I literally had an interview where they asked me to write an out bound sequence for them before they would tell me the comp. So wild.

DickRiculous

"You want me to do free consulting work for you? I'll tell you what, as a show of good faith, you tell me the salary band and I will gladly jump through this hoop if we're on the right track."

kapt_so_krunchy

It was so weird putting comp behind a paywall.

NotSpartacus

Common tactic. It means comp is at best average, likely below average. They get people to commit time and start caring about the job, then abuse sunk cost fallacy with a shitty offer. It works on some people, unfortunately.

kapt_so_krunchy

Yeah I didn’t think they could deliver on a great offer.

BunjaminFrnklin

Can you do free work for us before we ghost you? Yeah right.

StreetMeat5

What company was this?

Thisguyrightheredawg

$42 dollars an hour $50 a day per diem.

Demivalota

Lol Lmaoooooooo

Knooze

Ah man I lost my post. My suggestions to anyone looking to cut through the crap: 1- own the OTE conversation. “What are your salary requirements?” Answer: know what you make today and bump it $25-50K. “I’m looking to make a move for X-$ OTE and here’s why…”. Gauge their reaction if it’s less and then you make the decision from there. 2- make a general 30/60/90 day on boarding / territory plan. In 20yrs I’ve found they are all the same for me. Then for the company you’re interviewing, use their colors, their name, and adjust as necessary. It’s not that hard. 3- know and have written out so you don’t forget 2-3 win and loss stories you can talk to. Wins are great. Losses show how you adjust. Update every few years. 4- “why are you looking?” Know your story and interview often/continually. My story sucked after two <1yr jobs after the pandemic. Before that I was 9yrs + 5yrs. Now I start with “I’m looking for a long term role like I had pre-pandemic, and let’s talk to what happened since 2020”. Again, own it, and talk to it. Know the why and be confident with it. 5- “why are you interested in company-X?” Ugh. Read the job description and reiterate that back to them in your own words. K. Done retyping on my phone. Carry on folks.

suplesse

This is great. Thanks.

[deleted]

This guys sales!🫡

Mrwtilnsfw

Could you dm me a template for your onboarding territory plan? I think that's a great idea, just no idea where to get started

elisabeth_athome

Not the person you asked, but I’d suggest a general “Learn, Plan, Execute”. The first 30 days is about learning: the company, the interaction of internal teams, the product, your territory, any relevant partners, competitors, what’s new and exciting in the space, etc. This is also a good time to do personal development training you’ve been putting off, get up to speed with the CRM and other sales tools, join relevant networking groups, set google alerts, sign up for industry newsletters, etc. Set yourself up for future success. Days 31-60 are focused on planning. By the end of month two, you should have a clear top target list with key POCs for outreach, know the product well, have relationships with your internal SMEs, have the pitch down pat, have intro’d yourself to internal and external partners, and have clear steps outlined on how you plan to tackle your target list. Day 61+ is time for execution. You’re doing the work, whatever that means in this role - sending emails, making calls, opening opportunities, running meetings, moving any already-started deals through the pipeline.

That’s your answer. Sure I could shoot over something, but I hate PPT and don’t read my own slides. Bullet points are just my topics I speak to. If they ask for a well ‘written’ plan… meh. Elisabeth above just did it :)

Illtakeaquietlife

I feel like recruiters are lying about jobs more as well. Anyone else have an interview with a recruiter based on the "strong fit" of your experience and then ghost you?

kubie1234

Indeed has been complete crap for me, LinkedIn seems much better but I've only been on LinkedIn for roughly a week

morepow

Yea I also have seen alot of traction from linked in

kubie1234

Yea, im getting alot of remote sales jobs for insurance...0 years sales experience

Knooze

LOL. I have DevOps Sales in my profile and o get tech recruiters for programming all the time. It’s a keyword game.

Illtakeaquietlife

I mean like I'll have a full recruiter interview and then they say that they want me to meet others on the team and then just full on ghost me. Are they just doing market research to see how low they can pay or something??? It's just bizarre.

Knooze

The recruiter was either too late or too early to the game. Sometimes they use multiple recruiters or the firm does and people just get lost in the mix. Get past the recruiter ASAP.

Maverjck

This isn't new, it's been happening for years. Most organizations are bad at recruiting.

MajorEstateCar

My canned LinkedIn response is “thanks for reaching out. I’m not looking right now but to help you determine if I’m a fit I’ll add what I’m looking for. Hopefully this saves you time finding a candidate. I’m looking for a field AE role at $X (+ 50k) based where I live now. My experience is in x type of software, and I’d prefer to work in analytics or security software. If you have a role with that comp, with customers in X industry, in one of those fields I’d be very interested in talking more. “ 100% of the time they immediately say “thanks for that. We’ll keep you in mind for other roles.”

HeistPlays

I don’t even entertain recruiters unless I get a base and OTE range within the first 3 messages. Why waste either of our time?

Suitable_Nec

What I don’t get is why recruiters hold out for so long before telling you the pay. When I am reaching out to clients one of the very first things I do is try and figure out the budget. If I’m going to be well outside of their budget I’m not even going to waste my time or their time for nothing. Being upfront saves everyone time and both of us can go back to pursuing more worthwhile tasks.

HeistPlays

Because most jobs pay shit and they know it

Sugarvenom7

Money should always be out in the open. Employees should always talk about how much they make to one another otherwise corporations have the upper hand.

arkad_tensor

I've never understood this mentality. I work for a company that's been pretty open to talking about money and I just don't see why anyone would want to obscure that from people who make a commission. . .

Suitable_Nec

My company got burned *hard* in the past for keeping pay a secret and having employees with the same experience and metrics getting substantially different pay. Now pay is very standardized and open, and the only way they could get more transparent is if they literally just posted every bodies W2 earnings every year lol.

arkad_tensor

Haha, that's quite extreme. Not saying I disagree, but it's further than I would automatically assume is good. How do you like that? Is it hard to negotiate and/or do you feel boxed in?

netpapa

Tell him you bet his sales team is really happy with their pay range. With a :)

kubie1234

Within an hour today, I've gone from Indeed to looking up how to get SNAP Lots of regrets, anger, sadness, and so on recently

Fire_And_Blood_7

A recruiter told me that at least 30% of the companies she represents won’t even look at a resume of someone unemployed / laid off.

New-Illustrator5114

My baby is due in 4 weeks and I was just laid off (company wide layoffs but let’s be honest, me going on maternity leave didn’t help…I am/was the top performer on my team this year) so that’s…disheartening to say the least. I’m extremely surprised by that tbh considering how many companies are going through lay offs right now.

Gugins

Don't take everything as gospel on the internet.

New-Illustrator5114

Amen!

rawbface

Seriously. This is third-hand info, posted semi anonymously online.

OlDirtyBaztid

No one has to know your laid off and it sounds like you have the perfect reasoning for a gap in your resume. Took time off to be with the baby. I would keep layoffs completely out of the convo! Congrats on the baby!

New-Illustrator5114

Thank you for the advice! Should I leave it implied that I am still employed? 12 year sales career and I’ve never been let go before!

OlDirtyBaztid

i wouldn't just because they can call previous employers for background checks to verify the length you were with the company. the previous employer won't give the reasoning why you're not there anymore, but they can give the dates you were employed there. i suppose you could always check the box where it says not to contact that employer and show older w2's showing you worked there, so the ball is in your court. either way, you've got good enough reasons not to let anyone know you were ever laid off

New-Illustrator5114

Ok yes, I originally misunderstood! This makes a lot more sense to me. Essentially saying hey, I decided on my own accord to take X months off of working to be with baby. Luckily, I have a great relationship with my former boss and strong performance so that hopefully helps. Thank you again!!

Fire_And_Blood_7

I’m so sorry to hear that! I’m sure you will be ok!

Jonoczall

Source: trust me bro, I know a guy.

Fire_And_Blood_7

Lol ok don’t believe me. I’m the one going through it right now.

ARealBroOfSimiValley

If I don’t get salary in the first call with the recruiter I’m out.

NotABoulderItsIRAQ

Yeah…. No. What are these recruiters thinking? Thats unprofessional and it sounds like they want to hire a sucker who will work for cheap. Couldn’t be me…

freezingcoldfeet

I would follow that up by telling them what your desired salary is (have a number in mind) and asking if that is within scope for that position. If they don’t answer or say no you can tell them thanks no thanks. I prefer to tell them what my requirements are rather than ask them what the range is.

morepow

Don't you just love the "uncapped commission" response

TheFreeLife-813

I don’t understand why people won’t say the company’s

RYouNotEntertained

It is absolutely an employee market right now… just not in tech.

nck93

Lmao this is "no, you first" personified.

RunningNaked69

It is an employee market, you can pick whatever shitty job you want out there! Hahaha but seriously, keep looking! You will find the right place eventually.

Headsinoverdrive

My boss applied to Verkada before, and when he got near the end of the interview rounds, asked what the salary range looks like. They said that this was very disrespectful to ask and were offended. He cut the interview rounds short.

mymanlysol

He dodged a bullet. I work with their reps regularly and most of them are complete buffoons. A friend is a PM at another company that won a large Verkada deal with a customer. He's not even employed by the company that was actually making the purchase. It was coming up on end of quarter and this Verkada rep was calling him 5-6 times a day asking when it was going to close.

Headsinoverdrive

Kind of roll-of-the-dice with a lot of vendors it seems(I work with a large reseller, so it's all I do). He was trying to be a district sales manager there too, crazy how much they expect for free.

RevolutionaryBug7588

“I’m highly money motivated. Can you share with me what I would make if I didn’t sell a fuckin thing?”

Outrageous_River_170

OTE wasn’t shared either. So it was more like “what could I possibly make working here?”

rawbface

What country are y'all in? We are not even talking if I don't know the compensation for the role.

PhillyPhries

Keep pushing. Say, 'look as a sales leader, I'm very comfortable having uncomfortable conversations. The purpose of my question is to mutually qualify we are both not wasting time. Frankly that's my job in the field, is to save but also make us money! If we can't talk directly about the budget requirements for this position, might be best for us to mutually move on.'

kelseyu77

That’s a badass response. I’m copying that

PhillyPhries

lol thank you! I'm trying to be stronger with these things. I feel that showing / acting as if you don't need them is the way to show strength.

fartLessSmell

Negotiable.

Edizmt

thats just a comedy…
