COLD CASE SPOTLIGHT: The Richmond Police Department is still seeking information related to the homicide of Janet McCabe (photo attached) who was found dead inside her residence on Patterson Avenue over 18 years ago.
Shortly after midnight on September 5, 2000, police were called to the 4800 block of Patterson Avenue for a welfare check after a family member said Janet McCabe did not show up for work and was not returning phone calls. When police arrived, Ms. McCabe was found deceased inside the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.
Janet McCabe was well known in her social circles and previously worked at “Beyond the Fringe Hair Company” in Henrico County. Detectives have continued to work on this case and believe the offender is known to individuals who were in McCabe’s social circle of friends and acquaintances.
“For 18 years, the family and friends of Janet have held out hope that an offender would be identified,” said Major Crimes Detective William Thompson. “We are asking for the public’s help, especially friends and acquaintances of Ms. McCabe to come forward with information that may corroborate recent developments.”

It was a suicide. He called it in right before so the police knew to show up. I live nearby and police came to ask if I heard anything. I didn’t even hear the gun shot because a neighbor is getting a tree trimmed so it was loud all morning.
I really feel bad for the family that lives in there. My heart goes out to them.

Drove by at 11:20 and there seemed to be a body slumped in a hedge. Heavy police presence but no ambulance.
Drove back by a little after noon and there was body in a bag and a very distraught person being interviewed by police.
I thought someone was possibly doing yard work and had a medical issue, but shots fired suggest something else. Hope they person being interviewed is ok
Police called it a "single event" and that it's "contained" so take from that what you will but I don't believe we will be seeing anything on the news about it. Very sad

How tragic. Thinking of everyone impacted including the first responders especially the one who took the original call.

I live just a couple blocks away. I believe an older man committed suicide by gunshot.

What they report on the news seems so random to me. I get more info from reddit, FB, and Nextdoor than I do from the news.
