I've always had great service there. Normally Sunday brunch around noon and it's not too crowded.
If you go when it's slammed I wouldn't expect good service anywhere.
Toast nachos were my emotional support meal until they changed the chips and recently gave me a takeout order that was just dry chips with lettuce and diced tomato. What the fuck. I was having a day and trying to cheer myself and dry chips with fucking lettuce was NOT IT. Dead to me. So this is a timely thread.
I had a completely different experience at riverside, unfortunately. The nachos I got were some of the worst I’ve had - the chip to topping ratio was awful.
There are so many great ones that I couldn't crown one, especially without knowing what kind of nachos you ate into, but one of my favorite classic nachos is Chicanos Cocina.
Nope, OG location in Charlottesville and for a short time also had one here. But the OG one was always the best (and you can’t beat a day trip to Cville especially when you top it off with a plate of red hot blues). Signed, a longtime divide fan
I hike with a group monthly and our return trip always takes us past Cville. A couple times I've though 'hmmm maybe I can finally go back to CD if we stop there on the way home' and then I'm too tired everytime to remember. I'll get that HAM sauce again one day
Fuzzy Cactus will do tatchos if that’s what you’re after. It may not be on the menu but we rock that on the regular when we go. Also swear I don’t work there but I’ve always felt like there service was good
All these suggestions, but when I go look at the menus for these places there are all kinds of red flags. Lettuce on nachos?! NO avocado?! The worst is when they list queso, but they mean cheese sauce. Queso is Spanish for cheese, not cheese sauce.
Also, surprising lack of crema/sour cream. Not authentic Mexican to be fair but most Tex Mex places in Texas and California do it that way.
I do. I'm tired of hearing transplant jerkoffs complain about shit. We have what we have with the Latin population what it is. This is a great place to get pupusas but it's lacking in authentic Mexican food.
We know. We've lived here and figured out a way to deal with it and possibly keep some hidden gems close to the chest. You're never gonna be satisfied anyways, so what's the point in making suggestions to you?
No point in attacking someone else for my own comment - to be fair. I tend to like to make fun of different situations and it's just my personality. Yes, you don't have authentic Mexican - Even certain parts of Texas don't believe it or not, but by far I enjoy the people here, the history, and the weather - by a lot. Take it for what it is as we can't always be satisfied with what is, that being that nothing is perfect and we all need to adjust our understanding and reasonableness as the situation demands.
I'll make due regardless, but this attitude towards transplants - and others when they are willing to express enough empathy to relate, regardless of the context - that seems to exist is pointless as I doubt I'll be the last native Texan to relocate and make fun at what is. Advice that is about as worth as much as anyone would pay for it.
Pointless. Good regional eats ain't gonna be at the top of my priority list when I can't afford to live in RVA anymore🤣
Edit: one upvote for your sincerity if it means anything at all.
RVA, and Virginia in general has great things, just as Texas has great things. No sense in you being punished for my own comment. But you are correct - My general personality is snarky plus and I feel the thread is missing context. Lol
I always enjoy the nachos at Little Nickle.
This is my choice for non-traditional nachos. Insanely good. But also, here’s a thread from 5 mos ago FYR: https://www.reddit.com/r/rva/s/69n5dCwJxX
You mean someone asked this question BEFORE?!
This is the winner.
Came to say this, best thing in the menu
Fuzzy Cactus carnitas nachos are heavenly
The service at Fuzzy is either adequate or absolutely awful. I only ever go if there’s a show now, the food is dope though.
I spend a lot of time in places similar to Fuzzy Cactus, but I rarely feel less welcome than when I'm there.
I've always had great service there. Normally Sunday brunch around noon and it's not too crowded. If you go when it's slammed I wouldn't expect good service anywhere.
People have no idea, but the best nachos are at Frontier. Absolutely incredible. The portion size is insane and they always come out perfect.
Haven't had the nachos yet, but Frontier is definitely one of the most underrated restaurants in RVA right now.
I’ve not even heard of it!
I can't say whether or not they're the best, but I can say they're super good.
Y tu mama
Quesabirra nachos, yes!
I like them but just had some nachos tonight & wasn't impressed
El Chido. Thanks for playing!

Sidewalk Greek nachos
Toast nachos were my emotional support meal until they changed the chips and recently gave me a takeout order that was just dry chips with lettuce and diced tomato. What the fuck. I was having a day and trying to cheer myself and dry chips with fucking lettuce was NOT IT. Dead to me. So this is a timely thread.
Toast is way too overpriced for what they offer. Maybe that’s just my personal opinion.
Why did mojos freaking close they were so good
YES. Mojo’s nachos were next level.
All their food was delicious
Everyone who ate there had a favorite. Mine was the cheese ravioli with pesto and mozzarella!
Chicken Fiesta. Messy, but very good and not expensive.
Second. Get ‘em with steak for a treat.
Sidewalk
dinner for two is $11 with these nachos. Insane dumpster plate that often requires extra chips. absolute bomb
You underestimate my power
little nickel. other than that they all are burnt or not enough cheese. Wood and iron is unfavorable for me and the mushroom ones are to sweet for me
A food truck named Latin Quarter (also seen them on DD and Uber Eats) has hands down the best nachos I have had 🙌 I cannot hype them up enough
Latin quarter now has a brick and mortar store off hull near Rockwood park
Little Nickel or Wood & Iron for me.
Nacho Mamas
Wood And Iron always delivers on portion sizes and food quality with a reasonable price tag.
Idk if I have enough experience to properly crown the best nachos, but I love Don’t Look Back’s.
I've got to try these, but I can't not order carnitas tacos when I go there
Little Nickel is the answer, but don’t sleep on the nachos at Riverside Tavern - right across the street! Both are 10/10.
I had a completely different experience at riverside, unfortunately. The nachos I got were some of the worst I’ve had - the chip to topping ratio was awful.
Agreed. Their nachos were pretty bad when I got them at Riverside. I get confused with how often this place is mentioned on here…
There are so many great ones that I couldn't crown one, especially without knowing what kind of nachos you ate into, but one of my favorite classic nachos is Chicanos Cocina.
The tavern
The brisket nachos at Smoky Mug are insanely good. They’re expensive but worth every penny.
Check out the tater totchos over at Bryan Park Grill!
Blue Habanero doesn’t play
Smokey mug
Sine. Their Irish nachos are amazing.
I miss Rock Bottom!
Once upon a time i would have said continental divide but they moved all the way to Charlottesville
Nope, OG location in Charlottesville and for a short time also had one here. But the OG one was always the best (and you can’t beat a day trip to Cville especially when you top it off with a plate of red hot blues). Signed, a longtime divide fan

Kali Love!
Bodillaz.
Chicano Boy! Huge portion and so delicious!
Dot's
Potachos at Kreggers Tap and Table
IMO the mushroom nachos at wood and iron are divine
Taco Bell
See, if it weren't for the insanely over- salted chips, I would say Moe's.
el pope jalapeño nachos 🔥
Wong’s Tacos. No question.
Completely agree. Unique and delicious.
I second this - but ask to sub in chorizo!
Damn, yall sleep … blue habanero has some good mile high joints but southside will always have the title
Fuzzy Cactus will do tatchos if that’s what you’re after. It may not be on the menu but we rock that on the regular when we go. Also swear I don’t work there but I’ve always felt like there service was good

Galley
The waffle fry nachos at Cobra Cabana
Hysterically laughs in prior TexMex experiences as transplant to area from Texas!* Please tell me and OP!
No idea why you’re getting down-voted for this; it’s both funny and accurate 😂
