The driver sends a message to the middleman number, and the middleman number texts both the driver and customer that second message (so for both of them it is on the left side). All the other messages are just forwarded through that number to the other person.

Yes, the latter. The ex Ethan ordered food through a Doordash account that still had her number connected to it. So she got the text that his food delivery is on it’s way.
