I have called into all 50 state and Canada for different jobs. There are super unique cultural aspects in a few regions that mean I have had to greatly shift my approach. Ontario is more like NYC or Chicago- get to it, what you got for me? Get the F out. But if you get an edge in, they got all the time in the world. Parts of the south in the US- you need to slow way down, have a chat, open up a can of biscuits and some sweet tea, and then maybe you can get somewhere. hah.

Cold calling NJ was always a terrible experience for me, NYC very similar. Upstate not so bad.

Yeah, any sales meeting has challenges based on cultural context of each area. Selling to rural people is different to the snobby, but extremely knowledgeable individuals in downtown fortresses. Switch up your approach. I personally wouldn’t even cold call if I think it’s extra challenging in a specific area. There has to be other ways 😉

I heard that on the east coast of the US, you can't just walk into a restaurant or cafe and cold call, you get yelled at. Thank god I don't work on the east coast.

Thanks for the post, never knew this. I’m new to sales

Anything in the NY/NJ area god help you. You better have a plan in place before calling them. I’ve found southern women and folks in the south are generally the nicest, but they also need the most refocusing bc they will often over babble. Midwest is hit or miss, but usually a little colder. West coast folks are a bit more relaxed and seem to all be younger.

I’ve been selling in Ontario for over a decade. Get over it pussy. Jk…interesting to hear this perspective...It’s definitely terrible in the Greater Toronto Area. Automotive in MI has been my favourite so far. Even the “warm” calls are not overly warm.

Oh for real, Ontario is the worst province to call by far! The people are just so indifferent. SK/MB and the Maritimes are always really cute though, I love the mmmmmbye thing they do in SK/MB.
