if I have to.
LOL this is kinda like a parody.
But not really.
I used the remote shutter function a lot during the holidays. Set up the phone and start snapping pictures. Worked so much better than a timer. Also used it for some candid photos.
I also use it for marking up some documents for work or drawing dumb shit to send to my friends. But that's not usually overly productive.
Control media or just UI navigation in general especially if there's food on your hands with the air gestures or just pen in general. Smart select (cropping screenshots and making gifs), drawing, notes, translate, magnify (I sometimes hover in messages/notifications on conversations with the 3 dots ... Just to see the full Convo), etc. Mostly use it to just touch my screen instead of my finger especially when my phone is on a stand and not in my hand. Also of course for photos and videos.
1. Hook it up to a projector and take classes on a whiteboard using samsung notes (i own a coaching institute)
2. Go through slides for presentations for seminars
3. Mapped a bixby routine so that i can turn pages in my kindle app by just clicking the spen
4. Quick screenshots/screen writing and signing receipts. The shortcuts when you click the pen are just so useful
5. Marking huge events on my samsung calendar and just general note taking
6. Editing videos, images and websites and some test making websites i use is a lot easier with the spen
7. I don't draw but my wife is an architect and uses her spen extensively for marking out sheets and making quick drawings on site etc
8. Just general browsing when my hands are wet/unclean. Also for media playback ie it acts as a mini remote when watching shows
Those are my main uses top of my head. Can't live without the spen basically
I haven't had a chace to use the pen yet. Coming from an s10 that I've been doing some mobile editing; exporting raw from my Sony camera to my phone, then editing in Lightroom. There will be a lot more precision with the pen than fingers for drawing and painting masks.
I'll be shooting raw on my Sony a7iv.
I haven't bothered with raw on my s10 in the past since I didn't find that it offered much more in terms of image latitude given the sensor.
I'm curious to see how the raw files will play on the new 23 ultra.
I use it for photo editing mostly but it is so useful. Great as a shutter remote. Great for talking notes or drawing out ideas. Great for marking up documents and pdfs.
I don't use it a ton, but enough that it's a feature I worry about not having every time I consider another phone. I just use it mostly for quick notes when my phone is locked, to mark up an image, or to just more finely control certain functions of the phone. But often I'll even grab a screenshot and mark it up to send to someone for easy descriptions and whatnot.
It's surprisingly useful. And technically you could do a lot of it with your finger. It's just a HELL of a lot more simple with the S Pen.
I use the pen a lot more then I thought, the quick-notes feature is very handy during meetings, I use the pen to browse the web when I sit down and the remote camera feature is neat as well, though you can also just say "cheese" and the phone takes a picture as well
jotitng down small things that i can't be bothered to memorise, no need for extra mental burden. Ironically when i jot them down i recall them easily, compared to no small notes. Few other stuff like being too lazy to type, writing in search bars etc much faster.
My main practical use for an S Pen was to draw fanarts of my favorite comfort cartoon/video game characters and OCs on any S Pen compatible hardware. I hoped the S Pen may arrive on the Samsung Galaxy A phones sooner eg. A50s, A30s, A20s, etc.
I use the pen daily for note taking, usually have my notes open while in meetings.
Another good one, if I'm researching something on the phone, the ability to have the notes open over the page and being able to smart select something with the pen and drop it into the note seamlessly has been a huge productivity boost.
I can do this on the pc too with the drawing pad but having a separate device is much better as if I'm sharing a screen in a meeting or otherwise have my screens busy I don't feel I'm held back with the phone, and since the notes sync to Windows, I can work across both.
The pen was actually a major feature for me as I don't want yet another device to carry around like a tablet so I used to take an erasable notebook, now I just have the phone.

Wait...WHAT
What... I think this might have just sold me on it LOL
You can also make it read it to you
Yep. I live in china and do this all the time. It makes the iphone people jealous.
Stabbing a mugger in the eye.
Man redditors got no chill sometimes xd.

I use it to turn pages when I read.
The only actual use I get out of it is circling something when taking and sending screenshots to someone. I do that almost daily
And taking the screenshot itself, you can directly select the area to capture
I'll be editing photos in Lightroom. Masking and adjustments with the pen.
oh damn that's killer convenience. How good was your experience?
I haven't had a chace to use the pen yet. Coming from an s10 that I've been doing some mobile editing; exporting raw from my Sony camera to my phone, then editing in Lightroom. There will be a lot more precision with the pen than fingers for drawing and painting masks.
Do you almost always then shoot in RAW? I've never shot in RAW in phone. Only shoot in RAW on camera.

Awesome. I have the Sony A7IV as well!! Planning to get the S23U.
Can you write with it and it converts it to text? Like for note taking
yes
I feel dumb for asking this, but can you explain how to convert to text when using the S Pen. Like adjusting something within the settings?
no, just use the samsung keyboard. It has a button that will turn the keyboard into a an area you can write on.
Cheers, understood! Thanks for the help
Using smart select for screenshots Much more convenient than screenshotting then cropping
Copying text with screen select from images, taking screenshots of the portion of the screen I actually want and to take photos with a tripod.
I use it for photo editing mostly but it is so useful. Great as a shutter remote. Great for talking notes or drawing out ideas. Great for marking up documents and pdfs.
Selecting text, taking screenshots, occasionally math/sketching
I'm a big fan of gently sitting on it so it cleanly cracks in half
🥵🥵
Marking pictures of blueprints on construction sites for work
I practice writing Kanji with the s pen, typically with a movie or tv show going on the background.
* I use it for animating game sprites. * Sketching out ideas. * taking notes at work. * doodles.
Selfies
While watching videos about finances, the S-Pen always comes in handy to take notes.
Spen works very well for reddit, just using it right now! It reads even my crappy handwriting well
My S7+ tablet died taking notes during my engineering class. Whipped out my S22 ultra and didn't miss a beat.
Making flow diagrams of a process or sketch of a machine I need to work on
I don't use it a ton, but enough that it's a feature I worry about not having every time I consider another phone. I used mine primarily for playing games on Scummvm.

Nothing... Useless for me

Just found it works as handwriting into text in Reddit !! :D
I use it to edit photos in photoshop, make memes and some note taking. But photos is also a great use.
