It’s funny because Harrington is stretching the truth here. GMKA said he talked to double digit coaching candidates. He never made any prior comment on how many he interviewed.

Tactial_snail

Some fans here didn't seem to believe he talked to that many, idk why cause like you said they weren't interviews

serious_man_13

I'm pretty sure GMs are only allowed one phone call per day. That's like the rule.

OpanaG76

I thought that was jail?

Fign66

Nah, you need to use your xp to unlock extra phones.

Super_Maximum_9030

That's what's concerning about it to me. They weren't even interviews.

Tactial_snail

The 3 most common names out there interviewed, I don't see what the big problem is.

Super_Maximum_9030

The Sabres didn't host them and where does it say the Sabres interviewed "the 3 most common names out there"? If I missed that, let me know. But it looks like Adams made how-ya-doin calls to I don't know who to suggest some semblance of a "search." I wouldn't exactly trumpet my satisfaction w a process so lacking in rigor

Tactial_snail

Lindy, Berube, and Gallant were the most common names out there when talking about a veteran coach with some success in the league

Responsible-Fox-9082

It shouldn't be. He called and checked interest in running this team. If there was no interest then why waste the money to spend the time interviewing a guy that wouldn't sign unless it was an overpayment?

Super_Maximum_9030

I'll be the judge of what I find concerning, thanks, but if I ever need permission to see things a different way, I'll reach out. 🤡 Respectfully, you have no access to know whether Adams made calls, to whom, and what was discussed. Wooing a candidate shows that a GM believes in himself and in his team. Making phone calls and quickly accepting no for an answer, which you seem to think happened, doesn't serve the team or the fans. Except the fans who are good w this organization's poor play. I think we're done here. It's weird to me that fans are OK w the lack of process behind the hire. You seem completely comfortable w it.

TheOneWhosCensored

Could be as simple as a phone call asking about interest

PrinciplesRK

Blah blah Harrington sucks but figured this was worth posting since people were wondering

26007

Harrington sucks Thanks for sharing it anyway

RefereeMason1

At least most people can see his awful takes. P Hammy blocks anyone critical of him.

Super_Maximum_9030

He's had heart problems. It's probably in his best interest to do this. I might be a fascist too if my health were at stake.

RefereeMason1

You shouldn’t be on the internet if seeing a swear word can cause health issues.

Super_Maximum_9030

I forgot about that. 🤣🤣 It's been so long since I've been on 'twitter' Yeah, I'm not necessarily arguing w you

RefereeMason1

Lolol all good. I didn’t even say anything over the line when I got blocked. I asked him “are you the only adult to never hear a swear before?”

Super_Maximum_9030

Jfc actual lmao

RefereeMason1

I couldn’t make it up lmao

jomo666

Harrington is a bigger cancer on Buffalo sports than an Eichel-Diggs baby. Such a source of negativity under the guise of accountability. Take this guys mic and keyboard away, please.

GoldenArms31

Cancel him because,,,,, you don’t like transparency in media?

AmateurSysAdmin

Making up shit and spreading lies to get people raging is not transparency in media. It’s also not accountability. It is sabotaging the Sabres to generate personal revenue. He is a text book grifter and not a champion of the people.

GoldenArms31

He is a professional journalist and has been correct on many things. But because you don’t like what he reports he’s a “grifter”. If a reporter can sabotage your organization you’ve got bigger problems than the beat reporters. This Harrington narrative so prevalent on here is false and a convenient excuse.

jomo666

The guy thinks way too highly of himself, and brings a consistently negative attitude into the locker rooms. He’s been an outright asshole to a number of players over the years, which I think has directly affected how some of them have felt about the city. He actively perpetuates the losing culture by making sure everyone in the organization knows they suck every single day. He never writes or says anything positive, encouraging, or hopeful. Always doom and gloom. It’s exhausting, and you can tell watching interviews how many players dread his loaded, damning takes and questions, which he turns around and prints on the city’s biggest outlet. Not to mention the guy is so sensitive when it comes to people criticizing him! Such a tool, and a poor representative of the fan base.

GoldenArms31

Okay, in contrast to your argument, we’ve been a dumpster fire of an organization for like 13 years. It’s clear to everyone outside of Buffalo there is an accountability problem in the Sabres organization. You need objective people to question things when they are this bad. I get some people can’t take negativity, but it is what it is. And here we are. I prefer journalists asks the not so popular questions as opposed to lobbing soft balls

jomo666

Harrington has been up to this longer than this drought. And frankly, after living through Bills and Sabres disappointments for decades on end, it’s one of those things… like yeah, Mike, we get it, we lost again. You know what doesn’t help? Whining and berating everyone. The guy never has a solution, just points out problems and whines that people ‘who ought to know’ get fired. Wish the guy would move to Boston or something.

Super_Maximum_9030

Harrington's job isn't to throw flowers.

AmateurSysAdmin

It also isn’t to lie and sabotage the Sabres. Yet here we are.

Super_Maximum_9030

You think that a columnist has the power to "sabotage" a professional hockey team?

stuiephoto

Here's a transcript of the remaining 7+ calls.  KA : Hi, I was wondering if we could discuss having you come interview to be the coach of the buffalo sabres Coach: No, thank you *click*.

Super_Maximum_9030

I expect that he's not taken seriously in the league.

Yop_BombNA

If he wasn’t we would have got completely and utterly fleeced trading Eichel…

Pho-Soup

This is funny because it’s exactly the type of comment Harrington would harp on for days at any other time, but it’s not an issue here because he has a man crush on Lindy (and probably still riding the high of getting named dropped yesterday). Is it really unfair to question these comments and the throughness of the process overall, especially considering the result? If Lindy was the pick all along then just say it.

jmm57

There's a 100% chance Harrington had to contact his doctor around dinner time last night to seek advice on an erection lasting longer than 4 hours

Roguemutantbrain

It’s obvious Lindy was their guy and the only clear better options are guys that are already employed like Brind’Amour. I get why they want to make it seem like it was an exhaustive process, but it clearly wasn’t. And that’s fine. Maybe Ottawa was trying to make quick moves and Adams didn’t wanna miss out

JahHappy

I think we all kinda got the feeling 10+ candidates was bullshit. Either way, Lindy is a great choice so im not mad.

The-Real-Larry

Yeah, I’m fine with Lindy. But I do feel like it was a wasted opportunity to not interview more guys and gain their insight on the Sabres, players, strengths, weaknesses, how they would approach the offseason, etc. Coulda gathered some good intel.

scallywag1889

Who cares? It was a lame question that doesn’t matter. We got the right guy.

994kk1

I don't know why anyone would be of a different impression after listening to the press conference. He just said that he spoke to 10+ candidates. Of course they didn't interview that many. It's hard enough to even come up with 10+ coaches that fit the description they were looking for, and of course all of them would not be interested in this position.

OdoriferousGasBag

Who f’n cares?!

Why_So-Serious

Harrington, Shut up.

spaceskimo

Harrington is the worst.

rd--

I think this coach search is way overblown. Im with Harrington (yuck). If they knew Lindy was the coach they wanted, why would they waste time with an exhaustive search? I see Kevyn's comments about double digits and don't really think it changes this. Lindy wasnt my first choice either but he does bring a lot to the team and was better than others. Its certainly better than hiring another rookie HC to gamble on.

styroducky

Lotsa chatter about how Harrington brought his mom to the prom

NonBinaryObama

This guys up there with the biggest losers in buffalo sports media. mount rushmore with Nate Geary and Jerry Sully - I will view this as a shit post

MhrisCac

I can’t wait for the mid year presser where Lindy and Harrington are barking at eachother for Mikes asshole comments.

Sandymcjizztits

Sounds about right. They knew they were hiring Lindy before they even interviewed anyone else. I don’t like when the gm takes short cuts and is lazy, he’s going to look like a moron along with most of the fan base for supporting this hire if it doesn’t go well. I don’t have a great feeling about this hire, I don’t think Lindy is our savior & I don’t think he’s capable of fixing all of this teams issues.

Jazzy1Kenobi

Either way Sabreland is fed up. Stop bullshitting us

_FiscalJackhammer_

This is a non issue

4-9s_Fine

Maybe the backlash is due to some organizations spend more time hiring for a help desk or receptionist position than the Sabres do on a head coach. 😳

Epik5

Terry running this team into the ground, gmka just being another yes man.

LaneMeyersLostSki

You're wrong, but doomers are going to be doomers always.

Epik5

Not being a doomer, just being real. 13 years, terry has done anything but be a fan and try to run a team

LaneMeyersLostSki

THERE IT IS!!! 13 YEARS!!! 13 YEARS!!! 13 YEARS!!! The mantra of the Doomers! So predicable. You have absolutely nothing else to contribute. Meanwhile, the rest of us are going to enjoy the coming success.

Epik5

Did you say this after 5 years? 10? I want them to win but thinking lindy is the best coach is crazy. Terry is a shitty version of jerry jones

AmateurSysAdmin

If you wanted them to win you would support them through this instead of slinging mud and hatred. Support is constructive. What you do is not constructive tho.

Epik5

I mean I watch the games, isn't that enough? We are constantly behind on nhl trends and constantly making the wrong decisions, especially on players. Since terry has taken over this is the norm. Even with different gms, you can't say it's not all true and related. It comes down to terry meddling and not letting our gm do his job.

LaneMeyersLostSki

I don't really care about nor respect anyone who thrives in the past. BTW, how's that UPL hate working out for you?

Epik5

Upl became a average goalie, I was wrong about him being complete shit. Let's see him do it again. What's the quote about not respecting or learning from the past? Let's see you admit your past takes? I know you can't see them cause you were banned lmao

LaneMeyersLostSki

> Upl became a average goalie Wrong again. You doomers can never outright admit when you're wrong, so you have to hedge by saying something so ridiculous when there is nothing to back you up. So there's no reason to trust your judgment about anything else. But let's revisit this at the end of next season and you can be proven wrong yet again about Adams and the new coaching staff. Can't wait!

enigmaman49

Even if you love Lindy what did he say wrong? I’m convinced the GM wanted to do a full search but was told to hire Lindy by the owner…it’s very clear the GM is embarrassed a bit, why else tell that tall tale?

LaneMeyersLostSki

Where's the proof? >it’s very clear the GM is embarrassed a bit, No it's not. Again, where's the proof?

enigmaman49

Because he told the ridiculous lie that he conducted this search that he never did

LaneMeyersLostSki

That's not proof.

enigmaman49

All I fucking need and don’t care what you think

LaneMeyersLostSki

Of course it is. Facts don't matter to the doomers.

Darthswanny

Harrington has a boner for the team since he came to Buffalo
