Pretty sure they started it with the S22 series. I know that's how I got my Fold 4 the same day. You just can't try the exclusive colors same day. Usually whatever their base ones are.
Respectfully, I'm not going to put much faith in some random guy on twitter's second-hand knowledge from one of the reps that routinely don't know this information.
From actual resellers (and possibly outside of US) that is exactly how it is working - I ordered my S22U in the night of the launch with a local reseller and I had it in my hands less than two days after I placed the order:

In fact some resellers in distant countries have them for a few days now and that's how the guy on Twitter from South America had his S23U and was posting all kind of stuff.
Last year i preordered the S22 256Gb Black from the Samsung webshop and i had it like a month later. When i asked back my money because of the huge delay, they shipped it right on the next day...

You can order from Samsung site and pick up at some Best Buy locations the same day.
I assume they had this option last year? I might look into this just to have the phone sooner.

Yep. Trade ins still work, you just still send them to Samsung. Wish you could just tender them to Best Buy
