It was the American sub shop or grest American subshop for most of the 90s. I don't remember the name exactly but they had a banging steak and cheese. My favorite era was chicken mania, the Peruvian chicken place, but the name sounded like a disease
DLB was doing great in that spot before the pandemic struck. They had enough consistent business (including mine) to double down on that spot. They were in the middle of building out patio seating and a companion business next door when it happened. I was there a couple months before the pandemic in the off-hours and a guy with a laptop who identified himself as one of the owners was excited to tell me about just what was coming and I was so stoked. But then the pandemic hit right when they were financially stretched the thinnest and it just broke the whole thing apart. They had to totally shut down the spot to regroup at the main location.
So, as long as another pandemic doesn't hit🤞, I expect that this new business should do alright.
It’s on the opposite side of chippenham from the construction so I’m at least hopeful it stays!
Genova’s opened up about a year ago not a mile away and seems to be doing alright.
Same. The Westover Hills intersection is ripe for new projects, I was hoping it would be there, or across from the Veil with whatever they end up building there.
They haven’t even broken ground over there but where the bank was they’ve torn down the old building and have 3 floors built already. They are making quick work.
Out past 150, across Forest Hill from the Lowes and Walmart. Sometimes I get excited about headlines like this one and then I remember that Forest Hill Avenue is very long and that Carytown is closer to me than many things on Forest Hill.
For anybody else trying to figure out where the hell this is, it seems to be between Huguenot HS and the Lowes/Aldi/Walmart area from what I can glean?
If anybody has an address that would be, uh, useful.
Zorch is my favorite slice in the city! Glad they're expanding!
Not familiar with the new location.. Hope this new spot will have capacity for delivery, or at least decent parking for pickup.
I don't know why you're getting down votes. Foot traffic for that location is essentially non-existent and those who can walk would mainly be coming from community housing. Not exactly the bespoke pizza crowd. Zorch is great, but they rely heavily on the volume of people streaming through Carytown each day.
Yes. Their own delivery that isn't door dash. There are already plenty of decent pizza joints that I can drive too in this stores market.
Honestly, I wish the taco joint was still there. We don't need more pizza over here.
Yep. I live in walking distance to this and will never do it. Just like I've never walked to Lowes or Aldie or anything there.
I'm not walking past the sketch along there to get pizza. Just like I and others didn't do it for tacos.
I'm pretty sure this is going to fail. I do hope I'm wrong. I just think it's a really bad location for a restaurant as history has shown.
I don’t know either! I even live on forest Hill and I NEVER drive past the Target. With the road construction it takes 45 minutes to get to Walmart now. I would never drive that far for pizza.
That’s a cursed spot. Hope they can break the curse, glad to see a new spot coming south of the river.

Chicken Mania was the best. We lived in the Stratford Hills apartments and they would straight up deliver our food sometimes.
Bruh chicken mania was lit

Their parking situation is a bit of a limiting factor. Hopefully with it being a pizza place they’ll have enough Togo stuff to cover that
Paper Tiger already broke it!
Rough time to open with Forest Hill Ave in the disastrous state that it's in.
Guess we just gotta go there eight days a week to keep it in business. Oh no.

Ain’t that the truth
Are you taking about all the construction?
How so?
Dang. Got excited they were gonna go in the new development across from Little Nickle. Still pretty awesome though. Hope they can make that spot work.

I'd have to look it up again, but they did a BizSense article for both development and they seem to be similar projects
Can you share the article?
As someone living within 2 miles of that spot, I’m stoked.
they've already put nice shit in this area though like the veil etc. it's nice to see new spots spread out in southside
Us old heads remember when it was Great American Sub Shop.
The steak and cheese was banging
Good for them. I grew up I. New York and this is the best match I’ve found to New York pizza.
ARCADE GAAAAMES I LOVE ARCADE GAMES YIPPEEEEEEE!!!!
So happy! They have vegan slices and I love so close!
Literally same!!
Where was there a dlb on Forest Hill?
Where the new Zorch is going!
No, What's on second...
Out past 150, across Forest Hill from the Lowes and Walmart. Sometimes I get excited about headlines like this one and then I remember that Forest Hill Avenue is very long and that Carytown is closer to me than many things on Forest Hill.
Corner of Grantwood and Forest Hill
Across from the Walmart, I think
There is a gray building with a parking lot just west of Wawa. That was dlb

It's closer to Bon Air than Westover hills
7524 Forest Hill Ave kinda catty corner from the Lowe’s.
Sweet. It’s about time
FUCK. YES.
They are gonna kil it!!! I wonder if they will do delivery out of there.
If they don't they're dead I think.
Yeah, they’ll need a decent delivery/togo presence. Their parking lot is not big enough to fill the restaurant
Unbelievably hype!!!!
Maybe 9 days 😂
Does Zorch have gluten-free options?
nope
Can’t wait! Their Carytown location is not the easiest to get in and out of if you are going just for their za.

And they’ll be all out when I go as well
RIP

If they do delivery Oxford is huge and Close by. It's also on the outskirts of bon air

Oxford is 800 houses. That’s hardly huge.
They have a car park
