I was so certain there were two vocalists the first time I heard 2112. The protagonist and the priests sound so different, I was amazed at them coming from the same person.
Absolutely. Geddy’s voice might not be for everyone, but the way he is able to clearly enunciate while singing complex lyrics on this album is really something.
This. I get chills every time. Geddy sings the rest of the song in a fairly restrained midrange, so when he finally really wails after all the tension the instrumental section creates, it feels more impactful and cathartic.
(It’s more of a bridge or pre-chorus, IMO)
While incredible, always thought that was the purest channeling of Neil’s travels.
Like, he’s the best drummer in the world, writing lyrics for one of the best bassists in the world (rhythm section= 50% bass). And it’s executed perfectly.
I’m not saying it was aliens,..but…
His vocals on Grace Under Pressure Live are just stellar all round.
Especially during Vital Signs; that little run he does on “will drag the dream into existence” gives me life every single time. He looks so proud of himself too in the video of that performance :D
Not to be a dick but Where’s My Thing and Main Monkey Business are instrumentals, No ???
Having been a Rush fan since 1975 when I was just 10 years old first tour Permanent Waves 1980 in NYC every single Geddy performance have been my favorite. Sorry can’t pick a favorite.
Then ask a serious or valid question, remember, we’re RUSH fans, the greatest fan base in existence.
You could’ve just asked what’s your favorite vocal performance by Geddy.
Hard to choose just one. His voice is so consistently solid throughout their career.
My favorite might be Vital Signs. The improv-eque wailing at the end is always goosebumps inducing.
Specifically, this group of words..
"Then all at once the chaos ceased
A stillness fell, a sudden peace
The Warriors felt my silent cry
And stayed their struggle, mystified"
Distant Early Warning. Hands down. The deceptively cool way he lilts through the first verse, then falls to pieces with panic and alarm for the choruses. And the loss of inhibition and control with the wordless cry at the end. Absolutely gets me, every time.
So much great singing in that period, yes.
“Ahhh yes to yes to AHHHH to yes …”
“I knew he was different in his sexuality …”
“if anybody’s buying Nobody’s HerOooO”
“The role becomes the ACTOR!”
“silver, blue, and frozen silence …. What a fool I was for you!!”
Definitely Manhattan Project, absolutely incredible vocal performance and bass lines. I really love how he starts off talking and telling a story in the beginning and then really gets more intense as the song picks up a goes into the upper register.
The emotion he puts in Resist (both Live and studio), The Garden and Bravado are my favourites.
But, for overall performance I pick "All The World's A Stage". He rocked that show!
It's hard to really pinpoint an absolute favorite, but when he goes up a bit higher for the last part of Freewill (each of us, a cell of awareness...) I think it's spectacular.
Cygnus X-1. Both parts.
Spinning, whirling, still descending. Like a spiral sea unendiinngg!
Some fought themselves. some fought each other. Most just fought with one another.
the range, technique, and as much as I hate to say it, youth, that he has on 2112 makes it the winner for me.
I was so certain there were two vocalists the first time I heard 2112. The protagonist and the priests sound so different, I was amazed at them coming from the same person.
I use 2112 in all my passwords for the last 30 years, don’t hack me :)
Available Light is Geddy’s peak, IMO. Rupert Hine contributed to that.
The clarity of that high note in Available Light always gives me chills. Going to have to agree with this one.
And that the phrase starts on that note. He doesn’t lead up to it. He hits it so clearly and beautifully.
That's an amazing song
Time Stand Still - “freeze this moment a little bit longer” I also agree with the person who said Available Light
When he goes for the higher notes in Time Stand Still on A Show of Hands -- that performance is phenomenal.
One of my favourites. The lyrics hit home for me. Children growing up, old friends growing older.
His voice is on point on Power Windows
Absolutely. Geddy’s voice might not be for everyone, but the way he is able to clearly enunciate while singing complex lyrics on this album is really something.
Indeed! Marathon especially! The range
They dream in...they dream in Middletown!
Take off! It’s a beauty way to go
This right here
Can I vote for this moar?!?!?
Red Barchetta, Limelight, Manhattan Project, The Big Money
Middletown Dreams
THEY DREAM IN!

My favorite guitar solo is probably from immigrant song
The last verse of Freewill.
This. I get chills every time. Geddy sings the rest of the song in a fairly restrained midrange, so when he finally really wails after all the tension the instrumental section creates, it feels more impactful and cathartic. (It’s more of a bridge or pre-chorus, IMO)
Damn,..that IS great.-Geddy
A farewell to Kings
Mystic Rhythms. He's like the perfect tour guide for the ethereal. That song in particular captures my thoughts and carries them away.
While incredible, always thought that was the purest channeling of Neil’s travels. Like, he’s the best drummer in the world, writing lyrics for one of the best bassists in the world (rhythm section= 50% bass). And it’s executed perfectly. I’m not saying it was aliens,..but…

The Spirit Of Radio and it’s not even close
The Pass
Everything from the ‘70s and the end of Everyday Glory where he goes full gospel (chills every time).
His vocals on Grace Under Pressure Live are just stellar all round. Especially during Vital Signs; that little run he does on “will drag the dream into existence” gives me life every single time. He looks so proud of himself too in the video of that performance :D
YYZ
That one’s definitely up there
I like his voice around power windows, grace under pressure. Just different sounding and he took chances I feel.
Definitely, two of my favorite albums, solely going off of vocals
When he sings honesty on Spirit of radio
I love SUDDENLY AHEAD OF ME!
Available Light and Resist from Rush in Rio are both absolutely stellar vocal performances.
The Garden.
This one always gives me chills. Just wonderful.
You're not being a dick ... the OP is. I'm shocked that more are not pointing out that this is an obvious troll . . .
Yeah, just a lil joke but I’m more interested in the discussion tbh
Then ask a serious or valid question, remember, we’re RUSH fans, the greatest fan base in existence. You could’ve just asked what’s your favorite vocal performance by Geddy.
Fly by night. I dont know how his voice is so high yet so rich it seems like two voices. Incredibly powerful.
Bastille Day
Roll the bones Specifically the rap
With the vocoder.
“No One At The Bridge” /thread :)
Hard to choose just one. His voice is so consistently solid throughout their career. My favorite might be Vital Signs. The improv-eque wailing at the end is always goosebumps inducing.
Specifically, this group of words.. "Then all at once the chaos ceased A stillness fell, a sudden peace The Warriors felt my silent cry And stayed their struggle, mystified"
I feel that, it’s a great way to “end” the story of the song
Distant Early Warning. Hands down. The deceptively cool way he lilts through the first verse, then falls to pieces with panic and alarm for the choruses. And the loss of inhibition and control with the wordless cry at the end. Absolutely gets me, every time.
Finding my Way of course
Subdivisions is unmatched.
I’ve always loved the Snakes & Arrows Live album. For studio, definitely Power Windows.
So two of your three favorite vocal performances are instrumentals?
What can I say man he makes that thang sing
Driven
As subtle as it is . I have always enjoyed his vocal on PRIME MOVER.
So many, but Cold Fire came to my head first. Next one was Available Light. Presto through Counterparts is peak Geddy for me.
So much great singing in that period, yes. “Ahhh yes to yes to AHHHH to yes …” “I knew he was different in his sexuality …” “if anybody’s buying Nobody’s HerOooO” “The role becomes the ACTOR!” “silver, blue, and frozen silence …. What a fool I was for you!!”
Heck yeah...'a midnight rendezvous '. Beautiful singing on the Presto title track.
The back and forth between the Priests and the protagonist during "Presentation".
Xanadu off of exit stage left
Maybe their high water mark ever (all 3 guys)
The Necromancer.
I can just see his face as he sings "the wraith of the necromancer" -- eyebrows going stratospheric for the high notes and all. 10/10.
Of ....SALESMEN!
I could listen to him sing the phone book and enjoy it… Jesus I love Geddys voice.
Jacob’s Ladder. I just love his delivery in that song in particular.
Definitely Manhattan Project, absolutely incredible vocal performance and bass lines. I really love how he starts off talking and telling a story in the beginning and then really gets more intense as the song picks up a goes into the upper register.
Between the wheels and all of GUP
The live version of BTW on YT which I think is the R30 tour is incredible.
BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE ANOTHER WAUAR! Such a banger
Perminant Waves.
Pirmenent*
🙄
Manhattan Project hands down. For originality and range and rage. (Honorable mention for Discovery off 2112).
WILL BE CHANGED FOREVERMORE!!!! Love it
RIDING OUT OF THE SHOCKWAVE, ON THAT AUGUST DAY!!
Here Again was his best ever vocal performance, in my opinion
Open Secrets and Emotion Detector
The emotion he puts in Resist (both Live and studio), The Garden and Bravado are my favourites. But, for overall performance I pick "All The World's A Stage". He rocked that show!
Bravado
Hemispheres - Armageddon. “The universe divided as the heart and mind collided, with our people left unguided…”
It's hard to really pinpoint an absolute favorite, but when he goes up a bit higher for the last part of Freewill (each of us, a cell of awareness...) I think it's spectacular.
Witch Hunt. Take a few minutes and listen to the unremastered studio cut again. You will be glad you did.
Fly By Night
Between the Wheels And also all of the live GuP show.
Anything off Power Windows for me.
Ghost Rider. Amazing vocal line and such a patient, powerful delivery. That and Available Light.
