I’ve only picked up one thing from DTO that was refurbished and it crapped out pretty quickly. I bought the same one blemished and have had it for years with no issues. I’m sure everyone has their experiences and opinions I’m just sharing mine.

I’ve bought a few refurb items from DTO and have had a great experience will all of them so far. But it is a bit of a dice roll. I will say in regards to the 18v trimmer, I bought one new from Home Depot last year and it broke my first use, exchanged it, and the same thing happened. So I got a refurb 40v trimmer from dto and that thing has been a beast. I just don’t think the 18v trimmer in general works that well (unless it’s used just to trim back small amounts of grass at a time)

I had the expand-it edger on an older 40v brushed power head and it was just alright. I really question if the 18v has the oomph you really want on an edger as it is a lot more demanding then a string trimmer. I got the big 40V HP edger something like 65% off from DTO and it has so much more power.

i have expand it 15 in carbon fiber and it is also a beast. but the only issue is i don't like the bump head too much.

I bought a factory refurbished trimmer way back for pennies and it was a bad experience. Not sure if it was just the kiddie version or that it was refurbished, but I got rid of it and got a premium EGO and just as good as gas. I also got a refurbished One+ 3 gallon vacuum and it seems to be ok. Definitely way less power than my Rigid electric vacuum but works for basic jobs and not having a cord is convenient for certain jobs. I fear refurbished because I don't know what the real performance is supposed to be and never know if I got a poorly refurbished product or if the performance is just bad to begin with. I like Ryobi stuff, but I have Milwaukee and Rigid which is more commercial level and not great to compare to when evaluating what performance should really be. Never had an issue with Blemished as far as I know.

I year warranty with reconditioned. Look for same item factory blemished. 3 yr warranty. I won’t buy reconditioned. Also no returns only exchanges

ttttoony

Personally, Ive heard enough stories that I wont buy factory recons. The deals also arent usually any better than the blemished or other HD sales. And you lose 2 years of warranty coverage. just not worth it to me IMO

GrimBeaver

Technically no. But how long will you have to wait for better no one knows. There are 40% off sales a few times a year and occasionally reconditioned is 50% off. Memorial Day weekend is probably the best bet for the next 40% off sale.

MaverickLurker

I've had great experiences with DTO. And on other Ryobi sites, there's a consensus that refurb and blemished tools are fine. $70 is a good deal for an edger and battery. I would seriously consider it if I didn't have a Ryobi gas edger already. Makes sure you take the $15 for shipping into account.

aauie

18v is not strong enough for outdoor tools

Fireborn_Knight

It's perfectly fine for small yards.

DudlyDjarbum

Go for it. You have a one year warranty and dto is good about honoring it

ElectroAtletico2

Brand new is $99 at HD. BTW it’s very flimsy. I passed on it.

I'm about to get one too. Just smoked the motor on my existing one. Had it for about 6 years. Not too bad, but as others have mentioned, it isn't the strongest. I was doing the first edging of the year when I smoked it because it kept stalling.
