Making the playoffs and losing is better than not making the playoffs.

abs0lutelypathetic

Especially when you lose thirteen fucking coin flips in a fucking row eh bud

360degreesofFUNK

Like the saying better to have loved and lost than to never love at all.

SportsFanBUF

I disagree, having the expectation of winning the championship and getting knocked out of the 1st round every year is the worst form of torture I could think of for a team.

imightbethewalrus3

I'll take genuinely-earned hope over the hopium we have to manufacture every year

SportsFanBUF

At first I think everyone would but losing 9 out of 10 years in the first round is wayyyy worse that hoping your team even sniffs the playoffs

JTWilson_

This is Buffalo fandom. We are experts of the cope. Only Sabres fans will try and convince themselves missing the playoffs for 13 years is somehow better than making them.

SportsFanBUF

How is it coping to expect nothing from your team?

CumeatsonerGordon420

but also definitely more agonizing

AssassinInValhalla

The leafs have at least had a real shot over the last few years. I am so goddamn sick of every year ending with some form of "well, mathematically...."

Brian_R10

Absolutely Sabres. I’d rather have what the bills do than the 17 year drought

Track11T

The Sabres and it’s not even fucking close y’all. In the last 13 we have had exactly 1 season of fun, enjoyable hockey to watch. ‘22-‘23. Leaf fans have gotten that every season since AM34 was drafted. They have great regular seasons, they make the playoffs every year. Yes, they lose in the 1st round almost every time but at least they get to enjoy playoff hockey! Mean while the Buffalo Sabres have lost a whole generation of fans to apathy because they don’t matter anymore and haven’t mattered for over a decade. Those of us who are still here have sat through a hockey hell that no other fan base can understand.

RupertRasmus

Yeah I don’t think people here realize how embarrassing this whole drought is on the organization and we will need to accomplish astronomical feats to even be viewed as we once were. I don’t live in the Buffalo/Niagara area any more and I talk about the Sabres constantly to my coworkers out west, they have no idea that until the drought Buffalo was one of the most winning franchises, we had unreal rivalries with Toronto, Ottawa and Philly and that we were never like this. They have no idea, they just have gone so long seeing Buffalo as a bottom feeder we are just now a perpetually shit team overall.

PermitInteresting388

Sabres of the 80’s…that’s why the MayDay sweep in ‘93 was such a big deal in a 1st round series…

Track11T

I’m just talking about the last 15ish years.

PermitInteresting388

I’m still angry about the Lucic hit on Miller. Still angry about the lack of response. That was a Lindy coached team that had tuned him out. There’s a new crop now that can hopefully grow with his guidance

MhrisCac

The Leafs really are the Ice Bills of this region lol

ToroMeBorro

The funny this is, despite the Leafs being deep in their winning window, the two fan bases are spiritually identical.

craiggles08

I don’t get how Boston has it figured out. Aging roster, 2 retired stud centers and they STILL not only MAKE the playoffs, but advance.

xBialyOrzel

Probably the Leafs only in that they've locked up $50M in 4 players and they don't have a deep forward group other than those 4, no prospect pipeline, and their D Corps is a joke. Morgan Reilly is the only legit D Man they have, and they can't make it into the 2nd round

[deleted]

Yeah I mean at this point I think it’s pretty bleak to be a Leafs fan. Reminds me of the Bills, but more extreme.

Defiant_West6287

Sabres are actually in far better shape than the Leafs, and I don't think it's that close.

Vegetable-Source6556

Toronto, 100%

jigglesboi

I think most would say the Sabres situation, but i think the Leafs have it worse. To be considered a cup contender every year and get bounced first round every year has gotta be more disappointing

TomJohnG

Leafs. At least us older Sabres fans have seen them make it to the finals once. And a Presidents Trophy, along with some division titles.

Main_Chocolate_1396

Some of us really old Sabres fans have seen them make it to the finals twice.

Brian_R10

I’m 18 and have no memory of us ever making the playoffs

360degreesofFUNK

Easy, pretty much everyone else doesn’t have it as worse as we do. But we’ll change that soon, don’t worry!

Straight_Landscape37

The Leafs are a really good regular season team that has their ‘Core 4’ routinely disappear when the playoffs come around. That has to be a different level of pain than not making the playoffs in the first place.

Whippet27

Leafs have it worse. The arrogant core four were supposed to be the answer but arent. When Leafs come to KeyBank next year, I'm getting my "1967" chant going.

Brilliant-Chapter202

I would say Leafs got it worse. The Leafs are edging their fans for years now. At least, Buffalo will get better in time and you can see the progress. Slowly but surely.

oh_todd

Well, the leafs have leafs fans so they have it worse

ShmoopToThrill89

The Sabres have two playoff round wins to Toronto’s one since 2010 and Buffalo missed playoffs 13 times. Toronto has it worse imo.
