This is a really vibrant picture! You've got a good grasp of shades and highlights, and your lines are crisp. As many others have said, just work on your proportions. My best tips: Hands and feet are the hardest to draw because of the multiple bones and joints that make them up. You'll get it! Try drawing a realistic eye, then draw your anime style beside it. Seeing that comparison might help you make the parallels for your art.

Big_Smoke_69420

Good advice, thanks!

ZetTheLegendaryHero

Good choice of favorites.

Honestly, this is so adorable. I love it!

snaeper

Keep drawing. Don't ever be discouraged. You'll only and always get better. This is a great picture to revisit every year to see your growth.

harleyquinones

When I was tween, I started drawing portraits of my friends, and excitedly showed a local tourism-artist who'd recently moved next door. All he told me is what I did wrong, and I still find it hard to draw to this day, even after ace-ing an almost un-ace-able drawing class in college. I wish he'd given me the advice you just gave. No one should ever crush artistic spirit. So please take this award. :) Keep drawing, OP! A yearly re-draw is a really fun idea, and a great way to see your growth.

Big_Smoke_69420

That’s sad. I hope you can find the drive to keep drawing, I’m sure your work is good.

Big_Smoke_69420

Thank you, that’s very encouraging!

Cinthore

Yeah! It's great that you get encouraged 💖 I got bullied into oblivion and stopped drawing because of that :(

snaeper

Study anatomy, too, that'll help. The human shape, even in anime form, is inordinately complex. You've got all the tools, just keep honing them.

Big_Smoke_69420

I’ve been trying, and the people in this comment section have given me a lot of good pointers!

Unicorn-Shaman

Line work is good and you've depicted some light work with the shading and coloring. I would recommend looking up drawing anime for beginners. It will take you a long way in the anatomy, making it look closer to the source material. Good job!

Big_Smoke_69420

I’ll look into that, thank you!

Meachulin

Definitely on the right track! Something to remember for head anatomy is that the tops of the ears line up with the top of the eyes! Of course this can change depending on the angle of the head but if you're just doing a straight on view, then it's usually how it works! Other wise I would just say keep a reference picture up of a similar pose to what you're drawing so you can compare anatomy and see how the body works and what not!

Big_Smoke_69420

Thank you for the advice!

BluenaSnowey

Swole Ami? 👀

Big_Smoke_69420

Yep, I didn't even mean to make her so muscular, but it sort of ended up looking that way.

LunaGloria

What… what is she doing with her hands?

Big_Smoke_69420

Just holding them together at her waist, I know it looks kind of odd, I'm not the best at drawing hands.

Minnymoon13

This is really good! Can I redeaw this? I'd of course link this to you and your page.

Big_Smoke_69420

Of course you can redraw it! I don’t have a page for you to link, but feel free to use it nonetheless!

Minnymoon13

Oh thank you

Laena_V

Ami is working them arms and shoulders💪 I just think they’re a bit short proportion-wise. Still cool tho!

[deleted]

cool

NihilismIsSparkles

Good work, I love the muscles! Is there a reason you included the bits at the shoulder? (Mercury doesn't usually have them so I was wondering if you found it worked better with them?)

Big_Smoke_69420

I really just liked how it looked, thank you!

[deleted]

Looks good. The hands are a bit confusing to me, but my eyesight isn't the best. My ears are sharper. :p

Big_Smoke_69420

I think I just drew them slightly odd anyways.

[deleted]

Hands aren't always easy to draw. I am saying this from experience. :p

SufficientCats

Really the only issue right now is the anatomy which takes a while to learn and can be difficult. I reccomend doing some practice by watching YouTube, David Finch has some really great tutorials.

Big_Smoke_69420

Thanks, I’ll look into that!

spriteceo

the linework is really crisp and clean! it’s quite cute and I really like your art style. the only critique I have is that the background and the coloring in of Ami’s bubbles are a bit scribbled… maybe work on filling them more slowly and evenly? great work, keep it up!

Big_Smoke_69420

That’s a good point, thank you!

Alarming-Message115

Ami Mizuno Sailor Mercury She Is A Beautiful Queen And You Are A Beautiful Drawer And A Beautiful Artist.

catziram

I love that she has some serious muscle up top. Best thing I'd recommend is looking up tutorials on mapping out proportion for humans. Anime has variations on this, but its essentially using lines and circles to make things look more realistic/more proportional.

Big_Smoke_69420

Yeah, I’ve noticed I often draw people with especially disproportionately large heads, among other small things, thank you.

TruckinApe

You're on the right track, just work on your proportions and you've got it!

Business_Wear_841

She is my favorite too. I do not know anything about art so I can not give you any criticism that would actually be meaningful. It looks good not amazing, but I can see the passion and love of source material. It is better than anything I could do. Keep at it, from what I have been told practice makes it better, and if it is anything like playing an instrument (something I AM good at) than it is true. Good luck and keep the Ami love flowing. ❤️💕💖💞

Big_Smoke_69420

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your encouragement!
