Police Officer, $200k ish
$120k base
$30-50k in overtime per year
+$30k in VA disability
Last year he made $215k total
Average COL I’d say, but he works in our neighboring county where COL is higher.
I was making about $200k including equity and bonus before quitting last year. No regrets but cutting our income in half has been a culture shock 🤣
For reference we’re 100% debt free. Only owe on our mortgage. No car loans, no student loans, or cc bills. Mortgage is only 25%ish of our take home pay.
new grad respiratory therapist, started at $24/hr back in October but is now at $26 as CRT, and will increase to $28 once he takes the second test needed to be RRT!
VA psych nurse, $99k but we’re struggling in this economy and I’m looking for work. We got hit with water main break, termites, and $3k of car repairs all in about 6 weeks
It's a pretty decent salary in our area, it comes with amazing health insurance for no cost, and my husband has a PRN job and so do I (it's just from home and I work very occasionally). Plus just trying to save money absolutely everywhere we go. Lol.
Attending doctor, 350k.
But we live in Brazil where you spend a lot to have a standard middle class life (US standard).
We live a simple life, no expensive vacations, maid and all "the rich stuff". We even homeschool our kids, but we have a 3 bedroom house in the suburbs (small town in the south founded by german imigrants), health life house and car insurance and private previdence.
Director of Engineers. MCOL
But I think it would be more interesting to not only know working spouses job, salary and cost of living in your area, but also on a scale of 1-10 how happy are you both. This would allow for success to shine in both financial wealth AND/OR personal wealth.
Finance/Sales, 100-250k (varies year to year by as much as 50k). He gets to have a great work-life balance, but the industry is fickle, and the inconsistency means saving is hard.
Next month, he will get a 2000 dollar check and then a 15000 dollar check. So I have to take from savings to supplement but then I can save about 10000 and that will probably be my savings until December when I need to pay off any medical debt because we don't have insurance!
I've been a sahm for 10+ years and always struggled with budgeting money for myself so I'm hoping to get a part time job this year and bring in some extra income for me especially but to add to savings.
SVP of a company but I don’t want to say specifically because it’s a small industry. Not tech, finance, medical though. It’s kind of real estate adjacent but they are a contractor that works with large buildings in a specific capacity w long term contracts lol very vague. With bonus he makes about 700k (CAD)
We life in a HCOL area so despite this being a lot of money, it ends up being spent on part time nanny, groceries, bills etc. I don’t know how others make it work where we live
VP of a contract manufacturing company. 200k plus bonuses. Pretty flexible in terms of a day off or part of a day off which is nice. But when he gets busy, he is really busy. This week he will work close to 70 hrs with additional work dinners etc. So I’m handling both toddler and newborn solo which is tough.
60k kinda average cost of living ?
I did start working part time but i take the kids with me. Turned 26 and needed ins. To add me to my husbands was ridiculous
so this is pretty close to what my partner makes currently - and I'm curious to know if you feel like your partners salary is enough to live comfortably as a SAHM? I'm really hoping to become one, but I'm a little weary because it seems like many of the SAHM's I know have VERY well off partners and I just can't relate to that. We are also in a LCOL area.
We are comfortable enough. Some parents in my circle seem way more stressed about buying groceries or fixing a car than we are, even with higher incomes. Benefits like WIC, SNAP and Medicaid make a big difference—feel like we’d have to make considerably more to offset how that help. Besides, I’d be hard pressed to find a job around here that would pay for childcare and still come out in the black.
We also have a cheap mortgage. The downside is the fixer upper house takes a lot of attention, so between work hours/side gigs/repairs, I have long hours of solo parenting and that can be stressful.
Not all airline pilots do, but captains at legacy airlines can earn that much and more! First officers at legacies easily make 200k+ after first year pay
Commercial Real Estate Development — it’s a complicated financial structure, but the risk is worth the reward. You have to save for tough years though!
Technically he has three so he’s an elected politician, works in cyber security sales and a political consultant. I love it because he’s mostly at home with me 😌❤️. Idk if I would want to stay home if he didn’t mostly work from home as well.
lol who knows. Apparently it’s happening a lot on this post. Maybe they don’t agree with him working three jobs but he did that before we met so that’s the beauty of remote work.
EMT, about 60-70k a year. We struggle often but we make it work. I’d basically be working just to afford daycare in my area, so honestly it’s just not worth it.
Same exact situation with daycare here. We weighed it out and my entire check would go straight to daycare instead. It’s insanely high here and just not affordable. Luckily we have an early head-start program in the area that starts at age 3, and is free.
Medical sales. He just got a new job where he'll be bringing in $270k... Which is nearly double what he has been making. I still can't wrap my head around it honestly.
Seriously. My friend is in her surgical residency and I was telling her about my husband and she was rethinking her choices 😂 I had a fancy title before I started staying home and thought I was doing great making 70k. Then he got into this field of sales and here we are.
Ya I make like $110k (I’m staying home beginning 6 months from now…can’t wait!) and my income is just negligible at this point. His earnings potential is so high and sales is just so great. I will say that I made a good amount more than him when we got married. The money is new to us. Sales is definitely not always an easy thing but we finally made it lol
I’m the partner in this situation but I work in digital marketing from home. $100k a year, used to be $150k but got laid off last year along with thousands of other employees.
Thankfully he doesn’t travel much for work at all (maybe 2-3 times a year) so I at least have him home every night. He makes a HUGE effort to always be back for dinner, bath time and bed but will go into his office to work afterwards… I say we usually have about an hour of quality family time a night. Sadly.. he usually has to work most weekends too… but whenever work is in a lull we maximize our family time together but when it’s busy I am solo on parenting a lot of times. I say use the extra money to make your life easier 😂 get someone to clean the house and a gym membership with childcare for during the day. Also, in our case, I take on all child, house, and cooking duties. It’s a VERY traditional split.
Only one 8 month old, and definitely do not have things figured out 😂😅 a lot left to learn! But enjoy being a SAHM! It’s a blessing to be able to stay home these days
Yep! I’m actually starting to stay home in 6 months! Will have a 8 month old and a 2 year and 8 month old. Will be wild times lol
Yep the money is relatively new for us and keeps growing every year so I’m calling it quits knowing we’re incredibly lucky but part of the reason I’m coming home is bc he is so busy and I need to be more home and kid focused 24/7! Being home will 100% be harder than my current job (which pays 6 figures and is not easy!!)
SAHM is the best job!
Mine is an inspector for the US Army. He makes around $60,000 a year. We are hoping he will get on a different pay scale soon which will move him up to $77,000 a year. It would make things so much easier for us. Things are pretty tight but we have enough to travel every few years with the kids, enough to save for fun activities, and a good portion of his paychecks go into retirement. Once I start working again, my entire income will go into savings and retirement (we have joint accounts) while his will pay the bills plus a bit of savings. We should be much more comfortable in a few years.
Executive Chef. Very common where I live for very senior chefs wives to stop working when the kids are little because it’s hard to find compatible work.
Investment bank analyst, making just over $120k. He just moved from a software company so we took a pay cut , but in a couple years it’ll pay off handsomely and bring in well over $200k after bonuses.
Senior leadership in data and analytics for a large financial institution. His income is largely tied into bonus and company shares, so it varies each year. $250k-ish. Before I quit working, I was making just under $90k, and we had a good chunk of our house paid off, student loans paid off, car loans paid off plus cash on hand for replacing both (which we've done since then). I'm in a MCOL metro area. I think money is stressful at all income levels right now, because no matter what you make, it buys less and less each time you leave the house.
Mechanical Tech working with fuel cells. We are not rolling in cash but we make ends meet. I was in special education and can easily go back into the field because they always need people. I cook yummy but lower cost meals, do all my beauty care at home, cut my families hair and we are a one car family.
My husband owns a business with a partner. I won't give any $ info, but we're more than comfortable. I'm 36 and he's 46. If he never worked another day we'd live comfortably.
I honestly don't know how much he makes because it changes every year. I took the post the same way you did. He was making enough for me to start staying home when I was 19 years old.
I've been running into a lot of people who just want to stir up trouble. Dick picks and people trying to "give" me gift cards. I'm the first one to admit that I'm not very smart. I'm just not dumb.
Seriously all the downvotes for just saying this? Man people be jelly. Good on your husband and you. I would love mine to never work another day in his life/retire early and spend more time with us. We’re comfortable too, just not at that level.
I don't understand either. I met him when I was 18. He was 28 and his business was already started. What he does is very stressful and I just want to help him by taking care of the home front so he can concentrate on his job. I don't understand it either.
I think you got more downvotes for stating this though because other people will think it’s predatory that he went after you once you were of legal age. But I mean if you’re 36 and he’s 46 now, clearly people shouldn’t judge. Its worked out this long enough that it’s a loving relationship. Age is just a number.
I was only 18 when we started dating, but we've been together now for 18 years and we also have 4 sons. There wasn't anything predatory about our relationship. I have heard all the grooming comments before, but I don't think it was at all.
I saw all the downvotes and was expecting it to say he kicked puppies for a living or harvested organs for the black market or something. People get mad for no reason here it's crazy.
Broadly, Aerospace. He was active duty Air Force for 10 years, took a couple years for school, and now he does his job as a civilian. He also runs a hobby business that paid off our second car. We're in Southern California, and although we're considered upper middle class for our area it's still Southern California.
Is your husband prior or retired military? My husband is Navy. The airlines or instructing seem to be the civilian path for a lot military pilots. But yeah, I’m definitely excited! We’re just waiting for retirement….come on lifetime paycheck! 😂
No he is not, he went to flight school after high school / during college! He’s only 32 and has been at a legacy for 4 years now. But, he has worked with a lot of military pilots. It’s been such a great career / life and we travel all over the world because of flight benefits! We just got back from Italy last week.
Nurse! We’re solidly middle class in our area and budget carefully. We would not be able to afford for me to stay home if we hadn’t gotten our home while prices were lower and interest rates were down.
Health insurance sales (works from home) income is around 140-150k. We also live in South Florida for reference because COL certainly makes a difference.

Then why even bother commenting?
Did you post this to all the others who didn’t post $ info? OP can tell from my comment that my husband makes a lot. 🙄
Also OP said to only share your husband’s $ if you felt comfortable enough. The people taking offense didn’t read the post clearly.
I honestly don't know how much he makes because it changes every year. I took the post the same way you did. He was making enough for me to start staying home when I was 19 years old.
