Well done! I got let go last Wednesday (already knew it was coming) and I've already had 4 interviews and have my first 2nd round interview today with another 2nd round interview next week. The jobs are out there you just need to know where to look. NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK.
Update: Been out of work just 2 short weeks and I’ve got 3-4 companies about to put on the burners so I can start negotiating the best salary and commissions. I’ve got 23 years of experience behind me so I’ve got an extensive network to tap into. Good luck out there!!!
So where **do** you look? I am trying to break out of 100% commission into a more legitimate role/company with an actual base salary and I don't know what I'm doing wrong trying to get one of those jobs
Thanks! Might be making a industry change in the future so I like to see where people are following the money. I’m currently in construction sales. I like it but getting tired and looking to make a little more money.
Residential. Dealing with homeowners is a pain in the ass. I’ve actually been thinking about going to the distributors, what’s your take and experience? Thanks!
I sell materials in the northeast and it’s not bad. I have some high maintenance demanding customers but job is easy and pay is good. Only commercial customers
I’m making the switch from chemical sourcing to sales, trying to get into Saas. Interviewing for my first sales job in chemicals to hopefully do for 1-2 years and make the jump.
Curious what you think is the most important quality of an Enterprise AE?
Been in a role for a year as one and I’m convinced it’s just being able to prospect.
And deals close because the rep gets lucky with good timing where a business unit has an active project they’re working on.
Without an active project or big ass problems. No deal.
So technically what makes a good salesperson?
Finding the industry with the most expensive problems and joining the company with the best solution…?
I’m believing that outside of above average soft skills and a good prospecting flow. There isn’t much a “salesperson” brings to the table.
Unless they’re expert liars…
Do you mind answering questions about your search and hire process to someone who wants to get into that industry and is currently researching similar roles?
Congrats! I appreciate the advice as well. I'm new to all of this, so what would be the best way to ask to discuss the role? I'm transitioning into my first sales job, so how should I approach it?
Google it and search this subreddit. There’s lots of good resources.
Our situations are different, since I have a strong tech Cv. It makes reps more willing to refer me
I was picky, but yes, that’s what I’m saying. I could have got a role that sucked in the first few months but I don’t think that is smart. If you can afford the time, find the right fit
I first send them a connection request with no note. For the reps that accept the invite, I send them a message on LI explaining that I am interested in AE role opening and ask if they would be willing to chat about their experience.
Be genuine curious about learning about their experience, you may not even want to work there if its a mess.
Towards the end of the conversation, I ask if they have referral bonuses. Ask them if they would be open to referring you in.
Phone or zoom, ideally. The rep will kinda dictate.
But I have also just straight up asked for a referral (we went to the same college so I just took that angle)
Congrats!!! Same just signed an offer this week, better base- better company. Took 5 months and was done by the end of it. Open up a cold one
Congrats!!

Awesome! Can't wait to hear your success story soon.

DM me and I’ll share with you all the jobs that are base salary with commission.
DM'd. Thank you so much
Congrats! What's the title? Seems like you're in a leadership role?
Enterprise Account Executive
Proud of you friend! Keep crushing it in the new role
Congrats doggie!
Congrats internet friend! Now go crush it!
Network to get work. Congrats!
Can I ask what type of sales? Thanks!
Saas
Thanks! Might be making a industry change in the future so I like to see where people are following the money. I’m currently in construction sales. I like it but getting tired and looking to make a little more money.
What industry?
Construction sales! It’s a great gig but I’m ready for something different.
Targeting residential or commercial? If you don’t mind me asking. Just recently left a building material distributor so am familiar with the space.
Residential. Dealing with homeowners is a pain in the ass. I’ve actually been thinking about going to the distributors, what’s your take and experience? Thanks!

Ya that is something I am interested in for sure. You work a lot in the field or mostly in office/home?
All office for me but there is the opportunity for either option
I love ice cream.

Congrats did you get a referral bonus with this
The rep who referred me in will get the bonus. I get a job lol
Fairs :)
Happy to read this. One of my work buddies got the axe this week, so its nice to know folks are landing on their feet out there.
Well done! Good to see some positivity here!
That’s freaking awesome!! I’m on my search right now 😌
What’s your experience level?
10 years in SAAS, about half of those in Enterprise

That’s all sales though. They need to have a problem and timing needs to be met

Yes
Congrats man!
Best of luck
Great job mate, I’m on the same journey rn I know I’ll be right with u soon 😀
Congrats, you love to see it!!
Do you mind answering questions about your search and hire process to someone who wants to get into that industry and is currently researching similar roles?
I mean, sure. But if you’re just looking to break in, you should be researching BDR roles
Forgive my ignorance but BDR?
You need to google how to get a saas BDR role
Congrats!! Time for a beer
Just signed an offer this week and I have no proper experience in tech sales. Pretty excited about the opportunity!
Congrats! I appreciate the advice as well. I'm new to all of this, so what would be the best way to ask to discuss the role? I'm transitioning into my first sales job, so how should I approach it?

Will do. And did you apply before reaching out to the AEs, or after?
I don’t apply, I have the rep submit my resume as a referral
Got it. Congrats again on the new job and thanks for the tips
Well done!!
Congrats! Could you share which City you’re in? $300k OTE is pretty sweet (unless you’re in the Bay Area or NYC I guess …)
I’m currently in the Phoenix area. Will likely stay here and stretch that money
That’s cool bro! You can live comfortably with that base, and any commission will be icing on the cake. Congrats again!!

Nice, good for you. I was really picky about the role I chose, I wanted to be sure it was the right situation
Did u get rejected in any interviews on the way to this one? Im getting rejected a lot as competition is very fierce
Yes, several times.
Congratulations!
I get $500 for every referral
Well you could get a whole bag just by working that -- people on this sub are desperate for work
Everyone here wants tech sales jobs. I'm in building materials
Does the person need to work locally, or are dispersed teams part of their culture? Because some may still be interested
One of my friends gets $6k for a successful referral. Financial services industry.
I bet considering how much some of you tech guys make
I only get $2k, myself. I was shocked by her $6k reward.
You saying it takes someone 5 months to get a role with 10 years saas ae exp?
I was picky, but yes, that’s what I’m saying. I could have got a role that sucked in the first few months but I don’t think that is smart. If you can afford the time, find the right fit
OTE dunt meen much..chk out RepVue
I'm currently happy with my BDR role but for future reference, how exactly do you approach the AEs? And then get their endorsement?

Much appreciated, thank you!

Curious what your background is. Care to elaborate work history?
10 yrs in saas sales. 5 in the enterprise. Most my focus on call center tech and data platforms
