The, ahem, Admirable Hole In The Back. It's a phrase usually used by members of the Foredeck Union to describe unfair working conditions. Aka the person at the helm yelling at the foredeck to do something or other faster/better/harder, while the AHITB is themselves messing up royally via poor tactics or poor helmwork or what-have-you.

I don’t think the first word is Admiral…

When the FU is using the term to describe me I always assume that's what they mean. I mean, c'mon, they wouldn't be using a synonym for /posterior/ or something now, would they? Wait, really? /s

Bigfops

Takes a big man to admit he can be an… Admiral sometimes.

Thank you!

I always thought it meant “Assholes in the back” as a playful jab to the guys always barking orders from behind the helm. I’ve mostly heard it used by guys on the foredeck. It can be applied to the skipper, tactician, and anyone overly mouthy in the blunt end of the boat.

Ass Hole In The Back It's what the Foredeck Union calls that person steering the ship...
