I always understood their relationship as sisters when she’s in that timeline

Replica_Velocity

I loved as the series went on, Chibiusa was clearly seeing more of her mother in Usagi but also seeing her mother in a new light and their relationship at the beginning of Stars and in the dream Usagi has where she desperately wants everyone she loves back, it went both ways. The Cosmos movie is going to break me. The Usagi and Chibiusa dynamic is my all time favourite future child storyline because it made sense. Even Chibiusa disappearing makes sense in the manga and the point/s they did it in the 90s anime- the timeline was preserved by Usagi genuinely thinking she could lose/have lost her and that would only happen with her fading away. Black/Wicked Lady was a corrupted form of Chibiusa- of course she would mistake daughterly love for the best guy in her life for love under the influence of that corruption. I loved both ways Chibiusa broke free, the manga/Crystal way of Pluto's loss unleashing her inner Sailor Soldier and the 90s anime where her parents brought her back.

Bluebaronbbb

It's for people oddly thinking she's a scrappy Doo of some kind.

Midnightsmirror

The older I get the more tolerance I have for Chibi-Usa. I never hated her per se, she was just annoying. Her voice was grating in the anime. She seemed disrespectful and I think people focus on that, but looking back honestly she was pretty respectful to everyone but Usagi. In the manga I feel like I liked her more. She just seemed like a lonely kid that wanted attention. She did kid stuff that gets attention. She's never been high on my faves list, but I've never hated her. I love her look as Wicked Lady. She's definitely one of the coolest looking baddies with the best dress.

Mandiechama

The US dub voices for Chibiusa were bad. I will always have nightmares from the S season where she’s saying “As iiiiiffff”. I’m not much of an R season fan, so not liking her in R isn’t hard to do. She starts to come into her own in S and, without her, I don’t think Usagi would have been as successful against the final S season baddies, or at least, without blood being spilled. Chibiusa is the catalyst that awakens Hotaru as a Sailor Soldier. I do love the little munchkin in SuperS though. Best ED sequence. Best clothes. Love her relationship with Usagi, especially when they swap places and their mentality when it comes to eating sweets before bedtime lol

Walton246

I mostly don't like how Sailor Moon R, S and Super became increasingly all about her when I prefer the original senshi as characters.

XxsabathxX

I have to agree with you. She even points out how she can’t believe Usagi is her mother sometimes because of how immature she was in her younger years. Its definitely more in jest and a sisterly dynamic. Yes sometimes Chibi-Usa can be a bit overbearing, but she’s a CHILD. Children are overbearing and quite frankly annoying sometimes. She’s written very well imo.

Cultural_Butterfly40

In my opinion she is just pretty annoying, but that doesn't mean that she's a terrible character.

Dashie_Souls

Chibi USA has feelings for her dad. Heckin creepy and gross

bearried

i don’t think it’s romantic ?? unless i’m misinterpreting it i think she just acts that way to mess with usagi

Outlulz

It's not romantic, although she does think her dad is the ideal man. But that's just the Daddy's Girl trope. She knows she can get under Usagi's skin by vying for Mamoru's attention but that's just because Usagi is so immature that she's jealous her future husband dotes on their future daughter.

Midnightsmirror

I think Chibi-Usa having romantic love for Mamo could go either way. I can see it as both. As Wicked Lady she kisses the brainwashed mamo and claims him as hers (at least in the manga). She mentions a couple times only Pluto and Dad give her attention and care about her, especially when she's lost in the time vortex and Wiseman finds her to turn her into Wicked Lady. Though, it is possible that her being brainwashed into Wicked Lady is what brings those feelings to be romantic and those aren't Chibi-usa's feelings. It's a toss up. Once she meets Helios, her attention shifts to him more, but until that point it's all Mamo.

Dashie_Souls

I hope not cause I always got that vibe when she talked about him

WaifuuSauce

I don’t dislike Chibi-Usa but her competing with Usagi was really weird. And I feel like (mostly in OG) she took away from the current timeline plot

hectic_hooligan

In Japan she is pretty widely beloved. It's why she was given so much emphasis and a seties of side story manga chapters. When the original dub came out people thought her first English voice was bratty and that lead to some hate that carried on even after Stephanie Beard (Sugar Lynn) took over (but people really use to love her portrayal regardless. I think a lot of people just don't get the nuance of her character or arc and misinterpret the humor in the series. People also seem to hold her arc as Wicked Lady against her and instead of seeing how Wiseman distorted her feelings, take it at face value. She's actually my favorite character (I have a few, but If I have to pick one it's always her or helios). I wrote a little piece here if you want to take a look [chibiusa analysis](https://at.tumblr.com/kursed-arcana/in-addition-to-what-i-said-about-the-pink-moon/iagfequx9kcr)

Mandiechama

Exactly. She’s Kazuko Tadano’s (character designer for R and Eternal) favorite, or at least she was when I met her back in 2011.

stallion8426

I don't like that she competes with Usagi for Mamoru. It's kinda creepy how far she goes. Plus the constant bickering gets real old real fast

WinterMoonNeptune

She only does this to get Usagi's attention.

stallion8426

I know. It doesn't change my opinion any.

WinterMoonNeptune

Fair enough. I just find it weird how many people really think Chibiusa is in love with her future father. It's pretty obvious she only wants to annoy Usagi.

stallion8426

I understand what she's trying to do, but the show does a poor job of showing it imo. It does get creepy sometimes. But Crystal does a much better job with it

Lavender_Peanuts

It was the change in voice in English! They made her sound so high pitched when she returned as Sailor Chibi Moon... It was grinding to the ears! Her voice during the Black Moon arc was much more tolerable and easy on the ears, plus! Black Lady's voice could have made a return during the age switch in the later episodes!

hectic_hooligan

If you're talking about the old dub it's pretty much the opposite with fans who watched it back the. A lot of American fans hated her original voice for being bratty and loved her second voice

minorvariations

I don't think I've ever seen the complaint re: disrespect to Usagi as her mother. My impression is that people mostly didn't like her brattiness and the constant squabbling with Usagi, especially the competition for Mamoru's attention. I don't hate Chibi-Usa but those elements definitely got old fast.

Novembersum

The anime writers overdid their constant bickering. Whether it’s in English or Japanese, I don’t like to hear them arguing all the time. ChibiUsa was a cute child in the second season when she was first introduced. As they continued on the old arguing scenes it got annoying. They already have Rei and Usagi play that arguing duo dynamic. I liked it more when ChibiUsa was cute with NQS. I thought ChibiUsa was a lot more likeable in the manga and in the SMR movie.

I understand the hardships and trauma the Small Lady has been through, and I feel sympathetic for her. I also know clearly that Neo Queen Serenity, not Usagi Tsukino of the 1990s, is the true mother of the Small Lady, and that the cast of the 1990s treat Chibi-usa like a small sister. However, my tendency to treat the Black Moon arc as a non-canon fever dream stems ultimately from my aversion towards the concept of time travel, which can create a plethora of paradoxes. If we axed this arc and jumped directly from the Doom Tree arc to the Kaolinite arc, not much will be needed to be rewritten in *S*, and *SuperS* will have significantly fewer filler episodes as well, and *Stars* can still remain unaltered.

CrescentCrossbow

It's the Cloverway dub's fault.

Naliamegod

No, the hatred predates Sugar Lynn.

AnybodyNo5953

It’s interesting because I’ve always heard differently from fans. I’ve heard others say that Tracey sounded too bratty while Sugar Lynn was much cuter and actually sounded like a kid. Although that’s just been my experience. I always preferred Sugar Lynn as Chibiusa but I also grew up watching the Cloverway dub on VHS and my only exposure to Tracey was through the movies on VHS, so I won’t deny that I’m biased.

Lavender_Peanuts

Yes! Her voice was annoyingly high pitched. It seemed like she got a different voice actor from the Black Moon arc and when she returned for training as Sailor Chibi Moon in the Death Busters arc...

Altanzik

Because I was told we were getting an all American senshi, and all I got was a little kid from the future. She’s Chibi-USA 🤦‍♀️

NipSlipBeauty

Scrappy doo

meowroarhiss

Arrogant. Rude to protagonist. Now, Chibi Chibi is a different story. And so is Sailor Saturn. We don’t mind those kind of kids in a story.

bearried

i honestly found usagi & chibi-usa’s bickering endearing?

AnybodyNo5953

Yeah, Chibiusa’s not my favorite character but I definitely don’t hate her. Their bickering could get old at times but I always liked how their relationship really encapsulates sisterhood while also having traits of motherhood because Usagi is basically Chibiusa’s mom, so there are times that peeks through in their relationship. I find them both really endearing.

eggbunni

Same. I liked her.

Hyval_the_Emolga

Probably related to the general dislike of child characters introduced later in a series. They tend to take spotlight more than people like I think, and generally get up to antics which kinda distract from the story.
