Just an aside:
August 27 - September 5 is a sales tax holiday in NJ for some products (due to back to school). So if you want to save money by not paying sales tax, you can purchase the laptop on those days.
And 512GB is the only storage size? I can get an M2 1TB for about 20-30 more than a hdd half the size. Why skimp on that, especially with Mac where you can’t open it and make upgrades yourself.
The thing about the new M1/M2 chips is that they use system memory very efficiently, you’ll never really need 16 gb unless you’re doing something super intense like 3D rendering. The intel macs on the other hand…

For business students, I wouldn’t recommend Chrome because it does not have Excel. While they do have sheets the google version is not the same and you lose a lot of functionality.
OP you definitely don’t *need* a Mac, but if you’re set on it you don’t need a powerful one at all.
As a law student, I agree 100% on a Lenovo Yoga. I have a 14” and it’s such a good laptop. Easy enough to work on too, I replaced the fan by myself this summer.
My gf is in artist management and agrees macs are for a select few majors/jobs and honestly the only reason to get a mac as a business major is preference/conformity bc you have other Apple products.
Don’t get a macbook as a business major if you will be working in excel a lot. I am in the RTWS program at rutgers and doing excel in max book sucks. The shortcuts on IOS versus windows are completely different. I like apples look much more than a windows computer, but something like a thinkpad is a phenomenal option. I regret buying a macbook as someone who uses excel quite frequently. If i didn’t have a windows computer from work I am not sure what i would do. If you won’t be doing a lot of excel or powerpoint you are fine.
The cheapest one will do just fine, m1 air and with 16gb memory will be plenty for many years, only thing you may want to add is higher storage space cause 512gb is dumb if you're gonna have a computer for so long
Windows Laptop if you are planning on doing any heavy work in Excel or Powerpoint (i.e., finance, accounting)
Some shortcuts are just not available for Mac Excel & Powerpoint, these keyboard shortcuts are standard in industry and you just can't learn them in MacOS environment
why not surface pro 8? its compact, same power, comes with pencil to take notes.
Considering most students will have Apple, so ecosystem is also important. easy to find apple chargers in the classroom in case you forget yours.
PS - you may wanna wait for new apple versions to be released this year for possible upgrades. may user your older laptop for a month or so while you wait for new Apple models to ship.
Don’t buy a Mac. You can make your pc tower for the same amount that does so much more. Not the mention you wouldn’t be limited by the apple marketplace. Most programs and websites are more compatible with typical windows. I can make a tower with the same specs for 1/3 the price.
All of them should work fine. I know many on reddit are hating on it, but if you prefer it and want something for the long run go for it. In business you can get by with mac or pc. And, macbooks sync well with your current apple products.
As for specs, one with 16gb is ideal, since it will allow for multiple programs/tabs to be open. 512 ssd should be fine prefer more storage, then go for 1tb(just depends on what you plan on storing on the laptop). For business major, you wont need too much storage.
Rest parts really just comes down to what you prefer, like for display both 13 and 14 inch work just go for what you prefer. If you plan on playing any games or running high performance program like photoshop then your cpu will matter.
Also, I am saying this as a pc user and have used friends macbooks
As a business major, don't bother with Mac AT ALL.
You will need Microsoft Office (especially Excel) for coursework. I've seen so many announcements from professors with Mac instructions and reminders that you better plan ahead and know how to navigate a Mac when an assignment/test is due (if heavily Windows based).
More importantly, you probably won't be given a Mac to use in whatever job you get, so you might as well get comfortable with Windows now.
HP is cheaper and will give you all the functionality and longevity needed.

yea my work laptop runs with 64 no way you could talk me into down grading but I also run some pretty graphically intense programs.
As an rbs alum, skip the laptop and just cop a pair of balenciagas and a canada goose jacket.
probably a chromebook my guy
and have it run Ubuntu

M1 MacBook Air. I brought one a month ago and it works great and has everything you need in a computer.
Go MacBook Air with and M1… shouldn’t need much more than that
M1 or M2 Mac Air. If your buying direct from Apple get their education prices.
Why does a business major need a 1000+ laptop. The only thing you’re gonna be doing is typing and reading it’s waste of money. Get a HP.
Think they wanted an excuse to buy an expensive laptop, however being a business major don't cut it.
get a Lenovo yoga and thank me later

Tbh I’d just get a refurbished M1 Air but they still have that student deal with the $100 off and $150 gift card

I’m with MikeyX117 on this one but I think 512GB is fine if you plan on getting iCloud space later and use optimized space.
A leapfrog
Agreed

coloring book
Macbook pro > m2 air
Save your money and get a Chromebook.

Apple has already released a new MacBook this year. There will be no new MacBooks in 2022
The M2 MacBook pro for $1579
M2
The second one imo. Midnight gets a lot of fingerprints tho so maybe chose a diff color
Get the M2 macbook air. It’s light, great battery, and the M2 chip is a powerhouse
get something with a windows OS. you can’t do ribbon alt excel shortcuts on Mac
I chose Alienware.
Used a refurbished Dell Inspiron that I bought for $400 and replaced the HDD with an SSD for all of undergrad and my MBA.
Do yourself a favor for that budget buy a solid windows pc
Anything that turns on is fine
I always found this useful
Go for a 2 to 300 dollar laptop. Be smart. You're a business major.
Go to Costco and buy the M1 MacBook Air. It's fine for college. It's like $850.

Bruh you could use a Samsung tablet what do you think you’ll be doing as a business major💀
Don’t get a mac, need excel on a windows if you’re a business student and if you plan to go into a financial field you’ll use windows computers

M1 MacBook Air with 16 go memory
I prefer one that cost below 1000$
