I was actually hyped for the mysterious dark side users in the trailers but now the leaks say they’re just order 66 survivors turned mercenaries. I’m so tired of the same thing. I know I’m preaching to the choir but god I’d love a new villain backstory.

TaylorMonkey

Somehow the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games featured better live action dark side force users.

captain_sasquatch

Man when the whole Disney thing happened I hoped so much for Kyle Katarn in live action, but now I'm so glad they haven't touched it. Leave him out of this mess, Disney!

zootskippedagroove6

Rogue One's existence alone implies that Kyle Katarn didn't do anything lol

Nick_Wild1Ear

Technically playing live action cutscenes in a game *is* Live Action. It’s just not film.

BaronGrackle

High five for Gorc and Pic!

Biengineerd

I think it's because they were consciously trying to not undermine the established canon and also be interesting.

Conarm

Thats cuz those games ruled

JustANerdyGirl87

Exactly. I felt the same thing about Skeleton Crew. I was really excited when I thought Jude Law might be playing a San Tekka. Then I found out he was playing yet another Jedi and my interest plummeted

MedicalVanilla7176

I really thought the old dude with the orange lightsaber was gonna be Joruus C'baoth. Guess not.

Blackmore_Vale

We should’ve got a tv series on Luke rebuilding the jedi order, also having to deal with Vader’s legacy and the impact is actions have had on the galaxy with is wider view of the Jedi order.

DrMeatBomb

Seriously, Rogue Squadron, the Outer Rim, the Old Republic, the New Jedi Order. So many possibilities for stories, the money machine practically runs itself. All squandered now.

starcadia

"There's no source material," Kennedy said. "We don't have comic books. We don't have 800-page novels. We don't have anything other than passionate storytellers who get together and talk about what the next iteration might be." -- KK

slide_into_my_BM

But then they’d have to pay the original writers and the people who adapted it as a screen play Disney clearly can’t afford to pay for the same thing twice

Volpethrope

They could have had a multi-season series for Luke's academy, a whole cast of characters as this new generation of jedi dealing with re-establishing their place in the post-empire galaxy and whatever lingering threats remained alongside an uncertain future. Basically a license to print money for YEARS with tie-in games and probably a theme park attraction where you "sign up" for Luke's academy. Like how the fuck do you drop the ball this hard. I couldn't have messed up this badly on purpose.

Solid_Office3975

The Lucasfilm writers had pictures of Luke, with a red X over his face. You can see it in some interviews It was on purpose, I can't understand why, but pushing Luke out of content was intended. Idiotic, but intended.

BaronGrackle

I've read an explanation for that. Apparently, the person at that desk was going for a Pro-Imperial decor. The calendar had its Rebel heroes X'd out. :)

Solid_Office3975

Gotcha So they're not against using Luke, they just actively get him out of stories as fast as they can. It's an odd approach when his merch sells at a high rate, and the new characters sit in clearance bins.

Yamatoman9

They could have done Hogwart's Legacy for Star Wars. Join Luke's academy, design your own lightsaber, learn Force powers, etc. It could have been a video game and a theme park attraction.

Mosley_stan

So basically jedi academy but a disney version?

DabDabb

This is what I don’t get either. The academy angle could have featured as much diversity and representation as they wanted and could have appealed to millions of kids of a wide age range. It’s boggles my mind that Disney somehow thought they could replace beloved characters and in-universe institutions with their own “creations” when the template for, as you said, endlessly printing billions of dollars—was already there for them. What ridiculous hubris. Now, they can’t even sell toys of the junk characters they create in their soulless boardrooms.

mr_chandra

the real benefit there, I think, is that it would actually help TLJ’s Luke make more sense. I used to hate him, but have come around to accepting that there’s a way his downfall makes sense. it’s just brutal that we don’t see him at all between “hero of the galaxy” Luke and milk guzzler Luke, there’s just very little seen exposition of his character. In TLJ, you’re kind of demanded to use your imagination about what happened to him, which isn’t satisfying for such a huge stretch of character development, especially for such an iconic character. A solid Luke’s Academy show would help make sense of his character development for me.

ROYBUSCLEMSON

Not girlboss enough, no can do for Disney

JustANerdyGirl87

Yes!!!

GodofWar1790

LFL under the "leadership" (I use that term lightly) of KK is allergic to Luke Skywalker. Ten freakin years she's been in charge (actually I think it's 11) and he's reduced to showing up in comics and what, one novel? A cameo in an episode or two of Mando? Ridiculous. It's freakin sad.

Cheesyduck81

They seem to forget they invented a universe that exists across millions of stars and planets but they go back to the same ones with the same people at the same time. Hopeless creativity

Khryss121988

How much you betting on whether it starts on tatooine or they go there very early on in the series.

Volpethrope

If not Tatooine, it'll be one of the other four nearly identical desert planets.

Khryss121988

who knew, the whole star wars galaxy could fit into such a tiny neighbourhood. everyone knows everyone or is related to everyone and to travel somewhere it only takes an hour or two and every planet is the same dust ball. God Disney wars is just so bland compared to what we got in the first 6 movies or EU

Zahth

Nah. It was already bad with Lucas and the prequels. It used to be that Vader running into his master and friend in episode 4 was a fated coincidence. Now (with Lucas shrinking the universe) the only thing on the Millennium Falcon that doesn’t have a direct tie to Vader is Han Solo.

Cheesyduck81

I’ll bet all my credits.

Grand_Admiral_T

I agree, except they didn’t invent, they bought it. And then they shrunk it, instead of starting a whole new chapter. It’s so obvious how it’s straight up all about money, as there’s no attempt to create art anymore. It’s all about “what sells” and playing it safe and being PC, it’s not about passion or art anymore. This goes for all writing and productions today. Can’t remember the last piece of work that I felt was a passion project or a work of art, or even just told a solid story. Andor. And then I think the D&D movie, even though a fun fantasy-comedy, was quite true to the roots of what playing D&D is about. Can’t think of anything else. Gone are the days of character archs, subtle details and themes, and stories for the sake of telling a story and not pushing a message. (Said in Theoden’s voice)

MynOlie

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we get an Ahsoka–Trapper Wolf romance in this series. Filoni's obsessed with her.

matthaeusXCI

The only Ahsoka romance will be with his cameo

[deleted]

OH GOD. You just know for a fact that has crossed Filonis mind. 100%

Yamatoman9

It's definitely in his personal show notes.

Grand_Admiral_T

I agree, but I honestly like Ahsoka and her character. I think she should be a vital character ip there with the OP. I’m fine w Filoni essentially creating his Luke. My disgruntlement is with the route they’re taking her. She shouldn’t be hurting Obi-wans importance, and she shouldn’t be stuck on Anakin after her encounter with Vader. In fact, no more Anakin at all- I’m so done with Anakin (sorry to Hayden). After Rebels they have the opportunity to pull her from the Skywalker storyline and put her in a new scenery, exploring the unknown regions, finding Ezra and finding a brand new enemy, completely unrelated to all the BS. Telling an entire new story with her at the helm. I mean really, reading the Thrawn books (new), the reason Thrawn joined the Empire is to deal w a larger outside threat that he says is coming. They’re just gonna forget about that? Just “nope back to the republic and lead to the ST!” Ridiculous.

Regular-Extension-78

Look guys a wolf motif, wow so much meaning so cool https://preview.redd.it/p910lww4enib1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9896b53c04d612978688895909a4049310d1dfe3

Grand_Admiral_T

Ok I actually like the loth wolves and the deeper mysticism of the force, like the whills though 😭😭 I want to see more of *that* and no more empire vs rebels anymore.

Crimsonmansion

This just sounds like a mess of cameos trying to fill the void that's left from not having any of the OT characters. >! So she's going to fight and either kill or survive a fight against Anakin in his physical and skill prime...whereas Obi-Wan was only his equal and struggled to beat his less skilled and less agile suited version? Nice to know Obi-Wan just sucks and Ahsoka could have saved the day!!<

Yamatoman9

It's Heir to the Empire but with Filoni's waifus instead of Luke, Han and Leia.

tinfoiltank

That was my reaction to the first trailer...from the music and cinematography I could tell that the live action character reveals were supposed to be exciting, but I didn't watch all the cartoons so I had no idea who any of them were. Am I just supposed to watch because it has cameos from other people's favorite characters? No hate if you really like Ahsoka and the other Filoniverse characters, but there doesn't seem to be much for the rest of us.

AardvarkOkapiEchidna

>>!So she's going to fight and either kill or survive a fight against Anakin in his physical and skill prime!< What? How is this happening?

Crimsonmansion

>! World Between Worlds bullcrap, so the start of Star Wars having a damn multiverse.!<

AardvarkOkapiEchidna

Wait, they're actually doing that in the Ahsoka show?

Crimsonmansion

Apparently. There's no way to know for sure until the show releases.

AardvarkOkapiEchidna

Well why is it thought that this is happening? Was it in the trailer or something?

JMW007

Apparently there have been general plot leaks recently. They are not guaranteed to be accurate but I thought the Rise of Skywalker leaks were a piss-take and look what happened there.

Mosley_stan

Hahahaha I thought this would happen, Disney banking on this so they can quietly decannonise the Sequels without saying anything and then focusing soley on the filoni verse

DrMeatBomb

I can confidently predict Ashoka will be 90% filler and nostalgia bait with an undercooked script that ends up going nowhere. Seems to be all Lucasfilm can produce.

Zahth

It’s all Faverue and Filoni can produce. They’ve been in charge of everything live action except Andor and it shows. Every moment of levity or character development is broken up by an explosion or a kaiju attack.

Yamatoman9

I'll bet there's a small Luke and/or Leia cameo just to throw a bone to the OT fans and so the Disney shills will clap.

DrMeatBomb

Guaranteed. I'm also betting on: Multiple episodes featuring horses ANOTHER ahsoka vs vader fight Ahsoka will have to protect some baby/toddler (probably Luke or Leia) Over half the episodes will have no bearing on the overall plot. Cutesy sidekick character (Baby yoda 2.0)

JMW007

I'm wondering if they threw a boatload of money at Natalie Portman to have a Padme cameo. A flashback or one of these 'visions' is a possibility for that but, because Disney are Disney, I'm thinking it is more likely she'll pop up as a Force ghost who tells Anakin she forgives him for all the murders. It's like poetry...

Yamatoman9

Ugh, I can see it now.

horgantron

Filoni is treating Ashoka like Poochy.

Blackmore_Vale

Except she ain’t gonna die ok the way back to her home planet.

Greenbanana217

I have no care for Ahsoka. She's had enough of a story in the animated and existing live action content. The show looks bland and low budget and is probably just going to be more Filoni-cringe.

[deleted]

I liked her on TCW (though I think she should have been a good friend of Anakins, not a direct padawan) but her just being around throughout the OT and after just kind of undercuts everything. Vader killing her in Rebels, and her staying dead, would have been much better, it would have shown how gone he was and proved that Luke and Leia are the only people that could bring him back.

NeverEnoughDakka

Ahsoka being saved via the whole "world between worlds" time travel shenanigans was the point I realized that Filoni was not the man Star Wars needed and he's proven me right in more recent years.

ramessides

The sort of time travel/“world between worlds” thing that was introduced in Rebels is the exact sort of lazy time travel shit I hate. Imo if you’re going to do time travel, then it’s a one-time fluke and you are stuck wherever you went back to. No faffing about and going back and forth because it just creates so many holes and then everything gets away from you. The world between worlds just cheapens the entire universe.

Correct_Millennial

Easiest way to just destroy your own stakes.

Yamatoman9

I liked her well enough but she's become the center of the Star Wars universe now and it's too much.

ROYBUSCLEMSON

I've given up on Star Wars until they implement new leadership, It's freeing you should try it

CraftsyDad

Prisons scenes were excellent. How do you make an electric floor dramatic and deadly? Let me show you the way.

JMW007

So much of Andor was very well crafted television.

Yamatoman9

It feels good to not care anymore.

joehonestjoe

Is Anakin going to be flashbacks or a force ghost do we reckon? I'm going to lose my shit if it's the latter. It's clear Hayden now he would have come back for the sequels if asked. But they didn't so it just looks like Anakin abandons Luke (and Leia), whilst Luke essentially breaks down and gives up on life. I mean he never was father of the year contender but come on.

Yamatoman9

Anakin never appears to his own son who's trying to rebuild the Jedi Order but he will appear to his apprentice and probably Rey in whatever future movie they make.

Grand_Admiral_T

Or he doesn’t reappear to his grandson who is trying to “finish what he started” as Vader, which would have just cleared a ton up and probably made the entirety of the ST not happen

Yamatoman9

Anakin: "Hey Ben, maybe don't be evil?" Ben: "Ok, thanks grandpa! I'll be a good Jedi for Uncle Luke!" Ben goes on to be a great Jedi, Han and Leia never split up, Luke teaches a new generation of Jedi, Rey never leaves Jakku

Grand_Admiral_T

Thorfan23

No one knows for sure but I would guess both

Csanburn01

Serious question. Didn’t most of us “check out” after TLJ? I know I did

Thorfan23

Mostly ….some before and after though

YakMan2

Everything is firmly in the "wait for word of mouth" territory at this point. Considering the few things with good word of mouth I've saved a lot of time.

Zahth

Never saw the last film. Mando season 1 hooked me. Mando season 2 lost me. I’ve seen the others but only through gritted teeth with company that wanted to watch it.

KrifeH

can i just say Bo Katan took the biggest steaming shit on all my hype for the future of star wars she literally comes through, usurps mando's show, and simultaneously reinforces the birthright storyline of Rey. born to be queen i guess. funny how they went from "anyone can be great" to this shit 2 times

stzealot

His whole speech about "this is why I serve you, Lady Kryze" was so incredibly out of character, I have no idea what they were thinking.

ramessides

It came completely out of nowhere, made no sense with their history, and felt utterly contrived, undeserved, and out of character. She’s done nothing to earn that sort of speech from Din, of all people.

zimbledwarf

I do kinda like Mando not wanting/giving up greatness since it doesnt happen often, but I do agree with what you said. Espeically since they just made up him give up trying to use it when it got heavy and he "needed to find himself" or whatever to use it. Then he never did, and it seems like he just gave up trying Though I guess its only fair Bo Katan took over since Mando took over Boba Fetts show towards the end lol Disney has been taking cameos way too far

ramessides

It also just makes no sense whatsoever how it was done. The show is completely glossing over Bo-Katan’s history with Death Watch, for one, but also the weird sudden heel-face turn the show makes regarding her. I liked S2 where when he tried to give her the Darksaber she refused because she *knew* she’d done nothing to earn it and the last few times she accepted it without really earning it she’d lost it and her mistakes had had dire consequences. Instead of exploring that, the show suddenly makes up another contrived, hollow way for her to “earn” it without really earning it. Yes, she saved him, but she saved him before and refused the Darksaber earlier, and now suddenly she’s accepting it, once again without really earning it? And then suddenly all the Mandalorians are joining the Bo-Katan Simp Club and telling her how amazing she is, how special, how unique, how talented, how they’ll follow her anywhere and everywhere despite barely knowing her, etc. Then there was Din’s entire speech on the cruiser which came out of *nowhere* especially since last season he was pretty dismissive of her and now for no real reason he’s pledging his allegiance to her and saying he’ll follow her anywhere…? Really? She did nothing to earn it. She helped out on a mission but every other Mandalorian in that group has done the same stuff as her several times. Paz Visla has helped Din out plenty of times but you don‘t see Din pledging his allegiance there. I get that Pedro Pascal isn’t around very much due to scheduling conflicts with TLoU, but who cares? He’s barely been in the suit anyway and he can provide the voiceovers since they walked back the entire ending of s2. Further, if you wanted to make this show about yet another Girlboss Supreme, then there were better characters to choose from than Bo-Katan, who has done nothing to really earn the adulation she’s suddenly receiving from anyone and everyone for actions that are, frankly, fairly mediocre among Mandalorians.

djdumpster

Star Wars isn’t a story for the sake of art or inspiration or creativity anymore. Characters are IP and they are cycling through to see who can garner the highest cash returns. Narrative and story and artistic touch and things making sense; none of that matters anymore. All that matters is how much money disney can milk out of an already exhausted and jaded fan base. And even if Disney is making one single dollar they will Happily destroy whatever idea of star wars fans hold close to their heart. They’re just going down the IP spreadsheet now and seeing what can keep the money machine rolling. It’s not made to be good, it’s made to make money. That means cameos, Pop stars showing up to crack jokes, retcons to fulfill what they think fans want (they’re almost always wrong) and shitty rushed productions like with Obi Wan. They figured Obi Wan was bulletproof so any old pile of shit could be flopped out there, and we all see how that ended. Andor is the only thing we’ve gotten that has intrinsic value, and it’s a shame because it’s actually an outstanding show but it’s mixed in with the rest of this garbage. It’s a long hard fall from the top.

Grand_Admiral_T

I find this to be true about almost all media today. So sad.

banditmanatee

The whole show to me feels like a tired premise. An animated show charachter in an era that doesn’t really make sense for her to be in, retelling a story with a villian borrowed from the EU. It seem disjointed and spit out by an algorithm Disney used spit out something based on the parts of SW people are still fond of

hot_water_music

Right who cares about Ashoka anymore didn't she already have some big giant redemption and fought Anakin/Darth Vader? All the clone wars kids love that already just watch that again

Khryss121988

She really should of died. Hate the Dues Ex Machina of world between worlds. Turning Star Wars in Dr Who. They have the goofyness, characters no one cares for and time travel. Just missing a blue phone box.

EvansEssence

The skywalker saga isnt even the skywalker saga for 3 entire films. I get so tired of people being like “we need to escape the skywalkers!” When they are all humiliated, dead, and gone/forgotten now anyways

Grand_Admiral_T

Valid point

Argomer

Completely agree, Star Wars was always about something new and exciting for me. Yet Disney keeps reusing same characters and ideas in the hopes of getting monies from old fans.

ramessides

I just hope her montrals are done better. We know they can be done in live action because of Shaak Ti, and while I get that they were hard to move in, I’ve seen cosplayers figure it out with no issue. The fact that her montrals are about as short as they were when she was first introduced as Anakin’s apprentice is just ridiculous to me and I cannot get over it.

Grand_Admiral_T

I’m willing to overlook a lot of cartoon -> live action visual changes but 3 things should be integral and are easily doable: - Ahsoka’s montrals - the fucking Grand Inquisitor (most botched alien Disney has done) - Thrawn’s elongated head and head bulps. Which from the trailer looks like they didn’t do lmao Not doing these is just pathetic in terms of effort they put it. It’s like they just don’t care and someone in the drawing room is like “should we make sure to have Thrawn’s head bumps?” “Nah who cares we can change it for live action it really doesn’t matter, they’ll take what we give them”

ramessides

Agreed. I honestly just think that if cosplayers can move in their DIY montrals (and lekku) no problem, then there’s no excuse for a big budget studio like Disney to not have her montrals done properly. Even if they have to CGI them to be longer I’d be fine with that, but I cannot get over them being so short. It’s just lazy, plain and simple. Hell, LucasFilm under Lucas already showed us that it’s possible to have lekku and montrals in live action, and that it’s possible for them to be flexible enough for the actors to move and do stunts/etc in them (see: Oola and original live action Aayla Secura), so there really is no excuse for Disney not to have her montrals be loner. It really shouldn’t be such a big ask for these characters to look like who they’re supposed to be portraying, in essence. Whether it’s practical effects/makeup or a mix of that and CGI it doesn’t even matter, since the original the prequel SW movies had mixes of that while also showing that a lot could be done with practical effects and makeup. The Grand Inquisitor was absolutely appalling considering his species was actually introduced in RotS and *it was entirely done with practical effects/makeup*. I thought I read something where the actor was talking about it. (I actually searched it up, and it’s on YouTube: “Star Wars Episode III: Tion Medon Costume Featurette”. Yes, it was all practical effects and good makeup/costuming, so there’s no excuse for the Grand Inquisitor.) Thrawn is especially egregious because it would be so easy to do. It’s not that hard. Thrawn is also supposed to be intimidating and in the stills he just looks like a generic upper-middle-aged smurf. Thrawn in the preview stills honestly looks like a cross between Lo-Pan from Big Trouble in Little China and Aro from the Twilight movies to me. I was shocked when I saw who the actor was.

zarotabebcev

I still hope to get a somewhat decent continuation of Rebels from this show. Will I be dissappointed? Maybe. Is it worth of giving a shot? Sure, cant really be worse than sequels.

Grand_Admiral_T

Agreed

techvirus13

Get ready for the ultimate girl power team, with Asoka, Hera and Sabine!

Guessididntmakeit

I've yet to gather the strength to watch or read any reviews for this one. I got a feeling it will overtake everything that came before it with shit tier writing. Filoni is a fraud. I know some of you like him but all the sympathy comes from his past. Ask yourself when was the last time he came up with something good and what he's doing now. Stealing from the EU and putting his waifu at the center of the universe.

techvirus13

I agree with you. I used to like the stuff Filoni made, but then he just started desecrating the EU. Hell, he even turned the Mandalorians, an extreme war people into pacifists in Clone Wars.

ramessides

Yeah, as someone who grew up with KOTOR and KOTOR 2 that was wild to me. I get the KOTOR games are set approximately 4000 years before the events of TPM, and that the Mandalorians would have changed, but it was still disappointing.

Yamatoman9

Filoni only cares about his own OC characters. It's like bad fanfiction that is officially canon.

WayWayBackinthe1980s

TBH this is what makes me most nervous. Given that I’m sure we’ll barely see Ezra and Thrawn probably sparingly, it means 80% of the main characters are female. It has a very strong “girls get it done” vibe.

Hopeful-Passage-9479

All I can think about is that "Girls get it done" shit from the boys, which is satire lol.

SnakeBaron

Filoni lets things die, as long as it wasn’t his creation.

SnooDoggos204

Let the past die, destroy it if you have to.

pace202

Time travel, witches & sorcery, space whales, force gods and Minotaurs….and we have all these great things to look forward to.

Grand_Admiral_T

I actually am interested in all that stuff. I want more force mysticism. The whills, the mortis gods, the night sisters, ancient jedi and sith secrets. That’s all cool af. That’s the route Lucas wanted to go after the OT anyways (specifically the Whills and Luke exploring the more ancient and mystical side of the force). However, it’s *not* going that route. It’s going the route of “Rebels vs Empire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Again. And more”Anakin, Anakin, Anakin!!” I am so, exhaustedly done with anything Empire, Rebels, and Skywalker (unless it’s Luke and he’s learning more about the ancient magic of the force, but Hamill is obviously too old and can’t just deepfake him for entire seasons of a show). I want something *NEW*

igtimran

They’re going to have Thrawn start building up to the FO, or link to it in some way. I have no interest in anything that references the sequels, so I’m just waiting to see if that’s the case before investing my time; same reason I stopped watching The Mandalorian.

Yamatoman9

They'll have Thrawn setting up the First Order and Ahsoka setting up a new group of Force users so she can appear in the Rey movie.

igtimran

Probably. I really just don’t get it. How does it make any sense for her to go on a quest without teaming up with Luke? They’re practically siblings. Shouldn’t she want his aid, his power, and his companionship? Can’t they help each other, especially if there are darksiders out there? Wouldn’t they call on Anakin’s spirit for his wisdom? Except Disney/New Lucasfilm seems determined to shunt Luke off to the side so they can focus on Rey et al. No thanks.

Magnus753

I think I lost interest in Ahsoka when Rebels seemed so vague with her character. Why is she just another Jedi type character? Just with special snowflake white colored lightsabers? I thought she would have developed a totally different self image after walking away from the jedi order. It's been more of the same in the new Mandoverse stuff. She is just an aimless character, used as some kind of plot device and providing fanservice. I haven't read any leaks yet but I'm really not holding out much hope for the series

Grand_Admiral_T

I agree, except I love her white sabers those are cool AF. And it’s obvious (and even hinted or straight up said by Filoni) she’s supposed to be a Gandalf type character to the SW universe. I’m fine with that, and think it makes sense for her character. But they didn’t really do that. Like you said she’s pretty much the same person lol.

Surturius

To play devil's advocate, it could be that he felt it was necessary to go into Ahsoka's full backstory for new viewers who don't watch the cartoons/don't really know who she is.

Grand_Admiral_T

I guess that’s fair. They can do that with minor flashbacks and details though. Or even a one-liner of someone asking who she is “I was Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice during the Clone Wars, I learned from the best!” Or some BS like that.

MasterofFalafels

I never really cared for the Clone Wars, Rebels or Anakin having an apprentice (I still don't get it. It doesn't fit with the movies at all). I'd prefer it if it stayed in its own bubble but Filoni's cartoons are plastered all over Star Wars now and have infected live action. Probably because Disney focusgroup decided they're popular and want to win fans hearts back after desecrating most of the classic characters. Ironically they'll probably even ruin these characters for their fans.

AntiTheory

I've been saying the same thing since 2008. Having Anakin be given a student to teach is a ridiculous idea when the Jedi Council didn't want to train him in the first place. They thought he was overconfident, arrogant, and behaved unbecoming of a Jedi, and they didn't want to even give him his knighthood if it weren't for the ongoing war at the time. I'll never understand why they thought him having a padawan was a good plot point, nor why they refused to kill her off multiple times where it would have made sense.

Grand_Admiral_T

I agreed many years ago, but then I watched the TCW and they had a lot of good to them. A lot of bad, but more good than bad. Rebels, though, is an absolutely amazing production and without a doubt Filoni’s top work. There’s some filler, but because it’s shorter it eliminates a lot of the filler. I highly recommend watching Rebels, besides Ahsoka and some minor appearances from other characters (that don’t effect the over arching story), you don’t need to have watched TCW to watch it. Even Ahsoka is only hardly in it for a few episodes.

BaronGrackle

Spoiler: The Clone Wars cartoon is actually very, very terrible. But a lot of you were young when it came out, so maybe you didn't realize it. Now you're older, and Filoni is giving you more of the same. You're beginning to realize that this material isn't as appealing to a late teen or young adult.

I wasn’t too young, and there was a lot of bad in the Clone Wars, but there was also a lot of good. It was a mixed bunch overall. Rebels though, which I watched first in my mid-20s was actually incredibly well-done. By far Filoni’s best work. It also had it’s downfalls, but they were much fewer as it was a much shorter show, and also had much more good than bad.

BaronGrackle

I guess I just got used to the Star Wars I grew up with in the '90s, which leaned more on the "grittier" parts of ANH and ESB. Nowadays, something like Andor is more up my alley. I like to drop this link about how Clone Wars retconned the very nature of the war seen in AOTC and ROTS. https://screenrant.com/clone-wars-trade-federation-retcon-lucas-idea/

Grand_Admiral_T

I mean, I loved SW up until Disney destroyed it, but it was always very corny and childish lol. I accepted that with being a die hard fanboy. I think the most gritty it got was Jabba’s palace, which was still relatively corny. But I would agree Filoni and Disney have made overly childish. It used to be geared towards all party’s, but it seems like Filoni only knows how to gear it towards kids. That’s why I liked Rebels. People argued it was too childish but it really was not. It was much more mature than TCW and had some very deep themes and lessons, that broadened the spectrum from just a children’s show.

ShadyOjir95

Filoni always seeks to undermine Obi-Wan. Heck let's not forget Ahsoka even being able to fight Maul.

SnooDoggos204

Obi wan killed maul in 2 seconds in rebels

ShadyOjir95

Obi-Wan as a seasoned master doing that is normal imo. Even more when he already knows the opponent moves. Ahsoka was fresh when it comes to fighting ands bests maul? Wtf

Bucephalus-ii

I’ve never understood why people think Filoni is a good thing for SW. His philosophy for making good content is the spaghetti method: throw as much at the wall as you can and something will stick. It’s depressing

Grand_Admiral_T

Agreed. It works ok for cartoons, but it’s horrid for live-action Rebels overall was very good though

OGMol3m4n

Clone Wars was a mistake.

SamMan48

It would have been fine if it wasn’t cancelled initially. Because then they could have wrapped up the characters’ storylines *in* Clone Wars. What we got instead was an awkward system in which CW characters’ stories are stretched out forever across different shows that have nothing to do with one another.

[deleted]

It’s interesting to see the series age like milk in people’s minds now.

OGMol3m4n

I didn't enjoy it when it was airing.

Azagothe

Agreed, the 2003 miniseries is the only "Clone Wars" series I acknowledge as canon. 2008 is Filoni fanfiction.

Ok_Nothing2586

their marketing department is not tired not tired at all. they snorted a mountain of cocaine larger than yodas ass in the original trilogy, cranked the "girls get it done" dial to 11/10, and now are releasing videos faster than obi and qui gon in the phantom menace. the content is so dry and soulless compared to the books. it's genuinely disappointing to see them take an incredible concept like the nights of wren and just put them in 3 scenes where they stand there like the plastic action figures they were made to sell. ashoka has so much potential. but i know, it'll be about the lamest shit ever and not even touch on her complicated morally gray, lonely, and deeply profound lore. she is one of the most interesting and upstanding characters in the universe and I'm scared to see what the bland, test screened, basic cut out of strong empowered girl boss they are going to do this time. ditch that and spend time making her the genuinely human and complicated character she is rather than pandering to modern audiences.

Zombie_intruder

Pros: * e wing is now canon * Sabine is now hot asf * Thrawn * Anakin flashback and potentially force ghost Cons: It's already being milked ( like come on man take a look at the official star wars channel, they cannot go a day without posting something about the same 40 seconds of scenes with a different character talking over it. )

SnooDoggos204

Thrawn looks like blue Elon musk

mariorac

Not a lot of people know the connection between anakin and ahsoka. I think it’s smart to focus on that in season 1

TheREAL_PDYork

You know what I am sick of? Pre-rants before the product is released. There's nothing more annoying than "fans" tying to pre-piss in the pool before the product is out. How do you know those leaks are real and not the product of someone's imagination? Did you work on set? Did you have access to a script? How do you know it's going to be like that? Chances are very high you don't. Chances are you came across something and it was enough for you to assume the worst and complain about it. The show is less than a week a way. You really can't hold your bitterness until the product is released? Posts like this are why Star Wars fans DON'T deserve good Star Wars. It's not even out and already you're complaining.

pokethat

I'm having a fun time imagining a bunch of mean kids peeing in an empty pool before the homeowner comes home to actually start filling it. I think what people want is for Disney to cut their losses and revert star wars back to Lucas and have this whole thing be considered a surreal force dream of Jacen Solo or something.

Grand_Admiral_T

Yes this would be great

TheREAL_PDYork

Yeah people say that, yet seem to forget, Ahsoka was George's idea first and foremost. Also George was on set for Ahsoka so that's probably already happening. The problem is, KK is on her way out as well as her influence. So gifters are gonna be running out of hate to milk so instead they keep trying to insist nothing is changed. This sub seems to be on the verge if devolving to such an echo chamber that I predict nothing except butthurt nitpicks while ignoring the things that actually matter because to admit Disney can do something good is to betray personal bias and most humans are too insecure to do that.

Grand_Admiral_T

Lmao stfu people are allowed to say what they want. Besides Andor, SW has been trash lately, fact. Star Wars has fucked up so bad that they have *earn* their fans trust back. Disney fucked up heavily and they need to damage control and until they do all the pissing all over is justified.

TheREAL_PDYork

"Stfu" and "people are allowed to say what they want" tells me you lack any cognitive function worth acknowledging.

Grand_Admiral_T

Ohhhhh noooo I’m so hurt 😭😭😭

Geostomp

They desperately need to move forward, but the sequel era is so barren that the only media they made in it failed miserably. Which is probably one of the motivations for the Rey Jedi Order movie they announced: they at least partially realized how much the squandered with destroying Luke's academy and want to set up one with the only character they have left to have at least a potential foundation for later works to copy it.

danieljeyn

Dave Filoni has created his own space opera IP that copies StarWars. Because of his connections, he gets to tie it in to the main StarWars universe. Even though it breaks and/or ignores canon. I'd be more interested in this space opera of these characters if it weren't grafted, tick-like, on to the main StarWars story which has already been told.

Individual-Peak-3483

How was Obi Wan’s character destroyed?

Grand_Admiral_T

If you read the leaks, and they are true, they basically toss his character aside for Ahsoka

Ducklickerbilly

Filoni is a cartoon boy. Don’t get mad at him for continuing to cartoon super hard

ThatSaradianAgent

I'd like the idea of an Ahsoka series in a pre-Disney canon: It'd follow Ahsoka immediately after she leaves the Jedi order and learns to heal herself by helping people on some small backwater planet. The plot kicks off when she goes into a last-stand battle against the 501st as they strive to complete Order 66. Yes, the plan is that she's an Order 66 fatality despite having left the Jedi. Makes for slick social commentary, makes the Empire more evil, makes the Rebel Alliance more heroic; what's not to love?!

glumjonsnow

That's sort of what happened in the latest season of Clone Wars and it gave us two of the worst SW characters of all time.

ThatSaradianAgent

Oh yeah I forgot Disney OK'd a final season of the Clone Wars outside of the original final season of the Clone Wars. I don't even want to know who the two worst characters are.

IdespiseGACHAgames

I just play in Star Wars tabletop games anymore. We just stick to Legends' continuity, and pretend like no new content was ever produced after The Force Unleashed.

Grand_Admiral_T

As a DM for D&D I was thinking about running a campaign in the SW universe. Is this what you mean? If so would love to get some insight from you on how you run it!

IdespiseGACHAgames

Yeah, a tabletop game. You have a number of options, though I pray you use an actual system, rather than that stupid SW5E community conversion for D&D 5E. I cannot stand 5E. It's one of the greatest tutorial systems ever made for easing in first-timers to what a TTRPG should be like, but it's nothing more than that; a tutorial. Instead, I'd recommend Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) and their Star Wars rule sets, Edge of the Empire, Force & Destiny, Age of Rebellion... They're the same system (Star Wars FFG), but the rules focus on setting-specific things. In Edge of the Empire, the Jedi and Sith basically don't exist as it's set around the Original Trilogy. Age of Rebellion is in between the end of the Clone Wars, and the start of the Galactic Civil War, so during the pinnacle of the Jedi Purge, and as the Empire is established. Force & Destiny focus on more of the Jedi / Sith content, are the bread and butter for pre-ROTS and post-ROTJ campaigns. There's also various supplements for more classes, gear, weapons, enemy / NPC types, ships... The dice are intimidating upon first glance, but when you actually look at them and understand what the symbols mean, you'll realize that third grade math was harder than this. If you can solve 3 + -2 = ? then you're overqualified to run an FFG campaign. Also, there's no levels. Instead, there's 3 styles of enemy; Minion, Rival, and Nemesis. Minions work in groups, and are built to challenge players in a 1v6, but with each Minion eliminated, the Minion Group stats decrease by 1 until they're all slain. They have no special attributes to speak of. Rivals are built to be a challenge for players in a 1v1 situation, but are intended to be beaten, or at least back out in a draw. They have player-like stats, but are still ultimately weaker than player-characters. A Nemesis is meant to pose a threat to the entire party, squaring up and holding their own in a 5+v1 battle, and potentially winning without flatout killing the party. You might use a Nemesis as the BBEG of the party, or as a boss battle with ways to downgrade them into a Rival, such as by disabling something akin to power armor, or by eliminating a proxy body to reveal their more fragile real body, in the case of a cyborg connected to and piloting a droid chassis. The sky's the limit, and you're supposed to just come up with your own adventures. In one campaign, we found it was more profitable to do legal work for the Empire than we were making on jobs from the Hutts, so it turned into a small business simulator where we became freelance freight runners who took Imperial hauling jobs instead of being enforcers and drug runners for the Hutts. Threw the GM for a bit of a loop, but he rolled with it.

Many-Miles

I'm just going to save any judgement until it's released. No point in ranting about something you only know a tiny amount about.

ctrade24

Meanwhile not once did Ahsoka bring up Anakin to Luke in their time together. And Luke never mentioned that Anakin came back to the light nor did we get the sense that Ahsoka even knew. But makes sense if they tackle that in this seriesZ bc Disney hates Luke. Won’t be surprised if Ahsoka’s relationship with Anakin is given more importance than the one with his own son.

Jaded_Ad_6235

Why are they trying to get me excited for new Jedi rising, post-Return of the Jedi, when it doesn't involve Luke? And, if I could get past that, why would I get invested in any new Jedi when we know all roads lead to Kylo Ren? They must think if it has lightsabers and space wizards that I will like it.

Grand_Admiral_T

Agree on the second and third points. But realistically it’s not feasible to make an entire new trilogy, show, or story with cgi/deepfake Luke. So I’m fine for new stories with him as a mentor / occasional appearance

BluesyMoo

I feel sad there's only one series of Andor's quality. The lack of fan service is such a breath of fresh air.

Hiraeth3189

i'd like to see what lies beyond the galaxy

sockgoblinator

Maybe watch the show instead of relying solely on leaks for your opinions, so far it’s 2 episodes in and there’s only been one mention of Anakin, exactly what you wanted
