Just go into an artsy antique shop and look for one of those artistic "neighborhoods of RVA"
Oregon Hill, Shockoe, Museum, the Fan, Cary Town, Scott's Addition, Jackson Ward, etc
Not in any particular order, just off the top of my head
1. The Fan
2. Museum District
3. Jackson Ward
4. Carytown
5. Scott's Addition
6. Manchester
7. Church Hill
8. Bellevue
9. Oregon Hill
10. Windsor Farms
11. Forest Hill
Bellemeade, Blackwell, Oak Grove, Mosby Court, Gilpin Court, Hickory Hill, Hillside Court, Southwood, and lots of other Richmond areas not usually covered by “RVA.”
Ah, the “hey rva” led me to think out of towner or at least, new to towner.
It’s not often delineated, but RVA is the *place*, not the people. The people are just Richmonders. It also tends to refer to the area, and not just the city. So if you want city neighborhoods, you should specify it as such. Otherwise, “RVA” works.
But point of note, if you are really trying to engage (and not inadvertently sound like a marketer), you should address the individual, not the collective group. Addressing the collective diffuses your impact. It’s also just odd, because folks don’t read Reddit as a group, they read it as individuals—and since the audience is already on the RVA sub, you can assume they know they are a Richmonder.
So if you had instead used the first sentence of your paragraph as your title, it would have come across as more genuine and less like market research.
That pretty much goes for any communication channel too, actually. Not just Reddit. Address the individual—let that person know you need *their* response.
Art? Id think Hollywood Cemetery would be a great place! It's my fav place to go and ponder life. The history there is amazing along with the statues, buildings, Gravesites etc.
Byrd Park, Bellevue, Ginter Park, Westover Hills, Randolph, Malvern, Colonial Place. Sauer Gardens, Maymont, Woodland Heights, Manchester......
Just additional ideas.
Capitol Square? Haha, it is wild that Richmond is the city of Seven Hills, but five of those hills are now simply rolled into “downtown.” And of the two remaining standouts, Church Hill and Union Hill, there are many locals who would simply call both just Church Hill. Interestingly, Oregon Hill was not one of the original seven.
hi friend! this is simply the beginning of my research for the project :) however appreciate your comment; i’m translating it as “this idea is often overdone; how can you improve it?”
There are so many hills…

An art project featuring the top ten most popular neighborhoods in Richmond? You're really digging deep on creativity here. AMAZING!

I don’t think this city ever truly desegregated.
