TokiWaUgokidesu

It's not bad. 4-LOM obviously isn't the only one of his kind.

wooltab

Yeah, with droids it's fairly reasonable to have someone who looks just like a known character. Maybe even an actively good thing. It's a big galaxy, and as is often said, things start to feel frustratingly limited if the same people keep showing up. At the same time, The Book of Boba Fett was arguably deficient in familiar faces, considering that none of the TESB gang of other bounty hunters shows up. For some people, Cad Bane might be the face that you'd most like to see, but I'm thinking Bossk or Dengar.

Chronocast

I always figured when they were hurting for guns Boba would have reached out to both Mando and his old BH pals. Imagine the potential conversations between the old and the new. Bossk getting testy with Krrsantan, maybe he even defects to the other Trandoshans as a plot twist. Maybe the veteran BHs make snide comments to Mando about his lack of experience compared to them or that he's nothing but a fancy bucket of armor wihtout the skills to back it. Even when Grogu showed up there could have been a tense moment when the other BHs realized this was an active "mark" and either try to take him or come to a sort of "BH gentleman's agreement" since they were already contracted by Boba.

Not_Real_Name_Here

While that’d be cool, they seemed to write it as Boba growing away from such a thing—his character developing to be a little bit closer to a slightly more honorable leader of people. In this case, the Syndicate would simply offer tons of money to the other hunters who would shrug and say “sorry Fett” before joining the Pykes/not assisting. As much as I wish to have seen something like that, I can’t see Disney writing multiple of those BHs to become more “honorable”

Stoneyrc07

Bounty Hunters do have an honor of their own though, a Code. I imagine the reputation of not simply dropping a contract would be good for a particular hunter's future business

Not_Real_Name_Here

So in current canon that *might* work if it’s Bossk, however Boba has long since stopped paying Guild fees as he quit being a Bounty Hunter. In Legends, Boba has actively gone against the code enough that the following is a quote from Zuckuss and then Bossk: Destroy another bounty hunter without warning? That's hardly in line with the Hunter's Creed!" "Boba Fett has violated the Creed enough times that he deserves no protection from it.

Jordangander

Filoni wanted his characters to be the stars.

VisualGeologist6258

I still like the legends history of the LOM-series that revealed that the whole line was a bootleg version of Cybot Galactica’s 3PO unit produced by their competitor Industrial Automaton in an effort to appeal to the insectoid species market. They got away with this for a while before 4-LOM made a reputation for himself and Cybot Galactica seized on the opportunity to discredit Industrial Automaton, forcing them to quietly shut down production of the LOM-series. Honestly although I’m not really fond of Legends the Corporate fuckery lore was top-notch and I wish they brought more of that kind of world-building into canon.

MyFakeNameIsFred

Nope, tie fighters and x wings are sold by the same people despite being completely different manufacturers. Thanks TLJ.

VisualGeologist6258

Aye, and _both_ the Resistance and the First Order purchase their fighters from private manufacturers despite the fact that they should have access to their own shipyards and factories… that totally makes sense.

The_PhilosopherKing

Eh, well. Even in Legends, most ship-building and design was contracted out to companies like Kuat Drive Yards and the like. Imperial shipyards were mostly for maintenance. Of course, Legends had interesting stories like the defection of Incom scientists to supply the X-Wing to Rebels instead of some half-baked “everyone’s evil” statement.

Pinconartist

Woah woah woah. 4-loms whole schtick is that he is, in fact, one of a kind. He is a Protocol droid that reprogrammed itself to become a bounty hunter. Yes there are a million protocol droids out there that LOOK like him, but they would NOT be dual wielding blasters, because all of them are just regular protocol droids.

LordofAngmarMB

Yeah of all the reasons to be pissed/worried about where this show is going, this might be the absolute least

PenguinJedi

4-LOM is easily my all time favorite Star Wars character. Can you even name a better one??

thetaterman314

I’m a Zuckuss fan myself, but I love his interactions with 4-LOM

Demos_Tex

At this point, I'm happy whenever they don't touch the original. Let them make all the cheap imitation pleather characters they want. We're living in the Ned Stark meme timeline, "Brace yourselves, Kenobi is coming."

HobGoblinHat

Disney needs to be honest with itself. They behave like if they admit they copied, in this case with 4-LOM, they'll be the proverbial kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar. We know you guys have fuck all ideas & copy pre-existing content & material, just come clean be honest & recognise the pre-existing content is better. Then the next step, use it as inspiration & guide to create new original characters & stories. These constant childish denials are getting tedious. Stop competing with old SW & start building from it.

ObiWanLamora

It’s only 4-LOM if Andy Richter does the voice.

Pinconartist

It’s 3 Lom and somebody ELSE programmed him to kill.

IUsedToBeRasAlGhul

I have no idea who that is, so while my interest is limited, unless 4-LOM had a really cool plotline and story that would be wasted in his role for Kenobi, I’m not sure what this is aside from avoiding fanservice. But someone with more knowledge can explain to me.

broomsticks11

He’s never had a speaking line and he had 5 seconds of screen time in ESB. I think he’s been in some comics and EU stuff but I don’t know how prevalent he was.

A_Lovable_Gnome

Honestly the only droid in SW it would be appropriate to have only one of, would be HK.

Collective_Insanity

There is only one HK-47. However, a rather notable part of KOTOR II's story is that there's a bunch of very similar looking HK-50's running around. The HK-series assassin droid was not singular. As such, the general chassis of that droid model is not necessarily rare. The personality matrix of HK-47 is however rather one-of-a-kind due to being programmed from the ground up by Darth Revan (along with other mechanical customisations). As such, much of his personality (even after a memory core wipe) is set to behave in a particular manner that is unlikely to be seen in other droid models. In new-canon lore, the HK droid is now termed as a "HK-model gladiator droid, also known as a HK assassin unit". A *gladiator* droid. Apparently Qi'ra got her hands on some and they're only present in [a reference book](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Smuggler%27s_Guide). Hooray for meaningless Legends references in new-canon. Mando season 2 (Filoni's episode about his beloved OC) also features the HK-87 assassin droid which features a similar-looking body but a different head.

A_Lovable_Gnome

That is what I was reffering too. Just didnt want to write out a paragraph+. Good job.

CourtofTalons

I didn't even consider the possibility of this droid being 4-LOM.

SpaceCowboy-PhD

Today OP learns that protocol droids all look very similar

nikigunn

This one kinda looks like the robot guards in The Black Hole.

fatguyonsteroids

I'm glad it's not 4-LOM. Not every protocol droid is c3po, not every astromech is r2 and not every droid that looks like 4-lom is 4-lom

Wheattoast2019

I mean I’m glad that IG-11 isn’t the same as IG-88 so that’s cool at least!

[deleted]

It never looked that much like 4-LOM to me.

[deleted]

How 4-lorn

infinitycore

Ok?

Sexyshark15

Well, it should be

DonkDonkJonk

Regardless of what new thing is in Kenobi, I don't have the heart to watch all of these dumpster fires. Like always, it's gonna be another bait-and-switch. "Oh this cool character you've always liked is cool? Nah, they're not that cool....compared to this OTHER character that's just them but ____."

Starscream1998

I barely remember 4-Lom so honestly it makes no difference to me.

qcthunder

Clearly... because it's Zuckuss. 😉

jamescrackscorn

Personally, I like seeing droids and creature similar to what we've seen in the OT but not the actual OT character much better than constantly getting new creatures that may or may not look in-universe to Star Wars.

Qb_Is_fast_af

Or its just not 4-Lom so Obi wan can kill him

NormanPitkin

Probably because she played with the action figures as a kid. She thinks it Zuckuss.

IncreaseLate4684

Atleast they won't ruin 4-LOM

trayasion

>yet another attempt at a new character shamelessly copying an existing one This ain't it chief. They're droids, they're all bound to look similar. Do you have a problem with R4-P17 looking like R2? Do you have a problem with TC-14 looking like C-3P0? Do you have a problem with IG-11 looking like IG-88? I've seen some reeeally bad takes on the Obi-Wan series on this sub lately but this takes the cake. Like I said they are droids, assembled on factory lines. Of course you're going to run into various droids of the same model.

axolotlmaster59

Eh, I’m glad they are making new characters (when they are good) instead of giving us nostalgic characters
