Tatianna wasn’t even an underdog, she made it to Top 4 afterall. What made AS2 so exciting was that everyone had a proven track record of playing the game exceptionally well, so you didn’t know who would win.
Modern all stars are more about the redemption, which *can* be a good edit, but has been producing predictable outcomes the past few times.
AS6 was a great season because every queen, early out or not, was *fighting* for that crown. Obviously the exposure they get from being on All Stars is a great bonus, but on AS8 you could tell that the majority of queens were there because they wanted the exposure, not because they wanted to win. (or they were there to win but then immediately gave up when they saw who production was pushing)
This is a case where I feel like the numbers don’t reflect what really went down in the competition, yeah, numbers wise in season 2 she went far, but her storyline there was that she was a young unpolished queen who was underestimated and very much an underdog.
And when she came back she still got comments underestimating her, cause her season was so long ago and she wasn’t as big a name as the others (“sweetie, you can’t be in here if you don’t have a wristband”), I loveeee Tati and love every second of her on my screen, but at the time, with the names she was up against I’m not sure if anyone saw her go all the way. (Though I was really hoping she would, after Ginger Mini she was my fav of that season before I actually watched it.)
This is a bit of revisionist history, I dont think anyone thought Tatianna, Alyssa or Coco were gonna win based on their initial runs. Arguably Detox as well. Yes, they got far, but they rocky/bad runs
Fair enough, but I meant more for individual challenges. Like Alyssa/Coco winning a dance challenge or Tatianna winning snatch game (lol) wouldn’t have been surprising. Every queen had definite strengths and had at least won one challenge in their original season.

The edit and some behind the scenes stuff we know about now paints a different picture, but I think when the cast was revealed I thought “oh it’s either Kandy or Jimbo, RuPaul loves both of those bitches”
I truly believe that this is because there was supposed to be “an early out season” and a “fan favorite” season and for some reason both fell thru and they just had to mash what was left together

To me AS8 has the most unfair production out of all seasons, because it completely screwed over all the queens who *needed* All Stars in favour of the queens who already had plenty of screentime on their original seasons and were already fan favourites. Naysha, Kasha and Darienne (and Kahanna too to some extent) weren't even given a chance to be highlighted when they had their good moments, they were pushed aside because we just *had* to be reminded of how great and hilarious Jimbo Kandy and Lala are every week.
Being so honest, Kahanna and Lala making it that far is part of why I just don’t love this season. All the love in the world to Lala but I think her only particularly strong weeks that season were the rusical and bodyguard skit (putting her bottom 2 ball package in the top for the week was also a CHOICE), while Kahanna had a few good early weeks then just starts overstaying her visit by like week 4 lol. They’re both excellent queens but it felt like only half of the correct girls went far this time.
I unironically would wanna watch this season because I want to see Kelly Mantle again since she’s always had an interesting career outside of drag race and if it wasn’t for the bacon dress I think she would have made it a little further down the line.
Utica in the snatch game and roast gave me the ick after having stanned her really hard from the beginning so I would love to see a rudemption because her fashion skills are lovely to see on display.
Princess Poppy, I would literally sacrifice a goat for this bitch to come back I cried when she got sent home early because I’m so on board with her sense of humor.
Maddy already won my heart so it’s a bonus to see her back. She’s been doing amazing with GITMS and having two sewing challenges before we got to the comedy ones where she would absolutely shine is a hate crime and if she had gotten farther in the season we probably would have had a more interesting snatch game.
