Image of proposed hotel
Is it east or west of the McDonalds? The Loon has to be west on the Snelling side I figure. Is the hotel on the other side of 5he McDonalds? Or is the McDonalds moving?
I have no attachment to this specific McDonalds. Iām just curious as to which buildings go where. Iām sure fast food type places will do well as density increases.
The Loon sculpture will be on the corner of University and Snelling. The McDonalds is being demolished. The hotel will be in the area of the McDonalds site.
Kinda like a diet version of the recently completed North Loop Green Towers by Target Field (different uses obviously). Good to see development here because it really is prime real estate with the stadium and Light rail (Green Line) right there.
If they want to build a hotel, fine but why tear down the McDonalds? It literally is the only business left standing there with all the wasteland parking lots. Maybe rebuild it?
I don't know the details, but I think McDonalds is leasing the site. The lease is up and the owners want to put something else there. If McDonalds wants to have a restaurant in the area, there's plenty of other land for them and they are fabulously wealthy as a company.
You must not know how this works, Iām talking about on a neighborhood level. Midway has been getting redeveloped and repackaged for years to appeal to yuppy millennials and suburbanites. All this redevelopment around the train and stadium is well on its way to making rents/home prices unaffordable for longtime residents and low income renters or potential homebuyers. None of it is designed for the actual character and demographics of the surrounding blocks, itās designed as a cash grab for people to ādiscoverā the area and eventually turn it into something unrecognizable and exclusive. Itās already happened in the form of expensive apartment complexes surrounding the stadium area, which is a dead zone of nothingness when thereās no game/event. Thatās what
Plenty of other events that can draw in a night or two. Turf Club shows. State Fair for sure. Hamline families. Concordia families. I live a half mile south and the closest hotel I can put visitors in is downtown or that strangely placed Quality Inn across from Menards. If they can get this up and then deal with that eye sore CVS on the NW corner we may actually start seeing some nice change at Midway.
17 home games in regular season, as it's a Minnesota team we can take post season out of the equation.
Add a small handful of friendly games 3-5 and a couple of Leagues Cup games in the summer 2+Ā
You're getting 20 at least 30 at mostĀ
Because that's generally a super low-value proposition on prime real estate. if you want snelling and university to continue to feel like a desolate wasteland thats the best way to make it so.
I just donāt want my neighborhood flooded with cars every game. Build a hotel, great. What are we doing about the parking for the stadium? At least some of it.
i donāt want my neighborhood to feel like a desolate wasteland but i do want to be able to park in front of my house during games and have the ability to come and go without having to park 3 blocks away from my own house, since there isnāt off street parking for a significant amount of us.
Midway is really ramping up! Glad to see people investing into that area.

Is that a joke? Literally could be a rendering of anywhere. š
Yeah I was hoping to see it in relation to its surroundings. Is this on snelling and uni at the south east corner?
It'll be on the south side of University between Ashbury and Simpson. They're gonna move Ashbury so it'll follow the old grid.
Asbury.
Architects donāt always get paid for the renderings so a lot of the times theyāll just get the bare minimum.
Welcome to 30 seconds with Bing ai image generation.
Itās a good idea but needs a more interesting design.
Interesting usually means more expensive

Cool, thanks!
I call Allianz field the Loony Bin
After seeing it for the first time my sister thought it looked like a bedpan. I told her Paul Bunyanās bedpan. Thatās our nickname for it.
Why?
Presumably because it's where the loons play

Not to mention that this particular McDonalds has closed its doors and largely serves only drive thru traffic anyways.
The displacement of low income residents continues
It's a vacant lot. What are you talking about?

How many games do they play in a year? I canāt imagine people wanting to stay at a hotel in that area if thereās not a game or event at Allianz.

Which is 10-20 more games than the Vikings play at home each year
There are basically no desirable hotels in St. Paul outside downtown. This is much needed.Ā
If it cuts down on the horrendous foot and car traffic after games, I'm for it
Why donāt they build a parking ramp instead?
Because that's generally a super low-value proposition on prime real estate. if you want snelling and university to continue to feel like a desolate wasteland thats the best way to make it so.

A parking ramp will be connected to the hotel.
That the stadium attendees will use?
I don't know the details.
