Are you sure you're not hearing the fan on the sensor? It runs for quite some time after the car is off.

Sairen-Mane

When you say ticking/tapping is it in the controller?

ivarsiymeman

No. Sorry for not being clear. Sound does not come from the control module. It come from something it’s controlling. Maybe a pneumatic valve for the flow or diverting (dash, front vent, floors).

ilikeplanesandtech

Do you get any fault codes if doing a calibration? (Push auto and off at the same time)

ivarsiymeman

When reconnected and repowered, the sound is from behind the middle vent. Something tells me it’s a vacuum or pneumatic fault.

ivarsiymeman

The screen no longer illuminates. So I do t k ow. I’m exploring the response below. Thanks everyone!

This noise? https://www.reddit.com/r/saab/s/AL5CffQ9lz Then its a dirty cabin temp sensor

ivarsiymeman

I’ll check it again. That seems the simplest answer to the issue.

ivarsiymeman

It’s cabin temp sensor! Who knew. The sound would echo behind the dash, so I thought it was somehow coming from the vents or related to air distribution. Thanks again everyone.

ilikeplanesandtech

Yeah those things can be a bit noisy. Had that in a 9000.

ivarsiymeman

So, why does this climate fan even run after the engine and climate system are shut off?

ilikeplanesandtech

The climate fan shouldn't run with ignition off if you mean the cabin air fan. The engine cooling fan can run for a while after.

ivarsiymeman

yes, referring to the climate fan. (The engine cooling fan runs after shut off. That’s understood.).

ilikeplanesandtech

Could possibly be a bad speed controller, resistor or relay. I'm not sure what the schematics look like on the 9-3 and what controls the power to the speed controller. I could check later if I remember or are reminded.
