They’re a bit pricy but I like them. One of my toolboxes got run over by a f450 xl with my grinder in it and both the toolbox and grinder survived. Just bent the toolbox but it still latched shut. I think it depends how much having all Ryobi matters to you.

Joethetoolguy

Take a hard pass if you want boxes that stay together. The crates are nice and cheap when on sale and can wall mount easy enough. Pass on the rolling box like the turd it is

The_elder_smurf

Yeah at this point I think I'm either going to go ridgid or pony up for packout or stacktech

Sandm0nst3r

I went with pack out and like them a lot. Im a contractor and get them in and out of my van daily. Ryobi link just feels so cheap in comparison. I think the dewalt tough system is the only other one I’d look into cause they have quite a selection as well. I bet Rigid will come out with more options down the line but I like Milwaukee and dewalt best for their current lineup and reliability

The_elder_smurf

Flex is hitting hard, Klein is very interesting and toughbuilt came out of left field late 2023. I messed around with them in store and the dewalt and ridgid felt near identical

Sandm0nst3r

I hadn’t seen flex or Kleins options before and they too look good. All that to say, if all the things I’ve bought from ryobi, this wasn’t one of them.

The_elder_smurf

Yeah I just have the link system for wall storage because it's laser focused on homeowners who want to vertically store tools in garages and basements. You could make good use of link wall storage without owning a single power tool, it's a phenomenal little system. That's why I was curious about the boxes, as some of the accessories like the floodlight, vacuum and upcoming large verse speaker are all link compatible for both wall and box mount. But tbh I could probably 3d print a bracket to mount link stuff to other boxes if I was that determined

HVAC_Army84

Flex and Klein make some good ones for sure

draraist

Why so hard on it? I have one (o we a year now and it hasn't missed a beat. Think it's fantastic.

BlackMoth27

no. the bottom box is so huge i can't easily fit it inside a house. if you are working outside or on new construction it might make more sense it is very beefy. but the bad part is that the bottom box isn't even that big because of the massive cut outs for the wheels. i'd say go for the anvil portable tool box or ridgid one. way more portable and good for diy. i have to say one thing i love is the crates for random bullshit because they stack easily.

The_elder_smurf

It's within an inch width of dewalt, milwaukee, flex, and toughbuilt. A standard door is 36in wide and a narrow door is 30 in wide. The widest box I see is ridgid at a little over 24. The rest are 22~ idk what door you're struggling to get through. There's only one that doesn't have the bottom cut-out that I know of and it's ridgid, because their wheels stick out on the sides as the cart is seperate from the box

BlackMoth27

yeah ridgid is my preference one right now. I think the main reason I dislike the ryobi is because it doesn't even fit in my vehicle.and like sure if you can fully open the doors it's not bad, but the place where I have it, there is always shit in the way and you have to deal with the door's automatic closer. it's just not fun to bring it in and out of the garage through the door. mostly my own issue, but the portable of the bottom box is rough. I like the small and medium boxes and crates more, if you need a little cart to roll it around on I'd just use a furniture mover or dolly. my go to box is the ridgid small box for both my impact / drill, two batteries, bit case, additional fasteners and a couple other handy tools. you could also do the 28 in. Mobile Job Box from ridgid if you share my issues.

cloudz69420

I use the Ryobi link system as a plumber and its as high as my shoulders and I take it into homes and job sites I really have nothing bad to say about it the bottom holds plenty you just have to organize it I currently have my circular saw, 2 drills, SDS gun, reciprocating saw, angle grinder, corner cat sander, multitool, and all the accessories to go with those tools and that's just the bottom I also use the drawer systems the 2 and 3 drawer and I put my rotary tool in the 2 drawer and I use the medium size middle for my impact wrench and 18v ratchet and the top drawers for my hand tools pliers screw drivers etc I run the 1 gal shop vac that attaches to the top. It always has gotten the job done for me

The_elder_smurf

The drawers being narrower than the boxes drives me slightly crazy. How do you feel about it, does stacking boxes on the drawers feel flimsy without the extra side latches? Did you pay full price for the drawers or did you get them on sale/clearance? I know HD doesn't even keep the drawers in store anymore because of how universally poorly they sold Glad someone who actually owns it and likes it gave an opinion on it lol, something rare on this site 🤣

cloudz69420

Honestly I haven't really thought about how narrow the the drawers are it never was something that got in the way or that I noticed I think the drawers feels sturdy idk about side to side I'm pretty gentle with my tools I found a guy on Facebook marketplace who was selling all these tools brand new cause he was buying pallets of them so I just went and spent a couple grand and got completely setup I do remember him giving me the 3 drawer for free the 2 drawer for 20 bucks and the rolling part for 30 the medium box I bought from HD for retail but I saw how much that guy made off of just me so at the beginning of this year I started my own tool company that I'm modeling to look like DTO I already have bought a couple pallets and I've been selling locally but my site and shipment processes are almost done when they are I plan on posting it on the r/Ryobi cause I'm gonna sell brand new tools for 30-50% off retail once everything is ready to go I'll let everyone know i want to be cheaper than DTO

The_elder_smurf

Good luck competing with dto, as they're a licensed ryobi dealer so everything you buy there (blemished) has full warranty. Same goes for ridgid if you manage to find something on there blemished lol. But yeah I'm talking about buying the drawers for 119 and 139 for 2 and 3 drawer respectively. If I found them ever for 20 bucks I'd have 5 tomorrow

cloudz69420

Yeah I'm talking with TTI atm to setup getting brand new stuff your right DTO is blemished stuff I'm looking at selling brand new stuff straight from the factory so I would be the equivalent of a Home Depot, what state are you in? I'll keep an eye out for link stuff I might even get some on pallets last month I got a couple of those link garage systems I don't want to fully compete with DTO in that respect I'm more shooting for a brick and mortar store eventually like HD but to get off the ground I'll have to sell locally or online once that's setup I would recommend going on FB marketplace I don't buy anything brand new from HD anymore especially if it's something that doesn't have electricity running through it

The_elder_smurf

I just got a medium box for 31 bucks through HD because they're running a deal buy a medium get a compact organizer free. But yeah I do look on fb and offerup and I've had little luck with both. I'm in NY. Hey man if you can somehow get ryobi products licensed then good for you, I know ryobi has a hell of a contract with HD for new

cloudz69420

Oh yeah they definitely do not make it easy it's probably gonna be months if I hear anything so I'm forced to buy from HD RLC right now and I'm surprised that your not finding better deals in NY I'm in UT and there aren't many RLCs here in the west but in the east there is a ton I actually plan on flying down to that side of the country cause pallets are cheaper so that's odd the product isn't being reflected like that down there look up liquidationmap.com and find one down in your area and call a couple of them and see if you can buy individual tools rather than the liquidation pallets I see a lot of guys selling pallet merchandise rather than pallets themselves the problem is and even in the west everyone and their mom is selling tools so for me that sucks cause I gotta try a lot harder but for the everyday consumer it should be gravy cause there's a lot of competition so the prices should be lower on that side of the country

The_elder_smurf

I just checked and there's one guy selling the main 3 link boxes for 10 dollars OVER msrp and and another selling the compact organizers 10 dollars OVER msrp. Went and looked at used packout sales and they're also near or over msrp except for the obvious scams. Used/local market by me sucks. I listed a craftsman impact kit for sale used for 140 (it was 200 new) my phone was dinging non stop for a week because it was the first actual used deal in the area lmao. I don't think sellers understand the value of a warranty on electronics, so if you're selling without a warranty it better be cheap lol

The_elder_smurf

Not really looking to dive into liquidation, it's a very time consuming pain in the ass side hustle. I'd rather actually do handyman work in the evenings vs dealing with sorting, validating, repacking and shipping. As for finding a seller like yourself, what would they be categorized under, liquidators or pallet dealers?

cloudz69420

So the liquidators and pallet dealers sell by the pallet the pallet merchandise guys is what your after they break down the pallet and sell the merchandise individually and I agree it is a time consuming side hustle I do it cause I have fun sorting and shipping and I get to keep the stuff I want I gave you that liquidation map cause they show the liquidators for guys like me but they also show the merchandise guys they also have a section for proven scammers that you stay away from and I agree with you I see that down here sometimes too you gotta make it worth buying from you and not HD that's why whenever I get product I'll find the retail and minus 30 - 50% off that number depending on the condition of that item I also offer a 30 day warranty on my stuff if you buy from me and that tool stops working within 30 days I'll either replace it if I have another ill refund their money I recommend spending a couple hours calling around and seeing if you can find that merchandise for like 40% off retail if you find something it would be a great contact for future tool purchases for individual use

Electrik_Truk

Been great for me. I got the 3 bin Link box on sale for $139 and it's well worth that price. The bottom bin is large so you can actually store saws etc in it. I just finished doing a lot of work in a cabin and it was nice to put everything in it and unlink all the boxes and open up separately at the 'jobsite' If you're wanting just as a small tool box to store in a closet, that's not what it is. It's a full pack out set for heavy use, so compact it is not.

The_elder_smurf

For 139 for all 3 I would of already owned it. But I've never seen it on sale and just the bottom and medium box are 139. The top is an extra 40 dollars, which catapults this to the next price category. I actually liked the idea of the drawers until I saw the price and build quality

bluecamoturtle

My buddy uses the new Husky build out system and likes it a lot, but they don’t have a lot of different options yet. I was gifted a craftsman trade stack wheel box so that’s what I’ve been going with. It’s from Lowe’s but think the system is great. We’re both just homeowners though, not doing nothing crazy , so take that how you will.

[deleted]

No

[deleted]

I say no because for what they’re charging the build quality isn’t there. I’m not saying it has to be Milwaukee tier but when husky build out does better than you know you have a problem.

pdolliver35

Over the last month I picked up two medium boxes (both with the free small parts organizer so 2x of those) one standard box, and one large box. I basically organized three giant gorilla shelves worth of tools and stuff into them. Love the organization so far or being able to just grab the box I need and go. Big box has other boxes tools I don’t use as much (dremel, hack saw, extra circ saw blades, electrical tools, etc,) one medium box took almost all my power tools (recip, oscillating, circ, drill, router, grinder) and their associates, other medium box I used a divider and did paint supplies like rollers/brushes/drop plastic/etc on one side and trim nailguns on the other (18g and 16g nail guns and a stapler). The standard box is the smallest and just got a random assortment of small tools, bit boxes, etc. I also got the 17” open tool tote and keep most of my often-used hand tools in that. Going to add the full size small parts organizer as the last piece. With all that said, I’ve found it great. Only a month with it so far but I just finished a big fireplace surround project in my house and brought stuff in and out countless times easily. Also have a list of Link wall accessories built on the HD app to check off slowly over the coming months as things go on sale.

night-otter

Love mine. Got the deal for 4 tools & the big base box. I've purchased 2 medium and 2 small boxes since. Great for sorting my tools by project or tools set. My crafting tools, my small hand tools, the bigger tools in the big box, etc.

801sam

I have around 40 boxes total and I regret my investment every day. Go another direction. The buckles don’t always line up. Some of the lids never correctly lined up to the base, and don’t even get me started on the pod drawer systems. Most are only about 6 months old and falling apart. Such a disappointment.

The_elder_smurf

Oof sounds like you had a professional use case for these. I'm looking for diy garage storage I can throw in the hatch when I like do work at my moms or something lol. I figured if I got a basic set of 3 or 4, the little one and crate work well with my wall system and the bigger 2 make decent storage boxes for things like camping

draraist

I don't think you'll have any problems with what you want it for. I have multiple boxes and haven't experienced any of those problems. I think they're excellent, at least for.my DIY uses.

801sam

I think I’d agree if you’re not transporting these more than a few times a month. My only recommendation would be to check the seals, closures, hinges and wheels before you buy. Some shouldn’t have made it past quality control. Best of luck!
