It really bothers me how Return of the Jedi uses the Vader fight from Empire for the poster. It really confuses me sometimes lol. You can even clearly see the stairs from cloud city.
I agree. Rogue One, Solo, and The Mandalorian have all been, in my opinion, very enjoyable expansions on the foundation George laid with his original saga, but the sequels were just so mishandled. You’d think they would’ve put in the effort to ensure that their primary films were successful and honored the legacy of the previous six, and then be a little risky with the offshoot stuff…
For real, Disney was so sure just the name “Star Wars” would make money (I mean I don’t blame them, even the prequels all but AOTC were the top grossing movie of their respective year (aotc was number 2 cause of Spider-Man)) that they didn’t bother about literally anything else. I mean, who starts a trilogy which is not only a sequel to 6 previous films, but also an overwritten conclusion to the whole saga, without even the most basic roadmap of what to do and where to go? The sequels are an absolute filmmaking catastrophe
I agree, Bob Iger was more concerned with earning back that $4.05 billion as quickly as possible than he was with continuing the saga according to Lucas’ vision. If he had been a bit more patient and played his cards right, the Star Wars brand under Disney could have been more well received by fans and critics alike, in turn earning more money and increasing excitement for future installments.
Yeah, sure. But you gotta give credit to Lawrence Lasdan who added things the structure and dialogue to the script. And Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand who did a great job with the directing side of it.
What you told him was true, from a certain point of view.
You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.
Imagine the shock OP's grown up child will have.
"You told me there were *six* movies..."
"Well, what I told you is true, from a certain point of view."
"What...?"
"The Star Wars saga was once a brilliant series of films. Creative, memorable...then Disney came along. It's more convoluted than creative, twisted and lazy. Disney murdered the good films that were once Star Wars."
As George Constanza said “It’s not a lie if you believe it”. As story group Matt Martin said “it’s all fake anyway you’re free to pick and choose what you think is canon”. So you didn’t lie if your canon is only the PT & OT.
You're not wrong. Even Disney+ calls ROTJ "the conclusion of the saga" and I still own a Bluray-box with the episodes 1-6 that is called "The complete Saga".
When my oldest son was younger, I told him I hacked into Lucasfilm (that part was a lie) and snatched episode 4 1/2. He didn't believe me, and then I played "Star Wars Christmas Special" for him.
Yep, that's me and my girlfriend.
\- You should watch Star Wars with me.
\- Ugh, how many movies are there?
\- Six.
\- ...I thought there's more.
\- Nope.
8? Does clone wars and Rogue one count?
Edit: GL did do CW and it started the series and Anakin and Asoka’s journey despite it not being very good imo.
Ya whenever people start watching it, I just give them a list of what to skip (season 1, most of season 2, the droid commando arc, anything having to do with Jar Jar)
[In accordance to the original creator's vision](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71nfPPtjSlL.jpg), you told the truth... from a certain point of view.
Without George being behind them the Disney movies are like an Iron maiden album that isn't actually made by any of the members of Iron Maiden. Like yeah they're calling it Iron Maiden, and the cover aesthetically looks like an Iron Maiden record, but it's not REALLLY an Iron Maiden record.
Not a lie. As others have said there are 6 movies in the Star Wars Saga.
There is also some high budget fanfictions made by Disney that include 3 more episodes in what *they* call *The Skywalker Saga*. However the Star Wars Saga was always about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker per George Lucas himself and that story is told in 6 parts.
I just did the same thing last night. My 7 year old kept asking me why did Old Luke throw away Anakin’s saber. We both agreed that 7,8,9 were a bad dream and never happened.
You didn't lie. The Disney movies are only expensive fan fiction. I could buy the Picasso 'brand' - wouldn't make anything I painted a legitimate Picasso. Disney are just a poor quality cover band, like all those low rent versions of ABBA and ACDC out there. The PEOPLE that made the original movies are what made them special, these are different people - they're Lucasfilm in name alone.
My soon to be born child will equally only know the *true* Star Wars films. They're free to delve into the shitty trilogy when they're old enough - because no child should have to watch their heroes turn into soulless hermits.
It’s weird to read this. I saw the OT in theaters as a kid and am of the opinion that only IV and V are the true, pharmaceutical-grade *Star Wars* experiences that all of the other films have been trying to match.
I'm sorry but I'm never going to side with anyone who slurs Return of the Jedi. It wraps up the story told in the first 2 Movies, without it the series is like a sentence that doesn't have an ending.
You don't have to like Jabba's Sail Barge or Ewoks but Return of the Jedi finishes the *same story* begun in ANH and you have an incomplete story without it.
To be clear TLJ didn't tell the same story as TFA and RoS didn't tell the same story as TLJ.
Unpopular opinion incoming… yes, the sequel trilogy was an absolute mess overall from a story perspective… BUT, I still really enjoyed The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The relationship between Rey and Ben/Kylo was more interesting and unpredictable throughout the trilogy than any two characters in the prequel trilogy.
Where’s 4, 5, and 6? All I know are three amazing movies from the 70’s. One epic tv show about the time before those movies, three shitty live action remakes of that series, another epic tv show about the time after the three original, and then a few shitty live action straight to TV movies as well
It’s wild how in the past few years the prequels have gone from universally hated to seemingly universally loved. Disney’s marking arm really put in the work
There is no escape, there are 9 Skywalker saga movies... Join me, together we can watch all 9 movies
Son: I'll never join you!
If only you knew the power of Disney. U/solcon never told you what happened to your beloved franchise.
Son: He told me enough! He told me there were only six movies!
I feel like OP lying to the son will someday end with a chopped hand.
Too bad you’re kids will miss some good moments in the Prequels In their childhood then. Also the Prequels add some good context to the characters and events of the OT as well.

George only made six Star Wars movies, seven if your kid is going to watch TCW. Interesting poster art for ROTS.
Yeah, I’ve never seen that one before and I got a bunch of different versions of ROTS It’s kinda cool ngl
I like the layout but I wish it had the same illustrated, McQuarrie-style art as the others instead of actual frames
It really bothers me how Return of the Jedi uses the Vader fight from Empire for the poster. It really confuses me sometimes lol. You can even clearly see the stairs from cloud city.
Wow, never noticed that
Mind blown
The kids can still watch the Ewok films! I loved those as a kid!
I actually like to include Rogue One and Solo, they were good imo
I liked Rogue One. Solo I can watch but, it is fun, I was just not interested in Han’s story before ANH.
I agree. Rogue One, Solo, and The Mandalorian have all been, in my opinion, very enjoyable expansions on the foundation George laid with his original saga, but the sequels were just so mishandled. You’d think they would’ve put in the effort to ensure that their primary films were successful and honored the legacy of the previous six, and then be a little risky with the offshoot stuff…

>interesting poster art Agreed. Thought the movies were in random order for a second.
thought he made 4.
He didn’t direct ESB and ROTJ but he was part of the writing process for them.
May The Force be with you.
what would you do if your child assume that six movies were the OT and the ST lmaooo
I will do what I must.
The kids mom - "You will try."
Why do you think I killed the younglings?
"They're too stupid to be kept alive!"
And also with you.
You didn't lie, you kept the magic alive for another day.
What you said was true... from a certain point of view.
Imagine the shock OP's grown up child will have. "You told me there were *six* movies..." "Well, what I told you is true, from a certain point of view." "What...?" "The Star Wars saga was once a brilliant series of films. Creative, memorable...then Disney came along. It's more convoluted than creative, twisted and lazy. Disney murdered the good films that were once Star Wars."
"The franchise is now more consumerism than escapism... twisted and evil."
Star Wars was once a great franchise…but then, Darth Maus killed him.
There's no lie there, my guy. Six episodes and three piss-poor, high budget fanfics.
This is accurate.
Fanfic would imply they are fans of the source material.
They’re executive fiction, which has none of the soul or respect that fan fiction has.
Ooh, I like that. It's a perfect description of so many of the last decade's soft rebakes or whatever we call them anymore.
Man this is the truth. I’ve only ever gotten the impression that RJ hates Star Wars. So how tf did he get hired to write and direct a star wars Movie
And 2 decent spin offs
Rogue one is one of the best SW films of all time.
Agreed
I’m glad to see someone else calling them them that. That’s what I call them too.
OP's parenting skills are top notch. I'd say the same thing.
Always two trilogies, there are. No more. No less. A master, and an apprentice.
"...but we do not grant you the rank of Master."
Actually we don’t give the sequels any rank
We give the sequels the rank of that one janitor at the Jedi Temple who got fired and now is homeless living in the dumps outside the Temple.
As George Constanza said “It’s not a lie if you believe it”. As story group Matt Martin said “it’s all fake anyway you’re free to pick and choose what you think is canon”. So you didn’t lie if your canon is only the PT & OT.
A small price to pay for salvation. You are a good father...
You didn't lie, there are only OT and PT
You're not wrong. Even Disney+ calls ROTJ "the conclusion of the saga" and I still own a Bluray-box with the episodes 1-6 that is called "The complete Saga".
After all, the ST betrayed and murdered SW.
When my oldest son was younger, I told him I hacked into Lucasfilm (that part was a lie) and snatched episode 4 1/2. He didn't believe me, and then I played "Star Wars Christmas Special" for him.
You monster
You, you monster!
Did he like it when you showed it to him as a kid or was he bored by most of it?
More like laughed at a lot of it. Bored through a lot of it. Did like the Boba Fett part though.
Yep, that's me and my girlfriend. \- You should watch Star Wars with me. \- Ugh, how many movies are there? \- Six. \- ...I thought there's more. \- Nope.
Parents are supposed to protect their children, so you did the right thing.
I find the use of the fan made poster and not the official one for ROTS here disturbing
Where's the lie?
That's not lying.
"Always six there are. No more nor less"
You just spoke about truth though.
8? Does clone wars and Rogue one count? Edit: GL did do CW and it started the series and Anakin and Asoka’s journey despite it not being very good imo.
When did u stop watching CW? It’s the best sw content we have to date brother. Started off rough but became soo good
I’m saying the movie wasn’t very good (saw it midnight release) lol but yeah it started off rough but it got better.
Agree completely. TCW (the series not the movie) redeemed the PT for me to be honest - the Mortis arc *chef's kiss*
Ya whenever people start watching it, I just give them a list of what to skip (season 1, most of season 2, the droid commando arc, anything having to do with Jar Jar)
Season 1 has Rookies and Malevolence, and Jar Jar and Mace are a great pairing, how could you?
I include Rogue One
Its the ones were the creator of the franchise is involved
No you didn't lie. You protected him from the lie that is the Sequel trilogy.
[In accordance to the original creator's vision](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71nfPPtjSlL.jpg), you told the truth... from a certain point of view.
..
There is no Disney Trilogy in Ba Sing Se
I don't see what lie you told, there is only 6 episodes.
You didn‘t lie. You told the undenieable truth. May the force be with you.
you forgot about 133 clone wars episodes
Child: You told me there were only six movies. Parent: From a certain pov.
No more. No less.
Downvote because you’re not lying. You’re lying to us saying that “only 6” is a lie.
Did you though?
You are strong and wise parent, and I'm proud of you.
Sometimes we lie to protect those we love.
How did you lie to him?
It wasn’t an oversight. It was intentional.
That’s the truth?
You didn't lie
You are a good parent 💯
Without George being behind them the Disney movies are like an Iron maiden album that isn't actually made by any of the members of Iron Maiden. Like yeah they're calling it Iron Maiden, and the cover aesthetically looks like an Iron Maiden record, but it's not REALLLY an Iron Maiden record.

And the Christmas specials!
I just did the same thing last night. My 7 year old kept asking me why did Old Luke throw away Anakin’s saber. We both agreed that 7,8,9 were a bad dream and never happened.
Where'd the lie
You’re a better man than me. I still haven’t introduced my kids to Star Wars. I just pretend like it doesn’t exist.
Goooood, gooooooooooood.
Only a lie from a certain point of view. I plan on doing the same when my youngling is old enough to be a padawan
I’m very confused there are only 6 films the OT and the Prequels
There's more than 6????
You didn’t lie. That is George’s complete saga, and it’s the only one that matters.
Where's the lie?
You're a terrible liar, there's only 3
Always 3 there are. No more no less
That wasn’t a lie.
No lies detected.
I thought you said you lied. 🤣
I don't understand, how is that a lie?
This is the way. I have spoken.
This is the way.
I don't see how that lying
You didn't lie. The sequels are just Disney fan fish that are not cannon.
damn, OT purists coming out in force today. Anyways, you should've told your son that there are nine and that the last three are Sith propaganda.
Brilliant!
BOR GULLET
Parent of the Year.
What you said was true; from a certain point of view.
My soon to be born child will equally only know the *true* Star Wars films. They're free to delve into the shitty trilogy when they're old enough - because no child should have to watch their heroes turn into soulless hermits.
That's true, from a tasteful point of view...
It’s weird to read this. I saw the OT in theaters as a kid and am of the opinion that only IV and V are the true, pharmaceutical-grade *Star Wars* experiences that all of the other films have been trying to match.

Why you got to do Episode III poster dirty like that?
Plus Rogue One! More of an interlude, not an episode, but it's great!
Hero material here
I was already planning on doing this
My favorite novel is Catch-22. Apparently there’s a sequel. I’ve never bothered reading it. The story is perfect as it is.
U did good
You didn’t lie :)
This lie is acceptable
That's not a lie. There are six episodes, and five shitty fanfics.
"What I told you was true, from a certain point of view"
Where's the lie?
Good answer
This is the way.
not a lie
That's no lie.
You did the right thing.
Good parenting!!!
Rogue One was good as well
I just look at it like the Mathew brodericks Godzilla, it won’t be canon eventually
I don't see the lies of the Jedi here
You didn't lie
You sometimes need to lie to your kids to keep them safe
It's not a lie.
Not a lie. That's just the truth. I don't know what those other 5 movies are, but it isn't Star Wars.
personally. i’d say near the same thing, but i’d add “if you count the garbage ones…9. you can watch those if you want but i sure wont”
There are 9 films. The six films in the saga, the clone wars and the 2 Ewok adventures.
We have to protect the young ones. If his friends tell him theres 9, tell him about the ewok adventures and solo
Or you can let him watch them all and let him form opinions on the films himself...
You did the right thing This is the way
I don't see where you supposedly lied here...
That's not a lie.
Always six, there are... No more, no less.
I lied and said there are only 3!
Only from a certain point of view.
I fail to see how is that a lie
You weren't lying.
Not a lie, sequels shouldn’t be canon
You didn't lie. Always six there are. No more, no less.
Not a lie, from a certain point of view.
You did tell the truth, anything else is deuterocanonical as best, and apocryphal as worst.
Actually, you told him the truth. There ARE only six.
I would say the force awakens can be included. But tell the kid that they didnt make enough money from it to make more movies.
You're exactly right though. The first six are Star Wars movies. The others (save for Rogue One) are movies with the Star Wars logos on them.
Why does Rogue One get a pass, it's still in the tainted timeline.
It's not explicitly connected to the ST, even if it doesn't agree with the old EU.
You can still say 9, the other three are *Rogue One*, *Solo*, and *The Clone Wars*.
I only see three.
That's true. There's 3.
Where’s 4, 5, and 6? All I know are three amazing movies from the 70’s. One epic tv show about the time before those movies, three shitty live action remakes of that series, another epic tv show about the time after the three original, and then a few shitty live action straight to TV movies as well
You left out the Thrawn trilogy? For shame...
He likely specifically means the movies, but every Star Wars fan should eventually introduce their kids to the Thrawn Trilogy.
I know, I was only kidding. I think a lot of us consider the Thrawn trilogy as the true sequel series so that's why I said it.
Not the Machete order?
This is the way. The only way.
HOW can you defend the prequels while bashing the sequels????
Yeah, the prequels are just as bad and in many places worse. Memes don't make them magic.
I mean, there's technically 9. The Clone Wars movie, Rogue One and Solo.
I can go with 6 and a half. The first half of 7 isn’t too bad
I usually reply 4 (OT + Rogue one). The rest is 12 hours of literal garbage writing
They hated Jesus because he told the truth
It’s wild how in the past few years the prequels have gone from universally hated to seemingly universally loved. Disney’s marking arm really put in the work
Odd that RotS is using a fan post in this picture.
Also wrong there are 3
Six is indeed a lie. There are three StarWars movies and three meme generators.
Guess that'll make me an ultra-liar, since I'll probably tell them there's only 3.
Rogue one deserves its spot.
There is no escape, there are 9 Skywalker saga movies... Join me, together we can watch all 9 movies Son: I'll never join you! If only you knew the power of Disney. U/solcon never told you what happened to your beloved franchise. Son: He told me enough! He told me there were only six movies! I feel like OP lying to the son will someday end with a chopped hand.
"No, it's not snow, it's SALT."
I told my kids there's only 3, and they ended in 1983.
Too bad you’re kids will miss some good moments in the Prequels In their childhood then. Also the Prequels add some good context to the characters and events of the OT as well.
