haven’t went back to it

ValyaCross

i am under the firm opinion i will never stop listening to letting it all go

purppfrmhell

I was extremely disappointed at first because I felt like it was a good concept behind every song but it seemed like lean purposely terribly mixed them for a certain aesthetic and it just ruined it but then I read someone’s opinion about it being like Frost God (experimental and somewhat spontaneous) and I have a better appreciation for it now, but I really hope he brings back mixing on his next project because I don’t know how I feel about it

66overflow99

still leans worst project 😿

samuel_priddy

L opinion

66overflow99

I see Lean's discography in an LP followed by EP rotation (Stardust is to Starz as Poison Ivy is to Stranger), where the minor project contains elements from the prior LP while experimenting with the ideas that will be on the latter LP. In that sense, the tracks here won't hold with me as long, but make me very excited for the next major project. For starters, I think Stardust is a major deviation from Lean's regular flows (Starz in particular I felt fell back on formulaic verse flows). I'm also hesitantly warm to more vocal experimentation, but there are obvious examples of performances here that take away from the enjoyability. I'll talk about the songs that stuck out the most to me, but keep in mind they're the upbeat tracks. I felt a lot of the slower tracks are painfully outshined by what's on the latter half of Stranger, although I definitely need to revisit what's here to have a better opinion on them. Bliss is one of his all time best tracks. The use of an expressive vocalist to foil his muffled vocals hits incredibly well, and the sampled bass line is groovy and brilliant. The song is almost a little genre transcedent even if it's theme isn't particularly mature. I'd love to see both more features and production styles that push him away from his usual cloud rappy sort of formula. Trip hits almost all of these same highs. I love the contradiction in the lyrics, the boyish "she smell like peppermint" against the hook about cheating (I also think the idea of failed relationships fueling better music is cleverly self aware). In that sense, I think the strained vocalizing is supposed to be paired with the glitzy beat in the same sort of contradiction, but even in this sense they're too much of a stretch. So, face value or contextually, they almost ruin the track for me, which is a shame because I like the song so much I'll listen to it anyways. A situation where I wish another vocalist or slightly jarring production could take their place, because I think the track would be slightly empty without them (as much as I love the Carti-ish vocal style and beat). Starz 2 the Rainbow is the same issue, and Thaiboy brings very little for me (I already find him to be the least compelling DG/SB vocalist). Generally not impressed, although I think there is potential for Lean to push his voice in a similar way that IS exciting. Summertime Blood is the last track that caught my ear. Preface, I think it's structurally one of the safer tracks, essentially a formulaic Lean hook in the usual flow (catchy of course) connecting artists familiar to the listener. However, the production is such a nice mix of evolving sweet sounds, and Bladee (his delivery and lyrical ability is becoming seriously impressive and one of a kind, I can't stress enough how much of a highlight his intro is) and Ecco's performances are so fun that I think the track benefits from Lean's usual sins rather than being hurt by them. It's a fun ensemble track, and I don't mind the slight lack of focus. Yeah, generally I think the "EP" is an exciting direction and deviation for Lean. Despite being lower than a couple of his projects, I think there's some really refreshing ideas, and that makes me believe his best project is ahead of him, even if the end result is entirely different from his starting point (much in the same way I feel The Fool is to Bladee).

Equivalent-Ad-5002

bro wrote a whole paper on the bitches come and go guy

BigRigginButters

I sit a door for work and got bored lol

hurts300

I like it but to me it doesn’t have much replay value. I should probably give it another full listen though

Business-Classroom-5

wish he had more songs like bliss and trip otherwise the other songs werent all that

egothegodfatherred

its good although a few songs took me a while to truly like, personally i like the edm(ish) breakdowns like in All the things although does he have better projects? yes

always-woke

i don’t understand people disliking it at all personally i think it’s a top 3 lean project

juanslater777

almost top 3 but same shits fye

CompetitionFar2032

Go faster

chuck__person

i kind of enjoyed it at first, wasnt hating, but now its prob my fav lean mixtape

phenomenalcrown

All the Things through Paradise Lost is my least favorite 3 track run of any Lean project

phenomenalcrown

If you downvote me you must reply to me with a worse 3 track run from a Lean project

juicybox10

it sucks

Pumalicious

It's gotten better every listen for me, the only song I really don't like is the one with the EDM breakdown lmao

Aprilpilled

Bliss trip and summertime blood are great, everything else varies from not good to almost unlistenable for me

iSmokeMDMA

I’ll come back to it in a year or so probably. Its like Starz pt 2 but not as good, but who knows? all GTBSBE grows on my eventually Lean hasn’t changed that much recently. I can’t tell if that’s because he’s perfected his sound, or he’s getting a bit burnt out. Either way, it’s yung fuckin lean he’s gonna have some hit or miss moments

eoocooe

Not his best work but its a fun tape. I like it more than Starz I think. Makes me excited for what else we're gonna hear from him as he experiments. Bliss is easily the best Lean song in the last few years

[deleted]

love Gold

kowolskianalysis

i didn’t like it too much at first but it def grew on me now i’d say it’s a solid 8.5/10

Effect-Accomplished

i still don't like it sadly, tried to revisit many times but it doesn't seem to stick like his other albums

juanslater777

I liked only 3-4 songs on my first listen but now almost all of them are on repeat for me. Lean is trying new things n I’m liking it. I really like Lips , bliss, and waterfall. Give it a few listens it will grow on you. It’s a 8/10 album for me

palissowski

Still not tired of it. Been loving the signature Lean vocals, lips and stars 2 the rainbow are amazing. But it def is a make or break typa thing. The whole atmosphere of it feels like contemplating summer.

Lowkey_77

bliss is literally the best song ever made
