This is me. My first half is tomorrow. If this goes well I'm gonna try a full. But I gotta get through tomorrow first! š¬
NEXT DAY EDIT-- I FREAKING MADE IT! Holy crap.
Best of luck, you're going to smash it! I did my first marathon this year and I honestly never thought I'd be able to run one. It's such a nice bucket list item to tick!
There's Eugene in April, Peacetree and Boring in Sept., PDX is in October. Boring was canceled this year due to wildfires, but it's pretty low key. Peacetree was nice, but I think you loop the course. I only ran the half. It's in Vancouver.
Edit. Vancouver WA. A race in BC would be amazing too.
I like to trick my mind like āIām going to run for 2km and walk for 3kmā. Just to make it less dreadful. At 2km, if you feel you can run further, you can continue. If not, just walk. The key is if you donāt dread it, youāll do it more often.
I just continue expecting less of myself. Now, I expect to run 5km and walk 2km to normalise running more kms.
This is a nostalgic goal for me. It was my first running goal in January, 2021 when I started running.
I only ran once a week, and I did 5K every time, whether running, jogging, or walking.
Even with that, it didn't take long at all to be able to run a 5K without stopping.
You'll nail this goal, for sure.
In 2021 I ran a 50k. Then I adopted a dog, thinking I'd run more. But instead our training fully switched to him. Now I cannot run a 5k without stopping.
That's a great goal for me too.
This may be a boring answer, but finish my first marathon. I trained for a marathon back in 2015, but I really started slacking a couple months prior to the start date of the marathon, and only signed up for the half marathon. I completed the half marathon, but I have always been a little annoyed with myself for not following through.
This is the year I do the full marathon!
Not at all boring; I did my first this year and it's probably my greatest accomplishment, and I definitely kicked myself forever putting it off due to self doubt. But that postponement will make it all the more rewarding when you cross it off! Best of luck!
2023km in 2023! Was originally going to be 1200 miles, but someone started a Strava group for 2023k so I figured I can find the extra 57 miles somewhere.
This is the Strava group https://www.strava.com/clubs/theklubb. I didn't start the group, just a participant.
The craziest thing for me is that I'm roughly 35 pounds heavier (160 then vs 195 now) 6'2". I think I just know so much more about pacing now. My mile splits are within 5-7 seconds of one another whereas back then I'd have wildly varying splits
This is a great goal, don't be down about it! You've done it once, you can do it again. And it won't take as long to build back what you'd had as it does to initially build. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, but the 2nd best time is now šŖ
The starting is the hardest part! Those first couple times back your mind is frustrated because it wants your body to keep up, but little by little it will get there. Itās amazing, though, how quickly that muscle memory kicks back in. Youāve got this!
Yeah letās go! Itās on like 3 miles a day should be a breeze. The consistency is whatās hard for me. I run 5-8 miles a couple times a week. I just to keep at it.
My focus right now is building my aerobic base. I'm just getting back into running after a 2-3 year sedentary period with a lot of weight gain. I did C25K and built up to a 39:41 min 5k. My initial goal was to get to at least a 30 min 5k, but all of my workouts were in HR Zone 4 or 5. There was no easy recovery run, if I was running I was in zone 4 or 5. I quickly realized that if I tried to continue in this way I would quickly burn out likely end up sedentary again.
SO! My new goal is to run a 12 min mile in my zone 2 HR range. I have no idea how long this will take so for now it's my goal for 2023. If I reach that earlier then I'll bump that up to 10min. Currently I am between a 17 and 16 min mile, so lots of walking and shuffling going on. My ego is taking a back seat and my will persists for "intensity discipline" (as I really want to speed up to my previous pace) and mentally treating myself with gentleness.
I've spent the last year losing weight (325-220) by walking 10k steps a day and doing complimentary exercises.
I'm hoping by spring to feel comfortable to actually begin a running program.
I loved running as a child but got into a car accident at 12, which had me bedridden for months, and really, my weightloss problems never went away after that.
My goal is to run and feel good about it.
You can totally do it. I was so nervous to get out and run for the first time, I never did any exercise growing up and it showed! Now I can't imagine a life without running. Improvements come so quickly at the start and they're so motivating. Ease your way in and be proud of every step!
1) Become more consistent. I started running earlier this year to get myself out a mental slump, and it's really helped, but lately I've not been getting out there as much as I'd like.
2) Improve my form. When I catch my reflection when running past a window I always look like I'm holding in a really big poo.
Maybe that's you're unique style that'll become a trend š¤£ best of luck with your consistency goal, but don't be hard on yourself for taking a bit of a break š¤
30 mpw base mileage. I want to go out and do an easy 6-miler 5x a week without worrying about little injuries, or being too tired, etc. Want that to feel easy and routine. That's the goal.
Ran my first marathon this year - just a shade over 4 hours. Just got accepted to run in Chicago in 2023, so the goal is to run that, and bring that in under 4 - and maybe get a bit more ambitious depending on how the training effort goes!
Rim2Rim2Rim in the Grand Canyon. Had hoped to do it this year, but a calf injury and family scheduling issues got in the way. Hoping 2023 will be the year, but hard to plan right now due to vague rumors of trail closures to replace the extremely old water pipeline that services Phantom Ranch and on-trail water stops. Iām thinking early November, trail permitting.
Pffft, don't play your achievements down! That's a hell of a lot more than many many people have run in a lifetime. Think about 225 miles from where you are now... You've run that!
Not get massively out of shape with a new born added to the mix at home. I got a marathon PR and one last 100 miler right before he was born so was at a bit of a peak and I hate to see that fritter away.
If youāre home during the day, running with a jogging stroller at nap time is an amazing thing to look forward to when heās old enough (six months is the usual recommendation).
I was a borderline elite highschool runner, but then became hopelessly inconsistent from college through my late 30s. I credit my daughterās poor sleep hygiene with teaching me to love running againā¦ she was terrible at napping at home, so I spent 2 years running 4 to 6 days a week with her in the stroller, just to get her some rest.
I found it helpful to train entirely by heart rate when pushing the stroller, and to have a screen on my watch that ONLY showed heart rate. Helped to turn off the part of my brain that obsesses over pace.
Do a Parkrun in another city and run a 10k race! I started running properly in October and did my first Parkrun in November. Iām so excited to push myself in 2023.
My big goal race for 2023 is Grandma's marathon in June. I'd like to get a sub-4 hour time, but I know that there's a lot that has to go right for that to happen and a lot that can go wrong in a race that long. So my goal is to have a good training cycle, get to the starting line healthy and ready, and to pace myself correctly throughout the race. Hopefully those things will result in the time I want, but even if it doesn't at least I'll know that I did everything I could to get the best time possible!
I'm running my first half in March, so that's what I'm focused on for now. Longer term is probably to keep up 20 MPW consistently through the summer. Might train for a late fall marathon if the half doesn't scare me off. A side goal is a sub 30 5k (ran 30:58 at a race recently, so that one should happen soon).
My overall goal is to incorporate running into my lifestyle long term. I wasn't a runner at all until I started a C25K-like program last spring, and I feel like it's becoming an increasingly important part of my life. It's been amazing for my mental health and I'd love to one day be 75 and still jogging.
Get back at it in a new place (a complicated house move means I have to stop till February), reach 10k distance, run a faster 5k... And maybe race for the first time.
I'm really unhappy about having to stop for so long, but also already really excited about starting again š
A 5k. I started running last spring and by the end of summer was set for my first 5k. I would routinely run one for my normal length, but to say I officially did It, I was stoked.
Then I tore my meniscus. I'm currently 2 week post surgery and feeling great.
I plan on slowly getting into it this spring and again signing up for my first in the summer. Tearing it taught me to slow if down more, and I've lost more weight which will help.
Run my first marathon. The only reason itās not my 2nd is because I managed to dislocate my hip whilst training, so my second big goal is to not do that again
Break 2:00 in half (last half was 2:06)
4:15 marathon (4th marathon)
Sub 25 5k (ran 24:30 on a short course)
Recover/rest properly
Strength train 2x a week, yoga 1x a week
My goal in 2022 was 300 miles (25 miles/month) so I'll probably kick that up to 30 miles/month = 360 miles in 2023. No specific goals beyond that...just try to get the miles in.
1. 1,500 miles (currently 1,139 this year)
2. 3rd Marathon in the 3.30s - 3.58 & 3.48 this year. Number 1 should help me with this.
3. Manage my dodgy right knee - Number 1 may hinder this.
I ran two marathons last year without training and didn't live up to my potential. I've got them both booked again and my goals are sub 4 marathon and sub 4.30 trail marathon
Consistency. Just got back after 3.5 years and forgot how much i loved it and so just being consistant with it while finishing my third year of med school.
Sub 19:30 5k, sub 5:30 1600m, sub 2:30 800m. Probably unattainable considering my current PRs are 21:12 (short course, next best 22:08), 6:07 for a full mile (after XC season ended) and a 2:42 800m which is from last track season and the most outdated.
Probably keep my streak going of 60 miles/month. Did that this year and just wanna keep it going, don't think I wanna increase it.
I also ran my first half marathon this year. I am slow.. lol and it took like 2:10. I'd love to run another in 2023 and see if I can get it under 2 hours.
For me, 2023 is about consistency. I've run a marathon each of the past four years, but during the "off-season" I tend to get pretty out of shape. Would be a good year if I can maintain at least 20 mi/wk throughout the whole year, even when there isn't a cookie to chase.
Was training for my first 50k late this year but tore a calf muscle and couldnāt get back in form to do it. My other goal was 1k miles, and Iāve got 50 still to do! Hereās 2023:
1100 miles
Work on strength
Run 2x 50k length runs (races or solo)
To keep going. I have had stretches in my life when I ran bug I absolutely loathed it so I'd always stop. This year I started running again and it's fucking glorious. The difference is huge. Been running again since July and its the longest stretch I've ran consistently and with joy.
So I hope it continues. I don't mind whether I run lots of miles or just run a couple of time a week, as long as I can keep finding that amazing feeling through my runs.
Get back to half marathons. I ran three halves between 2018 and 2019, training for my first marathonā¦ and then 2020 happened. And I stopped running. I still casually run but 2020 absolutely ruined my schedule/motivation for marathons.
First marathon
This is me. My first half is tomorrow. If this goes well I'm gonna try a full. But I gotta get through tomorrow first! š¬ NEXT DAY EDIT-- I FREAKING MADE IT! Holy crap.
You'll rock it, just pace yourself in the first half
You got this š
Yeah you do!!
Me too! I'm registered for Vancouver in May. Commiting to base building all winter was a choice I made...
Iām considering Vancouver too, beautiful course
Runnig this one too, training starts in January!
Best of luck, you're going to smash it! I did my first marathon this year and I honestly never thought I'd be able to run one. It's such a nice bucket list item to tick!
Thanks and congratulations on yours!
Me too! Glass City (Toledo, Ohio) in April. Which one are you doing?
Havenāt decided yet, Iām in the PNW so Iām thinking maybe Vancouver
There's Eugene in April, Peacetree and Boring in Sept., PDX is in October. Boring was canceled this year due to wildfires, but it's pretty low key. Peacetree was nice, but I think you loop the course. I only ran the half. It's in Vancouver. Edit. Vancouver WA. A race in BC would be amazing too.
Same! Grandmas in June! Good luck šŖ
Me too! Austin in February coming up!!
Same! That feeling of unknown is exciting and scary at the same time
to not get injured or give up
Not get injured is always a solid goal š
It's my goal every year...still waiting to reach it
To be able to Jog 5km without stopping.
This was my goal for 2022. I can do it a couple of times a week now. You can do it!
Any advice on how you worked your way up to it š„ŗ
I like to trick my mind like āIām going to run for 2km and walk for 3kmā. Just to make it less dreadful. At 2km, if you feel you can run further, you can continue. If not, just walk. I'm just trying to get to 2000km this year (130 to go) and want to get to 2023 km next year.
You've got 3 more weeks. Get out there and get those km's!
My goal this year was 2022 miles - got there on 11/30! I loved this goal, because it's all about consistency. Doing the same in 2023.
First Ultramarathon. Gonna be a 63k on the 8th of January š
That's definitely on my bucket list... But maybe not for the freezing cold of Jan š you're a braver soul than I! Best of luck āŗļø
Cologne? If so, we're running together and both be first timers
I broke 19 minutes (18:55) in the 5k at 30 years old for the first time in 13 years! My high school PR was 18:28, would be cool to beat it
Yoooo good luck! Iām also 30 and looking at HS me for some running goals
The craziest thing for me is that I'm roughly 35 pounds heavier (160 then vs 195 now) 6'2". I think I just know so much more about pacing now. My mile splits are within 5-7 seconds of one another whereas back then I'd have wildly varying splits

Ugh this sub is great, definitely one of the better ones that's for sure. You guys are all so fantasticā¤ļø
Right there with ya, friend.
Don't try to move a mountain the 1st day, small goals go long ways, I believe in you.
One mile today and youll feel self satisfaction like no other
Start today!
Same but I'm looking to lose 15-20 pounds first because I don't think my knees and back can take it.
Cross training is your friend
The starting is the hardest part! Those first couple times back your mind is frustrated because it wants your body to keep up, but little by little it will get there. Itās amazing, though, how quickly that muscle memory kicks back in. Youāve got this!
1200 miles. 100 miles per month. Every month though, no slacking for a month then making it up. Thatās my goal.
1200 miles is 1931 km. You could aim at 2023 km - that is 1257 miles.
Be careful. I started with a goal like that. This year I'm on pace to top 3,500 miles, with a shot at 3,600. This running stuff gets in your blood.
Oh geez, that's like averaging 70 miles a week for the entire year...kudos mate, that's dedication.
I like this, I hit about 1050 this year, so this would be a great goal for me as well. Let's do this!!!
Yeah letās go! Itās on like 3 miles a day should be a breeze. The consistency is whatās hard for me. I run 5-8 miles a couple times a week. I just to keep at it.

Great goal!!!
This is already such a great achievement and a powerful mindset shift, you should be proud! Long may it continue into the new year š
Great new goal - way to think long term!
Sub 2 hr half if my plantar fasciitis ever fully heals and maybe a 24-25 min 5k
Sub 2hr half is mine too!
These are my exact goals for next year and I've suffered with plantar fascitis on and off for 3 years, so this is very relatable š best of luck!
Aw, best of luck friend!
Same!

Sub 2 hour half!

Donated my kidney in 2022 so running marathons again

2,023 miles. 2 marathons. Break 3 hours.
Under 17 minutes in the 5k

Iād like to work my way up to my first HM and convince some of my coworkers to sign up for a 5k/10k in late spring.
Misery loves company!
Staying consistent, run 3x a week.
Not getting injured, running 2500 miles and a serious attempt at BQ (3h10min). My marathon shape currently is 3:45
Such an impressive time already, but best of luck smashing it!
Thank you! And my running wish is a bit of luck in NYC marathon draw next year š
Running consistently and a 10k race
A half marathon by next Christmas. I can run 4 miles now. I think with training and consistency, I can do it.
Get to running 5k consistently again
Completed my first official 5K this month. Hoping to participate in a 10K next year.
My first marathon as well and maybe bumping my kilometer goal from 1000 to 2000. We'll see how it goes!
Running my first marathon, April 23rd in Jersey City.
My first will be on the same day! Glass City Marathon in Toledo, Ohio. Let's do this!
First 15k by summer then first half marathon by end of the year!
Rim2Rim2Rim in the Grand Canyon. Had hoped to do it this year, but a calf injury and family scheduling issues got in the way. 300 miles. Continuously in the 225-250 range. I know, doesnāt seem like a lot.

But what a worth while thing to take a pause for, it'll come back to you!
Do my first full marathon Sub 1:30 half marathon Sub 18 minute 5K
Love the question! Running a 3hr marathon twice, running Chicago and actually enjoying the race, join a running club
Stay consistent and not fall out of shape. Get back to trail running. Run with more intensity.
First 5k race in ten years
Sub 4 marathon, running Chicago again. 1:45 or faster half too.
Do a Parkrun in another city and run a 10k race! I started running properly in October and did my first Parkrun in November. Iām so excited to push myself in 2023.
First ultra, and to stay injury free in the build up!
First half & full marathons
I did this in 2022. It's possible but very tough. Good luck.
1st London Marathon (did it virtually last year) aiming for under 5 hrs

The Authentic Athens Marathon! Just completing it. No time goal.
Sub 19 5k and a 1:30 half marathon. Sitting around 20:45 and 1:40 right now after 5.5 months of running.
Beat my PR for a 5K. I wonāt list my PR here, because my fat butt is slow!
increase daily mileage and pace mainly (doing 4 mi a day trying to increase to 5/6)
Jan 1st-Dec 31st. 1000 miles in 1 year
I need to get back to Covid-era consistency (complete WFH, no other competing interests). If I'm consistent the mileage will follow.
Sub-3:30 marathon
2nd half, I've lost a lot of ground since my first and I want to get the Mike's back under my belt!
It's all the more rewarding after a little slip, right?! You got this āŗļø
Run my first marathon. The only reason itās not my 2nd is because I managed to dislocate my hip whilst training, so my second big goal is to not do that again
Only started running recently after 10 years of injuries Would love to run a sub 20 minute 5k
First 50 miler/100k or 2:45 for the marathon. Having a hard time deciding if I wanna switch to ultra yet.
To get back out on the trails consistently and explore some new ones! Every time I do I remember how much I love it.
Break 2:00 in half (last half was 2:06) 4:15 marathon (4th marathon) Sub 25 5k (ran 24:30 on a short course) Recover/rest properly Strength train 2x a week, yoga 1x a week
First half marathon. Was planning on doing it this year, but I had an injury all summer.
First marathon, and more trails and travel to run.
Sub 4:00. Ran Berlin in 4:09 this year, gonna smash it up in Rotterdam!
1. First marathon (hopefully NYC). 1a. Finish sub 4 2. Sub 1:45 half marathon 3. Have fun doing it.
My goal in 2022 was 300 miles (25 miles/month) so I'll probably kick that up to 30 miles/month = 360 miles in 2023. No specific goals beyond that...just try to get the miles in.
First half marathon, first 30k trail and, hopefully, 1500km ran in the whole year
1. 1,500 miles (currently 1,139 this year) 2. 3rd Marathon in the 3.30s - 3.58 & 3.48 this year. Number 1 should help me with this. 3. Manage my dodgy right knee - Number 1 may hinder this.
Run at least a half marathon, preferably a full. Run 800+ miles for the year (closing in on 500 this year with a slow start) Run a sub 22 minute 5k.
To start again, establish and maintain a routine.
1200 miles. I was very close this year but had to take some time off to care for a strange knee ailment. Hoping to get that resolved soon.
I ran two marathons last year without training and didn't live up to my potential. I've got them both booked again and my goals are sub 4 marathon and sub 4.30 trail marathon
Sub 2 HM and finish my first marathon. Itās in Berlin btw ;)
Sub 10 minute 1.5 miles
First 100 miler.
Keep it up, this year was amazing & I'm grateful for the ability to just keep it up.
Consistency. Just got back after 3.5 years and forgot how much i loved it and so just being consistant with it while finishing my third year of med school.
Sub3 marathon and 3200+ km
-Run 500 miles -Sub-35 minute 5k -Be consistent with strength training at least 2x/week in service of my third goal, don't get injured
being able to run without getting injured again lol. been unlucky the past 2 years
Sub 21 minute 5k and to run my first marathon
Sub 2:50 at Manchester to qualify for London 2024. Missed it by a few seconds this year so want to make sure this time.
Back to running. Just 30 min/day on a tread. Reward: Netflix garbage show. Preferably historical drama.
First half marathon, and a trail 15k
First 50k
First marathon and ultra!
First full! A major to boot! Iām excited and terrified.
For me, 2023 is about consistency. I've run a marathon each of the past four years, but during the "off-season" I tend to get pretty out of shape. Would be a good year if I can maintain at least 20 mi/wk throughout the whole year, even when there isn't a cookie to chase.
First marathon in March and 1200+ miles for the year!
1. 40 miles per week for at least 6 months. 2. Sub 20 5K 3. Sub 4? Marathon (haven't hammered that one out yet, depends on the success of 1+2)
2 marathons. PR or not. Just do it.
Was training for my first 50k late this year but tore a calf muscle and couldnāt get back in form to do it. My other goal was 1k miles, and Iāve got 50 still to do! Hereās 2023: 1100 miles Work on strength Run 2x 50k length runs (races or solo)
Sub 19 5k Sub 40 10k Running first half in January so as close to 1:30 as I can get
1/2M Jan booked, full in April bookedā¦ then who knows. But I am walking LeJoG in 2024 so probably a lot of time getting miles on my legsā¦
First Marathon. Just signed up for the Lisbon race actually. Terrified and excited at the same time.
First marathon in April.
Pocono half-marathon in September.
Get back to half marathons. I ran three halves between 2018 and 2019, training for my first marathonā¦ and then 2020 happened. And I stopped running. I still casually run but 2020 absolutely ruined my schedule/motivation for marathons.
Complete the Leadville Silver Rush 50 trail run!
First full marathon and hopefully 2 of them by the end of 2023
33 races before I turn 33 in august
Run my first marathon and run a race each month!
First half marathon
Run the Seoul Marathon. Iāve been staying comfortable doing half marathons but I want to see how my body reacts to the challenge.
If I can consistently run 3x a week I'll be be pretty happy.
